Dennis Wayne Dimitroff
Dennis Wayne Dimitroff, 22, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2002 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Mr. Dimitroff was a Food Prep at Gilster Mary Lee and a member of the Church of Nazarene in Du Quoin. He was also a member of the Jaycees.

He was born February 27, 1980 at Pinckneyville, the son of John E. Dimitroff and Patsy S. Conner.

Surviving are his father, John Dimitroff of Du Quoin; his mother, Patsy Teffertiller of Tamaroa; brother, Shannon Dimitroff of Benton; paternal grandmother, Madlene Dimitroff of Du Quoin; maternal grandfather, Lester Conner of Tamaroa and a host of aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Funeral services were Monday, December 23 at 1 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jerry Whittington officiating.

Friends called from 11:30 a.m. until time of service on Monday.

Helen Louise Beidel
Helen Louise Beidel died December 19 at her home in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She was the daughter of Nick and Glorene Gidak.

Surviving are her husband, Bill; two children, Pam of Spokane, Washington and Chris of Falls Church, Virginia; grandchildren and a sister, Mary Ann Harris of Du Quoin.

Preceding her in death were brothers, Edward and Donald; sister, Eileen Tennate and her parents.

Elizabeth G. Howerton
Elizabeth G. Howerton, 96, of Du Quoin passed away Thursday, November 7, 2002 at 2:39 p.m. at Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.

Mrs. Howerton was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge and she was a charter member of the Du Quoin Senior Citizens.

She also enjoyed traveling, visiting her children and grandchildren and taking tours.

She was born August 13, 1906 in St. John's, IL. to Charles G. and Lilly Belle (Mills) Rudloff. She married Walter B. Howerton on June 12, 1922 and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1971.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law Helen and Fred Meyer of Elgin, Marie Carson of North City and Lorene and Jewel Lawrence of Reseda, Calif, grandchildren and their spouses Rex and Gloria Meyer, Maurice and Sheri Meyer, David and Peggy Carson, Delena and Frank Kelley, Doriene Carson, Lilly and Eddie White, Robert Johnson, James Johnson, great grandchildren and their spouses Rex Meyer, Jr., Michelle Meyer, Jennifer Meyer, Robert Meyer, Lauren Meyer, Julie and Tim Sunderland, Bart and Tammie Carson, Carrie Kelley, Robert and Rowena Keil, Monica and Mike Wilson. Great, great grandchildren Logan Carons, Jordan Carson, Jib Ray Sunderland, Jessica Sunderland, Regina Kell, Matthew and Megan Wilson. Nieces Rosilie Rudloff Green, Carrie Payne, Betty and Lyle Ernst and Marge Howerton. Nephews Raymond Hamilton and Dale Rudloff.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Mary Alberts Harris, three brothers Frank, Charles and Robert, son-in-law Olyn Carson, nieces Lila Mae Burgland, Catherine Rudloff and nephews Robert Harris, Henry "Hank" Alberts, Robert Payne, Loren Howerton and Ray Howerton.

Funeral services were Sunday, November 10, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Neal McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.

Friends called at the Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Bonnie Holland
Bonnie Holland, 69, Christopher, passed away Monday, November 25, 2002 at 3:17 p.m. in her home.

Mrs. Holland had retired from BICC Cable in Du Quoin. She was a member of Knoff Bend Pentecostal Church in Elkville.

She was born July 29, 1933 in Elkville, the daughter of William H. and Rosa A. (Foster) Barnes. She married Robert G. Holland and he preceded her in death on July 27, 1996.

Surviving are four children, Rose Mattingly of Energy, Robert Holland of Elkville, Michael Holland of Hurst and Tony Holland of Christopher; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Beulah Bosecker of Du Quoin and one brother, Billy Barnes of West Frankfort.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 27 at 2 p.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Brother Merle Macke officiating. Interment was in Herrin City cemetery.

Friends called at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher on Wednesday from 12 p.m. until time of service.

June Gilbert Hill
June Gilbert Hill, age 88, died Sunday, November 3, 2002 at 12:35 p.m. in the Pinckneyville Skilled Care Unit.

June was born in rural Perry County on June 4, 1914, the son of Leslie Guy and Margaret Ellen (Schmidt) Hill. He married Alice Mae Grote on November 10, 1932 in Nashville and she preceded him in death on October 6, 2000.

He was of the Baptist faith, was an equipment operator and truck driver for the coal mines, a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 9721, an avid hunter, fisherman and avid golfer.

Survivors include four sons, Leo Edward Hill and his wife, Shirley, of Sparta, Dallas June Hill and his wife, Jean, of Red Bud, Arlen Dean Hill and his wife, Eileen, and Merle Leslie Hill and his wife, Judy, all of Pinckneyville; a daughter, Melba Ann Wolfe and her husband, Dale, of Pinckneyville; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, James Hill; granddaughter, Stephanie Hill and sister, Wilma Jones.

