Robert A. Gehrig, 79, of Peoria, formerly of Edelstein, died 11:55 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2003, in the Emergency Room at Proctor Hospital, Peoria.
Born June 8, 1923, in Lawn Ridge, Illinois, the son of Robert F. and Caroline Streitmatter Gehrig, he married Martha Helen Oppelz on August 30, 1942, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are 3 sons, Jim (Gloria) Gehrig of Edelstein, Illinois, Kenny (Donna) Gehrig of Princeville, Illinois, and Keith (Karen) Gehrig of Edelstein, Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Howard (Betty) Gehrig of Nashville, Tennessee, and Floyd (Betty) Gehrig of Dunlap, Illinois; and 1 sister, Daisy (and Clarence) Kreiter of Pekin, Illinois. His parents, three brothers, Louis Gehrig, Edwin Gehrig, and Ralph Gehrig, and one sister, Dorothy Bodell preceded him in death.
He was a World War II Navy Veteran serving aboard the USS Nashville in the Pacific Theater. After leaving the Navy he then farmed the family farm in the Edelstein area until retiring in 1985. He was a 50-year member of the Edelstein Congregational United Church of Christ and also served as trustee of the board for many years.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2003, at Edelstein Congregational United Church of Christ, Edelstein. Rev. Richard Sather officiated. Visitation was held from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2003, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, and ½ hour prior to funeral services at the church. Burial was in Streitmatter Cemetery, rural Princeville.

Catherine M. “Katy” Linville, 76, of 600 E. Main, Apt. A., Toulon, formerly of Canton, Ill., died at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2003, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born March 7, 1927, in Peoria to William and Myrtle Jellerick Herold. She married John F. Linville on May 28, 1949, in Peoria. He died April 24, 2001. One daughter also preceded her in death, M. Virginia Royer; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers.
Surviving are two sons, John R. Linville of Peoria and Charles (Pam) Linville of Canton; five daughters, Betty (Don) Brooks of Peoria, Barbara (Dave) Kolditz of Toulon, Cathy Linville of Peoria, Suzie (Gene) Lunsford of New Lebanon, Ohio, and Mary (Dave) Fulton of Sandy, Tenn.; three sisters, Mary Swartz of Chillicothe, Barbara Grebner of Tiskilwa, and Betty Ricca of Streator; 26 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.
She had been the manager of Miracle Mart in Peoria for 10 years.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. David and its Women’s club.
A funeral mass was held at 11 am Monday at her church. The Rev. Robert O’Conner officiated. Visitation was from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, with recitation of the rosary at 2:30 p.m. Burial was in the White Chapel Memory Gardens.

Delores F. Geater, 74, of 119 Main, died 6:29 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
Born November 15, 1928, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Forrest and Opal Piersall, she married Ray French on July 15, 1950, in Davenport, Iowa. He died June 30, 1981. She then married Edward Geater in 1990. He died April of 1991.
Surviving are 2 sons, Thomas French of Edinburgh, Indiana, and Frank French of Mineral, Illinois; 3 daughters, Lorraine (and Art) Powell of Columbus, Indiana, Ella (and Robert) Toland of Wyoming., and Kathleen French of Mineral, Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and 1 sister, Dorothy Steele of Davenport, Iowa. Her parents, two sons, Aaron French and Frank Eugene French, one grandson, and one sister preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2003, at Wyoming. Funeral Home, Wyoming.. Rev. Delbert Howell will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2003, at Wyoming. Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Wyoming..

Richard C. Gehrig, 83, of Wyoming., Illinois, died Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at 7:15 a.m. at Proctor Hospital, Peoria.
He was born on August 13, 1919, in Lawn Ridge, Illinois, to Ernest Gehrig and Lena Huber. He married Evelyn L. Bernard on October 4, 1941, in Kahoka, Missouri. She passed away August 6, 2002.
Survivors include sons Ron (Sharon) Gehrig of Sparland, Illinois, and Rickey (Deborah) Gehrig of Huntley, Illinois, and daughter Marilyn (Art) Engelbrecht of Chillicothe, Illinois, 6 grandsons and 2 great-grandsons, and one sister, Helen Murphy of Phoenix, Arizona. He was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers.
Gehrig was a former board member of Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau, former board member of Grandview Service Company, and was a life long farmer.
Visitation was held from 11:30-1 p.m. and the funeral was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2003 at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Bradford.

