Lois A. Minton
Lois A. Minton, age 89, of Pinckneyville, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Lois was born May 18, 1913 in Scheller, the daughter of Isaac and Lena (Newbury) Quinn. She was united in marriage to Cletes D. Minton November 12, 1939 and he survives. They celebrated 62 years of marriage in November 2001. Lois was an Elementary School teacher for 28 years, having taught at Waltonville, Scheller and Modoc and retiring from District #204 in Pinckneyville after 20 years of service. Lois was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville and was known for her kindness by all who knew her.
Lois is survived by her husband, Cletes of Pinckneyville; two sisters, Hattie Mabry of Collinsville and Ruth Fagan of Alton; several nieces and nephews and a dear friend and caretaker, Bernice Kellerman. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Glenn, Joe and Ralph Quinn and a sister, Marcella Ujka.
Funeral services were planned for Wednesday, July 17 at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville at 10 a.m. with Reverend James Bush officiating. Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park cemetery in DuQuoin.
Friends called at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home on the day of the service from 9:30 until 10 a.m.

Leonard W. McKinstry
Leonard W. McKinstry, age 77, of Pinckneyville, died at his home on Monday, July 15, 2002 at 3:07 a.m.
Leonard was born in Rice on May 15, 1925, the son of Leonard W. and Louisa (Deitz) McKinstry. He married
Louise Stockton in Tamaroa on September 9, 1950 and she survives.
During his lifetime he was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Pinckneyville, a member of the Mitchell Lodge #85 A.F. & A.M. in Pinckneyville and a 32nd Degree member of the Consistory of Belleville. He worked for Everett Rice Ford in Pinckneyvillle for 16 years before working for Ziegler Coal Company in Sparta, was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and served on the District 212 School Board.
Survivors include his wife: Louise; two sons: Randy G. and Steven R. and his wife, Debbie, all of Pinckneyville; two daughters: Donna Schwarz and her husband, Mark, of DuQuoin and Debra L. Halfacre and her husband, Michael, of Pinckneyville; one brother: George E. McKinstry and his wife, Wanda, of Pinckneyville; eight grandchildren: Michelle Hill (Paul), Rhonda McKinstry, Eric & Kyle Halfacre, David, Lyndsey and Jon McKinstry and Skyler Schwarz and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Helen Bigham and two brothers: Floyd and Bert.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 18 at 10 a.m. in the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Rob Mathis officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 until 9 a.m. then at the church from 9:30 a.m. until services. Masonic services were held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or the American Cancer Society.
Russell Edward Mohr
Russell Edward Mohr, age 71, of Pinckneyville, died at his home on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at 7:20 p.m.
Russell was born on July 8, 1930 in rural Perry County, the son of Edward P. and Emma (Walkenhorst) Mohr. He married
Carolyn E. Linstead on July 20, 1957 in Pinckneyville at the United Church of Christ. Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany between WW II and Korea. He was a retired farmer, a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville and served on the Consistory for the church. Russell was also a member of the Farm Bureau, American Thresherman Association, Grade School District #50 Board and the weed control officer for Perry County.
Russell is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of Pinckneyville; one son, David, also of Pinckneyville; two daughters, Rose Tidwell and husband Chris of St. Louis, Mo. and Judy Logsdon and husband David and her two children, Seth and Andrea, all of Pinckneyvillle; three brothers, Carl Mohr and wife Mary Ann of Pinckneyville, Robert Mohr and wife Ann of Cutler and Edward Dean Mohr and wife Pat of Murphysboro; six sisters, Martha Kendrick and husband Bill of Harrison, Ark., Betty Brostmeyer and husband Euclid of Tamaroa, Dorothy Storz of Cahokia, Deloris Bender and husband Bill of Pinckneyville, Mary Greer and husband Charles of Pinckneyville and Emma Jean Johnson and husband Terry of Coulterville. Russell was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Laura Epplin.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 6 at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville with Reverend Howard Self officiating. Interment was in the Galum Presbyterian cemetery, Pinckneyville.
Friends called at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville Friday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until services.

Virginia L. Rice
Virgina L. Rice, 74, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:01 A.M. on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at Fairview Nursing Center in Du Quoin.
Virginia was a homemaker and worked at the ticket office at the Du Quoin State Fair and at J.V. Walker Men's Store in Du Quoin. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Du Quoin.
She was born September 1, 1928 at Valier, IL, the daughter of Harry and Ruby (Stockton) Lewis.
She married
Neil D. Rice on December 6, 1947 in Oceola, Arkansas and he survives.
She is survived by her husband - Neil, one son - Steve Rice and wife Cindy of Mt. Vernon, IL, one daughter - Marla Bearden of Carbondale, IL, four grandchildren - Jason Rice of Salt Lake City, Utah, Bryan Rice of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Matthew Bearden of Carbondale, Illinois, Jamie Bearden of Carbondale, Illinois, one great-grandson, Draven Corse.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother - Kenneth Lewis.
Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 6, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Lee Tyler officiating.
Friends called from 5-8 P.M., Thursday, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.