Funeral services were held on Friday, November 8 at 11 a.m. in the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Pinckneyville with Bro. Rob Mathis officiating. Interment was in the Oak Grove cemetery.

Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. then at the church until services.

Memorials may be made to the Stephanie Hill Memorial Scholarship Fund.

James Ryland Pearl
Mr. James Ryland Pearl, 74, of Anna, died at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at his home in Anna. He was born March 6, 1928 in Mexico, Mo., the son of Ryland Edward and Blanche Brownell Pearl. He married Collynn Kay Large on October 29, 1983 in Battle Creek, Mich.

He is survived by his wife Collynn of Anna; two daughters, Pamela Kay and husband Jay Cadigan of New Jersey and Patricia Ann Jackson of Carbondale; one son, James Edward Pearl of Texas; four grandchildren, Michael Patrick and wife Trista Halliday, Matthew Shane Halliday, Dustin Aaron Halliday and Sammie Jo Halliday and one great-grandson, Trent Halliday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche Pearl in 1983 and Ryland Pearl in 1994.

Jim started his equestrian career in Mexico, Mo. and he continued it his entire life. He won at the American Royal with his Shetland Pony 'Queenie' three times, starting at the age of six. He would go on to show at Shelbyville, where he was National Amateur Champion with his walking horses. In later years he developed a passion for Reining horses and now has a champion stallion.

When Jim was 11 the family moved to Anna, where his father purchased the Chevrolet Dealership. He joined the Navy in 1946 and served until 1948. When he returned he attended SIU-C and went to work in the family dealership. In 1952 he purchased the Cheverolet-Oldsmobile dealership in Vienna from James O'Keefe. This continued the family tradition in the automobile business. At the time, Jim became the youngest Chevrolet dealer in the country and a third-generation dealer. His grandfather, Ed Pearl, still had a dealership in Mexico, Mo. and his father was in business in Anna.

While in Vienna, Jim was involved in all aspects of the community. He was President of the Chamber of Commerce and also served as President of the Kiwanis. He helped organize and served as President of the Vienna Saddle Club. He was also instrumental in fund-raising for a new softball field.

In 1968 Oldsmobile came to him and asked him to purchase the Swindell Oldsmobile-Cadillac-Pontiac dealership in Carbondale. He did and later added GMC & Isuzu. In 1972 he moved the dealership to its current location on East Walnut. While in Carbondale he was again involved with he Chamber of Commerce, where he was the sponsor for many years of the Athena award and participated in many economic development endeavors. He served on the original board for the United Way of Carbondale and sponsored the kick-off breakfast for 15 years. He was also a member of the Elks Club & VFW of Carbondale and Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna. In 2001 he sold his dealership and returned to his horse farm 'Pearl Acres' in Anna.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 25 at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna with Dr. Tom Gamble and Dr. Richard Hertenstein officiating. Interment was in the Anna City cemetery.

Friends called at the Lutz & Rendelman Funeral Home in Anna from 4 until 7 p.m. on Sunday and from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour on Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Southern Illinois 1110 N. Johnson, Marion IL 62959.

Zellah May Provart
Zellah May Provart, 81, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:48 A.M., Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at Pinckneyville Community Hospital in Pinckneyville.

Zellah was a homemaker and beautician. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Du Quoin and Euzelian Sunday School class. She was involved in Training Union and Clothing for the Needy.

She was born February 21, 1921 at Tamaroa, IL, the daughter of Everett James and Josie (Morrow) Crawford.

She married Gerald Gordon Provart on August 24, 1941 at Marble Hill, MO and he preceded her in death on August 2, 1999.

She is survived by one son - Gordon Wayne Provart and wife Margaret of Woodland Park, CO, one daughter - Joan Margaret Russell of Du Quoin, IL, four grandchildren - Laura Klump of Murphysboro, IL, Meredith Alexander of Highlands Ranch, CO, Josh Russell and Brandon Russell of Du Quoin, IL, and two great-grandchildren - Aaron Klump and Quincy Klump.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 15, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Interment was in the Tamaroa cemetery.

Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin.

Thomas Allen Morgan
Thomas Allen Morgan, 55, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:15 P.M., November 14, 2002 at his residence.

Thomas was an operator for the coal mines. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a US Air Force veteran of Viet Nam and served with the Red Horse Security Division. He was a member of Viet Nam Veterans of America.

He was born February 8, 1947, at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Silas and Alma R. (Graff) Morgan Jr.