Robert M. “Bob” Horsley, 80, of rural Toulon, died at 6:44 am on Monday, February 3, 2003 at his home.
Funeral services were held at 11 am on Thursday, February 6, 2003 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, with Rev. John Burns officiating. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at the funeral home. Burial was at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Mr. Horsley was born April 25, 1922, in Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of Robert and Jean (Lambie) Horsley. He came to the United States at an early age and lived many years with his aunt and uncle, Elmer & Ella Williams in rural Toulon. He married Lucille Zumber on August 21, 1948 in Kewanee, Ill.
She survives as well as four sons, Robert (Mary) Horsley of Galva, Ill.; Gary (Willa) Horsley of Toulon, Ill., Jim (Paula) Horsley of Galva, Ill. and Mark Horsley of Toulon, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Nicole, Noah, Chad, Colby, Heather, Molly, Carrie and Cassidy Horsley; a brother, Tom (Mary) Horsley of Bloomfield, Mich.; and a sister, Janet Ray of Champaign, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Holly; a brother, Elmer; and a sister, Iris.
Mr. Horsley graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1940. He had farmed in the Toulon area until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the American Angus Association and the Henry County Farm Bureau. He was a 4-H leader. He had raised and showed cattle for many years. He enjoyed fishing.
Elmer G. Williams, 69, of 416 S. Park, formerly of Wyoming., died at 12:24 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2003, at Toulon Health Care Center, Toulon. He was born March 23, 1933, in Castleton, Illinois, the son of William and Cora Mercer Williams. He married Jackie Kaiser March 6, 1954, in Galva, Illinois. She died May 1, 2002, in Kewanee, Ill.
Surviving are 3 sons, Ronald Williams of Kewanee, Ill., Russell (Marsha) Williams of Andover, Ill., and Chris (Nicole) Williams of Galva, Ill.; 5 daughters, Roxanne Abel and Renee (Michael) Richardson both of Kewanee, Ill., Roberta (Bob) Myers of Chillicothe, Ill., Rita Williams of Harlem, Montana, and Rachel (Gary) Lee of Castleton, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Joe Williams of Castleton, Ill.; and 2 sisters, Pearl Tracy and Ruth Schroeder both of Wyoming., Ill. His parents; one son, Randy Williams and one sister preceded him in death. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Mossville for 33 years as a line nspector, retiring in 1994 Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at Wyoming. Clark, 74, of rural Toulon, died 12:40 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2003, at Toulon Health Care Center, Toulon. born April 22, 1928, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of James E. and Velma Spalding Clark, he married Betty Gordon on February 12, 1949, in Kewanee, Illinois. She died July 29, 1997. Also preceding him in death is one brother. Surviving are 2 sons, James C. Clark and John R. Clark both of Toulon, Ill.; 1 daughter, Pamela Mudro of Lansing, Ill.; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren Pictured above are Harry and Carolyn Foglesong, who head up the Toulon portion of the countywide Fall Festival.rand-children; and 2 sisters, Louise Desmond of Racine, Wisconsin, and Marie Hallman of Peoria, Arizona. He was a farmer in the West Jersey area for many years, and he also owned and operated Snow & Sun Sports for several years. He was a committeeman with the Boy Scouts of America for many years also. He was a member of Mohammed Temple, Shrine; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; and the Toulon Masonic Lodge #93 AF&AM. He also was a member of West Jersey United Methodist Church, West Jersey.
Cremation was accorded and a memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2003, at DeBolt-Kidd Funeral Home, Toulon. Rev. Fred Reiner officiated. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. till the time the services at the funeral home.
Jane Fennell, 93, of 1053 2nd, died 4:05 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Rosewood Care Center, Peoria.
Born March 12, 1909, in Wyoming., Illinois, the daughter of Luther and Julia McAvoy Cox, she married Francis Fennell October 24, 1936, in Wyoming., Illinois. He died April 13, 1985, in Florida. Also preceding her in death was one sister and five brothers.
Surviving are many nieces and nephws.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Camp Grove, and it’s Altar & Rosary Society.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Camp Grove. Revs. Robert Rayson and Pat Fennell will officiate. Cecil W. Whittaker, 89, of Prestige Assisted Living at Smoketree, Lake Havasu City, AZ, formerly of Toulon, died Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at his residence in Arizona.
Born July 3, 1913, in Toulon,the son of Morrow and Nora Cox Whittaker, he married Virginia Slygh April 27, 1935, in Toulon. She died June 5, 1995, in Toulon.
Surviving are 2 sons, Jim (and Marge) Whittaker of Taylor, Texas, and Gary (and Carol) Whittaker of Toulon, Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
He farmed in the Toulon area for many years and was a member of the Flying Farmers during the 1950’s. He was a member of the Toulon Lions Club, Stark County Farm Bureau, and the American Milking-Shorthorn Association.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Toulon, where funeral services will be 2 pm Saturday, January 18, 2003. Rev. Wayne McLeod will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Toulon Cemetery, Toulon.

Anne Day, 82, of 201 N. Depot, Altona, Illinois, formerly of Toulon, died at 11:10 pm Monday, December 23, 2002, at Kewanee Hospital, Kewanee. She was born September 29, 1920, in Toulon, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Loretta Dickinson Williamson. She married Francis E. Day on December 26, 1938, in Wyoming., Ill. He died June of 1958.
Surviving are 1 son, Leland (Carol) Day of Altona, Ill.; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mary Lou (Bill) Slage of Pembroke Pines, Florida; and June (Frank) Mannix of Toulon, Ill. Her parents; one son, James Day; one brother, one sister and one grandson preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Wyoming., and it’s Altar & Rosary Society.

