Dolimah Ruth Eubanks
Dolimah Ruth Eubanks, 82, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:29 P.M., Saturday, February 16, 2002 at the Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC.
Dolimah had worked as a record tester at MCA Record Mfg. and as a dispatcher for the Illinois State Police.
She was a Baptist. She was a member of the Eastern Star and VFW Auxiliary.
She was born March 7, 1919 at Du Quoin the daughter of Earnest and Maude Alice (Vancil) McMurray.
She married
Orval Carrol Eubanks on February 2, 1946 at Du Quoin, he passed away February 24, 1987.
She is survived by a daughter- Mary I. Graziano and husband Dave of Durham, NC, two grandchildren, three step grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters- Lora V. Devor, Dorothy D. Johnson, Mary Ilene Neudecker.
Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Lloyd J. Heard
Lloyd J. 'Buck' Heard, age 83, of Pinckneyville, passed away Friday morning, February 1, 2002 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Lloyd was born in Pinckneyville on August 22, 1918, the son of Royden Keith and Charlotte I. (Conrad) Heard. He married
Evelyn Powers on February 22, 1942 at the First Baptist Church, Cape Girardeau, Mo. and she survives.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, was a coal miner for 45 years, a member of the United Mine Workers of America, a member of the Steeleville American Legion, played on the 'Blue Streaks' Pinckneyville High School Basketball Team which went to state in 1935 and was a member of First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville.
Survivors include his wife: Evelyn of Pinckneyville, sons: James L. heard of Shelbyville, Tenn., Fred Heard of DuQuoin, David Heard and a special friend, Debbie of Coulterville, daughters: Ruth Hawkins and her husband, Jerry, of DuQuoin, Kathy Stroehlein and her husband, John, of Pinckneyville, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one cousin: Charlotte Kinney of Belleville, along with many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Janet and one brother: Royden.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 4 at 11 a.m. in the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, with Rev. James Bush officiating. Interment was in Mueller Hill cemetery, Pinckneyville.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. and on Monday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Perry County.
Beulah G. Robinson
Beulah G. Robinson, 84, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:25 P.M., Sunday, February 17, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Beulah was a retired packer at the Du Quoin Packing Co., She was a Baptist.
She was born September 9, 1917 at Du Quoin, IL the daughter of Robert Earl and Lillian M. (Coulter) Stanley.
She married
William Rollie Robinson on October 24, 1942 at Perryville, MO and he passed away March 4, 1967.
She is survived by a daughter- Vickie Fisher and husband Delbert of Du Quoin, brother- Lyle Stanley and wife Gladys of Tamaroa, three sisters- Geneva Parker of Du Quoin, Inez Beard of Gulf Breeze, FL, Dottie Bench and husband M.J. of Pleasant Grove, UT, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister- Ruth Doerr.
Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 21, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. M. Shaw DeMent officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Alzheimers Association.
Gloria J. Simmons
Gloria J. Simmons, 60, formerly of Springfield, died Friday, February 22, 2002 in San Diego, California.
Ms. Simmons was employed by St. Johns Hospital in Springfield for 23 years.
She was born August 15, 1941 in Herrin, Ill., the daughter of William E. and Ruby L. Simmons.
She is survived by her parents, William and Ruby Simmons of DuQuoin; a brother, Gary Simmons of DuQuoin; two daughters, Diane Zara of Sherman and Amy Swoboda of Springfield; a son, Jeff Zara of San Diego, California; four grandchildren; a sister in law; two nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Simmons of Dumfries, Virginia.
Funeral arrangements were pending.
Cecelia Gertrude Graeff
Cecelia Gertrude Graeff, 88, of Johnston City, passed away at 8:15 P.M., Saturday, March 16, 2002 at the Marion Memorial Hospital.
Cecelia had worked at Carbondale Glove Co. and had been a pharmacy store clerk. She was of the Lutheran faith.
She was born July 24, 1913 at Jackson County, IL the daughter of Samuel E. and Lillie A. (Fegley) Graeff.
She is survived by three sisters- Myrtle Swain and Golda Graeff both of Johnston City, Lillian Graeff of Benton, niece- Beverly Mandrell of Benton, nephew- Clarence Graeff of Elkville.
Graveside service were at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at the De Soto cemetery with Rev. Franklyn Schroeder officiating.
Interment was in the De Soto cemetery.
The Searby Funeral Home of Du Quoin was in charge of arrangements.
Those attending the services were asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Rev. Hiley D. Brock
Rev. Hiley D. Brock, 88, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:35 A.M., Monday, April 29, 2002 at the Sullivan Health Care Center in Sullivan, IL
Hiley and wife Chloe operated the Du Quoin Brocks Walgreen Agency Drug Store from 1940 to 1966. The Brocks formed a business partnership of the drug store with Lon and Gloria McPherson in March 1966.
After retiring from the drug store business, Hiley became an ordained minister and graduated from Boyce Bible School of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky in December 1991. He did pulpit supply in several area churches, pastored at Richview Baptist Church and White Oak Baptist Chruch.
Hiley was a member and Past President of the Du Quoin Rotary Club, was a life member of the Du Quoin Hope Lodge and a former member of the Du Quoin Business Association. Hiley will also be remembered by many for his musical talents. He sang for numerous funeral, weddings, special events and church revivals. He was active in the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin and the Second Baptist Church of Du Quoin.
He was born October 20, 1913 at Du Quoin, IL the son of Merimon and Bertha E. (Fiss) Brock.
