Loren Dale Guy
Loren Dale Guy, age 86, of Pinckneyville, IL, died Friday, November 22, 2002 at 5:40 a.m. in the Skilled Care Unit of Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Dale was born in Pinckneyville, IL on September 27, 1916 the son of Charles N. and Maud Myrtle (Reisinger) Guy. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II serving in India and Burma. Dale worked as a painter for the former Dunn Paint Store and for Thomas Home Improvement in Pinckneyville, IL. He was saved in the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville and was a member of the Painter's Union.
Survivors include his sister, Wilma Guy of Pinckneyville, IL, a niece, Carol Poe of Wichita, KS and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Doris Guy Becker, and a brother, David Wayne Guy.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 25, 2002 in the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville, IL at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James Bush officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation was held at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Sunday, November 24, 2002 from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. and on Monday, November 25, 2002 from 8:00 a.m. till 9:30 a.m. then at the church from 10:00 a.m. till services.
Memorial donations in memory of Loren Dale Guy may be made to the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.
Sarah Anne Helvey
Sarah 'Gloria' Anne Helvey, age 64, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at her daughter's home in Gillette, Wyoming after a three-year illness.
Gloria was born on May 19, 1938 in Rice, the daughter of Claude and Velma (Miller) Hutchings. Gloria married Paul Helvey on June 15, 1957 at the Concord Baptist Church in Rice and he survives.
Up until moving to Gillette this past March, Gloria and her husband, Paul, had been volunteering for JAARS and Wycliffe Bible Translators moving missionaries, pastors and their families throughout the 50 states and Canada. They spent three years living in North Carolina during their service to the Wycliffe Bible Translators. Gloria was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church in Lancaster, South Carolina. Throughout her life she was active in the Woman's Missionary Union and acted as a leader in Girl's In Action, Acteens and as a Sunday School teacher.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Paul; two children, Jill Hampleman and her husband, Kevin, of Gillette, Wyoming and Reverend Daniel Helvey and his wife, Joanie, of Alcolu, South Carolina; five granddaughters, Courtney McLaughlin and her husband, Jade, of Gillette, Wyoming; Katie Hampleman and Abbey Hampleman, both of Gillette, Wyoming; Megan Helvey and Amy Helvey of Alcolu, South Carolina; two grandsons, Andrew Helvey and Justin Helvey of Alcolu South Carolina; three brothers, Max Hutchings and his wife, Roberta, of Mount Vernon, Jack Hutchings and his wife, Carolyn, of Pinckneyville and Randy Hutchings of Jacksonville, Florida and one sister, Mary Nehring of Pinckneyville. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Gloria in death were her parents and her sister, Charlene Dempsey and a great nephew, James Young.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 19 at the Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville at 10 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Helvey officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville.
Friends called at the Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville on Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. until services.
Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering in care of the Beaucoup Baptist Church. This offering benefits the missionaries of the Southern Baptist Convention.

June Gilbert Hill
June Gilbert Hill, age 88, died Sunday, November 3, 2002 at 12:35 p.m. in the Pinckneyville Skilled Care Unit.
June was born in rural Perry County on June 4, 1914, the son of Leslie Guy and Margaret Ellen (Schmidt) Hill. He married Alice Mae Grote on November 10, 1932 in Nashville and she preceded him in death on October 6, 2000.
He was of the Baptist faith, was an equipment operator and truck driver for the coal mines, a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 9721, an avid hunter, fisherman and avid golfer.
Survivors include four sons, Leo Edward Hill and his wife, Shirley, of Sparta, Dallas June Hill and his wife, Jean, of Red Bud, Arlen Dean Hill and his wife, Eileen, and Merle Leslie Hill and his wife, Judy, all of Pinckneyville; a daughter, Melba Ann Wolfe and her husband, Dale, of Pinckneyville; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, James Hill; granddaughter, Stephanie Hill and sister, Wilma Jones.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 8 at 11 a.m. in the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Pinckneyville with Bro. Rob Mathis officiating. Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. then at the church until services.
Memorials may be made to the Stephanie Hill Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Bonnie Holland
Bonnie Holland, 69, Christopher, passed away Monday, November 25, 2002 at 3:17 p.m. in her home.
Mrs. Holland had retired from BICC Cable in Du Quoin. She was a member of Knoff Bend Pentecostal Church in Elkville.
She was born July 29, 1933 in Elkville, the daughter of William H. and Rosa A. (Foster ) Barnes. She married Robert G. Holland and he preceded her in death on July 27, 1996.
Surviving are four children, Rose Mattingly of Energy, Robert Holland of Elkville, Michael Holland of Hurst and Tony Holland of Christopher; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Beulah Bosecker of Du Quoin and one brother, Billy Barnes of West Frankfort.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.
Funeral services were Wednesday, November 27 at 2 p.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Brother Merle Macke officiating. Interment was in Herrin City Cemetery.
Friends called at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher on Wednesday from 12 p.m. until time of service.
