William Steven Seibert
William Steven (Bill) Seibert, age 85, of rural DuQuoin, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2002 in Carbondale Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Seibert was a retired maintenance worker/caretaker at Sacred Heart Church and School. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He was born November 12, 1916 at DuQuoin, the son of Andrew Seibert and Mary Stein. He was a veteran of W.W. II.

Surviving are two nieces, Margaret Hollis Handy of DuQuoin and Loreta Seibert of Carbondale and three nephews, James A. Seibert of Carbondale, Ralph Seibert of El Paso, Tex. and Harold Seibert of Alton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, January 23 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart cemetery at DuQuoin.

Friends called after 6 p.m. Tuesday at Maxton Funeral Chapel in DuQuoin. The Rosary was said at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Maxton Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart School.

John Meacham
John Meacham, 80, of DuQuoin, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. in his home.

Mr. Meacham had been a carpenter and a general contractor and had worked in mine construction. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa and Europe. He was a member of DuQuoin VFW Post 513 and DuQuoin American Legion Post 647. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was active in the Franklin Co. Beagle Club, the DuQuoin Bass Club and the National and Illinois State Rifle Associations.

He was born March 22, 1921 in Lincoln, Ill., the son of Herman and Mary (Ryan) Meacham. He married pauline Juhl on June 30, 1946 at New Holland, Ill.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline Meacham of DuQuoin; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Bonnie Meacham of Chester and Bill and Nadine Meacham of Edwardsville; three daughters and one son-in-law, Donna Meacham of Springfield, Joe Ellyn and Robert Grove of Fairbanks, Alaska and Sandra Meacham of DuQuoin; one sister, Mary Hurley of Lincoln and four grandchildren, Matt of Chester, Ann and Mike of Edwardsville and Casey of Fairbanks, Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 2 at 1:30 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Darwin Schrader and David Juhl officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin.

Friends called Friday, March 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m.until time of service.

Graveside military rites were conducted by the DuQuoin VFW and American Legion.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Perry County or the National Rifle Association.

Laura L. Pfleger
Laura L. 'Hirsch' Pfleger, 54, of DuQuoin, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2002 at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Laura was a homemaker and had been a baby-sitter for many years. She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in DuQuoin. She was a member of the DuQuoin Legion Auxiliary and a former member of the DuQuoin VFW Auxiliary.

She was born May 4, 1947 at DuQuoin, the daughter of William and Sophia (Seligmiller) Hirsch. She married James A. Pfleger on October 6, 1978 at Sept Iles, Quebec, Canada and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of DuQuoin; a daughter, Lynette Ragland of DuQuoin; step-daughter, Lorene Hurt of DuQuoin; step-son, Brian Pfleger of Atlanta, Ga.; grandson, Kalin Bridges of DuQuoin and sister, Jean Luthy of DuQuoin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lola Mae Stoffel and Ima June Hirsch.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 12 at the St. John's United Church of Christ in DuQuoin with Rev. Kevin Weaver officiating.

Friends called from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Interment was in the IOOF cemetery.

Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Rosalie Palmer
Rosalie Palmer, 67, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:08 P.M., Saturday, February 23, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Rosalie was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was born May 27, 1934 at Du Quoin, IL the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Richardson) George.

She married Raymond Palmer on June 19, 1949 at Morganfield, KY and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, three children- Patricia "Patty" Johnson of Du Quoin, Charles Palmer of Du Quoin, Cindy Palmer of Du Quoin, three brothers- Dwight George of Arizona, Gerald "Butch" George of Du Quoin, Tom George of Du Quoin, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers- Bud George, Robert George, Donald George, Charles George and Bill George and one sister in infancy.

Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Southern Illinois Kidney Memorial Trust Fund.

Clara M. Wesseln
Clara M. Wesseln, age 85, of Pinckneyville, passed away Tuesday evening, February 19, 2002 at the Skilled Care Unit of Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Clara was born June 1, 1916 in Pinckneyville, the daughter of Frank and Ida (Feik) Wesseln. Clara retired from the Pinckneyville Garment Factory after working there for many years. Clara was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville and a former member of the Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of the ILGWU and a member of the Stitch and Chatter Quilting Club.

