Gerald G. Schleich
FREEPORT - Gerald G. Schleich, 80, of Freeport died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 13, 1924, in Freeport, he was the son of George J. and Elizabeth (Kinsella) Schleich. He married Helen A. Huesing on Sept. 11, 1954, in Freeport.
He worked at Micro Switch, Krafts, Freeport Motors, Fairbanks Morse, L.E. Peck Accounting, Lindgren Callihan Van Osdol & Company Ltd. and Schleich Accounting Services.
His memberships included St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3rd & 4th Degree and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
An avid bowler, he also enjoyed bingo.
Surviving are his wife, Helen of Freeport; son, David (Cynthia) Schleich of Buffalo Grove; four daughters, Anita (Richard) Olsen of Estherville, Iowa, Patricia (Greg) Aaby and Rita Schleich, both of Freeport, and Mary (Robert) Pleticha of Elgin; three grandchildren, Amanda Schleich, Benjamin and Kari Aaby; one brother, Karl (Beadie) Schleich of Freeport; one sister, Mary Beth (Joe) Clouser of Milton, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Gerald J. Schleich; and one brother, LaVerne Schleich.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Burt Absalon officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Walker Mortuary where, at 5 p.m., there will be a scripture service, and from 10:30 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
A memorial fund has been established.
Fern G. Tielkemeier
PECATONICA - Fern G. Tielkemeier, 89, of Pecatonica died Tuesday morning, Dec. 28, 2004, in Medina Nursing Center, Durand, after a long illness.
Born June 6, 1915, in Spring Grove, Wis., she was the daughter of Frank and Ora (Dreakey) Ashenfelter. She lived in Pecatonica for 66 years, coming there from Davis. Fern attended Davis High School. She was married to Fred J. Tielkemeier on Sept. 1, 1931, in Epplyanna. She and her husband were owner/operators of the Standard Oil route, where she served as bookkeeper for 30 years.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she was on the church council and served as assistant treasurer for several years. She was a member of the 8-year quilting group for homeless people in Rockford. She loved her vegetable gardening, bowling and playing golf, but most of all, she enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the summertime, she enjoyed her cabin in Minnesota..
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Tielkemeier; one son, Marsden (Karen) Tielkemeier of Pecatonica; three grandchildren, Leanne (Gregg) Ebens of Custer, Wis., Matthew (Patty) Tielkemeier of Key West, Fla., and Kristine (Joseph) Pottratz of Stevens Point, Wis.; nine great grandchildren and five great great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Pecatonica, with the Rev. Bob Saunders, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pecatonica Cemetery.
Visitation was held Thursday at the Kenneth L. Countryman Funeral Home, 529 Washington St., Pecatonica.
Memorial funds have been established for First Congregational United Church of Christ, Pecatonica, and the Pecatonica Lions Club.
Vivian Wiele
LENA - Vivian G. Wiele, 97, of Lena, formerly of Grandview, Iowa, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at FHN Lena Nursing Home.
She was born May 17, 1907, in Louisa County, Iowa, the daughter of Chester and Marie (Spitznogle) Stephens. She married Milo W. Wiele on Aug. 12, 1925.
She was a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Wiele Trucking Company and a member of Grandview Community Church. She was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years, and she was a member of the Jolly 20 Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Marlys "Sue" Eggenburg of Bullhead City, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Lois Wiele of Lena; and one son-in-law, Dale Cocklin of Kasilof, Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Sherril Wiele; one daughter, Barbara Cocklin; and one granddaughter, Debra Cocklin.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Grandview Community Bible Church in Grandview, with Pastors Darryl Erickson and Michael Eggenburg officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.
A memorial fund has been established in her name. Arrangements were made by Leamon Funeral Homes, LTD.
Agnes May Fauteux
MOUNT CARROLL - Agnes May Fauteux, 77, of Mount Caroll, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mount Carroll. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Debra K. Gross
FREEPORT - Debra K. Gross, 48, of Freeport, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport.
She was born in Freeport on June 2, 1956, the daughter of William Gale Sr. and Tuttie Schlamp.
Debra married Ronald L. Gross Sr. He died May 10, 1997.
Debra enjoyed doing craftwork.
Survivors include her mother, who lives in Freeport; two sons, Larry L. (Sieria Graham) of Freeport, and Ronnie, of Largo, Fla.; a daughter, Laura B. (William) Gross of Freeport; a brother, William (Wendy) Gale Jr. of Forreston; two sisters, Diane (Ron) Munter of Strawberry Pointe, Iowa; and Tammy (Rusty) Cook of Largo; and three grandchildren, Lindsy and Logan Baugus and Veronica Gross.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and an infant sister, Teresa Gale.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
J. Irwin Kilpatrick
GALESBURG - J. Irwin Kilpatrick, 88, of Galesburg died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at Seminary Manor, Galesburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hanover United Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the start of the service.
Kenneth R. LaMoe
FREEPORT - Kenneth R. LaMoe, 84, of Freeport, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 17, 1920, in Eau Claire, Wis., the son of Omar and Mabel (Oien) LaMoe.
On May 25, 1948, he married Marion Holman in Eau Claire.
Mr. LaMoe was a World War II and Korean Conflict veteran. For 33 years, he worked for General Casualty Insurance Company.
His memberships included First Lutheran Church, Golden K Kiwanis, and Freeport Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Marion, of Freeport; a son, Steven (Vickie) LaMoe of Durham, Calif.; two grandchildren, Christopher LaMoe of Sacramento, Calif., and Jessica LaMoe of Durham; and a sister, Eileen Scanlon of St. Paul, Minn.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church.
A memorial has been established for First Lutheran Church.
Donald E. Fransen
CEDARVILLE - Donald E. Fransen, 74, of Cedarville, died on Dec. 31, 2004, in Cedarville.
