Lucile Nicholson Ware
Lucile Nicholson Ware, 85, of Du Quoin, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 2 p.m. in Fairview Nursing Center.
Mrs. Ware had been a Primary School Teacher and a member of First Baptist Church. She was also a member of Euzelian Sunday School class, Texas State Teachers, Corpus Christi Retired Teachers Association and a lifetime member of the NEA.
She was born July 15, 1917 at Ovett, Mississippi, the daughter of Sandy and Rennie (Davis) Nicholson. She married David Clifton Ware on August 28, 1938 at Richton, Mississippi and he preceded her in death on November 10, 1979.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Sherry Ware of Victoria, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and James Taylor of Steeleville and Marsha and Paul 'Tiny' Brock of Du Quoin; five grandchildren, Lucy Eaton and husband Jeff of Steeleville, Kathy Ware of Victoria, Tex., Sarah Brock, Stacey Brock and David Brock, all of Du Quoin; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Anne Eaton of Steeleville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Frances and Freddie Strickland of Ellisville, Miss. and a special caregiver and friend, Nancy McClannah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Froney Nicholson.
Funeral services were Sunday, February 16 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Olive Methodist Cemetery in Ovett, Miss. with Rev. Dr. Allen Woodward officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olive Methodist Cemetery in Ovett, Miss.
Friends called at the Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Friday, February 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. A brief service followed with Rev. Jerry Dunn and Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Sunfield United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Alzheimer's Association, Perry County Hospice or to the Mt. Olive Methodist Cemetery Fund.
Patsy S. Wiggins
Patsy S. (Patrish) Wiggins, 53, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:20 P.M., Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at her residence.
Patrish worked as a sales clerk. She was a member of Dowell Baptist Church.
She was born October 13, 1949 at Sparta, IL, the daughter of Ralph D. and Naomi L. (Price ) Wiggins Sr.
She is survived by four brothers - Eugene Wiggins of Marion, IL, Ralph Wiggins Jr. of Mancos, CO, Jim Wiggins of Salt Lake City, UT, and Steve Wiggins of Murphysboro, IL, four sisters - Shirley Carter of Du Quoin, IL, Kathy Larchick of Portland, OR, Frances Wiggins of Hammond, LA, and Ruth Brelan of Hammond, LA, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services were at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 8, 2003 at the Dowell Baptist Church in Dowell with Pastor Ruth Rimmer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of Southern Illinois will be accepted.
Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin was in charge of arrangements.
Jackye Bell Williams
Jackye Bell Williams, 76, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:20 A.M., Saturday, February 22, 2003 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Jackye was a retired LPN and had worked at Marshall Browning Hospital for twenty years. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary 127 Murphysboro, and AARP.
She was born December 26, 1926 at Herrin, IL, the daughter of Leo and Hazel (Grayhem) Hindman.
She married Earl Williams on September 10, 1970 at Widcliff, Kentucky and he preceded her in death in 1997.
She is survived by one daughter - Sue Greer and husband Andy of Coulterville, IL, one son - Steven Bell and wife Peg of Collierville, TN, six grandchildren - Kyle Bell, Derek Bell, Lindsay Greer, Jerrod Greer, Dylan Greer, and Kailey Greer, two brothers - Rex Hindman of Shelbyville, IN, and Raymond Hindman of Golf Breeze, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Graveside services were at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at IOOF Cemetery in Du Quoin with Rev. Raymond Baggott officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.
Those attending the services were asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Lorene M. Willis
Lorene M. Willis, 85, of Cutler, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2003 at Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Mrs. Willis had worked at the Pinckneyville Garment Factory and at Trico High School as a cook. She was a member of Loyalty Missionary Baptist Church in Eden. She participated in the Cutler Senior Citizens, which she operated for 15 years.
She was born August 20, 1917 at Pinckneyville, the daughter of Tom Davis and Ella Mae Freeman. She married John D. Conway in 1940 and he preceded her in death on August 13, 1980. She later married Fred Willis on October 29, 1990 in Paducah, Kentucky.
Surviving are her husband, Fred Willis of Cutler; two daughters, Carolyn (Husband Mike) Higgerson of Cutler and Peggy (Husband Bob) Stanton of Pinckneyville; two sons, Floyd (Wife Lila) Ashby of Percy and John (Wife AnnaMarie) Conway of Pinckneyville; one step-daughter, Darlene (Clarence) Misselhorn of Campbell Hill; one step-son, Fred Willard (Wife Susie) Willis of Norman, Indiana; three sisters, Lucille Craig of Cutler, Isabelle Langwith of Cutler and Helen Hartel of Cutler; one brother, Tommy (Wife Betty) Davis of Cutler; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband; parents; two brothers, George and Harold Davis and two sisters, Lula Sullivan and Jane Carter.