Clara is survived by five brothers and sisters: Irene Loos, Agnes Miller and John Wesseln and wife Dorothy, all of Pinckneyville, Ida E. Wesseln of Visalia, Calif. and James Wesseln and wife Barbara of Crest Hill, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers and sisters: Florence Wesseln, Robert Wesseln, Mildred McDonald, Marie Mann and an infant sister, Edna Wesseln.

Funeral mass was planned for Saturday, February 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville with Father John Venegoni officiating. Interment was in the St. Bruno Catholic cemetery in Pinckneyville.

Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 8 until 9:30 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the St. Bruno Catholic Church and School Fund or the Alzheimer's Association.

The Rosary was said at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home.

Raymond Adam Mohr
Raymond Adam Mohr, age 84, of Denmark (rural Cutler), passed away Saturday morning, February 9, 2002 at the Skilled Care Unit of the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Raymond was born at home, the youngest son of William and Mary (Weitzel) Mohr on September 13, 1917 in Denmark. Raymond was united in marriage to Lora L. Schatte August 21, 1939 and she preceded him in death November 16, 1998. Raymond had been a farmer, factory worker, custodian at Trico High School and worked at the Chester Mental Health Facility until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville and a member of the Perry County Farm Bureau and AFSCME Union. He was also a long-time director of the Cottom cemetery Association, which meant a great deal to him.

Raymond is survived by three daughters, Mary Jo Martin and husband John, Helen Rae Timpner and husband Ralph, both of Pinckneyville and Brenda Hosto and husband Mark of Alhambra; seven grandchildren, Allen Martin and wife Sandy of Hoyleton, Lisa (Martin) Trail and husband Mark of Pinckneyville, Cheryl (Timpner) Barker and husband Richard of Travis Air Force Base, California, Rhonda (Timpner) Teaney and husband Ron of East Peoria, Karen Timpner of Marion, Andrea and Robert Hosto of Alhambra; five great-grandchildren, Becky and Kacie Trail, Jacob and Jamilyn Martin and Quinton Barker; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Mohr and Irene Schatte and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Lawrence Mohr and infant Rudolph Mohr; two sisters, Minnie Egbert and Hilda Mitchell and one grandson in infancy.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 12 at the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville at 11 a.m. with Reverend James Bush officiating. Interment was in the Cottom cemetery of Denmark.

Friends called Monday evening at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville from 5 to 9 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning from 8 until 9:30 a.m. and then at the church from 10 a.m. until services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cottom cemetery Association in Denmark, Ill.

Ralph J. Dalman
Ralph J. Dalman, 61, of Nashville, Ill. departed this life at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2001 at his residence after a sudden illness.

Ralph was born on June 1, 1940 in Washington County, the son of John and Josephine (Rybacki) Dalman.

He worked as an auto body man at Kirchoeffer Chevrolet in Nashville. He then went to work for Ollie's Body Shop in Nashville for over 30 years. For the last year and a half, he had worked at Warren Auto Body in Nashville. Ralph loved gardening and provided produce for family and friends. He was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include a son, Kevin Dalman and wife Katie of Killion, Tex.; two grandsons, Cameron and Justin; his mother, Josephine Dalman of Du Bois; six brothers and sisters, Casimir Dalman of Du Bois, Christine Ritter of Du Quoin, Michael Dalman and wife Susie of Tamaroa, JoAnn Holzhauer and husband Raymond of Nashville, LaVerne Restoff and husband Gene of Scheller, and Sharon Frederking and husband Jon of Nashville; and several other nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, wife Joan, and a brother-in-law, Carl "Corky" Ritter.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville with Fr. Paul Wienhoff officiating. Interment was in the St. Charles cemetery in Du Bois.

Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30 to 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville. The rosary was recited at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the St. Ann Catholic Church Renovation Fund or to the American Heart Association.

