Josephine Chasta Swanson Fennell, 88, a resident of Clemson, SC, since 1995, formerly of Galesburg, Camp Grove, Peoria, Joliet, Oswego, and Boynton Beach, FL, died January 2, 2004, at Clemson Downs Nursing Home, Clemson, SC.
Born January 9, 1915, in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Nathaniel “Tony” and Edith Holmes Swanson, she married Robert Emmett Fennell in 1941. He died January 7, 1993, in Florida. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Jennie R. Strange.
Surviving are three sons, Robert Fennell, Jr.(Sharon), of Clemson, South Carolina, William Fennell (Gloria) of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and David Fennell of West Branch, Iowa, one daughter, E. Ann Anderson of Wheaton, Illinois, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and one brother, William Swanson of Pontiac, Illinois.
She and her family moved from Los Angeles to Galesburg, Illinois, in 1917. She graduated from Galesburg High School and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Knox College in 1937. She worked as a librarian at the Galesburg Public Library until her marriage in 1941. She and her husband then lived in Camp Grove, then later in Peoria until 1950. They then lived in Joliet, Illinois, and later Oswego, Illinois, where she was instrumental in establishing the public library. They retired to Boynton Beach, Florida.
A funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2004, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Camp Grove. Rev. Robert Rayson and Rev. Patrick Fennell will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2004, at Wyoming. Funeral Home, Wyoming., with recitation of the Rosary at 8:00. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, rural Camp Grove.

John H. Elsasser, 84, of Princeville, died at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, where he had been a patient for 10 days.
Born April 5, 1919, in Edelstein, Illinois, the son of William and Marie Hoerr Elsasser, he married Lillian M. Knobloch on September 7, 1941, in Princeville. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James (Vickie) Elsasser of Dunlap, Illinois, and Brian (Mary Beth) Elsasser of Princeville, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His parents, two sons, Steve Elsasser and Mark Elsasser, one great-grandson, four sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.
He was a World War II Army Veteran serving four years, part of that time in the South Pacific as a medic. He farmed near Edelstein, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau and the Peoria County Beef Improvement Association.
He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church, Princeville, where funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003. Ministers of the Church officiated. Visitation was from 2 - 4 p.m. and 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2003, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, and forty-five minutes prior to the funeral at the church on Tuesday. Burial was in Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Princeville.

Harley L. Catton, 77, of Princeville, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center Emergency Department.
Born May 8, 1926 at West Jersey, Illinois, the son of Carl and Myrtle Quine Catton, he married Lila M. Johnson on November 4, 1946, in Belton, Texas.
She survives, along with two sons, Larry E. (Marjorie) Catton of Dunlap, Illinois, Stephen H. Catton, of Princeville, two daughters, Pam (Don) Diver of Dunlap, and Timie Sue (Terry) Rasmussen of Princeville, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. He first worked as a section hand for the Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Railroad for 13 years, then worked for Thermogas as a bulk driver for 25 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where services will be held Thursday, January 8, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Harry Losey will officiate. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery.

Robert V. Hickman, 78, formerly of St. Louis, Missouri, died at 7:05 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at Toulon Health Care Center where he was a resident.
Born November 13, 1925, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Robert E. and Vivian Bennett Hickman.
Surviving are one daughter, Judy (Barry) Taylor of Toulon, Illinois; one son, Daryl Hickman of Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
He was a World War II Army Veteran. He worked for the Florissant Valley Community College Campus Police in Florissant, Missouri, as a policeman for 20 years. He was a member of the St. Louis Admirals R/C Boat Club in St. Louis, Missouri.
Graveside services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2003, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. Rev. Jerry Rafalko officiated. There was no visitation.

Lyle Ray Clinebell, 86, of Wyoming., died at Proctor Hospital at 5 a.m. on December 18, 2003, of physical complications following a week fighting the flu.
He was born June 9, 1917 to Ray Arthur and Elinor Agnes (Essex) Clinebell of Glasford, IL. He attended schools in Peoria and Stark Counties, completing the Caterpillar Apprentice Courses at Bradley University in 1938. He was a career mechanical engineer, serving in armament plants such as Emerson Electric and various others during the war. He set up and managed the Aldrich Company from 1946 until he returned to Cat as a project engineer in the late 60’s. He invented a crop drier, which is still in use, and a prototype of a hydraulically operated disc tiller used by International Harvester.
He married Helen Louise (Kimmel) Clinebell on September 17, 1938. She preceded him in death, as did three sons, one sister and his parents. He is survived by two sons, Gary of Wyoming. and Richard of St. Louis, his sister Rosemary Thomson of Cedar Rapids, his stepmother Emily of Peoria, two grandchildren, John of Tucson and Sarah of Phoenix (Jim’s children) and two great-grandchildren.
Lyle was a member of the Wyoming. Congregational Church and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite.
Following the funeral service at his church, on December 20, he was buried near his birthplace at Lancaster Cemetery.

