James Kip Cutler
James Kip Cutler, 48, of Ottawa, formerly of Tamaroa, passed away February 8, 2002 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet.
Kip worked for the State of Illinois as Chief of Security at the Joliet Penitentiary for the Illinois Department of Corrections. He had also worked at Robinson, Ill. and Pinckneyville, Ill correction centers. He was a Tamaroa High School graduate. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Kip was a member of the Tamaroa Masonic Lodge #207 and past master. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Masonic Bodies, Valley of Southern Illinois at Belleville and the Ainad Shrine of East St. Louis.
He was born December 21, 1953 at Kankakee, the son of James and Bonnie (Morrow) Cutler. He married
Sharon Vargo on October 1, 2001 at Pinckneyville and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Ottawa; father, James Cutler of Appleton, Wis.; daughter, Leah Bartlow and husband Gary of Royalton; brother, Brian Cutler of DuBois; grandchildren, Jonathon Tramell, Joshua and Jamison Bartlow, all of Royalton.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Masonic funeral services were at 7:30 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Master Larry Pruett officiating.
Friends called from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Cremation services followed.

Clara H. Ratajczyk
Clara H. Ratajczyk, 85, of Tamaroa, passed away at 12:45 P.M., Thursday, February 14, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Clara was a homemaker and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tamaroa.
She was born October 28, 1916 at Scheller, IL the daughter of William and Mary Ann (Kabat) Restoff.
She married
Carl C. Ratajczyk on June 19, 1934 at Du Bois, IL and he passed away March 5, 1996.
She is survived by a daughter- Caroline Kuberski and husband Paul Sr. of Tamaroa, three grandchildren- Paul Kuberski Jr. & wife Chris of Tamaroa, Diane Valentine and husband Ron of Tamaroa, Sharon Spotanski and husband David of Troy, sister- Theresa Milloshewski of Scheller, brother- Walter Restoff and wife Josephine of Scheller, five great grandsons and three great granddaughters, two sisters-in-law- Augustyna Restoff of Scheller and Regina Restoff of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Carl Jr., two brothers.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 18, 2002 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tamaroa with Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa, the Rosary was prayed at 7:30 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
Interment was in the St. Barbara cemetery at Scheller.

Patricia A. Followell
Patricia A. Followell, 42, of Mulkeytown, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at 10:15 a.m. in her home.
Mrs. Followell was an agent at Jim Simpson INS in Carbondale and a member of Community Faith in Carterville.
She was born March 17, 1959 in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of LeRoy and Dorothy (Weiss) Mezo. She married
Charlie Followell on July 20, 1979 and he survives.
Surviving are two daughters, Angela Followell and Nickole Followell, both of Mulkeytown; brothers and sisters, James Mezo of Belleville, LeRoy Mezo, Johnnie Mezo and Mona Mezo, all of DuQuoin, Laura Earnhart of Mulkeytown and Lorraine Baumann, Thomas Happold, Daniel Happold and Stanley Happold, all of DuQuoin.
Funeral services were Friday, February 22 at 11 a.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Rev. Jerry Aken officiating. Interment was in Mulkeytown cemetery.
Friends called after 6 p.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher.
Marie Greer
Marie Greer, 92, of Ashley, departed this life on Monday, February 18, 2002 at 10 p.m. in the Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle.
Marie was born at DuBois on September 18, 1909, the daughter of Roscoe and Goldie (Sconce) Qualls. She was united in marriage to J. Spencer Greer on November 27, 1927 at Nashville and he preceded her in death on August 13, 1975.
Mrs. Greer owned and operated several different cafes in Ashley and in later years was a homemaker.
Left to mourn her passing are a son, Wayne Greer and wife Margarie of Yuma, Ariz. and a daughter, Norma Pryor of Ashley; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Spencer, two brothers and three sisters.
The funeral service were held on Friday, February 22 at 2 p.m. at the campagna Funeral Home in Ashley with Rev. Mary Lou Caswell officiating. Interment followed in the Ashley cemetery.
Friends called at the Campagna Funeral Home in Ashley from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. until the hour of service on Friday.