Elizabeth G. Howerton
Elizabeth G. Howerton, 96, of Du Quoin passed away Thursday, November 7, 2002 at 2:39 p.m. at Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.
Mrs. Howerton was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge and she was a charter member of the Du Quoin Senior Citizens.
She also enjoyed traveling, visiting her children and grandchildren and taking tours.
She was born August 13, 1906 in St. John's, IL. to Charles G. and Lilly Belle (Mills) Rudloff. She married Walter B. Howerton on June 12, 1922 and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1971.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law Helen and Fred Meyer of Elgin, Marie Carson of North City and Lorene and Jewel Lawrence of Reseda, Calif, grandchildren and their spouses Rex and Gloria Meyer, Maurice and Sheri Meyer, David and Peggy Carson, Delena and Frank Kelley, Doriene Carson, Lilly and Eddie White, Robert Johnson, James Johnson, great grandchildren and their spouses Rex Meyer, Jr., Michelle Meyer, Jennifer Meyer, Robert Meyer, Lauren Meyer, Julie and Tim Sunderland, Bart and Tammie Carson, Carrie Kelley, Robert and Rowena Keil, Monica and Mike Wilson. Great, great grandchildren Logan Carons, Jordan Carson, Jib Ray Sunderland, Jessica Sunderland, Regina Kell, Matthew and Megan Wilson. Nieces Rosilie Rudloff Green , Carrie Payne, Betty and Lyle Ernst and Marge Howerton. Nephews Raymond Hamilton and Dale Rudloff.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Mary Alberts Harris, three brothers Frank, Charles and Robert, son-in-law Olyn Carson, nieces Lila Mae Burgland, Catherine Rudloff and nephews Robert Harris, Henry "Hank" Alberts, Robert Payne, Loren Howerton and Ray Howerton.
Funeral services were Sunday, November 10, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Neal McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
Friends called at the Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

John J. Kellerman
John J. Kellerman, age 81, of Pinckneyville, died Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 10:37 a.m. in the Skilled Care Unit of Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
John was born near Oakdale on October 21, 1921, the son of August and Catherine (Todd) Kellerman. He married Ruby Smith on September 6, 1952 and she preceded him in death on February 21, 2002.
During his lifetime he served with the U.S. Army during World War II, was a construction laborer, a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville, Laborer Union #738, V.F.W. Post #3959, Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504 in Pinckneyville and the Knights of Columbus Post #2921, Pinckneyville.
Survivors include his son, Charles V. Kellerman and his wife, Kim; two grandchildren, Jonathan V. and Hannah Kellerman, all of Pinckneyville; three sisters, Ann Baudison and Rose Kellerman, both of Pinckneyville and Florence Wessels of St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Joseph Kellerman Jr.; three brothers, Anton, Eugene and James and a sister, Genieve Ruffino.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 3 at 10 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church with Fr. John Venegoni officiating. Interment was in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Cemetery, Todd's Mill. The Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504 conducted graveside military rites.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The Rosary was said at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the St. Bruno School Endowment Fund.
Violet Mae Kimmel
Violet Mae Kimmel, age 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, departed this life on November 24, 2002 in Cedar Park, Texas. She was born on February 4, 1914 the third daughter of the Reverend Noah and Julia Norris in Clay City, Illinois. Violet is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 42 years, and her three sisters, Fern, Myrtle, and June.
Violet graduated from Elkville Community High School in 1931. She was a member of numerous churches, serving the Lord her entire life. She was a member of Saint Louis Catholic Church, in Austin, Texas, at the time of her death. Violet married James Bennett Kimmel on July 3, 1933, they began their long, and full lives together that produced 3 children, 13 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She began her career at McDonald Douglas Aircraft Company in 1956 where she retired after 23 years of service. Upon her retirement in 1979, Violet made her home in Austin, Texas. Violet will be dearly missed and remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, gracious hostess, wonderful cook, and by her quick wit, who was always ready to engage in spirited conversation about religion and politics, and the lunches with her friends "The Golden Girls".
Violet is survived by her daughter, Loretta Lynne Kimmel-Cook and husband Mural of Lago Vista, Texas; sons, James Edward Kimmel and wife Jan of Cedar Creek, Texas; Larry Norman Kimmel and wife Betty of Freeburg, Illinois; granddaughters, Leslie Pees, Kim Kimmel, Heide Kimmel, Jennifer Taylor, Kristie Patterson; grandsons, Larry Norman Kimmel II, Keith Kimmel, James B. Kimmel, Dean Kimmel, Jason Edwards, Joseph Edwards, Jonathan Edwards, and John Cook; great-grandchildren, Gabe Kimmel, Sarah Kimmel, Claire Pees, Cody Pees, Cassidee Taylor, and Nicholas Taylor.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 29, 2002, at the Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating. Burial was in Elkville Cemetery.
The Neal-McClure Funeral Home in DuQuoin was in charge of arrangements.
