Timothy O'Slynne, 40, lecturer of dance at Northwestern University's School of Speech and artistic director for the acclaimed Chicago performance group XSIGHT!, died Oct. 10 [1994]of complications from AIDS.
O'Slynne, who joined the Northwestern faculty in 1987, was an acclaimed performer and choreographer whose work has also been performed in Europe, Australia and Russia.
He received numerous grants and awards, including fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Illinois Arts Council as well as the Chicago Dance Arts Coalition's Ruth Page Award for Outstanding Choreography for his direction of XSIGHT!
O'Slynne's choreography credits include: "'Tis a Pity She's a Whore" for The Public Theatre as part of the New York Shakespeare Festival in 1992 and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? - The Dance" with XSIGHT! which was presented in 1992 by Northwestern University, Duke University and the National Performance Network.
In addition, he was resident choreographer and dancer for the Chicago Repertory Dance Ensemble from 1987-1990, and a dancer with Erick Hawkins Dance Company in New York from 1983-1985.
O'Slynne attended the University of North Texas and received a bachelor's degree in choreography with honors from Columbia College of Chicago.
He is survived by his mother, Lottie and his sister, Carol.
