Oren V. Loos
Oren V. Loos, age 83, of Pinckneyville, passed away Saturday morning, August 10, 2002 at Pinckneyville Health Care in Pinckneyville.
Oren was born in Pinckneyville January 27, 1919, the son of Edward Henry and Margaret A. (Schwartzkopf) Loos. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Faye Gieser and she preceded him in death on October 18, 1978. Oren was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WW II and a member of American Legion Post 2504 in Pinckneyville. Oren was a member of the IMRF and a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville and served as treasurer for several years. He was a retired employee of the City of Pinckneyville and a volunteer member of the Pinckneyville Ambulance and Fire Department.
Oren is survived by several nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services were held Tuesday Morning, August 13 at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville with Rev. Howard Self officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill cemetery in Pinckneyville.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Monday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning from 8 until 9:30 a.m. and then at the church until services.
Memorials may be made to the Pinckneyville Baseball Fields at the Perry County Fairgrounds.
James Richard Adcock
James Richard Adcock, 54 of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:09 A.M., Saturday, September 28, 2002 in rural Du Quoin.
James was a taxi driver for Daves Taxi Service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin. He was a US Army veteran.
James was born September 26, 1948 at Du Quoin, IL the son of Isaac and Emma (Stiller) Adcock.
He married
Shirley Robinson on March 6, 1976 at Du Quoin and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, step children- Christopher Robinson, Cathy Morgan and John Morgan all of Du Quoin, brother- Clarence Adcock of Du Quoin, grandchildren- Kelsey, Kyle, Logan and Andrea.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Stanley Adcock and Sonny Stiller.
Graveside funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at the Old Du Quoin cemetery with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
Friends called from 9 to 10 A.M. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Old Du Quoin cemetery.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin VFW Post 513.
Lora Marie Rice
Lora Marie Rice, 92, of DuQuoin, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 3:50 a.m. at Fair Acres Nursing Home.
Mrs. Rice was a homemaker and a member of Gospel Assembly Church.
She was born April 3, 1910 in Sunfield, the daughter of Fred and Sarah (Burbridge) Goddard. She married
Bertie Evertt Rice on September 28, 1928 at Chester and he preceded her in death on May 7, 1985.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Margie Rice of DuQuoin, Bob and Ann Rice of Goldsboro, N.C. and Bill and Mary K. Rice of DuQuoin; a granddaughter, Rhonda Gilliam, who was raised by Mrs. Rice; two sisters, Margaret Harris of DuQuoin and Virginia Dunavan of DuQuoin; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one granddaughter, Donna; one grandson, Scott and two brothers.
Funeral services were Saturday, August 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dennis Fitzsimmons officiating. Interment was in Primitive Baptist cemetery at DuQuoin.
Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Friday, August 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until time of services.
Marcella R. Chaney
Marcella R. Chaney, 77, of Benton, died Sunday morning, August 18, 2002 at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
For the last two years, Mr. and Mrs. Chaney had been residing in Villa Ridge, Mo.
Mrs. Chaney was born in Sesser on August 24, 1924, the daughter of Peter and Francis (Nowacki) Kwiatkowski. She married
Carl D. Chaney on January 17, 1948 in Detroit, Mich. and he survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Cindy Rumsey of Villa Ridge, Mo.; one son, Gary Chaney and wife Cathy of DuQuoin; three grandchildren, Tina Matheis and husband Rob of High Ridge, Mo., Chris Rumsey of Villa Ridge, Mo. and Brad Chaney and wife Amanda of O'Fallon; one great-grandson, Nicholas; two step-grandsons, one step-granddaughter; one step-great-grandson; one brother, Phil Kwiatkowski of Dearborn, Mich. and one sister, Helen Greenwood of Royal Oak, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 21 at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with Rev. Jack Hood officiating. Burial was in the Masonic & Oddfellows cemetery in Benton.

