Opal E. Fisher
Opal E. (nee Killingsworth) Fisher, 95, of Freeburg, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2002 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville.
Mrs. Fisher was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Freeburg. She was born February 7, 1907 in Perry County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Fisher, whom she married
April 30, 1927 and who died April 27, 1983; her parents, Robert and Rebecca (nee Neville) Killingsworth; a great-granddaughter, Kelly Fisher; a sister, Audry Stowers and three brothers, Clyde Killingsworth, Edward Killingsworth and Robert 'Earl' Killingsworth.
Surviving are a son, Bobby J. (Marilyn A.) Fisher of Smithton; granddaughter, Jean Flora (& Ron Morris) of Altamont; grandsons, Bobby J. (Crystal) Fisher Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Charles W. Fisher of Smithton; great-grandchildren, Scott Flora, Keshia Nelson, Bobby Fisher III, Jason Fisher, Jennifer Fisher and Jill Fisher; great-grandchildren, Desiree Nelson, Samantha Jennings, Christina Jo Flora and Scott Flora Jr. and sisters, Ruby Larocca, Mildred Farthing and Alma Lloyd.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 11 at 11 a.m. at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Freeburg with Rev. Earl Crecelius officiating. Interment was in Smithton cemetery in Smithton.

John J. Kellerman
John J. Kellerman, age 81, of Pinckneyville, died Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 10:37 a.m. in the Skilled Care Unit of Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
John was born near Oakdale on October 21, 1921, the son of August and Catherine (Todd) Kellerman. He married
Ruby Smith on September 6, 1952 and she preceded him in death on February 21, 2002.
During his lifetime he served with the U.S. Army during World War II, was a construction laborer, a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville, Laborer Union #738, V.F.W. Post #3959, Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504 in Pinckneyville and the Knights of Columbus Post #2921, Pinckneyville.
Survivors include his son, Charles V. Kellerman and his wife, Kim; two grandchildren, Jonathan V. and Hannah Kellerman, all of Pinckneyville; three sisters, Ann Baudison and Rose Kellerman, both of Pinckneyville and Florence Wessels of St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Joseph Kellerman Jr.; three brothers, Anton, Eugene and James and a sister, Genieve Ruffino.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 3 at 10 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church with Fr. John Venegoni officiating. Interment was in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic cemetery, Todd's Mill. The Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504 conducted graveside military rites.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The Rosary was said at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the St. Bruno School Endowment Fund.
Violet Mae Kimmel
Violet Mae Kimmel, age 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, departed this life on November 24, 2002 in Cedar Park, Texas. She was born on February 4, 1914 the third daughter of the Reverend Noah and Julia Norris in Clay City, Illinois. Violet is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 42 years, and her three sisters, Fern, Myrtle, and June.
Violet graduated from Elkville Community High School in 1931. She was a member of numerous churches, serving the Lord her entire life. She was a member of Saint Louis Catholic Church, in Austin, Texas, at the time of her death. Violet married
James Bennett Kimmel on July 3, 1933, they began their long, and full lives together that produced 3 children, 13 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She began her career at McDonald Douglas Aircraft Company in 1956 where she retired after 23 years of service. Upon her retirement in 1979, Violet made her home in Austin, Texas. Violet will be dearly missed and remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, gracious hostess, wonderful cook, and by her quick wit, who was always ready to engage in spirited conversation about religion and politics, and the lunches with her friends "The Golden Girls".
Violet is survived by her daughter, Loretta Lynne Kimmel-Cook and husband Mural of Lago Vista, Texas; sons, James Edward Kimmel and wife Jan of Cedar Creek, Texas; Larry Norman Kimmel and wife Betty of Freeburg, Illinois; granddaughters, Leslie Pees, Kim Kimmel, Heide Kimmel, Jennifer Taylor, Kristie Patterson; grandsons, Larry Norman Kimmel II, Keith Kimmel, James B. Kimmel, Dean Kimmel, Jason Edwards, Joseph Edwards, Jonathan Edwards, and John Cook; great-grandchildren, Gabe Kimmel, Sarah Kimmel, Claire Pees, Cody Pees, Cassidee Taylor, and Nicholas Taylor.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 29, 2002, at the Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating. Burial was in Elkville cemetery.
The Neal-McClure Funeral Home in DuQuoin was in charge of arrangements.
Charles A. Kern
Charles A. Kern, 90, of Edwardsville, formerly of DuQuoin, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2002 at 12:45 p.m. in Edwardsville.
Upon his retirement in 1963 from RAMAPO AJAX CO., a division of American Brake Shoe Co., he began working as a custodian at LeClaire School, retiring in 1976. In the early 1960's Mr. Kern transported handicapped children in Edwardsville School District #7.
He enjoyed bowling and gardening.
He was born December 4, 1911 in DuQuoin, the son of Adam and Emma (Newborn) Kern. He married
Dorothy (Slate) Kern on April 24, 1935 in Metropolis and she preceded him in death on April 23, 1987.
Surviving are one daughter, June Weber and husband Duane of Edwardsville; four grandchildren, Mark Weber of Beeville, Tex., Ross (Wife Cheryl) Weber of Edwardsville, Karl (Wife Dawn) Weber of St. Peter's, Mo. and Lt. Col. Lindsay Weber of Montgomery, Ala.; six great-grandchildren, Sara, Joshua, Anthony, Kyle, Bailey and Karissa; brother-in-law, Cecil Slate and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Private graveside services were held at Sacred Heart cemetery in Du Quoin with Monsignor Harry Jerome officiating.
There was a private family visitation.

