Virgil Paul Lindner
Virgil Paul Lindner, 75, of Du Quoin, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Lindner was a retired Coal Miner form Consolidated Inland Mine #1 and a member of the UMWA. He was a member of Assembly of God Church.
Mr. Lindner was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was born February 18, 1928 in Du Quoin, the son of John and Lena Mary (Schleuter) Lindner. He married Rosa Brayfield on August 30, 1957 in Du Quoin.
Surviving are his wife, Rosa Lindner of Du Quoin; two sons, Steve (Marat) Lindner of Green belt, Md. and Eric (Cathy) Lindner of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; two daughters, Sharon (George) Foster of Du Quoin and Jana (Mark) Cornell of Matoon; one brother, John (Floy) Lindner of Du Quoin; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 26 at 10 a.m. at Maxton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wesley Cornell officiating. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery in Du Quoin.
Friends called after 6 p.m. Friday at Maxton Funeral Chapel.
Clara W. Liska
Clara W. Liska, 92, of Du Quoin, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2003 at 5:15 a.m. in the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.
Services were Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. at the Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel in Du Quoin with Rev. C.L. McKinnies officiating.
Visitation was from 9 a.m. until time of service on Sunday.
Burial was in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
She was a machine operator for Cleaning Co. and a member of the United Methodist Church in Hallidayboro.
She was born January 14, 1911 in Du Quoin, IL. to Jacob and Clara (Seibert) Wooldridge. She married John Liska, Jr. on September 9, 1929 in Du Quoin. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1978.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Rees Quinn of Paducah, KY.; one granddaughter, Sherry Rees Mitchell of Grafton, MA.; and six great grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Geraldine Mae McDonnough
Geraldine Mae McDonnough, age 84, of Washington, Ill., formerly of Pinckneyville, died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 8:50 a.m. in the Washington Christian Village in Washington.
Geraldine was born in Pinckneyville on July 26, 1918, a daughter of Ferdinand and Estella Mae (Mandy) Thornton. She married Milton C. McDonnough on July 27, 1935 and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1960.
During her lifetime she was a homemaker, a Nurses Aide at Elgin State Hospital, a member of the Pinckneyville Eastern Star for more than 50 years and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Canton.
Survivors include a son, Melvin Herschel McDonnough and his wife, Beverly, of Creve Coeur; a brother, Ardell Thornton of Herrin; two sisters, Elsie Blair and Augusta Thomas, both of Pinckneyville; a half-sister, Deanna Anderson of Washington; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son in infancy; a daughter in infancy; a daughter, Carolyn Marinich; a brother, Herschel and two sisters, Edna Harriss and Mabel Livingston.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m. in the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville with Bro. Mark Lee officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Juanita Miller
Juanita Miller, age 88, of Wynne, Arkansas, formerly of Pinckneyville, died Sunday, April 6, 2003 in her home.
Juanita was born in Cutler on March 7, 1915, a daughter of Bert and Helen (Hess) Freeman. She married Elmer A. Miller on October 17, 1932 and he preceded her in death on February 24, 1981.
Juanita was a homemaker, enjoyed quilt making, traveling, was a seamstress at the former Pinckneyville Garment Factory, a member of Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville and the International Ladies Garment Worker's Union.
Survivors include a son, Melvin D. Miller and his wife, Carol, of Alpina, Michigan; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Gene.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 9 at 9 a.m. in Beaucoup Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, with Rev. Randy Plunkett officiating. Interment was in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Tuesday from 6 until 9 p.m. and then at the church on Wednesday from 8 until 9 a.m.
Geroge T. Purcell
George T. Purcell, 70, of St. Johns, passed away Friday, April 11, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. in his home.
Mr. Purcell was the retired Manager of the Drivers License Facility in Pinckneyville. He was born October 1, 1932 in Du Quoin, the son of Henry E. and Lyla (Elledge) Purcell. He married Nobue 'YoYo' Tsutsui on December 9, 1955 in Tokyo, Japan.
Surviving are his wife, YoYo; one son and daughter-in-law, George and Darrie Purcell of Du Quoin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lyla and Bruce Queen of Cabit, Arkansas and Sherry and Shannon Raines of Du Quoin; brothers, Henry Purcell of Oakridge, Tennessee, William Purcell of Centralia, Robert Purcell of Fort Worth, Texas and Roger Rosan of Detroit, Michigan; half-brothers, Eugene Wisely of St. Louis, Mo. and Harold Wisely of St. Louis, Mo. and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Funeral services were Wednesday, April 16 at 1 p.m. at Neal-McClure Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jackie Davison officiating. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery in Du Quoin.
Friends called Wednesday at Neal-McClure Funeral Home from 12 p.m. until time of services.

Leona M. Rainwater
Leona M. Rainwater, 88, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:35 P.M., Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Leona had worked as a florist at Erwin's and Krogers. She was a member of Tamaroa Community Church and Du Quoin Eastern Star Lodge 395.
She was born November 13, 1914 at Tamaroa, IL, the daughter of Howard and Mary Ann (Lemmons) Sronce.
She married Fred O. Rainwater on March 30, 1933 at Mt. Vernon, IL and he preceded her in death on July 29, 1997.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 2, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Gordon Robison
Gordon Robison, 69, of Hurst, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Mr. Robison had retired as a truck driver from Grady Dryden Trucking Co. in Hurst after 32 years. He was a member of Christian Church in Hurst. Mr. Robison enjoyed woodworking, fishing and his grandchildren.
He was born April 13, 1933 in Thebes, the son of Loran and Stella Murray Robison. He married Nina Lee Hicks on May 24, 1952 in Piggott, Arkansas.
Surviving are his wife of Hurst; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Betty Robison of Lafayette, Indiana; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Sam DeMarie of Du Quoin; son and daughter-in-law, David and Dale Robison of Herrin; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Stephen Sloan of Galatia; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Greg Robinson of Bush; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Billie Robison of Hurst; sister-in-law, Gloria Stewart of Hurst; brother-in-law, Ralph Lohman of Steeleville and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a special niece, Karen Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gordon Wayne Robison and brother, Clifton Robison.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 8 at 11 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Hurst with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Interment was in Blairsville Cemetery in Blairsville.
