Jeanette S. Langlois
FREEPORT - Jeanette S. Langlois, 85, of Freeport, homemaker, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at home.
She was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Appleton, Wis., the daughter of Matt and Terese Madler Schuh. On April 10, 1943, Jeanette and Bob Langlois were married in Appleton. Mr. Langlois died Dec. 8, 1995.
Mrs. Langlois was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and supporter of Freeport Catholic Schools, and member of Illinois Children's Home and Aid Society, PADS, Meals on Wheels and Provena St. Joseph Auxiliary.
Jeanette was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Surviving her are five sons, Bob (Julia) Langlois, Tom Langlois, Dick (Jan) Langlois, Joe (Kris) Langlois and John (Linda) Langlois; four daughters, Mary (Thomas) Tyler, Ann (John) Secker, Libby (Tim) Joyce and Margaret (Kurt) Johnson; 28 grandchildren, Dani Tyler, Matt Tyler, Stephen Secker, Julia Secker, Beth Joyce Mendoza, Bridget Joyce Manley, Rob Langlois, David Langlois, Nate Langlois, Jon Nicolai Langlois, Cory Channell, Alison Langlois, Katie Langlois, Tim Langlois, Rick Langlois, Ryan Langlois, Kelsey Langlois, Renee Langlois, Jeff Langlois, Tyler Johnson, Mitch Johnson, Spenser Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Nick Johnson, McKensie Johnson, Maggie Langlois, Jack Langlois and Amelia Langlois; four great-grandchildren, Garrett Secker, Callista Secker, Hunter Channell and Austin Channell; and two sisters, Katherine Evans and Virginia Grasse.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Bob Langlois; mother, Terese Schuh; father, Matt Schuh; and three brothers, Bill Schuh and two infant brothers.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, 504 N. Walnut Ave., Freeport, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Cedarville Cemetery in Cedarville.
Memorial funds have been established for St. Joseph Day Care Center and St. Joseph Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D.
Philip C. Raab
BUCKEYE, Ariz. - Philip Charles Raab, 65, of Buckeye, Ariz., died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, of lung cancer.
He was born Jan. 2, 1939, in Apple River, the son of Charles and Sarah (Townsend) Raab.
After graduating from Mount Carroll High School in 1957, he worked at various jobs before assuming his truck driving career in the early 1960s. In 1975, he moved to Colorado where he met and married Vicki Potter in Brighton, Colo., on Dec. 17, 1976. In 1978 they moved to Deer Trail, Colo. He was baptized at Tabor Baptist Church on Nov. 6, 1988.
After many years of trucking, he began working for Wal-Mart in October 1994. He transferred with Wal-Mart to Buckeye in 2001. Because of illness, he retired in 2004.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, telling "trucker" stories, building and remodeling homes, auto racing and tinkering with engines.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Warren Raab of Goodyear, Ariz.; one daughter, Brandi (Rod) Schmidt of Charles City, Iowa; sons, Stephan (Pam) Raab of Rock Falls and Keith (Ann) Raab of Clinton, Iowa; daughter, Lori (Wayne) Walker of Rock Falls; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Allison, Tanner, Celina, Hal and Emma Raab, Shannon and Samantha Walker and Karson Schmidt; three sisters, Charlene Todd of Mount Carroll, Sally Martin of Shannon and Beverly Jeter of Humbolt, Ariz.; and two brothers, C. Thomas Raab of Mount Carroll and Gerald Raab of Savanna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son; and three brothers, Earl, Richard and David.
Cremation rites were accorded and services were held Jan. 7 at Palo Verda Baptist Church. Burial was at the church cemetery.
Paul E. Uecker
PEARL CITY - Paul E. Uecker, 90, of Pearl City died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1914, in Pearl City, the son of Edward and Ann (Noller) Uecker. In 1937, Paul and Beulah Mary Stabenow were married in Princeton. She died May 3, 1976. Alberta Solt Kass and Paul were married on June 30, 1977, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lena.
Mr. Uecker helped build the Lena Golf Course and worked as greenskeeper for many years. He drove for Staton Trucking and was the West Point Road Commissioner. Mr. Uecker worked for R.E. Cox Construction for 30 years.