Funeral services were Monday, February 17 at 11 a.m. at Missionary Baptist Church in Eden with Rev. Tom Foster officiating. Interment was in Cutler Cemetery.
Friends called Sunday at McDaniel Funeral Home in Percy from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Monday at Loyalty Missionary Baptist Church in Eden from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Nellie Jane Barwick
Nellie Jane Barwick, 78, formerly of Sesser, passed away at 6:40 P.M., Monday, March 10, 2003 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Nellie was a retired postal worker. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mt. Vernon, IL. She was also a member of the Relief Society at the church.
She was born December 6, 1924 at Herrin, IL, the daughter of Jesse Franklin and Nell (Jones) Russell.
She married Wayne A. Barwick on February 15, 1942 at Jackson, Missouri and he preceded her in death on December 3, 1966.
She is survived by two daughters - Sharon Kay Davis and husband JD of Sesser, IL and Waynette Helm of Joelton, TN, one sister - Vesta Smith of Denver, CO, six grandchildren - DJ Davis and wife Laura of Christopher, IL, Tammy Valette and husband David of Christopher, IL, Timothy Helm and wife Vicki of Nashville, TN, Kristine Ann Helm of Kansas City, KS, Debbie Kay Helm of Nashville, TN, and Michael Wayne Helm and wife Nikki of Nashville, TN, eight great grandchildren - Hope Valette, Holly Valette, Halle Valette, Victoria Davis, Noah Jackson Davis, Candice Annette Helm, Angel Sky Minton, and Dillan Bright Helm.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one great grandson.
Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 14, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Bishop Schroeder of Mt. Vernon officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Sesser.
Dr. Robert Stevens Blakely
Dr. Robert Stevens Blakely, 68, formerly of Marion, died on Wednesday night, March 12, 2003, at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Blakely fought a rare brain disease that left him unable to speak or use his limbs in his final years. He was born on January 18, 1935, the only child of William R. and Ida (Krone) Blakely. His childhood was spent on his parents' Tamaroa farm. He attended Southern Illinois University before earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Illinois in 1959. Upon graduation, he served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He returned to Southern Illinois in 1962 and for the next 35 years, devoted his professional life to the care of animals as a veterinarian, including the founding of Central Hospital for Animals. He was a past president of the Herrin Jaycees, an active member of the American Heartworm Association, and pursued a deep commitment to the care of animals and the environment through a variety of volunteer organizations.
He is survived by two daughters and a son: Patricia Lynn and husband Remington Irwin of Simpson, Laurie Ann and husband John Thompson of Makanda, and Scott Robert Blakely of Saint Louis. Two grandsons, Raegan Conner Irwin and Robin Blakely Thompson also survive him.

Lucy D. Bowen
Lucy D. 'Doug' Bowen, 74, of Cutler, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2003 at her home.
Mrs. Bowen was a homemaker and a member of Reformed Presbyterian Church in Cutler. She was born Wednesday, March 27, 1929 in Winkle, the daughter of Frank W. Hepp Sr. and Flossie Mae Dempsay Hepp. She married Teddy G. Bowen Sr. on October 28, 1946 in Cutler and he preceded her in death on February 24, 1992.
Surviving are one son, Teddy G. 'Butch' (Teresa) Bowen Jr. of Morris; three daughters, Dana (Gussie) Tallo of Steeleville, Barbara (Sam) Macaluso of Burr Ridge and Paula Summers of Wilisville; grandchildren, Marlene and Rick Schlein, Bret Rosendohl, Terry and Valerie Nagel, Carl and Lisa Saul, Sammy, Jeremy and Julie Macaluso, Garrett 'Cody' Summers and Kylee Summers; great-grandchildren, Richard, Emily and Angela Schulein, Kassandra 'Casey' Nagel and Joelle Saul; five step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; five brothers, Wayne Hepp of Campbell Hill, Frank Hepp Jr. of Cutler, Ralph Hepp of Willisville, Denny Hepp of Freeburg and Larry Hepp of Willisville and two sisters, Wanda Rednour, Du Quoin and Minta Hepp of Willisville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one grandson.
Funeral services were Sunday, March 30 at 2 p.m. at Reformed Presbyterian Church in Cutler with Rev. Mike Higgerson officiating. Interment was in Cutler City Cemetery.
Friends called at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville after 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 7:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Sunday, then from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the American Cancer Society.
