Marilyn "Joyce" Green
Marilyn "Joyce" Green, 68, of Vermont, Ill., died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004 at 1:55 p.m. at Heartland Health Care Center, Macomb. Funeral services are Monday, Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Kost Memorial Home, Vermont, with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating and burial in the Vermont Cemetery. Visitation is on Sunday from 6 - 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Vermont Christian Church or IOOF Lodge #79 or Rebekah Lodge #53.
She was born Nov. 11, 1936 in McDonough County, the daughter of Donald S. and Elizabeth (Hamm) Richey. She married Donald O. Green on June 1, 1958 in Fulton County.
She was a member of the Rebekah's Lodge #53, Vermont Christian Church. She graduated from Graham Hospital's School of Nursing in 1957 and was a Pediatrics Nurse, RN. She loved taking care of kids for 47 years, retiring from McDonough District Hospital in 1995.
Survivors include, her husband, Donald; a son, Edward A. (Angie) Green of Macomb; three daughters, Beth E. Green (John Cox), Jolynn (Lyle) Payne, both of Macomb, and Janet K. (Darren) Rind of Aledo; and six grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two infant twin brothers, Donald Dean and Scott Gene Richey and one infant sister, Jacqueline Sue Richey.
Larry E. Trial
Larry E. Trial, 62, of Columbus, Ohio, died Oct. 13, 2003, 2:20 p.m., at his home.
Funeral services were held at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Armstrong officiating. Burial was in Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation and Hospice of Bartholomew County.

Larry was born April 9, 1941 in Galesburg, the son of Claude and Ruth Freet Trial. He graduated from Alexis High School and attended Monmouth College. He married Barbara Davis March 18, 1960 at Norwood Presbyterian Church.
Larry worked as a sales rep. For container Corporation of America and also worked at Columbus Container and Wal-Mart. He was retired.
Larry was a member, elder and Bible study leader of Grace Lutheran Church; a member of Bartholomew County Senior Center and a former member of Kiwanis International.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter: Lorie Mosteller of Columbus; two sons: Larry Trial of Lansing, Mich.; and Brian Trial of Detroit; and six grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
Jack H. Kurrle
Jack H. Kurrle died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Nov. 15, 11 a.m., at Eastridge Church of the Nazarene, Kankakee. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to his daughter, Angela K. Kurrle's Scholarship Fund, 73 Southview, Kankakee, IL, 60901.
Jack was born Sept. 30, 1927, the son of Carl H. and Verna F. Scott Kurrle. He grew up and attended schools in the Dallas City Community School District. He attended Parson's College in Fairfield, Iowa and Western Illinois University in Macomb, earning a bachelor degree in math and physics and a master's degree in administration. He was awarded a National Science Foundation grant to attend Texas A & M University, College Station, Texas, where he did post graduate work in geology and earth science.
Jack was a veteran, having served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of 1st class petty officer, the highest possible to achieve in the four year time span of his service. He was an aerographer and was stationed aboard the USS Hancock when it was commissioned. It was the first aircraft carrier equipped with steam catapult to launch jets.
He was a member of Aledo American Legion Post 121. He served as commander and in several other capacities in the organization.
Jack was a mason for 47 years and a member of the Aledo Masonic Lodge 252, where he served as worshipful master. His father and grandfather were both 50+ year members.
During his training in aerographer school, he became an instructor for other recruits. This served as the catalyst to instill the desire to pursue a profession in the field of education.
He began his teaching career in the Nauvoo Illinois School System. He also taught five years in Ft. Madison, Iowa junior high school, where he coordinated and implemented a team-teaching system. Jack was also teacher and principal at Ferris Illinois Elementary School in Hancock County. He served 13 years as principal of Northside Junior High School in Aledo, retiring in Illinois in 1984. He then finished his 30-year career in education teaching earth science in the Davenport, Iowa school system.
Jack was an avid sports fan and participant. He was a very talented athlete, excelling in baseball, softball and basketball. He played basketball at the college level. He coached both boys and girls basketball and track for many years.
Jack was a dedicated American Red Cross donor, who had donated 14 gallons of blood.
In March 1953, Jack married Donna M. Van Hyning of Lomax. They shared 50 years of love and companionship, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary this year. This union was blessed with four children: Angela, Jacqueline, Chris and Dean. Angela preceded her father in Death in June 2003.
Survivors include his wife: Donna; daughter: Jacqueline; son: Dean, all of Kankakee; son: Chris and daughter-in-law: Konstance and grandchildren, Kayla and Conner, all of Pocohontas; brother: Scott (Irene) Kurrle of Cape Coral, Fla.; a sister: Wanda (Richard) Goetz of Omaha, Neb.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former colleagues and extended family and friends.
Agnes L. Pruessing
Agnes L. Pruessing, 80, of Sumter, S.C., formerly of Galesburg, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, 3 p.m., at her home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 29 at the North Henderson United Methodist Church in North Henderson, with the Rev. Delores DeArmond officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in North Henderson. Friends may call Saturday at the church where her family will be present from 10-11 a.m. Memorials may be given to the church.

