Dolores O. Swift
LA CROSSE, Wis. - Dolores Opal Swift, 95, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse, Wis.
Dolores was born on Oct. 21, 1909, in Winona, Minn., to William and Estella Schultz.
Dolores was a graduate of Winona High School and Winona Business College, after which she was employed at Winona's McConnon and Company.
In 1933, Dolores married Henry Spencer Swift, now deceased, in Winona, where they lived until 1949 when they moved to Freeport.
Dolores is survived by her three children, William Swift (Helena) of Albuquerque, N.M., Richard Swift (Frances) of La Crosse and Susan Maves (Grant) of La Crosse; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Dolores was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of Embury Methodist Church, an original member of two YWCA endeavors, "Black and White Dialogue Group" and "Sunday Sociables." Dolores enjoyed bowling in the YMCA couples league where she served as a secretary and treasurer for 22 years. She also enjoyed piano, walking, golfing, traveling and a lively game of Pit. Dolores especially loved a good game of 500 and was a champion Scrabble player.
Dolores will be lovingly remembered for her wisdom, her sense of humor and positive spirit by all who knew and loved her.
Lee Williams
FREEPORT - Lee Williams, 57, departed this life at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 1, 1947, in Osceola, Ark., to OT and Hallie (Glass) Williams.
Lee attended school in Arkansas, graduating from Osceola High School in June 1965. After receiving his high school diploma, he came to Freeport where he started working at Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. He continued his employment there for 37 years, retiring May 1, 2003.
Lee was united in Holy Matrimony to Evelyn Turner on Aug. 9, 1969, in Freeport. To this union were born two sons, Roderick and Eric.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Evelyn; two sons, Rod (Amy) of Freeport and Eric (Leakhena) of El Paso, Texas; three grandsons, Jimmy of Freeport and Gabriel Rathanat and Chachhaya (Jhan-cha-ya) of El Paso; four brothers, OT (Lillie) of Bensonville, David (Ardie) of Freeport, George (Thelma) of Glendola, Miss., and Walter (Beatrice) of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Mary (Sherman) Scott of Osceola; many loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
His dad, OT Sr.; his mother, Hallie; and one sister, Annie preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Faith for Miracle Deliverance and Worship Center, 3247 S. Baileyville Road, Freeport, with Bishop J. Arthur Wade officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, West Galena and North Walnut Avenue, Freeport.
Robert T. Brooks Sr.
BOSTON - Mr. Robert "R.T." Thomas Brooks Sr., was born in West, Miss., on Oct. 28, 1928, to James "Gene" Brooks and Pecola Tucker Brooks. He departed this life on Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Carney Hospital in Boston.
"Good Shepherd, it gives me great comfort to know that you care for your sheep so much that you laid down your life for a wandering one like me."
R.T., as most of his family called him, was brought up in the Baptist church, and he had Christ in his life. He was educated in the public school system in Mississippi. He moved to Freeport in the early 1950s, where he made his home until 1969, then moving to Boston. In 1974, R.T. married Betty Jo Smith. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Brooks retired from Best Food Baker in 1994. He then enjoyed cooking meals for his family and friends, and traveling until his health failed him. At an early age, R.T. became a Mason in Mississippi Loge #34.
On Sept. 3, 1948, R.T. married Charlena Shipp in West. To this union were born four children. Thomas Lamont Brooks, their third child, preceded him in death.
To bid him farewell, and cherish fond memories are his children, the Rev. Precious (Lawanda) Brooks, Robert Thomas (Janice) Brooks Jr., both of Boston, Patricia Ann (Samuel) Brooks Shird of East Peoria; three brothers, Mr. Walsh (Pearlie) Brooks and George Brooks, both of Detroit, and Willie (Honey) Brooks of Chicago. To cherish his legacy are five grandchildren, Kenyette (Gerry) Brooks Sr., Robert Thomas Brooks III, Melanie Brooks, Markcus Brooks and Cyrus Brooks; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving stepmother, Rosena "Mother" Brooks; three brothers, Wesley Brooks, James Brooks and Ernest Lee Brooks; three sisters, Nancy Allen, Mary Ellis Rainey and Benola Williams.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, the corner of Galena and Carroll streets. The Rev. Precious Brooks of Boston will officiate. Burial will be at City Cemetery in Freeport.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of service at the church.

