Robert Kohlenberg -
Robert Kohlenberg, 71, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 1999. He was an accountant.
Mr. Kohlenberg is survived by his wife, Theresa Bergmann Kohlenberg, formerly of DuQuoin and two children, Dana Van Ness and Paul Kohlenberg.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Audrey Jane Lashbrook -
Audrey Jane Lashbrook, 71, formerly of Elkville, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 1999 in New Port Richey, Florida.
Mrs. Lashbrook worked as a motel manager. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in DuQuoin, Women of the Moose and AARP.
She was born March 29, 1927 in Nason, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Blanche (Holmes) Spiller. She was the wife of George E. Lashbrook. He preceded her in death.
Survivors are one son, Lonnie J. Stroud of Corvallis, OR; two daughters, Linda J. Johnson-Averbect of New Port Richey, FL and Leona K. Mattei of Seattle, WA and one brother, William Spiller of Elkville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 27, 1999 at the Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tim Pearce officiating. Interment was in Hallidayboro Cemetery in Hallidayboro, IL.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
Charles E. Peters -
Charles E. Peters, 84, of Christopher, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at Fair Acres Nursing Home in DuQuoin. Mr. Peters was a retired office clerk for Hoe Supply in Christopher.
He was born March 24, 1914 in Tilden, the son of Fred and Stella (Monteith) Peters. He married Lorain E. Park on April 15, 1933 in Vienna and she survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Sharon R. Dollus of DuQuoin and two sisters, Maxine Norris of Sun City, CA and Wilma Ryan of Marietta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles Richard Peters and one daughter, Karen Sue Toigo.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 13, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Rev. Jerry Aken officiating.
Interment was in Harrison Cemetery in Buckner.
John Alan Pierce -
John Alan Pierce, 28, of DuQuoin, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 1999 at the VA Hospital in Marion after a one and a half year battle with lung cancer.
John was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving as an electronics technician on the USS San Juan 751 Submarine.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of DuQuoin and DuQuoin American Legion Post 647. John was a 1988 graduate of DuQuoin High School.
He was born October 5, 1970 at DuQuoin, the son of Scotty and Carolyn (Gillis) Pierce.
He is survived by his parents of DuQuoin; two brothers, David Pierce and wife Robin of Tamaroa and Jay Pierce of DuQuoin; one sister, Nancy Havens and husband David of DuQuoin; maternal grandmother, Josephine Gillis of DuQuoin; paternal grandmother, Catherine Pierce of DuQuoin; three nieces and two nephews, Kristen, Melissa, Devon, Ian and Whitney and his special buddy, Moe.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruth Doerr, James Pierce and Willard Gillis.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in DuQuoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the DuQuoin American Legion Post 647.
Friends may make memorials to Lung Cancer Research or the First Baptist Church of DuQuoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
William Roy Terry -
William Roy Terry, age 97, of Pinckneyville, passed away Sunday, February 21, 1999 at 8:57 p.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Roy was born in Sunfield on December 14, 1901, the son of Will and Cora (Taylor) Terry. He married Marcella Ritter on April 2, 1923 in Murphysboro and she survives. He started work as a coal miner at the age of fourteen and worked in numerous area mines. He was a member of the Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville, the UMWA, was a horse trainer and was a member of the Horseman’s Protection and Benevolent Association.
Survivors include his wife, Marcell of Pinckneyville; one son, Kenneth Terry and wife Dolores of Pinckeyville; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; seven nieces; five nephews and a sister-in-law, Lucille Terry of DuQuoin. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brother; three sisters and a son, Bob, who was killed during World War II.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 24, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pyatt Funeral Home in Pinckneyville with Reverend James O. Mathenia officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Martin V. Finn
Martin V. Finn, 81, of DuQuoin, passed away at 12:33 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 1999 at the Skilled Care Unit of Pinckneyville Hospital.
Martin was a retired telephone repairman for General Telephone Co. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of DuQuoin, Life member of DuQuoin VFW Post 513 and a member of DuQuoin American Legion Post 647. He was a US Coast Guard Veteran of WW II.
He was born September 16, 1917 at Benton, the son of Taylor and Mae (Carr) Finn. He married Louise Pool on October 31, 1948 at Piggott, AR and she survives.
In addition to his wife of DuQuoin, he is survived by one son, Mickey Finn and wife Lynn of DuQuoin; two daughters, Rozann Rushing Boggis and husband David of Pinckneyville and Judy Mansell and husband Ron of Bloomington, IN; four grandsons; two granddaughters; four great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 20 at 11 a.m. at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
Interment was in the Herrin City Cemetery.
Friends may make memorials to the DuQuoin Dialysis Center or the First Baptist Church of DuQuoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Paul L. Martin
Paul L. Martin, retired DuQuoin businessman, died early Monday morning, March 29, 1999. Paul was born May 3, 1925 in Pinckneyville, the youngest of eleven children born to Joseph Henry and Elizabeth Surman Martin. He married Sarah Elouise Kelley on December 22, 1945 in Pinckneyville.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Elouise; daughter Pamela Haar and husband Michael of Silver Lake, Kansas; son Paul L. Martin II and wife Linda of Elkville and son Richard Martin of DuQuoin. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Christopher Haar of Quantico, VA; Erin Harries of Rossville, KS; Joshua and Kathryn Haar of Hays, KS; Matthew and Andrew Martin of Elkville and two great-grandchildren Andrew and Hallee Haar of Quantico, VA. He is survived by four sisters, Regina Bruns of Pinckneyville; Dorothy Holocek of Elkville, Frances McLuckie of DuQuoin and Margaret Woodside of Nashville, TN. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Simon, Charles, George and James and sisters Mary Surman and Theresa Mucha.
Mr. Martin was a well-known DuQuoin businessman, having owned and operated Koerner & Sons Heating and Air Conditioning for many years. His career in this trade spanned 40 years. He enjoyed quail hunting and fishing and was an avid gardener and woodworker. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus Post 1298 and the DuQuoin VFW #513. He was a Navy Veteran of WW II and served in the Pacific theatre aboard the USS Bowie APA-137.
Private funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 31 at Maxton Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Fr. Richard Daly and Msgr. Angelo Lombardo officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Perry County.
William R. “Bill” Furlow
William R. “Bill” Furlow, 55, of Vergennes, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at his residence.
Bill was a construction heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Valier. He was a member of Local 738 Laborer’s Union.
He was born September 8, 1943 at Christopher, the son of William Paul and Beatrice (Shadowens) Furlow.
He is survived by very dear friends Robin and Jacob Irvin of Vergennes; one daughter, Penny Brandalise of Sesser; two sons, William R. Furlow, Jr. of Conway, Ark. and John P. Furlow of Sesser; one sister, Paula F. Hopkins of Benton; six grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 24 at 10:00 a.m. at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin wiht Rev. Woody Wilson officiating.
Interment was in the Denning Cemetery at West Frankfort.
Friends may make memorials to the TIP Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