Cletes D. Minton
Cletes D. Minton, age 95, of Pinckneyville, died in the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville on Saturday, September 14, 2002.
Cletes was born on April 15, 1907 in Thebes, the son of Ralph and Della Ann (Erwin) Minton. He married
Lois A. Quinn on November 12, 1939 and she preceded him in death on July 14, 2002. Cletes served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a Track Foreman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
He is survived by a niece Dorothy Eggemeyer and husband Raynold of Chester; a nephew, Donald Minton and wife Jackie of Carbondale; a special caregiver, Bernice Kellerman of Pinckneyville and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers, Loyd E. Minton and O.W. Minton.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 17 at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home at 10 a.m. with Rev. James Bush officiating. Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin.
Visitation was held on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until services at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home.
Eva Wall
Eva Wall, age 90, of DuQuoin, formerly of West Frankfort, died September 14, 2002 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital. She was born January 9, 1912 in Franklin County to Turley Maddox and Minnie (Dillon) Maddox. She married
Theodore Wall in 1934 and he preceded her in death in 1954.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Deon and Tammy Wall of DuQuoin and Tom and Dorothy Wall of Chandler, Arizona. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Robert, Jennifer, Teddy Andy and Susie; one step-grandchild, Jeffery and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Anna Rich, Mae Sims, Stella Pogue and Nellie Maddox and by brothers, Earl, Vernie and Oral Maddox.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Old DuQuoin Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 20 at 11 a.m. at the Antioch Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Gossett officiating. Burial was in the East Fork cemetery.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort and after 9 a.m. on Friday at the church.
Steven P. Hamilton
Steven P. Hamilton, age 49, of 5684 Swanwick-Rice Road, Rice, passed away suddenly Saturday evening, September 14 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital in Pinckneyville.
Steven was born May 24, 2953 in East St. Louis, the son of Paul P. and Jennie (Wortham) Hamilton. He was united in marriage to Diana L. Ries on June 14, 1975 in Millstadt and she survives. Steven had been Pastor for Concord Baptist Church in Rice for the last seven years, coming from the Prairie du Rocher and Baldwin area. He was a member of the Pinckneyville Ministerial Alliance, actively involved in the Nine Mile Baptist Association and loved fishing and barbecuing and fellowship with family and friends.
Steven is survived by his mother, Jennie Hamilton of Cahokia; his wife, Diana of Rice; one son, Nathaniel Hamilton and wife Bridget of Killeen, Tex.; one daughter, Sondra Hartsock of Rice; one brother, Michael Hamilton and wife Tammie of Fort Worth, Tex.; two sisters, Diana Burns and husband Keith of Collinsville and Elizabeth Burns and husband Jay of Dupo; two grandchildren, Latreyvia and Deantea Sharpe and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services were Wednesday afternoon, September 18 at 1 p.m. at the Concord Baptist Church in Rice with Reverend Bill Burke officiating. Interment was in the Goodbread cemetery in Gorham.
Friends called Tuesday evening at the Concord Baptist Church in Rice from 5 to 9 p.m. and again on the day of the service from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Kenneth C. Peters
Kenneth C. Peters, 66, Marissa, passed away Monday, September 23, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Peters was born November 17, 1935 in Marissa, the son of William and Selma (Montroy) Peters. He was a Coal Miner and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Marissa.
Surviving are his daughter, Lisa (Thomas) Emling of DuQuoin; son, Doug (Julianna) Peters of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Michelle Peters of Chicago; brother, Paul (Mary Lou) Peters of Marissa; sister, Mildred Stewart of California and grandchildren, Dylan Dettman, Taryn Dettman and Madison Peters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
A memorial service was held September 26 at 1 p.m. at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home. Interment was in Marissa cemetery.

