Irene C. Eicholtz
FREEPORT - Irene C. Eicholtz, 92, of Freeport died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at Provena St. Joseph Campus in Freeport.
She was born Dec. 23, 1912, in Waddams Grove, the daughter of William and Oleva Geringer Mullarkey. Irene and Vernon Eicholtz were married Oct. 6, 1938, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport, Iowa.
Irene was a 1930 graduate of Freeport High School, and in 1933, graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing as an R.N.
She continued practicing nursing in the area until 1961, when she began working for the Illinois Department of Public Aid. She retired in 1976.
Mrs. Eicholtz was on the original board of directors which established the Stephenson County Senior Citizens Center. She also served on the board of directors of Northern Illinois Area Agency on Aging.
She maintained membership in St. Francis Alumni Association and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Sylvia (Gary) Nesemeier of Rockford; two granddaughters, Amy (William) Lowry of Houston, Texas, and Ann Nesemeier of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Donald Mullarkey of Harlingen, Texas; a special niece, Christine Giardini of Freeport; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Lawrence.
Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with the Rev. Burt Absilon officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday to time of service at St. Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Provena St. Joseph Home.
Arrangements were completed by Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home.
Vera M. Geilenfeldt
FREEPORT - Vera M. Geilenfeldt, 84, of Freeport died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Woodbine, the daughter of Herman and Josephine (Hoppe) Koehn. On Aug. 8, 1939, Vera and William Henry Geilenfeldt were married in Dubuque, Iowa.
Mrs. Geilenfeldt was employed at Structo Mfg. Co. for 20 years and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Lena.
She enjoyed cooking, crafts and being with her family.
Surviving are one son, Glenn (Janeen) Geilenfeldt; one daughter, Dorothy Pedersen; and two grandchildren, Brent (Annette) Geilenfeldt and Kristine (Christopher) Robinson. All are of Lena.
Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Amanda (Corey) Wybourn of Olympia, Wash., and Caitlin Geilenfeldt and Laura and Joseph Robinson, all of Lena; one sister, Leone Fitzsimmons of Calamine, Wis.; one brother, Harlan Koehn of Apple River; one brother-in-law, Francis Andrews of Apple River; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband on Nov. 9, 2000; her son-in-law, James Pedersen; and two sisters, Marguerite Hodgin and Lucille Andrews.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Schwarz Funeral Home in Freeport with the Rev. Rick Bader of St. John Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral Home.

Clarence Harrenstein
ROCKFORD - Clarence Earl Harrenstein, 70, a resident of Asta Care Center in Rockford died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 18, 1934, in Forreston, Ogle County, the son of John and Lydia E. Ratmeyer Harrenstein.
Clarence was a member of Forreston Reformed Church.
Surviving are five brothers, Vernon E. (Janice) of Freeport, Marvin G. (Mary Jean) of German Valley, Kenneth G. (Grace) of Shannon, Lawrence L. (Theo) of Freeport and Wayne R. (Karen) of Eden, N.C.; and two sisters, Carolyn D. (Neal) Busker of Venice, Fla., and Doris L. (Gary) Smith of Glendale, Ariz.
Preceding him in death were his father, John Harrenstein; his mother, Lydia E. Harrenstein; and one brother, Lester.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Forreston Reformed Church with the Rev. James Stralow officiating. Burial will be at White Oak Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 9:30 a.m. Thursday to time of service at the church.
A memorial fund has been established for Forreston Reformed Church.

Bessie D. Reuber
CEDARVILLE - Bessie D. Reuber, 96, of Cedarville, a resident of Provena St. Joseph Campus in Freeport, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
She was born Dec. 3, 1908, in Oneco, the daughter of William and Emma (Brunsome) Effert. Her husband, Karl Reuber, preceded her in death.
She was a member of Grandview Cemetery Association.
There are no immediate survivors.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two children.
Private services will be held at a later date.