John E. Bowlin Sr.
John E. Bowlin Sr., 66, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:25 P.M., Sunday, November 24, 2002 at his residence.
John was a retired Health Officer for the City of Du Quoin and had also worked at Turco Manufacturing for twenty-eight years. He was a volunteer fireman for the Du Quoin Fire Department for thirty-one years. He was of the Protestant faith.
He was born November 15, 1936, at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Amos and Lois (Hawk) Bowlin.
He married
Julia R. Dennison on September 24, 1961 at Du Quoin, IL and she preceded him in death on November 3, 1989.
He is survived by his mother - Lois Bowlin of Du Quoin, two sons - John E. Bowlin Jr. of Channahon, IL and Kenneth Ray Bowlin of Du Quoin, two sisters - Carolyn Wheatley and husband Lester of Du Quoin and Marilyn Melvin and husband John of Du Quoin, three grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, wife, and one brother - Everett Bowlin.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Bro. Kenneth Hawk officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Old Du Quoin cemetery.

James C. Baker
James C. Baker, 78, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:50 P.M., Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
James was a retired jailer with the Perry County Sheriff's Department. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a member of Du Quoin VFW and a former member of Rod & Gun Club. He was an Army veteran of W.W. II and earned a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.
He was born March 24, 1924 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Louis C. and Leona (Rice) Baker.
He married
Mary Macaluso and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by five sons - James C. Baker Jr. and wife Linda M. of Du Quoin, Richard A. Baker and wife Scherry of Du Quoin, Louie E. Baker and wife Vickie L. of Du Quoin, Jack W. Baker of Du Quoin, Billy D. Baker and wife Joyce M. of Quicksburg, VA, one daughter - June E. Roznowski and Harold Miller of Elkville, one brother - Jack Baker of Du Quoin, one sister - Shirley Baker of Du Quoin, special friend - Lois Steadman of Du Quoin, twelve grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services were at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, November 10, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Kurt Harris officiating.