Vickie Sue Rider
Vickie Sue (Tate) Rider, 54, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:40 A.M., Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at her residence.
Vickie was a homemaker.
She was born March 5, 1947 at Sesser the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Eubanks) Tate.
She married
Richard Rider on December 5, 1980 at Green River, Wyoming, and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, children- Robin James of Cambria, Renee Nelson and husband Brett of Sikeston, MO, Chad James and wife Cindy of Herrin, Rachel Diggins and husband Charles of Du Quoin, Marti Rider of Los Angeles, CA, brother- Robert Tate of Dix, sisters- Sherry Baker of Du Quoin, Gaye Piercy of Dix, her mother, six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 15, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Kurt E. Harris officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Ruby Lee Kellerman
Ruby Lee Kellerman, age 76, of Pinckneyville, died in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Skilled Care Unit on Sunday, February 17, 2002 at 1:40 a.m.
Ruby was born in Pinckneyville on December 27, 1925, the daughter of William Eugene and Clara Bernice (Dry) Smith. She married
John Kellerman on September 6, 1952 and he survives.
Ruby was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court 1385, Perry County Historical Society, VFW Auxiliary #3959 and A.A.R.P.
Survivors include her husband, John of Pinckneyville; one son, Charles V. Kellerman, wife Kim and children, Jonathan V. and Hannah of Pinckneyville; two brothers, Robert D. Smith of Pinckneyville and Loren E. Smith of Anna and a sister, Mildred McDaniel of Summerville, S.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Joseph Jr.; a sister, Doris Chapman and a brother, Charles O. Smith.
Funeral services were held at the St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville on Wednesday, February 20 at 10 a.m. with Father James Van Oss officiating. Interment was in the St. Mary Magdalen cemetery in Todds Mill.
Visitation was held at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Tuesday, February 19 from 6 until 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 until 9:30 a.m. The Rosary was said at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
The family requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the St. Bruno School Endowment Fund.
Annamae Todd
Annamae Todd, age 87, of Hannibal, Mo., formerly of Pinckneyville, died Friday, February 8, 2002 at 9:57 p.m. in the Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Palmyra, Mo.
Annamae was born in Oakdale on February 10, 1914, the daughter of Herman and Mary Maben (Craig) Todd.
Annamae graduated from SIU-C with a B.A., then completed her M.A. degree in 1956. She began her teaching career in a one-room country school before coming to Pinckneyville Junior High School in 1940, where she taught language arts and P.E. She served as Assistant County Superintendent of Schools under Phillip Provart from 1953 to 1975, when she retired.
She was a member of several honorary educational societies. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi while at SIU, a charter member of Beta Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, joining in 1956, finally serving as a reserve member, a member of the Illinois Education Association, a former member of the Pinckneyville Woman's Club and Pinckneyville Business and Professional Women.
Annamae was a member of the Pinckneyville First Presbyterian Church where she served as a church treasurer and as an elder.
Survivors include two nephews: Dr. Richard R. Todd of Hannibal, Mo. and Donald Todd of Lincoln; a niece: Jean Todd Hill of Red Bud; two great nephews: Rev. Chuck Todd and Todd Hill; three great-nieces: Elizabeth Cunningham, Lauri Biethman and Natasha Todd; two great-great-nephews and three great-great-nieces.
Friends called at the First Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, on Thursday, February 14, 2002 from 9 a.m. until services.
Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Reverends Dick Todd, Chuck Todd and Tom Hobson officiating. Interment was in the Bethel cemetery, Swanwick, Ill.
Memorials may be made to the church or the Alzheimer's Association.
Kenneth Carl Valentine
Kenneth Carl Valentine, 71, of Tamaroa, passed away at 7:25 A.M., Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Kenny was a retired trucker for Taylor Brothers Welding Service in Tamaroa. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tamaroa. He was former Mayor of Tamaroa. He had been a Tamaroa fireman for 42 years. He also served as a member of the Tamaroa Grade School and High School boards. He was a member of the Southern Illinois Coalbelt Firefighters Association. He was a member of the Tamaroa American Legion. He was a lifetime member of the United Steelworkers of America. He had been a Khoury league baseball coach for many years. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
He was born June 7, 1930 at Pinckneyville, Illinois, the son of Karl and Rose (Bathon) Valentine.
He married
Lucille M. Nehrkorn on November 6, 1952 at Cairo, Illinois and she survives.

