A memorial service will be held for James R. Hines, M.D., former chief of general surgery and vice-chairman of the department of surgery at the Medical School and Northwestern Memorial Hospital, from 4 to 5 p.m. today (Monday) at Turnbull Auditorium, 303 E. Chicago Ave.
Dr. Hines, who died
Nov. 8 [1997], began his association with the Medical School and the hospital in 1957.
During his tenure he served in a number of capacities, including director of the Graduate Training Program, chairman of the division of surgery, University Medical School Faculty Senate, chief of general surgery, vice-chairman for the department of surgery, and consultant in surgery.
Dr. Hines, who received his masteršs degree in surgery from Northwestern in 1951, served as a captain in the Marine Corps as chief of surgery, 121st Evacuation Hospital, during the Korean War. He received the Bronze Star for his service.