Ralph Robert Andrews
Ralph Robert Andrews, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:40 A.M., Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at the Veterans Hospital in Marion, IL.
Ralph had operated a used car dealership from 1956 to 1969. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Du Quoin VFW Post 513. He was a US Navy veteran of W.W. II.
He was born January 18, 1916 at Bismarck, ND, the son of Frank and Anna (Pelker) Andrews. He was raised by his stepmother, Frances Andrews.
He married
Esther C. Bendrick on November 26, 1936 at St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois, IL and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2000.
He is survived by one sister-in-law - Loretta Reidelberger of DuBois, IL, one brother-in-law - Dr. A.J. Bendrick of Chicago Heights, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother - Stanley, and one sister - Catherine.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 30, 2002 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois with Fr. Daniel Jurek officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Rosary was recited at 7 P.M., Friday at the funeral home.
Interment was in the St. Charles Catholic cemetery in DuBois.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin VFW Post 513.

Kay Ellen Thompson
Kay Ellen Thompson, 55, of Tamaroa, passed away at 11:20 A.M., Thursday, October 10, 2002 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Kay was a supervisor at Five Star Industries in Du Quoin, IL. She was a member of Paradise Baptist Church.
She was born November 7, 1946 at Du Quoin, IL, the daughter of Herschel and Evelyn (Baggett) Whitley.
She married
Richard F. Thompson on December 28, 1963 at Du Quoin, IL and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Tamaroa, son - Richard Allen Thompson of Du Quoin, two daughters - Tammy Kay Robertson of Du Quoin, Julie Ann Essary of Tamaroa, two brothers - Gerald Whitley and James Whitley of Du Quoin, sister - Barbara McCrary of Du Quoin, five grandchildren - Tyler Jacob Essary, Colton Scott Essary, Nikki Nicole Thompson, Whitley Ann Thompson, and Braden Michael Robertson.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were at 1:30 P.M., Sunday, October 13, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Shaw DeMent and Rev. Claude Hampleman officiating.

Patti L. Blockley
Patti L. (Hepp) Blockley, 44, of Chester, passed away at 5:36 a.m., Friday, November 8, 2002 at Wine Hill Road, Chester.
She was a heavy equipment operator. She was a member of Operating Engineers Local 318 and UMWA Consol Burning Star 4 for 15 years. She was a member of the United Community Church in Campbell Hill.
She was born August 19, 1958 in Pinckneyville the daughter of Philip D. and Mary L. (Rednour) Hepp.
She married
James O. Blockley in 2000 in Pinckneyville.
She is survived by her husband of Chester; her mother, Mary L. Hepp of Cutler; one son, Jonathan Philip Hopkins of Chester; one brother, James A. Hepp of Cutler; one sister, Sandra L. Denault of Percy; and five nephews and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Sunday, November 10, at the United Community Church in Campbell Hill with Pastor Kenny Owen officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 8 until 11:30 a.m. at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Percy, thence to the church.
Interment was in the Cutler cemetery in Cutler.

Susan M. Boggeman
Susan M. (Taylor) Boggeman, 49, of Safety Harbor, FL, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:50 A.M., Friday, November 15, 2002 at her residence.
Susan was a salesperson for Griffin Electrical Sales. She was the first female presidentof the DuQuoin Chamber of Commerce.
She was born January 15, 1953 at Du Quoin, IL, the daughter of Merle and Audrey (Siefert) Taylor. She married
Tom Boggeman on October 11, 1986 at the St. Johns United Church of Christ in Du Quoin and he survives.
In 1991, Susan moved from Du Quoin to Safety Harbor, FL.
She is survived by her husband of Safety Harbor, FL, children - Jason Heumann of St. Louis, MO, Robin Brenner and husband Paul of Indianapolis, IN, and John Boggeman and wife Sherry of Evansville, IN, one granddaughter - Regon Brenner, mother and stepfather - Audrey and Darol Webb of Du Quoin, and one brother - Bill Taylor and wife Tracy of Du Quoin.
She was preceded in death by her father.
A memorial service was held Monday, November 18, 2002 at 3:00 P.M. at the Global Family Fellowship at 2289 North Hercules, Clearwater, FL. Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the First Christian Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Lon McPherson and Rev. John Lewis officiating.

Interment was in the Mueller Hill cemetery at Pinckneyville, IL.