Mr. Fransen was born Aug. 5, 1930, at St. Francis Hospital, Freeport, the son of Hiram and Gladys (Stumbaugh) Fransen.
On Aug. 27, 1952, he married Marian Lucille Meyers, at Salem United Church of Christ, Eleroy.
He was a member of McConnell United Methodist Church. A Korean War veteran, he served from 1952-54.
Mr. Fransen was a director of Pearl City Elevator-McConnell Coop for eight years, and was instrumental in getting the building site for McConnell Co-op. He loved farming and especially the cattle. He enjoyed antiques and going to auctions. He was a member of McConnell American Legion. Mr. Fransen also enjoyed playing cards with his card club.
He and his wife farmed at Orangeville for 41 years before retiring to Cedarville in 1996. He was a part-time driver for J. H. Barkau & Sons Auto Sales since retirement.
In addition to his wife, Marian, and his mother, Gladys, of Lena, survivors include three brothers, Robert (Doris) Fransen of Pharr, Texas, Ivan (Beverly) Fransen of Freeport, David (Jeanette) Fransen of Springfield, Ore.; a sister, Margery Ockerman of Rock Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1978; a brother-in-law, Edward Ockerman; and his grandparents.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lena United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott McClellan and Pastor Brian LaBaron, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Leamon Funeral Home, Lena. Burial will be at Lena Burial Park.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
Gertrude Patterson
DURAND - Gertrude Duerst Spickler Patterson, 86, of Durand, died at 8:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at the Encore Nursing Home in Monroe, Wis., after 10 years of excellent care and love from the devoted employees at the Encore Home and Monroe Hospice Care.
Gertrude was born June 10, 1918, in New Glarus, Wis., the daughter of the late Edwin and Barbara (Frietag) Duerst.
She graduated from Whitewater College and taught school for 30 years in Durand. She married Delmar Spickler of Durand, who preceded her in death. They had two children who survive, Larry Spickler, Greensboro, N.C., and Diane Williford, of Hamilton, Mont. She married Almon Patterson in Durand in 1992, who preceded her in death.
Gertrude enjoyed dancing, country walks and especially her students.
She is survived by her children; four nephews, Robert Spickler of Rockford, Eugene Spickler of Durand, Eugene Duerst of Madison, Wis., Dr. Reggie Duerst of Glenview; one niece, Lynette Ivey of Princeton; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Duerst of New Glarus, Wis.
Her husbands, parents and a brother, Orso, preceded her in death.
Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Durand United Methodist Church with Pastor David Decker and co-officiant Rev. Thomas Hardwick, pastor of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rockford. Burial will be in Durand Cemetery.
McCorkle Funeral Home in Durand assisted the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Gertrude Duerst Spickler Patterson Durand Elementary School Memorial Fund.
Mary M. Guess Perry
FREEPORT - Mary M. Guess Perry, 72, of Freeport, died Dec. 31, 2004, at her home.
She was born Sept. 17, 1932, in Mississippi to Cleveland and Maggie (Stewart) Guess.
She married Marshall Perry on Dec. 27, 1967, in Grenada, Miss., and became a homemaker.
She was a member of First Church of God.
Mary is survived by four brothers, William Brown, John M. (Mahalia) Guess and Albert (Eula) Guess, all of Freeport, and Joshua Guess of Perry, Calif.; a sister, Iola (Joseph) Carter of Ellisville, Miss.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers and five sisters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Church of God with Rev. James Cooley, pastor, officiating.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Freeport.
Arrangements are being made by Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport.
Vera R. Stadermann
FREEPORT - Vera R. Stadermann, 93, of Freeport, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Freeport, she was born June 24, 1911, to Henry E. and Rosena (Schwarb) Witte. On April 16, 1933, she and Robert R. Stadermann were married at Salem Evangelical Church near Eleroy.
Robert died July 28, 1999.
Vera attended local schools and graduated from Freeport High School in 1929. She worked at Montgomery Ward from 1929 until October of 1939, and again from 1943-45 as a sales clerk and office cashier.
From December 1948 until July 1955, she worked for the Illinois Division of Rehabilitation. In July, 1955, she transferred to the Illinois Veterans Commission and worked there as a steno-clerk until her retirement April 1, 1979.
She was active in local organizations, was an officer in the Freeport Woman's Club, and was an officer of the Air Force Mother's Club. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, James (Ellen) Stadermann of rural Winslow; one daughter, Janice (Paul) Commander of Lafayette, Colo.; three grandchildren, Curtis (Michele) Stadermann of Lena, Connie (Charles) Rozes of Charlotte, N.C., and Cathy (Matthew) Anderer of Springfield, Va.; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and one sister.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce James and the Rev. Douglas Q. Bowden of Faith United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Eleaner L. Tanner
STERLING - Eleaner L. Tanner, 73, of Sterling, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Eleaner was born Oct. 20, 1931, in Buena Vista, the daughter of Milton and Glenn (Cross) Scheider.
She graduated from Dakota High School in 1949. Eleaner was employed at the former S&D in Sterling for 11 years. She then went to work as an accountant for IMECO in Polo for 20 years prior to retiring in 1996.
She was a member of Como Baptist Church, Sterling.
Surviving are her two sons, Michael (Denise) Tanner of Rock Falls and Mark (Teresa) Tanner of Glendale Heights; her sisters Arlene (Dennis) Aultman of Sumrall, Miss., and Linda Scheider of Freeport; and her brother, Dave (Linda) Scheider of Lena.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be at 9 a.m. today in the Como Baptist Church, rural Sterling, with the Pastor Brent Cloyd officiated. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Freeport.
Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial to the Diabetes Foundation would be appreciated.