His memberships included Teamsters Union #325 and Lena Golf Course.
Survivors include his wife of Pearl City; one son, Ron (Mary Jean) Uecker of Augusta, Maine; one grandson, Craig (Debbie) Uecker of Freeport, Maine; one granddaughter, Carla (Joel) Reed of Oakwood, Ohio; one stepgrandson, Shanin (Jennifer) Solt of Freeport; one stepgranddaughter, Kelly (Kenny) Lewers of Freeport; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Jeremy and Molly Reed; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Brynn Solt, Darius Lewers, Nicole and Erik Crone; and one sister, Ruth Spangler of Freeport.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Beulah Stabenow Uecker; one brother; two sisters; and one stepson, Wayne Solt.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Leamon Funeral Home in Lena with Deacon Andrew Nielo officiating. Burial will be at Lena Burial Park.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
Doris Schoney
URBANDALE, Iowa - Doris Schoney died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at the USA Healthcare Center in Urbandale, Iowa. A private family funeral service will be held Monday.
Doris was born Nov. 7, 1916, to Elmer and Hattie Ferguson of Lena. She was a member of the former Lena Church of the Brethren and the Le-A-Nites Home Extension. She made her home at the USA Health Care Center in Urbandale the past five years following a stroke in 1999.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Earl; her parents; and a sister, Vada.
Doris will be missed by her children, Gary Schoney of Urbandale, Richard (Madeline) Schoney of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Nancy (Ron) Jones of Urbandale; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were completed by Brooks Funeral Care in Clive, Iowa.
Ruth E. Frisbie
FREEPORT - Ruth E. Frisbie, 91, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport after a short illness. She suffered from Alzheimer's for five years.
She was born March 30, 1913, the daughter of Charles G. and Anna E. (Gross) Mohr. On March 20, 1938, Ruth married Paul L. Frisbie. He passed away on April 23, 1972.
Ruth was a lifelong Freeport resident who worked for years, first at Moogk's Drug Store and later, primarily as a pharmacy technician at Emmert's Drug Store.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church.
Throughout her life, but particularly in the last 20 years, she loved gardening. She enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening, but absolutely loved her various flowers. They gave her endless hours of enjoyment.
Surviving are one son James Frisbie; three nephews, Gary Mohr, Robert Auman and Ronald Popp; and two nieces, Karleen Mohr and Janice Rawleigh.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her older sister, Dorothy (Vernon) Kleckner; an older brother, Ervin (Nina) Mohr; and two younger sisters, Evelyn (Burdette) Auman and Marian, who was married first to Lloyd Popp and, after his death, to Erhard Steinman.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Peace at Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum with the Rev. Neville Kretzmann of First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum. There will be no visitation.
A memorial scholarship fund will be established in her name for Dakota High School.
Arrangements were completed by Walker Mortuary.
Violet V. Loomis
LENA - Violet Virginia Loomis, 88, of Lena died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at her home following a short illness.
She was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Lena, the daughter of Clifford and Christine (Paul) Mellen On May 14, 1936, Violet and Jessie Franklin Loomis were married. Jessie passed away on Oct. 5, 2000.
Violet and Jessie farmed in West Point Township until retiring in 1976. She was a member of Lena United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, Larry (Ruth) Loomis of Polo; one brother, Roger Mellen of California; and one sister, Betty (Willis) Dammon of Tucson, Ariz.
Preceding her in death were her husband, four brothers and one sister.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lena Burial Park in Lena with the Rev. Scott McClellan officiating. There will be no visitation. Cremation rites were accorded.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
Arrangements were made by Leamon Funeral Home.
Irma J. Ohms
SCALES MOUND - Irma June Ohms, 77, of Scales Mound died at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at home.
She was born June 27, 1927, in Scales Mound, the daughter of August and Ethel (Koester) Brickner.
She attended Scales Mound schools, graduating in 1945.
On Sept. 23, 1945, Irma and Charles Edward Ohms were married. Mr. Ohms died on Aug. 16, 2001. The couple was married for 56 years.
Mrs. Ohms formerly worked at Janlin plastic in Warren, Honeywell in Galena and she and her sister operated Catering Sisters of Scales Mound.