He is survived by his mother of Du Quoin, one son - Jeromie Morgan and wife Robin of Du Quoin, four brothers, Silas Morgan of Du Quoin, Larry Morgan of Elkville, Gary D. Morgan of Elkville, Steve Morgan of Du Quoin, one sister - Frances Herbert of Du Quoin, and four grandchildren - Jakeb, Kayce, Logan and Ashley.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services were at 1:00 P.M., Monday, November 18, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Silas Morgan officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Interment was in the Elkville cemetery at Elkville.

Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin VFW Post 513.

Virginia M. Mills
Virginia M. Mills, 71, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:45 P.M., Friday, November 22, 2002 at her residence.

Virginia was owner-operator of Mills Janitor Service. She was an avid flower gardener. She was associated with the Tamaroa Christian Church.

She was born December 14, 1930 at Du Quoin, IL the daughter of Walter and Bertha (Bird) Queen.

She married Walter W. Mills Jr. in 1986 at St. Louis, MO he passed January 2, 1999.

She is survived by two sons- Walter Blake Neal and wife Shirley of Hurricane, W. VA, Douglas Allen Neal and wife Nora of Pinckneyville, three sisters- Delores Hensler of Collinsville, Peggy Taylor of Tamaroa, Anita Dennison of Waterloo, six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Terry Dale Neal and one brother.

Graveside services were at 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 25, 2002 at the Cudgetown cemetery at Du Quoin with Bro. Jerry Aken officiating.

The Searby Funeral Home of Du Quoin was in charge of arrangements.

There was no visitation and those attending the services are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Interment was in the Cudgetown cemetery.

Friends may make memorials to the Perry County Hospice.

Sarah Anne Helvey
Sarah 'Gloria' Anne Helvey, age 64, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at her daughter's home in Gillette, Wyoming after a three-year illness.

Gloria was born on May 19, 1938 in Rice, the daughter of Claude and Velma (Miller) Hutchings. Gloria married Paul Helvey on June 15, 1957 at the Concord Baptist Church in Rice and he survives.

Up until moving to Gillette this past March, Gloria and her husband, Paul, had been volunteering for JAARS and Wycliffe Bible Translators moving missionaries, pastors and their families throughout the 50 states and Canada. They spent three years living in North Carolina during their service to the Wycliffe Bible Translators. Gloria was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church in Lancaster, South Carolina. Throughout her life she was active in the Woman's Missionary Union and acted as a leader in Girl's In Action, Acteens and as a Sunday School teacher.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Paul; two children, Jill Hampleman and her husband, Kevin, of Gillette, Wyoming and Reverend Daniel Helvey and his wife, Joanie, of Alcolu, South Carolina; five granddaughters, Courtney McLaughlin and her husband, Jade, of Gillette, Wyoming; Katie Hampleman and Abbey Hampleman, both of Gillette, Wyoming; Megan Helvey and Amy Helvey of Alcolu, South Carolina; two grandsons, Andrew Helvey and Justin Helvey of Alcolu South Carolina; three brothers, Max Hutchings and his wife, Roberta, of Mount Vernon, Jack Hutchings and his wife, Carolyn, of Pinckneyville and Randy Hutchings of Jacksonville, Florida and one sister, Mary Nehring of Pinckneyville. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Gloria in death were her parents and her sister, Charlene Dempsey and a great nephew, James Young.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 19 at the Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville at 10 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Helvey officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill cemetery, Pinckneyville.

Friends called at the Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville on Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. until services.

Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering in care of the Beaucoup Baptist Church. This offering benefits the missionaries of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville was in charge of arrangements.

Vernon William Miller
Vernon William Miller, 71, of Cutler, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2002 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

Mr. Miller was retired from the Air Force, having attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He was veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Grandview Lodge #618 in Grandview, Mo.

He was born Monday, September 14, 1931 in Marissa, the son of Frank W. and Florence (Holman) Miller. He married Anncliesel H. Stopel on February 16, 1957 in Frankfurt, Germany and she preceded him in death on December 22, 1994.

Surviving are his mother, Florence Miller of Cutler; five brothers, Merle (Martha) Miller of Campbell Hill, Roy 'Jinx' (Jo) Miller of Cutler, Quenton (Yvonne) Miller of Cutler, Ronald (Tammy) Miller and Kenneth (Karen) Miller of Percy; four sisters, Wanda (Don) Snyder of Pittsfield, Patsy (Cork) Spann of Pittsfield, Sheryl (Jack) Hardy of Cutler and Lavonna (Roy) Conway of Cutler and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Frank B. and one sister, Lavonne.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 25 at 10 a.m. at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville with Rev. Larry G. Revelle officiating. Interment was in Bethel cemetery at Swanwick.

Friends called after 6 p.m. Sunday at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville and on Monday from 7:30 a.m. until the hour of service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
