James Thomas O'Donnell, Jr.
James Thomas O'Donnell, Jr., age 63, of Lanark died March 4, 2007 in Rockford following a long illness.
James was born September 24, 1943 in Cambridge, MA. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force who served in Vietnam. O'Donnell retired from IBM and worked as a consultant with Washington Systems Consulting, Interactive Business Systems, and The O'Donnell Group. He was an active member of Lanark United Methodist Church and the Lanark Lions club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary O'Donnell of Lanark; daughters, Jennifer (Scott) O'Donnell-Taylor of Austin, TX and Lisa (Ken) Ferguson of Palmyra, VA; and ten loving grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Kathleen (Steve) Gilman-Flammia of Largo, FL, Robert (Lorraine) O'Donnell, Ann Blackall, Jane O'Donnell, Richard O'Donnell, and Edward (Kathy) O'Donnell or greater Boston area; and 11 nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Elizabeth (Paul) Judd and Sherry Sutphen of Lanark, Michael Copeland of Bedford, TX and Joshua (Tami) Copeland of North Richland Hills, TX. His father and mother, James T. O'Donnell, Sr. and Mary O'Donnell, precede James in death.
A memorial has been established to the American Heart Association and to a local scholarship in his name. Donations can be sent to the Lanark United Methodist Church, 405 East Locust St., Lanark IL 61046.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at the Lanark United Methodist Church. Visitations will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Fireplace Room at the church.
Russell-Frank Funeral Home, Lanark completed the arrangements.

Mabel Wolf
Mabel Wolf, age 96, of Mt. Carroll previously of Chicago died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
Funeral Services will be held in Chicago with burial in the Bohemian National Cemetery, Chicago.
Mabel was the mother of Carol Endre of Mt. Carroll and Mary Jane Lyle of Westchester.

Brenda S. Reed
Brenda S. Reed, age 41, of Lanark died Saturday, March 3, 2007.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007 at the Church of The Brethren, Lanark, with Pastor John Sgro officiating. Burial will be in the Brethren Cemetery, Shannon. Visitations will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home, Lanark. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Brenda was born June 30, 1965 in Freeport, daughter of Donnie and Janet (Traum) Wallace. She was a 1983 graduate of Shannon High School. She was married in 1989 to Allan Reed at the Shannon Methodist Church. She was employed at FHN Memorial Hospital for the last 20 years, and was a member of the Church of The Brethren, Lanark. She loved serving as the scorekeeper for the Summer Baseball Program in Lanark and she loved winter.
Brenda is survived by her husband of Lanark; two sons, Benjamin Russell Reed and Matthew Bryce Reed both of Lanark; mother, Janet Wallace of Shannon; father and stepmother, Donnie and Mary Wallace of Freeport; sister, Tammy Henry Ihus of Freeport; brother, James Wallace (Liz Hutmacher) of Shannon; two nieces, Courtney and Stephanie Ihus of Freeport; and one nephew, Joseph Ihus of Freeport.
Her twin sons; infant brother, Rodney; and infant sister, Dianna, precede Brenda in death.

Dorothy L. Zink
Dorothy L. Zink, age 86, of Chadwick, Illinois, died Wednesday, April 09, 2008, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mount Carroll, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Chadwick, Illinois with Pastor Josh Jensen of the Chadwick Evangelical Free Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home in Chadwick just prior to the Service. Following the funeral service, Dorothy's body will be donated to medical science. A Memorial fund has been established in Dorothy's name. Dorothy was born on May 27, 1921, the daughter of Walter and Mary Elizabeth (Jones) Fulrath. She attended Mt. Carroll schools and after marrying Merle E. Zink on February 14th, 1941, in Clinton, Iowa, Dorothy farmed with her husband in the Pols Grove, Illinois area. Dorothy also worked as the Post Office janitor in Chadwick for many years, and for the Warners and the Acker Implement Companies. Merle passed away in Chadwick on June 12, 1998. Dorothy was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Chadwick and in her spare time loved crocheting, playing cards, putting puzzles together, reading, fishing, gardening, but most of all spending time with her family.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Ronald) Norman of Chadwick; her son Ronnie (Phyllis) Zink of Mt. Carroll; six grandchildren: Tina (Mark) Updike, Tim (Renee') Nye, David (Beth) Norman, Thomas Norman, Eric Zink, and Lara Zink; and six great grandchildren: Crystal Updike, Josh Updike, James Nye, Chelsea Nye, Jonathon Norman, and Madison Norman.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, and a sister.

Geraldine P. Johnson, age 87, of Chadwick, Illinois, formerly of Keokuk, Iowa, died on Monday, April 14, 2008 at her daughters home in Chadwick. Arrangements are pending at the Dejong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, Iowa

Norris L. Hartman, Sr.
Norris L. Hartman, Sr., age 76, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died suddenly Monday, April 14, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Burial will be in Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00pm Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll.