Agnes was born Feb. 21, 1923 in North Henderson, the daughter of George and Cecil (Bair) Gordon. She was reared and educated in North Henderson, attending school in Alpha and Alexis. She graduated from Alexis High School in 1941.
Agnes married Charles "Speed" Pruessing in Coal Valley on Oct. 27, 1945 and he died Feb. 2, 2002.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and bowling.
Agnes was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Galesburg.
Survivors include her daughter: Sue Ann (Marvin) Fuller of Sumter, S.C.; two grandsons: Gregory (Vicki) Fuller and Robert Fuller, both of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters: Joan (Robert) Hunt of Galesburg; Barbara (Ward) Roseberry of Galesburg; and one brother: Ron Gordon of Bloomfield, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers: Tom Gordon and Don Gordon.
Judy L. Eggen
Judy L. Eggen, 58, of Joy, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 at Mercer County Hospital in Aledo.
Services 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo with the Rev. Richard Bishop officiating. Burial at Peniel Cemetery in rural Joy. Visitation from 12 noon-2 p.m., Sunday at Fippinger Funeral Home where memorials may be left to the Joy United Methodist Church.
Judy was born Sept. 24, 1945 in Muscatine, Iowa, a daughter of Melvin and Betty Bachelor Ziegenhorn. She graduated from Westmer High School and married Michael L. Eggen on Jan. 24, 1963 in Joy.
Judy was employed for the Westmer School District in the food service department, retiring in 1999. She enjoyed being with her family.
Survivors include her husband: Mike; three sons and daughters-in-law: Marty and Marnie Eggen of Atkinson; Mark Eggen of Mannon; and Chris and Nicole Eggen of Aledo; three grandchildren: Christina and Amber Eggen of Aledo; and Matthew Eggen of Atkinson; her mother: Betty Ziegenhorn of Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo; one sister: Jayne Russell of Aledo; and one brother: Edward Ziegenhorn of Eliza.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Dr. Charlie Leroy Gritton
Dr. Charlie Leroy Gritton, 86, of Henderson, Ky., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2003 at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Ky.
Graveside services 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Millersburg Cemetery.

Charlie was born Jan. 4, 1917 in New Boston, the son of Lewis and Eunice Matthews Gritton. He married his wife of 64 years, Virginia Hyett. She died Feb. 19, 2003.
Charlie was a 1948 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.
He was a Henderson Chiropractor for over 50 years.
Charlie was a Kentucky Colonel in World War II U.S. Army veteran - founding member of the Henderson Disabled American Veterans.
He was a Seventh Street P.T. A. President - United Commercial Travelers - served as Indiana State Treasurer.
Survivors include three daughters: Myrna Taylor of Franklin, Ky.; Marcia Littlefield of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and Joy Gritton of Morehead, Ky.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Vivian Irwin, Margaret Travis, and Marjorie Hintermeister, all of Muscatine, Iowa; one brother: Robert Gritton of Russellville, Ark.; nieces and nephews; and a special neighbor: Donald Steele of Henderson, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter: Kahla Bowling; his parents; one sister: Evelyn Elliott; and one brother: Paul Gritton.
Patricia Ann McNall
Patricia Ann McNall, 74, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at her home after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Pat was born May 30, 1929 in San Bernadino, Calif., the daughter of Frank Goff and Zaida Cox Foley. She was raised primarily in Monmouth and lived most of her life in Aledo with her husband their children. She married Ronald McNall Oct. 18, 1968 in Galesburg.
Pat devoted her life to her family. Her greatest pleasure was raising her children and positively influencing the lives of many others. She had a quick wit, a gentle hand and a loving touch. She was important in the lives of countless others and was the common thread which will continue to hold her large extended family together. She was a member of the Mercer County VFW Auxiliary, Oak View Country Club and First Baptist Church in Aledo.
Pat and Ron's greatest joy of late was being the guardians of two of their grandchildren. In celebration of her life and in tribute to her, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Eli and Kara Sloan College Education Fund c/o The Country Bank, 1308 SE 4th St., Aledo, IL 61231.

