Edward M. Osetek, DDS, of Chicago, professor emeritus of endodontics, died
Sept. 16 [1996] at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
A funeral mass was said Sept. 20 at Holy Family/St. Francis of Assisi, Chicago.
Dr. Osetek, 63, retired in August 1995 after 16 years as a member of the Dental School Faculty. He served as director of the Advanced Education/Graduate Program in Endodontics for 15 years, chairman of the endodontics department, associate dean for clinical affairs and director of the division of endodontics. He was a Life Member of the American Association of Endodontists and served the group as an officer, including a term as president (1980-81). He received the Edgar D. Coolidge Award in 1992 from the AAE in recognition of his leadership.
Dr. Osetek was a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, serving as a board member, secretary-treasurer and president (1990-91).
Dr. Osetek joined the Dental School in 1979 after retiring from the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy for 20 years, teaching at the Naval Dental School in Bethesda, Md., and serving aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge and the U.S.S. Holland and at many land stations, including Great Lakes.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; two daughters, Diane Goryl of Milwaukee and Ellen Garcia of Chicago; two sons, William Osetek of Chicago and Robert Osetek of Milwaukee; and four grandchildren.