Kevin D. Hovis
Kevin D. Hovis, age 50, of Savanna, Illinois died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Illinois. Kevin was born on June 28, 1957, in Burbank, California, and attended school in Burbank through High School. On June 15, 1991, Kevin married Julie Worden in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kevin and Julie made their home in Savanna, Illinois where Kevin was employed as a Lineman for a Cable TV Company.
In his spare time, Kevin loved cooking, morel hunting, fishing, was active in Boy Scouts, and an avid Harley enthusiast, but most of all, he loved to spend time with his familyKevin will be dearly missed by hiwife Julie; his five children: Stephanie Neelings, of California, Courtnee Worden, of Savanna, Haylee Hovis, of Savanna, Kevin Jr., of Savanna, and Laycee Hovis, of Savanna; two grandchildren: Corry and Dylan; and two brothers: Michael (Debbie) Hovis, and Ben Hovis.
Kevin is preceded in death by his mother Helen (nee McMahon), a son Jason, and three sisters, Pat, Nancy, and Janis.

James F. Swan Sr.
James F. Swan Sr., age 64, of Benton, Wisconsin, formerly of Beetown, Wisconsin, died Friday, April 11, 2008, at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, Madison, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 15th, at 11:30 a.m., at the Assembly of God Church, Savanna, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Assembly of God Church prior to the service. Burial will be on Wednesday, April 16th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Beardstown Cemetery, Beardstown, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. James F. Swan was born June 7, 1943, in Beardstown, Illinois, the son of William and Ila (Fritz) Swan. He attend school in Beardstown. Jim married Karen Sue Charlesworth on August 1, 1974, in Jacksonville, Illinois. He worked as a commercial fisherman on the Mississippi River. Jim attended the Assembly of God Church in Savanna. Jim enjoyed hunting, singing, and playing his guitar.
Jim will be dearly missed by his wife Karen Sue of Benton; his daughters, Judy (Tony) Lyles of Annawan, Illinois, Sue Swan of Beardstown, and Karen (Michael) Budworth of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; his sons, Jim Swan Jr. of Savanna, Franklin (Christine) Swan Sr. of Wauzeka, Wisconsin, Jamie (Tracy) Swan of Fairchild, Wisconsin, Perry (Corrina) Swan of Lancaster, Wisconsin, Glenn (Nichole) Swan of Lancaster, and Robert Swan of Lancaster; twenty grandchildren, seven great ­ grandchildren; his brothers, Perry, Henry, Harold, and Robert Swan; and his sisters Willa Fisher, Virginia Hood, and Nancy Maher.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Ida Eileen Swan, and his brother Charles Swan.

Tabertas "Bub" Anderson
Tabertas "Bub" Anderson, 59, of Savanna, died Monday, April 11, 2005 in the Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford.
Funeral services for Bub were held Friday, April 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Private family burial will be at a later date. Visitation for Bub will be Thursday, April 14, 2005, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
Tabertas was born October 2, 1945 in Savanna, the son of William and Hazel (Green) Anderson. On September 14, 1965, Bub was united in marriage to Ruth Noble.
"Bub" grew up in the Savanna area, he worked eighteen years for the Milwaukee Railroad, thirteen years delivering milk for Bert Bogue of Mello Gold company, twelve years delivering papers for the Clinton Herald, three years working for Jody Prowant, five years with P.K. McGinnis Vegetable Market in Thomson, and four years operating a tractor on the Bimm McGinnis Farm. He was in the "Pool League" for seven years. "Bub" had fun collecting tin cans and old toy cars. He enjoyed going camping in his pop-up camper with the family. Bub was known for his great sense of humor, teasing and joking with friends and family.
Bub will be deeply missed by his mother; wife, Ruth and two sons; John Anderson of Kansas City, Missouri and William Anderson of Savanna; four daughters, Tammy Thorpe of Rock Falls; Sue (David) Hood of Swifton Arkansas; Sherry (Kendall) McNees of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and Laura Cox of Clinton, Iowa; ten grandchildren and one on the way; two step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers; Leroy and Sam Anderson both of Savanna and Richard Anderson of Chicago.
His father; infant daughter, Joyce; a son-in-law, Frank Cox; and two sisters, Leona and Ellen Anderson, precede Bub in death.

Louise B. Johnson
Louise B. Johnson, age 78, of Shannon died Monday, April 11, 2005 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Louise was born June 14, 1926 in Pasen, daughter of Andrew and Angeline (Dzuiba) Miller. Louise married Charles Johnson on January 25, 1947 in Chicago. She was a member of St. Wendelin's Catholic Church in Shannon, VFW Auxiliary in Midlothian, IL American Legion Auxiliary in Shannon, was a board member of the Wee Care Pre School in Shannon and enjoyed gardening.
Louise will be deeply missed by her husband, Charles of Shannon; two sons, Alan (Deb) Johnson of Shannon and Eric (Laurie) Johnson of Chesterton, IN; daughter, Beverly Louise Archer of Markham; three brothers, Andrew Miller of Lake Station, IN, Leo (Virginia) Miller of Chetek, WI and Thomas (Linda) Miller of Cumberlin Furnace, TN; two sisters, Anna Ficek of Richton Park and Helen (Frank) Wielgorecki of Posen; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Her parents precede Louise in death.
Visitations were held from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005 at the Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon, where a Rosary Service was held at 6 p.m. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2005 at St. Wendelin's Catholic Church in Shannon with burial in the Church Cemetery.