Nora M. Barklow
FREEPORT - Nora M. Barklow, 93, of Freeport died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
She was born near Kent to Charles J. Pohl and Maria (Shirk) Pohl. On Feb. 10, 1942, Nora and Donald Polhill were married in Rockford. They farmed in the Stockton and Lena area. She worked at Johnny on the Spot in Freeport as a clerk and bookkeeper. On March 9, 1973, Nora and Orville Barklow were united in marriage in Freeport.
She and her husband loved to travel and met many good friends along the way. She loved being with her family. She enjoyed going to Saturday breakfast with friends and enjoyed playing euchre with friends and relatives. After moving to Oakley Courts, she met many friends there and enjoyed participating in the activities they provided.
Mrs. Barklow was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Delores (David) Trumble of Lena; five grandchildren, Teresa (Pat) Sawejka of Milwaukee, Wis., Tammy (Mike) Bierk of Minneapolis, Minn., Dawn (Jon) Greenfield of Forreston, Troy (Sara) Edler of Ridott and Danell Trumble of DeKalb; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher (fiancee, Natalie Smith) Deininger, Kate Deininger, Jacob Frey, Jonathon Frey, Katie Bierk, Noah Greenfield and Emma Greenfield; one brother, Oscar (Mildred) Pohl of Waddams Grove; one sister, Esther Jordan of Freeport; one half sister, Margie (Edward) Moon of Freeport; and many nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Joyce (Terry) Kempel and Linda (Donald) Blankenhorn, both of Pearl City; one stepgrandchild, Shane (Jodee) Kempel of Pearl City.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two husbands, two sisters, seven brothers, one stepson and one stepgrandchild.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Stephen Precht officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Schwarz Funeral Home.

Anna Bazala
FREEPORT - Anna Bazala, 89, of Freeport died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at home.
She was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Waterman, Pa., the daughter of Demetrius and Anna Litvin Varhelik. On Oct. 22, 1934, Anna and Joseph Bazala were married in Homer City, Pa.
Mrs. Bazala was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
She enjoyed her family.
Surviving are one son, Joe (Elaine) Bazala of Latrobe, Pa.; one daughter, Marge Farringer of Freeport; two daughters-in-law, Beverly Bazala of Ernest, Pa., and Barb Bazala of Freeport; 12 grandchildren, Tom Bazala, Andrea (Mark) Lammers, Stephanie (Bill) Hopkins, Eddie (Cindy) Bazala, Jason Bazala, Brian Bazala, Lisa (Borche) Erka, Deb (Gordie) Williams, Pam (John) Fritz; Mary (Terry) Linker, Ronda (Bill) Kliman and Wayne (Judi) Moss; 17 great-grandchildren, Lauren Bazala, Amanda and Andrew Lammers, April, Ashley and Steven Heitz, Mason, Marcus, Jacob and Haley Bazala, Austin Kliman, Dewayne Moss, Justin Linker, Brandon Linker, Jonathon (Tonya) Fritz and Jennifer and Christine Dash; five great-great-grandchildren, Jaden, Nickolas, Scott, Kelsey and Taler; one brother, Frank (Mary Ann) Varholick of Homer City, Pa.; and three sisters, Helen (Bill) Yencso of Michigan, Sue Regetz of New Jersey and Pauline (Jim) Burt of Arizona.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two sons, a granddaughter, four brothers and one sister.
A family service will be held Saturday in Homer City.