Ferna M. Redington
SCALES MOUND - Ferna M. "Fern" Redington, 67, of Scales Mound died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at home.
She was born May 4, 1937, in rural Easton, Minn., the daughter of Leo and Ellen (Sipple) Stevermer. Fern and Robert R. Redington were married May 7, 1957, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
In 1955, she graduated from Good Council Academy in Mankato, Minn.
Fern was a wonderful mother and a devoted Christian. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Scales Mound, Altar & Rosary Society and was a CCD director and teacher for many years. She also was a member of Hills Home Extension and Scales Mound PTA.
She had many interests, including sewing, tatting and quilting. She operated the Tack Shack Upholstery Shop in Scales Mound for several years.
Fern assisted her family with farm work, 4-H and worked at various restaurants as a cook.
In recent years, Fern was a member and president of Mended Hearts Association at mercy Medical Center. She was a member of the Life in the Spirit group and had many wonderful people praying with and for her during her numerous health challenges.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Robert R. Redington; their children, Mary (Stuart) Ohms of Galena, Theresa Redington of Richfield, Minn., Tony (Linda) Redington, Shullsburg, Wis., Margaret (Ken) Tibodeau of Easton, Minn., Tim Vickie Redington of Monticello, Minn., Tina (Kurt) Morris of Juda, Wis., and Bridget (Roger) Evans of Forreston; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (Janice) Stevermer of Albert Lea, Minn., and Alton (Rosemary) Stevermer of Easton; and three sisters, Mary Oelerking of Albert Lea, Lois (A. Ray) Kalis of Wells, Minn., and Jane (Gene) Paul of Delavan, Minn.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Howard Stevermer; and a daughter-in-law, Jackie.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Chris Kuhn, pastor, and Father James Lins as co-celebrants. Burial will be at Grant Hills Cemetery in Council Hills Township.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller & Steinke Funeral Home in Scales Mound where a Parish Scripture service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established for American Cancer Society, Grant Hills Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice.
Jack M. Shuey
CEDARVILLE - Jack M. Shuey, 81, of Cedarville died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at Freeport Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 30, 1923, in Freeport, he was the son of Garreth H. and Edna M. (Schopf) Shuey. Jack married Norma Jean Hutmacher on May 31, 1947. Norma Jean died in 1988. Jack married Betty Oswalt Mellentine in August 1989.
Jack worked at Micro Switch for 24 years and began J&N Tool Company in 1964. He retired in 1985.
He was a World War II veteran and member of the American Legion.
He also was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Congregational Church in Cedarville.
Surviving are his wife, Betty of Cedarville; sons, Mark Shuey of Fulton and Lynn Shuey of Cedarville; daughter, Joan (Paul) Baumann of St. Charles; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
His parents; first wife; one brother James; and one grandchild, Charlene Shuey, preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cedarville Emmanuel Evangelical Congregational Church with the Rev. Jack Ward officiating. Burial will be at Cedarville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial fund has been established for Cedarville Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church.
Mary Friedenbach
SAVANNA - Mary C. Friedenbach, 83, of Savanna died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
A memorial fund has been established.

Vivian L. Garrett
PECATONICA - Vivian L. Garrett, 83, of Pecatonica died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at P.A. Peterson Home in Rockford.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pecatonica United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kenneth L. Countryman Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
A memorial fund has been established.
Maggie Stansberry
FREEPORT - Maggie Stansberry, 96, of Freeport died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at Freeport Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Evangelistic Church of God In Christ. Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