Pearl Jane Flemming
Pearl Jane Flemming, age 93, of Preston, Iowa passed away Friday, April 15, 2005 at Maquoketa Care Center, Maquoketa, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Preston. Prior to the funeral services, a visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. Pastor Gregory Geier will officiate. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Preston, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the family in Pearl's memory. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. Pearl was born May 12, 1911 in Andrew, Iowa, the daughter of Chris and Bertha (Siegel) Hankemeier. Pearl married Harold H. Flemming on September 7, 1933 in Andrew. Harold died on March 25, 1999. Pearl was a proud homemaker and farm wife, raising their three children. Pearl enjoyed crocheting, traveling, and gardening vegetables and flowers.
Pearl will be deeply missed by two daughters, Nancy (Richard) Haynes of Sabula, IA, and Norma (Steve) Round of Maquoketa, IA; one daughter-in-law, Pat Flemming of Miles, IA; two brothers, Edwin (Madonna) Hankemeier of Andrew, IA, and Robert (Velma) Hankemeier of Andrew, IA; two sisters, Bernice (Arnold) Bartels of Delmar, IA, and Verna Luke of Maquoketa, IA; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Her husband, Harold; one son, Dean Flemming; three brothers, Marvin Hankmeier, Benjamin Hankemeier, and Elmer Hankemeier; and one sister, Irma Achen, precede Pearl in death.

Mary Shaw
Mary Shaw, age 94, of Elizabeth, died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, at the Elizabeth United Methodist Church, with Pastor David Poust officiating. Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. Condolences may be given to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Mary was born January 19, 1911 in Elizabeth Township, the daughter of Raymond and Nona (Allen) Williams. She attended the Allen Country School, rural Elizabeth. Mary married Glen Shaw, Sr. March 9, 1931 in Galena. Glen died November 23, 2000.
Mary farmed with her husband, Glen, and worked in Hanover, at Valves and Controls. She was a member of the Elizabeth United Methodist Church. Mary enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. She also enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
Mary will be deeply missed by her son, Glen (Glynn Ellen) Shaw, Jr.; two grandchildren, Randy (Cindy) Shaw and Lynn K. (Lynn A.) Pease, all of Elizabeth; five great grandchildren, Bill (Katie) Longmore, Sandy Shaw, and Jessica, Michael and Derek Pease. Both parents, her husband, two brothers and a sister, precede Mary in death.

Lee Arthur Divelbiss
Lee Arthur Divelbiss, age 83, of Mt. Carroll, died Saturday, April 16, 2005 at the Veteran's Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.
Cremation will take place. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with Reverend Bob Ziebarth of the Mt. Carroll First Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, with Full Military Rites given by the Mt. Carroll American Legion. Memorials may be given to the family in Lee's name. Condolences may be sent at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Lee was born March 17, 1922 in Wacker, the son of Wilbur and Hilda (Schindler) Divelbiss. He married Betty Morgan May 6, 1946 in Mt. Carroll.
Lee served in the United States Army during WWII, taking part in the Normandy, European and Rhineland Campaigns. He is a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal of Honor. Lee worked as an Independent Truck Driver. He liked fishing, mushroom hunting and having coffee with his buddies. He especially enjoyed playing with his great grandchildren.
Lee will be dearly missed by his wife, Betty of Mt. Carroll; his daughter, Diana Preston of Mt. Carroll; two grandsons, Randy (Monica) Preston and Russell (Brenda) Preston; two great grandchildren, Jarek and Brianna Preston; and his brother, Grant (Betty) Divelbiss of Buchanan, Tennessee. His parents, a brother, Wilbur, and two great grandchildren, Kyle and Zachary Preston, precede Lee in death.

John W. Ulin
John W. Ulin, age 80, of Sabula, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, after a brief stay at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna.
Cremation will take place and private graveside inurnment will be at a later date in Sigourney, Iowa. Memorials may be given in John's name to the Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna.
John was born July 9, 1924 in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Walter and Stella (Parkhill) Ulin. He married Laura "Lucille" Dillon August 14, 1965 in Conifer, Colorado.
John worked for the City of Cedar Rapids, Iowa Health Department. He had also farmed, had been a salesman, a mechanic, and worked for Collins Radio on communications equipment for the Apollo I Mission. He enjoyed working.
John liked to watch Robert Schuler Ministries on TV. He and Lucille enjoyed their hobby of leather crafting, operating J & L Leather at flea markets.
John will be dearly missed by his wife, Laura "Lucille" Ulin of Sabula, Iowa; two step daughters, DeLores (James) Jacobs of Bryant, Iowa and Karen Dillon of Sabula, Iowa; his brother, Charles (Eveleen) Ulin of Sigourney, Iowa; and two sisters, Juanita (Richard) Cook of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Almeta Stein of Sigourney, Iowa. John was preceded in death by both parents.