Rev. Billy Clifford Clark
Rev. Billy Clifford Clark, age 71, husband of Bonnie Jean Brown Clark, of 311 Kings Road Anderson, S.C. and Dewy Rose, Ga., died Thursday, August 29, 2002 at the Hospice House in Anderson, S.C.
Born in Anderson, S.C. on August 25, 1931, he was a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Tex. and was pastor of the First Baptist Church, DuQuoin, from 1982 to 1996, Park Hill Baptist Church, Austin, Tex. from 1970 to 1982, West Austin Baptist Church, Austin, Tex. from 1963 to 1970, Reliance Baptist Church, Bryan, Tex. from 1958-1960, Mayfield Baptist Church, Itasca, Tex. from 1954 to 1958. His revivals, partnership missions/evangelism travels carried him throughout the United States and Canada, Mexico, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Japan, Korea, Sweden, Norway and eleven European countries. He was thrilled at every opportunity to preach the Gospel of our Lord Jesus! He served as Pastor and Interim Pastor for several churches after his retirement. He was currently a member of Dewy Rose Baptist Church in Dewy Rose, Ga.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Bonnie Jean Brown Clark of the home; two daughters, Vi Ann Clark and her husband, Robert Clark Sr., of Dewy Rose, Ga. and Mary J. 'Mij' Sheehan and her husband, Jim Sheehan, of DuQuoin; five grandchildren, Robert Clark Jr. of Dewy Rose, Ga., Ryan Sheehan, Megan Sheehan, Margaret Sheehan and Connor Sheehan, all of DuQuoin; mother-in-law, Addie B. Brown of Anderson; sister-in-law, Joyce Clark; a niece, Joy Sturgis and her husband, Rick, and their three children and a nephew, Jay Clark and his wife, Amy, all of Greenville, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney H. Clark and Annie Ruth Shore Clark and a brother, Jack H. Clark.
Services were held on Monday, September 2 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of the McDougald Funeral Home with Reverends Gary Purvis, Bob Marcaurelle and Charles Boling officiating. Entombment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Anderson, S.C.
The body was at the McDougald Funeral Home where family received friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, September 2.
The family was at the residence, 311 Kings Road, Anderson, S.C.

Linda Carol Hickem
Linda Carol Hickem, 61, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:30 P.M., Monday, August 5, 2002 at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Linda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin.
She was born December 24, 1940 at Dowell, IL the daughter of Kenneth and Mildred (Chicon) Hickem.
She is survived by a brother- Jerry Brown and wife Rose Marie of Norridge, special friends- Susan Kunkel and Sherry Moore.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 8, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. M. Shaw DeMent officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Du Quoin.
Warren Burris
Warren Burris, age 81, of Swanwick, passed away Tuesday evening, August 20, 2002 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.
Warren was born December 5, 1920 in Marissa, the son of William John and Carrie (Zander) Burris. He was united in marriage to Mildred L. 'Mic' Jackson in Perryville, Mo. February 7, 1942 and she survives. Warren was a farmer and had previously served as Administrative Aid to the Sheriff of Perry County. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Coulterville, formerly a member of the Pinckneyville Masonic Lodge, Shriner's, Easter Star and a lifelong resident of Swanwick. Warren enjoyed square dancing, polka dancing, hunting and fishing and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Warren is survived by his wife, Mic Burris of Swanwick; a daughter, Janet Horner and her husband Alan of Coulterville; one sister, Vera Gordon and husband Eugene of Sparta; two grandchildren, Rodney Horner and wife Kelly and Dustin Horner and three great-grandchildren, Wesley, Jeremy and Jesse Horner. Warren was preceded in death by his parents; one young son, Stephen; two sons in infancy, Rody and Robert; five brothers, Eugene, Raymond, James, Bart and Billie and two sisters, Louise and Maude.
Funeral services were Friday morning, August 23 at the United Methodist Church in Coulterville at 10 a.m. with Pastor Mary Arnold officiating. Interment was in the Bethel cemetery in Swanwick.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Coulterville on Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. and again on Friday morning from 8 until 9 a.m. then at the church until services.

Margaret M. Green
Margaret M. Green, 76, DuQuoin, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at 7:15 a.m. at her home.
Mrs. Green owned and operated a daycare center. She was a member of Liberty Church.
She was born November 21, 1925 at DuQuoin, the daughter of Herman R. and Anna May (Moye) Smiley. She married
Richard Dean Green on February 19, 1949 at Mayfield, Ky. and he preceded her in death on February 10, 1988.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Ken King of Carrier Mills and Kristy and Clancy White of DuQuoin; one sister, Joe Ann Licata of DuQuoin; three grandchildren, Stephen White of DuQuoin, Heather Sigur of DuQuoin and Joshua King of Carrier Mills; one great-grandchild, Collin Sigur; one niece, Jo Karen Licata of Arlington, Tex. and one nephew, Rick Licata of Evansville, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 9 at 1 p.m. at Liberty Church with Rev. Steve Quinn and Rev. Lon McPherson officiating. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery at DuQuoin.
Visitation was at Liberty Church on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
Neal-McClure Funeral Home of DuQuoin was in charge of arrangements.