Carrie L. Yates
Carrie L. Yates, 98, of DuQuoin, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2001 at 7:10 a.m. at her home.

Mrs. Yates was an Elementary School teacher and a member of First Baptist Church in DuQuoin. She was also a member of Perry County Retired Teachers Association and the Gold Plate.

She was born December 27, 1902 in Jackson County, the daughter of Henry W. and Carrie Eva (Hurst) Jatho. She married John L. Yates on June 20, 1925 at DuQuoin and he preceded her in death on January 24, 1967.

Surviving are two daughters, Jackie Yates of DuQuoin and Patricia Russell of Sylvania, Ohio; one granddaughter, Carrie Lou Jones and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two grandsons, Scott and Mark Russell.

Funeral services were Saturday, December 29 at 1 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Frank Voorhees officiating. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery at DuQuoin.

Friends called Friday at Neal-McClure Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 7:30 a.m. to time of service on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in DuQuoin.

Margaret Lee Rogers
Margaret Lee Rogers, 77, of DuQuoin, passed away Friday, March 8, 2002 at 12:15 a.m. in St. Louis University Hospital.

Mrs. Rogers was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She was born November 9, 1924 at DeSoto, the daughter of Orville Ambrose and Hazel Dell (Bolby) Bradley. She married Ernest Z. Rogers on April 17, 1954 at DuQuoin.

Surviving are her husband, Ernest; sons, Bradley of Vergennes and Forrest and his wife Sheri of DuQuoin; brother, Eugene Bradley of Carterville; sister, Mildred Reeder of Cambria and grandchildren, Charity, Ethan, Dustin, Christian and Alexander.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Larry Dean.

Funeral services were Monday, March 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Carl Mesiti officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Sunday, March 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 7:30 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

Elmer J. Burgess
Elmer J. Burgess Sr., 62, of Bowling Green, Ky. and Tamaroa, passed away at 2:19 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002 at the Medical Center at Bowling Green, Ky.

Elmer was a fork lift operator for General Motors Corp. at Bowling Green. He was a member of the Tamaroa Christian Church and the U.A.W. Local Union 2164.

He was born March 5, 1939 at Mayfield, Ky., the son of Elmer Ardie and Geneva (Russell) Burgess. He married Wanda Weisel on September 19, 1959 at the Tamaroa Christian Church and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Bowling Green, Ky.; six sons, Elmer Burgess Jr. of Tamaroa, Eugene Burgess of DuQuoin, Elliott Burgess of Tamaroa, Edward Burgess of Tamaroa, Eric Burgess of Tamaroa and Edmund Burgess of Tamaroa; one daughter, Flora Geneva Burgess of Bowling Green, Ky.; three brothers, Harold Burgess of Fancy Farm, Ky., Richard Burgess of O'Fallon and Eugene Burgess of O'Fallon; two sisters, Vera Ann Mitchell of Belleville and Dorothy Williams of Murray, Ky.; 20 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, March 8 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Bro. Arven Kirkpatrick officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.

Interment was in the Antioch cemetery at Tamaroa.

Mercie H. Thornton
Mercie H. Thornton, 90, of Elkville, passed away at 5:55 P.M., Saturday, March 16, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Mercie was a homemaker and had worked at the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin as an aide for many years. She was a member of the Elkville Baptist Church and had been a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She was born July 29, 1911 at Hallidayboro the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Hurley) Bourland.

She married Kenneth H. Thornton on November 21, 1929 at Murphysboro and he passed away July 5, 1970.

She is survived by two sons- Jerry Thornton and wife Gracie of Mishawaka, IN, Tom Thornton and wife Glenna of Elkville, four grandchildren- Kim Thornton, Christopher Thornton, Gina Brown and husband Matt, Gaye Thornton, two great grandchildren- Matthew and Lindsay Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, four brothers.

Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at the Elkville Baptist Church with Rev. Daryl Williams officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 1 P.M. until time of service at the church on Tuesday.

Interment was in the Elkville cemetery.

Friends may make memorials to the Elkville Baptist Church.