Interment was at the Tamaroa cemetery.

John Quincy Corso
John Quincy Corso, 78, of DuQuoin, passed away at 6:00 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.
John was a retired coal miner last working at Old Ben 26 mine. He was a faithful member of the Old DuQuoin Baptist Church. He was a member of the UMWA. He was a devoted Cub fan. John was a U.S. Navy veteran in WW II, serving from 1941 to 1945.
He was born September 6, 1923 at Mulkeytown, the son of Angelo and Maria (Furlin) Corso. He married
Ruby Lampley on may 11, 1957 at Cairo and she preceded him in death on May 14, 1995. He then married
Bettie Russell on December 13, 1996 at the Second Baptist Church in DuQuoin and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers- Frank and Ernest Corso; step-son, Robert Saunders and late wife, Ruby E. Corso.
John was loved, admired, respected by his wife, children, family and friends. He will live in our hearts forever.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24 at the Old DuQuoin Baptist Church with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin and from 1 p.m. until time of services at the church on Sunday.
Interment was in the Old DuQuoin cemetery at DuQuoin.

Edward Charles Timpner
Edward Charles Timpner, age 89, of rural Pinckneyville, died Sunday, February 17, 2002 at 8:28 a.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Skilled Care Unit.
Ed was born in Pinckneyville on August 9, 1912, the son of Edward and Magdalena Elizabeth (Bahre) Timpner. He married
Margaret C. Schickedanz on April 9, 1938 in DuQuoin and she preceded him in death on January 7, 1991.
During his lifetime he attended Kimzey Grade School, was a graduate of Pinckneyville Community High School, graduated in 1934 from Southern Illinois Normal University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and attended Brown Business School. He worked with the Hoyelton Children's Home, worked for LaRowe Ford Garage as a partsman from 1938 - 1940, worked for Schulze-Malone Lumber Company as a bookkeeper from 1940 - 1943, was a partner in the Timpner-Feltmeyer Roofing Company from 1942 - 1943 and was a self-employed farmer from 1943 until retirement. He served as Director for the Egyptian Electric Cooperative for many years, where he was also Vice-President during 1961 - 62 and 1980, and President from 1962 - 66, Past Director of the Association of Illinois electric Cooperative, having served as Secretary/Treasurer from 1969 - 76 and served as Secretary from 1955 until his retirement. He was the Perry County Noxious Weed Commissioner from 1965 until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ where he taught and served as Superintendent of their Sunday School and was a member of their Consistory. He was Past Director of the Perry County H.I.A., an agent for Randolph Mutual Insurance and an agent for Grennell Mutual Re-Insurance Company since 1973. He was a member of the Perry County Farm Bureau since its inception and a member of the Perry County Historical Society.
Survivors include two sons: Gary Lee Timpner and his wife Irma and Ralph Edward Timpner and his wife Helen Rae, all of Pinckneyville; two daughters, Marcella Rae Sharp and husband Jim of Brookfield, Conn. and Susan Marie Wassung and husband David of Papillion, Neb.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a sister, Mary C. Greer and a brother, William B. Timpner.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 21 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville, with Pastor Karen Stahr Terada officiating. Interment was in Galum Presbyterian cemetery, rural Pinckneyville.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Wednesday February 20 from 5 until 9 p.m. and on Thursday morning from 8 until 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
William 'Norman' Fenton
William 'Norman' Fenton, 94, of Carterville, formerly of Elkville, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Dennis Fager officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.
Interment was in the Elkville cemetery.