Wilma A. Dahl
Wilma A. Dahl, 91, of rural Alexis, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at Mercer County Nursing Home in Aledo.
Funeral services 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 29 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo with the Rev. David W. Schweppe officiating. Burial in the Aledo cemetery. Visitation from 6-8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 28 at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the Messiah Lutheran Church in Aledo.
Wilma was born Aug. 15, 1912 near Aledo a daughter of Henry and Josephine Gustafson Anderson. She graduated from Aledo High School in 1930. She married Everett Dahl Nov. 28, 1935 in Aledo. He died in 1987.
She was employed at Martha Browns and the Foster Flower Shop in Aledo and was also employed at Para Lees in Monmouth.
Wilma was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, the WELCA and was a 50-year member of the OES Sisters Charity Chapter # 512 in Seaton.
She enjoyed playing bridge in several area card clubs.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Daryl and Nancy Gardner Dahl; two granddaughters: Kimberly and Kathryn Dahl, all of Lincoln, Neb.; sisters-in-laws: Jean Gregory of Alexis; and Dorothy Levine of Seaton; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother: Selma Anderson; and sisters: Gladys Meier, Dorothy Olson; and sister-in-law: Anna Marie Day.

Dorothy E. Parker Howard, 80, formerly of Hickory, N.C., died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at Aledo Health and Rehab Center in Aledo.
Services 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory, N.C., with visitation two hours prior to the service. Burial in Fairview Cemetery in Hickory, N.C. Visitation will also be 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26 at Dennison Funeral Home in Viola.

Dorothy was born Sept. 3, 1923 in Shoshone, Wyo., the daughter of Gertrude Richardson. She married Kenneth Parker July 3, 1941 in Lander, Wyo. He died March 11, 1955. She married Herbert Miller in 1961 in Billings, Mt. He died Oct. 16, 1969. Dorothy married Fay Howard April 23, 1971 in Portage, Ind. He died Feb. 6, 1999.
Dorothy was employed as a L.P.N. at various locations over the years. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was past senior regent of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose Lodge in Portage, Ind.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law: Brenda and Gary Robbins of Viola; Connie Autry of Lake Station, Ind.; Rebecca Drummond and Alan Maunton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sons and daughters-in-law: William and Carolyn Parker of Moline; Michael and Sharon Parker of Lake Station, Ind.; and Kenneth and Linda Parker of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one brother: Albert Anderson of Spokane, Wash.

Virginia Barnes Spence of Murrells Inlet, S.C., died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Virginia was born April 2, 1917 in Elm City, N.C., the daughter of the late William E. and Emma Harrison Barnes. She was a homemaker.
Virginia was a member of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Pearl Smith Circle.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years: Don Spence; daughter: Virginia Anne Reed and husband David W.; grandchildren: Laura Anne Sturkie and husband Mark; Stephanie Virginia Reed and Eric Spence Reed and wife Jennifer, all of Lexington, S.C.; great-grandchildren: Sarah Anne Sturkie, Hannah Elizabeth Sturkie and Anderson Spence Reed and brother, William Barnes of Wilson, N.C.

G. Lester Davis, 88, of Hannibal and formerly of Alexis, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Graveside funeral services and burial was 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14 at the Alexis Cemetery with the Rev. Delbert Icenogle officiating. Friends called after 3 p.m., with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 13 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel in Alexis.
Lester was born Aug. 29, 1915 in Chaonia to Philip S. and Lucy Wilson Davis. He was reared and educated in Chaonia.
He was married to Mildred West on Oct. 28, 1935, in Greenville. She preceded him in death Dec. 14, 1997.
Lester was a farmer. He retired from Bulter Manufacturing, having worked there for 10 years. He was a member of the 60 Plus Club of Alexis.
Survivors include three daughters: Kathryn (Fred) Cohoon of Hannibal; Barbara S. (Larry) of Columbus, Ind.; and Ruth Shafer of Salteo, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Roy Davis of Rockford; and Orville Davis of Pekin; one sister: Thelma Gullett of Poplar Bluff; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Homer Davis and Phillip Davis; and four sisters.