Dorothy E. Keast
FREEPORT - Dorothy Elizabeth Barker Keast, 89, of Freeport died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Freeport Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Dorothy was born Oct. 5, 1915, in Oneco Township, the daughter of William and Lulu (Runkle) Davidson. On March 23, 1934, she and Lee "Dave" Barker were married. For 24 years, Dorothy and Dave farmed in the Orangeville and McConnell areas. Mr. Barker died Sept. 15, 1958. After his death, Dorothy moved to Freeport where she worked at Western Newell and Micro Switch. Dorothy and Donald Keast were married Aug. 8, 1964, in Lena. Mr. Keast died July 23, 1997.
She enjoyed going to auctions. She collected hundreds of salt and pepper shakers and toothpick holders, along with many more treasures.
Since November 2000, Mrs. Keast was a resident of Freeport Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Surviving are one daughter, Bernice (Travy) Zimmerman at Freeport Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center; one son, LaVerne (Marlene) Barker of Red Oak; two grandsons, David (Kathy) Zimmerman of Winnebago and Danny Zimmerman of Orangeville; three granddaughters, Kimberly (Fred) Ethridge of Orangeville, Pamela Socia of Holmen, Wis., and Tamela (Skip) Scepanski of La Crosse, Wis.; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Marvin, Donald and Herb Davidson; and four sisters, Barbra Leck, Beulah Eaton, Lottie "Pearl" Shippy and Sadie Haman.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cramer-Leamon Funeral Home in Orangeville with the Rev. Donald Jamerson officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in rural Freeport.
Visitation time is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lionel B. Peck
WILD ROSE, Wis. - Lionel B. Peck, age 81, of Wild Rose, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at his daughter's home on Gilbert Lake surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Pound, Wis., on Dec. 2, 1923, the son of Edward and Margaret (Gabriel) Peck. He married Eileen Cremer on Aug. 16, 1947, in Freeport.
Lionel was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a graduate of Marquette University and was employed as an electrical engineer with GE Medical Systems for 37 years prior to his retirement to Gilbert Lake.
Lionel was active in the community and was one of the seven builders of the Springwater Volunteer Covered Bridge. Lionel's happiest days were spent boating on Gilbert Lake with his grandchildren.
Lionel was the loving husband of Eileen Peck of Wild Rose for 57 years; the caring father of David (Angela) Peck of Berkeley, Calif., Edward (JoAnne) Peck of Stevens Point, Wis., Mary (Steve) Lauer of Atlanta, Ga., and Carol (Keith Kirchhoff) Peck of Brookfield, Wis.; beloved grandfather of Bryan, Eric and Matt Lauer, Will, Chris and Jon Peck and Andrea and Leslie Kirchhoff; brother of Lawrence (Jeanne) Peck of Freeport, Lucille (Bob) Germain of Milwaukee and Lola Mae Franz of Green Bay, Wis. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wautoma, Wis., with Father Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Interment will be at Caersalem Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Holly Funeral Home in Wild Rose and from 10 a.m. Friday until time of service at the church.
A memorial fund has been established for Wild Rose Booster Club.
Joseph Poole
FREEPORT - Joseph Poole, 70, resident of Freeport for 40 years, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at home.
He was born Dec. 17, 1934, in Carlinville, the son of David and Mildred Poole. On May 2, 1989, Joseph and Mary Nicklaus were married in Monroe, Wis.
Mr. Poole was a probation officer in the 1970s in Freeport.
He attended college and was an artisan who hand-crafted sterling silver rings. He loved meeting new people and talking with old friends.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; a son, Tracy Allen; sister, Bessy of Carlinville; and one brother, Dave (Lillian) Poole of Monmouth.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Mary Hitchcock.
No services will be held. His body was donated to cancer research through BioGift Anatomical Society in Oregon.
Arthur L. Youngs
FREEPORT - Arthur L. Youngs, 75, of Freeport, formerly of Boscobel, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
He was born Sept. 21, 1929, in Boscobel to Ralph and Myrna (Haskins) Youngs. Arthur was married to Betty Barr, with whom he was blessed with two children. On Oct. 22, 1965, Arthur was married to Janice Martin. She preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1995.
Mr. Young served in the U.S. Army in Japan and Korea from May 1951 to April 1957. He was a paratrooper with the 187th Airborne RCT in Korea.
He worked for Turner Construction, Iverson Construction and other firms. He enjoyed driving trucks.
Surviving him are one daughter, Peggy Van Valkenburg of Platteville, Wis.; one son, Brian (Karen) Youngs of Bangor, Wis.; six grandchildren, Hannah, Heather and Hillary Youngs and Vanessa, Cole and Kyle Van Valkenburg; one sister, Patricia Sutterlin of Freeport; and his first wife, Betty Barr of Holman, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his second wife, Janice Youngs.
Services will be held at noon Saturday at Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home in Boscobel. Burial will be at Boscobel Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the Blake-Semrad American Legion and the Gilbertson-Pitzer Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, both of Boscobel.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. Saturday to time of service at the funeral home in Boscobel.
Local arrangements were made by Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport.
Lorraine A. Enzler
FREEPORT - Lorraine A. Enzler, 77, of Freeport died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Lena Nursing Home in Lena.
Born March 3, 1927, in Freeport, she was the daughter of Albert and Marian (Walker) Young. Lorraine married Edward J. Enzler on May 6, 1950. He died Feb. 6, 1968.
Lorraine worked for Oakland Cemetery, Moss Plumbing & Heating and Culligan Water Conditioning.
She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ. Lorraine had an excellent memory and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed time spent with her family and friends.
Surviving is her daughter, Carol (Michael) Hutmacher, and one granddaughter, Lisa Hutmacher both of Bloomington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Walker Mortuary with the Rev. Ward Malloy of Bethany United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday until time of service at Walker Mortuary.
Memorials have been established for Bethany United Church of Christ and Lena Nursing Home.