He married
Chole Jones on November 24, 1939 at Christopher, IL, she passed away September 8, 1968 he then married
Laura E. Thornsberry Morefield on July 4, 1971 at Du Quoin, IL, she passed away September 13, 1999.
He is survived by children- Mary Ellen Rutledge and husband Mike of Arthur, IL, David Allen Brock and wife Barbara of Arthur, IL, Carroll Bruce Brock and wife Pamela of Defiance, MO, Dennis Morefield and wife Jane of Agoura Hills, CA, Robert R. Morefield and wife Betty of Murphysboro, IL, eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step father- William Scronce, both wives, four brothers- Clyde, Robert, Marion and Dean.
Funeral services were at 1:00 P.M., Friday, May 3, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson, Rev. Steve Bareis and Rev. Lon McPherson officiating.
Friends called from 9 to 11 A.M., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from Noon to 1 P.M. Friday at the church.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Rhonda L. Bombardo
Rhonda L. Bombardo, 37, of Dowell, passed away at 7:45 A.M., Monday, June 24, 2002 at ther residence.
Rhonda was a Postal Clerk at the Du Quoin Post Office. She was a former manager at the Du Quoin Pizza Hut for fourteen years. She was a member of the Dowell Baptist Church and the Postal Workers Union.
She was born May 27, 1965 at Du Quoin the daughter of Ralph and Louise (Martie) Ross.
She married
Aldo Bombardo Jr. on July 4, 1997 at Dowell and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Dowell, three daughters- Megan Holford and Gina Bombardo both Dowell, Kayla Bombardo of North Carolina, son- Antonio Bombardo of Dowell, parents- Ralph and Louise Ross of Dowell, sister- Judy Compton and husband Troy of Dowell, brother- Ralph Ross and wife Melody of Elkville, two sisters-in-law- Amber Bombardo of Du Quoin, Diana Gustafson and husband Ray of Indiana, maternal grandfather- Clifford Martie of Dowell, paternal grandmother- Gladys Ross of Dowell, mother & father-in-law- Aldo and Linda Bombardo of Du Quoin, grandmother-in-law- Betty Smith of Du Quoin, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother-Helen Martie, paternal grandfather- Bob Ross, aunt-Susie Martie and her great grandparents.
Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gary Pate officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Hallidayboro cemetery.
Caroline Colp Keene
Caroline Colp Keene, age 79, of Pinckneyville, passed away in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital on June 15, 2002 after an extended illness.
Caroline was born at home on January 13, 1923 in rural Carterville to Mr. and Mrs. Logan N. Colp. The home and farm originally belonged to her grandparents, the John Colps, a pioneer family in Williamson County. Until her death, she continued to assist in the management of the original home and farm.
She attended what became Southern Illinois University and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1943 with a master's degree in French.
During World War II and the immediate postwar era, she worked as a librarian with the Council of State Government in Chicago.
Caroline married
Dempsey M. Keene of Pinckneyville on September 8, 1945. To that marriage were born daughters, Anne (Mrs. Tom) Gore and Christine (Mrs. Charles D.) Wright.
Although she was very active with the American Association of University Women, the Carbondale Panhellenic, Delta Theta Tau, a local sorority, and the American Cancer Society, she considered her role as wife and mother to be her most important achievements.
She is survived by her two daughters and a brother, Mr. John L. Colp of Deming, N.M., as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Friday, June 21, 2002 at 2 p.m.
Because Caroline enjoyed reading, memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Pinckneyville Library, 312 South Walnut, Pinckneyville, IL 62274.
Mildred Inez Box
Mildred Inez Box, 84, of Sheffield, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2002, being lovingly tended by family, friends and staff at Park Place retirement home in Sheffield.
A native of Colbert County, Alabama, Mrs. Box and her husband resided for many years in DuQuoin, Illinois where she was active in community affairs.
She worked with garden clubs, Girl Scouts and chaired the Perry County Cancer Crusade. She held numerous service offices and served as president of the 25th District of Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs.
Since returning to Alabama, Mrs. Box organized Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Courtland, Ala. and was an active member in the Shoals chapter.
She is survived by her nieces, Sarah Borden of Florence, Ala., Rebecca Jackson and husband Larry of Memphis, Tenn. and Martha Ingalls of Summerville, S.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hallon Box; infant son and brothers, J.D. Johnson and Robert 'Mutt' Johnson.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at Park Place with Dr. George Cobb officiating. Interment was in Tuscumbia Oakwood cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday, June 5 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Park Place. Colbert Memorial Chapel was in charge of funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the humane shelter or Hospice of the Shoals.
Herbert Joe Brant
Herbert Joe Brant, 76, of Elkville, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2002 at 4:57 p.m. at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Mr. Brant was born June 30, 1925 in Seattle, Washington, the son of Frank and Ruth (Gillespie) Brant. He married
Nina Pauline DiBenedetto on September 2, 1978 at Pinckneyville.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Brant of Elkville; three sons, Keith Brant of Jolet, Wyoming., Frankie Joe Brant of Gladwin, Michigan and Denny Brant of Newark, Ohio; four daughters, Jeletta Brant of Elkville, Debbie Melvin of Holdrege, Nebraska, Vicky Melvin of Holdrege, Nebraska and Diana Gaten of Hebron, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one sister, Ann Richards of Romulus, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and one brother, George.
Mr. Brant's wishes were to be cremated. There were no services.