Cathy J. Allen
Cathy J. Allen, 46, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2002 at 2:30 a.m. at her home.
Mrs. Allen was born January 19, 1956 in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Elwood Humphrey and Dorothy (Petry) Humphrey. She married
Apostale Steve Allen on May 20, 1977 in DuQuoin.
Cathy was a minister for 20 years, during which she assisted her husband with his ministries. Cathy and her husband founded and directed The Chapel at the TA Travel Center in Mt. Vernon. She was active with the Prison Ministry at the Big Muddy Correctional Center. She also oversaw the running of the River Church in Jacksonville, Florida. At one point in her life, Cathy worked in the Medical Records Department at the Casey Care Center in Mt. Vernon and even ministered to residents there. She was also the past Pastor of the Spirit of Freedom Church.
This year, Cathy celebrated both 20 years in ministry and 25 years of marriage to her husband, Apostale Steve Allen. She was a member of Word Ministries International.
Surviving are her husband, Apostale Steve Allen of Mt. Vernon; mother, Dorothy Bailey and stepfather, Don Bailey of DuQuoin; two brothers, Raymond Humphrey and wife June of Ocala, Florida and Allen Humphrey and wife Sally of DuQuoin; four sisters, Liz Thompson of DuQuoin, Linda Huffman and husband Gordon of Wentzville, Mo., Mary Jones and husband Ken of St. Peters, Mo. and Ruth O'Rourke of DuQuoin and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Graveside services was Wednesday, August 28 at 10 a.m. at Oakwood cemetery in Mt. Vernon with Apostale Steve Allen officiating. Burial followed.
Friends called Tuesday, August 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Cecil Dale Woodside
Cecil Dale Woodside, 72, of Tamaroa, passed away at 6:51 A.M., Tuesday, July 9, 2002 in rural Tamaroa.
Cecil was a retired mine examiner last working for Consol Coal Co. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tamaroa. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the UMW of A and the Du Quoin VFW Post 513.
He was born February 6, 1930 at Sunfield, IL the son of James and Amanda (Elder) Woodside.
He married
Colleen Heape on April 30, 1951 at Tamaroa, IL, she passed away June 28, 1988.
He is survived by a son- Mike Woodside and wife Marilyn of Tamaroa, daughter- Terry Szczepanski and husband Lawrence Jr. of Tamaroa, three grandchildren- Brent, Kyle and Lacy Woodside, three sisters- Helen Wynn of Du Quoin, Lillian Downen of Tamaroa, Mabel Weisel and husband James of Tamaroa, brother- Richard Woodside and wife Sharon of Du Quoin, special friend- Nancy Williamson, three sisters-in-law- Gusty Woodside of Tamaroa, Wilma Woodside of Du Quoin, Clara Bell Woodside of Pinckneyville, brother-in-law- Bill Huggins of Du Quoin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 12, 2002 at the Paradise cemetery at Tamaroa with his nephew Rev. Thad Woodside officiating.

Sheilah G. Watts
Sheilah G. Watts, 46 of Dowell, passed away at 2:59 P.M., Tuesday, July 16, 2002 in a traffic accident at the intersection of Rt. 13/127 and Rt. 4, north of Murphysboro.
Sheilah was a buses aid for the Elverado School District. She was a member of the Dowell Baptist Church.
She was born October 12, 1955 at Du Quoin, IL the daughter of Harold E. and Doris S. (Williams) Miller.
She married
Warren "Buster" Watts on October 7, 1972 at Sunfield, IL and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Dowell, son- Warren Travis Watts and wife Reba of Metropolis, daughter- Misty D. Watts of Dowell, Granddaughter- Tabitha Harris of Metropolis, three brothers- Harold Miller Jr. and June Rosnowski of Elkville, Ralph Miller and wife Joann of Elkville and Roger Miller and wife Annabelle of Elkville, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 19, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gary Pate and Rev. Frank White officiating.