Cleveland A. Luckett lately of Northbrook, IL and long time resident of Toulon, passed away at the Glenbrook Hospital on November 26, 2003 following a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Jane Penn Luckett and his daughter, Mary Luckett Winburn of Glenview, Illinois.
Mr. Luckett was born July 16, 1910 in Moscow Mills, Missouri to Edith and Richard Cleveland Luckett. He was for many years an employee of The Hartford Insurance Company in its farm department. He enjoyed serving on the boards of directors of several of the group of Better Banks. Mr. Luckett was a strong supporter of the Kewanee Hospital Foundation, the University of Illinois Foundation, the Salvation Army, Cottey College and the Boy Scouts of America. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Eleanor G. Stephens, 84, formerly of Castleton, died at 10:57 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2003, at Toulon Health Care Center where she was a resident.
Born January 14, 1919, in Bradford, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Clara Imes Champion, she married LaVerne Stephens on September 14, 1937, in Iowa. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Danny (Carol) Stephens of Wyoming., Illinois; five daughters, Linda (Lonny) Dennison of Toulon, Illinois, Janice (Francis) Hollis of Wyoming., Illinois, Karen (Paul) Shane and Debra (James) Waite both of South Carolina, and Lori (George) Lacy of Castleton, Illinois; 20 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Her parents, one daughter, Janet Goodman, two brothers, three sisters, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren preceded her in death.
She worked at Breeze in Wyoming., Illinois, for many years.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2003, at Wyoming. Funeral Home, Wyoming.. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at Wyoming. Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery, Bradford.

Frederick P. Carroll, 91, of Brimfield, died 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2003, at his residence.
Born October 13, 1912, in Brimfield, Illinois, the son of Francis “Frank” and Mary Ellen Maher Carroll, he married Frances M. Burrus on November 25, 1943, in Galesburg, Illinois. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Fred (Brenda) Carroll, Martin (Teri) Carroll, and Michael (Theresa) Carroll all of Brimfield, Illinois; two daughters, Martha (Jerry) Scheirer of Metamora, Illinois, and Ruth (Bill) McKown of Brimfield, Illinois; 22 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. His parents and one brother, Robert Carroll, preceded him in death.
He farmed north of Brimfield his entire life. He served on the Calvary Cemetery Board, was a founding member of the Brimfield Farmer’s Club and was a 20-year member of the Brimfield Fire District Board.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Brimfield, where a Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2003. Rev. Lawrence Morrissey officiated. Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Brimfield, with recitation of Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, rural Brimfield.

John M. Price, 59, of Tacoma, Washington, formerly of Wyoming., Illinois, died Thursday, December 4, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, Washington.
Born April 5, 1944, in Kewanee, Illinois, the son of John and Helen Frisby Price, he married Patricia Pierpont on March 21, 1964, in Gardena, California. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Kimberly (Scott) Rees of Hoquian, WA; one son, Wayne (fiancé Christine Balcome) Price of Purdy, WA; five grandsons; two granddaughters; five brothers, Thomas (Anda) Price of Geneseo, IL, Bill (Judy) Price of Toulon, IL, Harry (Judy) Price of Oklahoma City, OK, Jim (Joyce) Price of Wyoming., IL, and Bob (Wanda) Price of Oquawka, IL; and three sisters, Judy (Mike) Manus of Muldraugh, KY, Tammy (Richard) Pierpont of Port Orchard, WA, and Sharon (John) Gutierrez of Montclair, CA. His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.
He was a self-employed general contractor. He enjoyed bowling, golf and his family.
Cremation rites have been accorded by American Burial & Cremation Services, Sumner, WA.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Tacoma, WA.