She was well known for her quilting and cooking, especially for her potato salad, turkey and dressing and pasty. She loved working with her flowers.
Her memberships included Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, the Mary Circle of the church, and Scales Mound 50 Plus Club.
Irma treated her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law like her own children.
Surviving her are her children, Kathleen (Larry) Holland, Stephen (Pam) Ohms and Stuart (Mary) Ohms, all of Galena, Roxanne (friend, Kevin Schleuing) Foley of Oregon, Wis., Patrick (Sheila) Ohms of Scales Mound, Paula (Larry) McPeek Jr. of Stockton, Laurel (friend, Dennis Davis) Brashaw of Freeport and Thomas (Julie) Ohms of Stockton; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister and brother, Mary Knuckey and William (Janet) Brickner, both of Scales Mound; her aunt, Verle Koester of Scales Mound; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary Saam, Marilyn Ohms, Herman (Carol) Ohms, Bill (Mary Ann) Ohms, Ann Clarkson and Jake (Sue) Ohms.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church at Schapville. Burial will be at Scales Mound Township Cemetery. Pastor Arthur Stees will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Miller & Steinke Funeral Home in Scales Mound, and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
An Irma June Ohms Memorial Fund has been established.

Evelyn D. Roemer
FREEPORT - Evelyn D. Roemer, 89, of Freeport died Saturday, Jan, 22, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born March 23, 1915, in Freeport, she was a daughter to Walter and Rachel (Lontz) Daniels. Evelyn married William Roemer on Sept. 15, 1942. Mr. Roemer died in 1977.
She was a former employee of Burgess Battery in Freeport.
Evelyn was a lifelong Freeport resident who enjoyed her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother whose positive attitude and loving spirit will be missed. She was very appreciative of Don DeVries and Morgan Memorial Nursing Home who served as her caregivers in her final years.
Survivors include her brothers, Donald DeVries and Dale (Marilyn) DeVries, both of Pearl City; a son-in-law, Richard (Mable) Louthain of Rockford; one daughter-in-law, Gracie (Roemer) McKee of Wisconsin; daughters, Shirley (Joe) Oppold of Stockton and Marilyn Shay of Freeport; 11 grandchildren, Laura Padron of Rockford, Craig (Michelle) Louthain of Belvidere, Steve Louthain and his special friend Sue Hanson of Rockford, Sally (Mike) O'Mara of Freeport, Bill Roemer of Wisconsin, Bob (Sheila) Roemer of Merimac, Wis., Randy (Cheryl) Roemer of Oscala, Fla., Joe Oppold III of California, Jerry Oppold of Stockton, Mike Marcum of Freeport and Beth Ann Wilken of Freeport; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Gwen; her husband, Bill Roemer in 1977; her daughter, Carol (Anderson) Louthain in 1987; and her son Roland Roemer in 1999.
Services will be 11 a.m. today at Walker Mortuary, 321 W. Main St., Freeport, with the Rev. Don Jamerson of First Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
A memorial fund has been established in her name for American Cancer Society.
Emily A. Russell
FREEPORT - Emily A. Meier Russell, 89, of Freeport, homemaker, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Provena St. Joseph Campus.
She was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Red Oak, the daughter of Frank and Seagret Kratzer Meier. On Oct. 1, 1939, Emily and Bernie Russell were married. Mr. Russell died Feb. 8, 2001.
Mrs. Russell was a member of St. John United Church of Christ.
"Remember me for the good things and good times I shared with you." She enjoyed doing for others, volunteering, being a devoted homemaker, doing her own cooking, baking and decorating. She made the family home a warm and inviting place for family and friends.
Surviving are one son, Bernie (Cindy) Russell of Apopka, Fla.; one daughter, Sherry Undieme of Freeport; seven grandchildren, Tracy Olson, Shannon Russell, Chad Russell, Michael Undieme, Tony Undieme, Lisa Lehnherr and Lori Aebly; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, one brother, two sisters, one niece, one grandniece and one son-in-law, Phil Undieme.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John United Church of Christ with the Rev. Donnley Dutcher officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