Kathryn M. Lloyd, 91, died at 9:25 pm Monday, December 23, 2002, at Toulon Health Care Center, Toulon, where she was a resident. She was born August 1, 1911, in Pekin, Illinois, the daughter of Isaac and Myrtle Linebaugh. She married Walker Lloyd in 1931 in Toulon. He died in 1989 in Peoria.
Surviving is 1 daughter, Suellen Johnston of Dunlap, Ill.; 1 granddaughter; 1 grandson; and 4 great-grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death.
She worked for many years as Vice President of Atkinson Trust & Savings, Atkinson, Ill., where she also served on the board. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Toulon.
Funeral services were held at 11 am Monday, December 30, 2002, at DeBolt-Kidd Funeral Home, Toulon. Rev. Wayne McLeod officiated. Visitation was held one hour prior to funeral services. Burial was in Toulon Cemetery, Toulon.

Dorothy C. Eiermann Bersche, 92, formerly of Peoria, died at 8:35 am Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at Snyder Village in Metamora. She was born January 2, 1910, in Toulon to George M. and Lucy Parrish Wallace, she married Henry Eiermann on June 1, 1930, in Peoria. He died July 1, 1968. She later married Fridolin Bersche in 1972 in Peoria. He died in 1985.
She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Surviving are one son, George (Diane) Eiermann of Germantown Hills; two daughters, Suzanne Burrows of Florida and Janet (Richard) Quine of New Hampshire; two stepsons, Lynn (Virginia) Bersche of Waterloo and Gerald (Karen) Bersche of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was a bookkeeper at Monarch Engineering in East Peoria for 18 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Amateur Music Club in Peoria and the Philharmonic Chorale in Peoria.
She was a member of Willow Hill United Methodist Church in Germantown Hills, where a memorial service was held at 11 am Saturday, January 4, 2003. The Rev. Ken Hogren officiated.Cremation was accorded, and burial of ashes will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Mason Funeral Home, Metamora.

Lawrence W. “Larry” Shaw, 84, of rural Princeville, died at 5:30 pm Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. He was born October 6, 1918, in Stark County, Illinois, the son of Rueben and Ruth Graves Shaw. He married Florence A. Slane April 2, 1950, at the home of her parents in Jubilee Township, which is now their home. She survives.
Also surviving are 3 daughters, Rhonda Jones of Dunlap, Ill., Christine (Larry) Ciacio of Golden, Colorado; and Linda (Steve) Sorenson of Denver, Colorado; 2 sons, Larry (Maj-Britt) Shaw of Coralville, Iowa; and William (Elizabeth) Shaw of Princeville, Ill.; 8 grandchildren; 1 sister, Marjorie McDonough of Brimfield, Ill.; and 3 brothers, Kenneth (Dorothy) Shaw of Morrison, Ill.; Elmer (Patricia) Shaw of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Lyle Shaw of Orlando, Florida. His parents and one brother, Raymond Shaw, preceded him in death.

Sebastian “Sub” Yerly, 78, of Wyoming., died at 8:40 am Wednesday, December 25, 2002, at his residence. born September 6, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Sebastian and Rose Braida Yerly. He married Ernestine Mersek June 12, 1945, in Spring Valley, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons, John Sebastian (Dolores) Yerly of Steward, Ill.; and Alan “Bud” (Anita) Yerly of Valrico, Florida; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 11 sisters, Elain (George) Michaletti, Pauldene (Stan) Reynolds, and Donna (Pat) Lyons all of Spring Valley, Ill.; Rose (Ozzie) Schweickert and Jeanette (Rich) Rivara both of Ladd, Ill.; Darlene (Andy) Scheri of Standard, Ill.; Lucille (Ed) Carell of Montgomery, Ill.; Lorraine Swords of Oglesby, Ill.; Norma Jean Moss of Utica, Ill.; Anna Marie Brown of Hennepin, Ill.; and Lillian (Jim) Giordano of Peru, Ill.; 4 brothers, Norman Yerly and Paul LeRoy both of Spring Valley, Ill.; John G. He worked for Meows Seed Company for 29 years and since 1974 he owned and operated Yerly Greenhouse in Wyoming.. He was a member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Wyoming.

Grace C. Skelley, 87, of Alexis, formerly from Toulon, died at 9 am Monday, December 30, 2002, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg. She was born July 20, 1915, in Alexis to John H. and Mary E. Murphy Skelley.
Surviving is one sister, Sister Dympna Skelley of Portsmouth, Ohio, a sister with the Third Order of Saint Francis in Rochester, Minnesota.. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Knox College in 1937 and with a master’s degree in Spanish from Case Western University in Cleveland.
She taught Spanish at Toulon High School for many years.
She also taught at Corpus Christi High School and Carl Sandburg College, both in Galesburg, Illinois.
She was a lifetime member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Alexis, where she had been the organist since childhood.
A funeral mass was held at 11 am Thursday at her church. The Revs. Robert Lee, Ron Enderlin, and Michael Menner officiated. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 pm at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, with recitation of rosary and a prayer service at 5:30 pm.