Sharon K. Eads, 62, of 1408 W. Streitmatter Rd, died at 6:30 pm Sunday, December 7, 2003, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, where she had been a patient for two weeks.
Born July 26, 1941, in Peoria, the daughter of Charles J. and Bessie Graham Seei, she married Larry J. Eads on June 8, 1963, in Princeville. He survives, along with her mother of Edelstein, three sons, Jeffrey (Keky), and Christopher, both of Princeville, and Timothy at home, six grandchildren, and two brothers, Charles Seei of Edelstein, and Richard (Jo) Seei of Washington, IL. Her father preceded her in death.
She attended Bradley University and I.C.C. and worked as a CNA, caring for elderly patients in the area for many years. She and her husband also worked as assistant managers at Independence Village, Peoria, and she also drove a school bus for Princeville School District #326 for 21 years. She was a member of St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church, Dunlap, where she taught Sunday School and served as a Eucharistic Minister.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2003, at St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church, Dunlap. Rev. Father Bruce Lopez will officiate. Visitation were from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, with a Scripture Service at 8:00 p.m. There was also a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Thursday. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Peoria.

Memorial services for J. Robert Cook, 51, Indianapolis, Indiana, a WFYI channel 20 producer were at 1:30 Friday November 28, 2003 at Prince of Peace United Church of Christ, Bargersville. He died November 25, 2003.
Mr. Cook produced documentaries and shows for 26 years at the Public Broadcasting Service affiliate.
He was an original member of WFYI’s “Across Indiana” production team and was a longtime producer of WFYI’s “Indiana Lawmakers” series.
Mr. Cook’s most recent production was the 90-minute “A Hoosier Guide to Good Eats: An Across Indian Special,” which will premier in December on WFYI.
In 2001, he produced “Painting Indiana.”
In the spring 2003, Mr. Cook produced “Naturally Indiana,” a film about state parks, nature preserves and natural wonders.
He has received many awards, including six Emmys.
Mr. Cook also received a Humanities Achievement Award from the Indiana Humanities Council for his critically acclaimed documentary “Visible Empire: the Ku Klux Klan in Indiana 1921-1928.” The film was distributed nationally and aired on more than 100 PBS stations.
Mr. Cook was a graduate of Oakland Community College and the University of Michigan. He received a master’s degree from Indiana University, where he was an associate instructor.

He is survived by his sister, Rev. Judith A. Cook, Toulon, Illinois and pastor of United Presbyterian Church in Elmira, Illinois.
Forrest E. Lewis, 81, of rural Toulon, died at 7:09 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2003, at Toulon Health Care Center.
Born February 23, 1922, the son of Samuel and Nettie Burcham Lewis, he married Alice Foglesong on September 14, 1952, in Toulon. She survives, along with one daughter, Sharon (and Bill) Hull of Galesburg, and one son, Ronald (Rosanna) Lewis of Waterloo, IA, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. one sister and two brothers preceded him in death.
He worked for Kraft Foods in Toulon for many years, and also was in charge of the Toulon School District buses for many years. He was a past member of the Toulon Fire Department and a member of the First Baptist Church of Toulon.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at DeBolt-Kidd Funeral Home. Rev. Al Harmon will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Toulon Cemetery.

Elsie L. Keller, 90, a long-time resident of Princeville, died at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at Manor Care in Peoria, where she has been a resident since October 1, 2002.
Born August 28, 1913, in Peoria, the daughter of Frank and Edith Barrett Turner, she married Karl K. Keller on September 4, 1948, in Rock Island, Illinois. He died November 14, 1998, in Peoria.
Surviving are one daughter, Charlotte (Howard) Yates of Wyoming., Illinois; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and one sister, Helen Rink of Peoria, Illinois. One son, Donald Keller, one grandson, three brothers, and three sisters preceded her in death.
She worked as a clerk for many years for Springer’s Variety Store, later Villa Variety, in Princeville. She then was a monitor for Princeville Baptist Academy. She was a member of the Historical Association of Princeville and a charter member of Princeville Baptist Church.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2003, at Princeville Baptist Church. Pastors Tedd Butler & Lee Taylor officiated. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2003, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home. Burial was in Princeville Cemetery.

F. M. Meredith Tracy, 89, of Joliet, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center. He was born in Bradford, Illinois, to Don and Mabel (House) Tracy. They preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death were twin daughters; one brother and one sister.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leola (Phillips) Tracy; two sons, Arnold J. (Renate) Tracy, and Roger L. (Anne) Tracy; two granddaughters, Beth (James) Warnecke and Susan (Eugene) Sladek; two great grandchildren, Elyse and Jonathon Warnecke.
He lived in the Kewanee area and has been a resident of Joliet since 1956. He was retired from Commonwealth Edison where he worked for 37 years.
He was a WW II Navy veteran and a member of Judson Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 22 at 10 a.m. at the Balckburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home in Joliet. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation was on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Judson Baptist Church would be appreciated.