Ray Speith
Ray Speith, 96, of Ava, passed away at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro.
Mr. Speith was a retired Gasoline Station Operator and Bus Driver. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ava.
Mr. Speith was born Tuesday, May 22, 1906 in Ava, the son of Abe and Bertha Ellen Cottom Speith. He married
Mary Alice Nisbet on June 24, 1928 in Mulkeytown.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Alice Speith of Ava; one son, Gerald Ray (Retta) Speith of Ava; one daughter, Mary Ellen Trail of Pinckneyville; seven grandchildren, Edward Ray Trail of Pinckneyville, Larry Wayne Trail of Pinckneyville, Claude Dean Trail of Pinckneyville, Mark Eugene Trail of Pinckneyville, Mary Elizabeth Priebe of Percy, Zachary Allen Speith of Ava and Leah Kathryn Speith of Ava; eight great-grandchildren and one brother, George Speith of Ava.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters, one son-in-law and one grandson.
Funeral services were Saturday, September 21 at 11 a.m. at Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. Jeff Wiggs officiating. Interment was in Ava Evergreen cemetery.

Kathryn E. Harmon
Kathryn E. Harmon, 75, of Dowell, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2002 at 12:06 a.m. at Marshall Browning Hospital.
Mrs. Harmon was a homemaker and a member of Elkville Baptist Church.
She was born November 4, 1926 at Murphysboro, the daughter of Arthur C. and Florence E. (Creech) Miller. She married
Guy 'Roy' Harmon on April 5, 1975 at DuQuoin and he preceded her in death on October 4, 1987.
Surviving are one son, Michael Harmon of Florida; four daughters, Diane Jackson of Elkville, Joey Betts of DuQuoin, Cathy MacArthur of Las Vegas, Nev. and Candy Shemonia of Murphysboro; three brothers, Glen Miller of Washington, Frank Miller of Waterloo and Mitchell Miller of Alaska; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Earl Miller and three sisters, Villa Jeremiah, Dorothy Simmons and Sanda Rae Miller.
Funeral services were Wednesday, September 18 at 2 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Darryl Williams officiating. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery at Mulkeytown.
Friends called Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Neal-McClure Funeral Home in DuQuoin and again on Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. until time of service.

Gale D. Hicks
Gale D. Hicks, age 80, of 202 South First Street, Pinckneyville, passed away at his home Monday morning, September 9, 2002.
Gale was born the son of Garney Frank and Evelyn (Todd) Hicks. He was united in marriage in New Orleans, La. May 6, 1943 to Margaret June Stone and she survives. Gale was a WW II veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force.
Gale is survived by his wife, June and a daughter, Milinda 'Mindy' Gail Riggio and her husband, Pete Guy Riggio of DuQuoin and numerous cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private family services were held Wednesday morning, September 11 at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville. Interment was in the Pinckneyville IOOF City cemetery.

Wanda A. Holloway
Wanda A. Holloway, age 82, of Pinckneyville, passed away in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Emergency Room on Thursday, October 24, 2002 at 10:17 p.m.
Wanda was born on May 23, 1920 in Pinckneyville, the daughter of Oscar A. and Mary (Miller) Keene. She married
Clifford Holloway in Tamaroa March 15, 1936 and he survives. Wanda was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Pinckneyville. She was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Pinckneyville, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the ladies Auxiliary and very involved in church activities. She enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband and loved her grandchildren and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband Clifford of Pinckneyville; a son, Ron Holloway and wife Darlene of Pinckneyville; a sister, Geneva Foster of DuQuoin; a son-in-law, Frank Stein of Pinckneyville; four grandchildren, Julie Davis, Megan Wommack, Doug and Scott Wedeking; five great-grandchildren, Ashley Simpson, Chloe Wommack, Laura Pierce, Reise and Kaitlyn Wedeking. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Judith Rae Stein; one brother, Winnie Keene and two sisters, Bessie Carson and Ethel Kellerman.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, October 28 at 10;30 a.m. at the First Apostolic Church in Pinckneyville with Reverend Leonard Glover officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill cemetery.
Visitation was held at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Sunday, October 27 from 6 until 9 p.m. and on Monday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. then at the church from 10 a.m. until services.

Anna Hottes
Anna Hottes, age 97, of Nashville, formerly of Pinckneyville, died Sunday, October 27, 2002 in the Friendship Manor Nursing Home, Nashville.
Anna was born in Belleville on September 2, 1905, a daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Ruckriegel) Weil. She accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the age of 56. Anna enjoyed being a member of the Faithful Worker's Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Nashville. She had worked as a clerk and housekeeper at the Hotel Belleville, Belleville, Ill.
Survivors include a son, Harvey Hottes and his wife, Nancy, all of Ava and a daughter, Leah Queen and her husband, Earl, of Nashville. Anna was affectionately known as 'Cookie Grandma' to six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Her parents, two sisters and five brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 29 at 3 p.m. in the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville with Bro. Bill Carter officiating. Interment was in the Creek Paum cemetery in rural Vergennes.
