Billie R. Woodsides
Billie R. Woodsides, 72, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:05 P.M., Sunday, April 27, 2003 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Billie had worked as a locomotive engineer for Illinois Central Railroad. He was a Christian and a member of Old Du Quoin Baptist Church. He was a member of Du Quoin Masonic Lodge, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and the Men's Sunday School Class at Old Du Quoin Baptist Church. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was born February 10, 1931 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Carl and Cora (Wright) Woodsides.
He married Reba Mae Williams on November 28, 1958 at Dowell, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one daughter - Karla Kloss and husband Mark of Staunton, IL, three grandsons - Joseph, Thomas, and John Kloss, two brothers - Donald Woodsides of Du Quoin and Gerald Woodsides of Elkville and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M., Wednesday at the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church.
Interment was in the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville.
Friends may make memorials to the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church Building Fund.

Edith Janette Atwood
Edith Janette Atwood, 77, of 602 E. Jackson Street, DuQuoin, Illinois,
formerly of Royalton, died at 12:20 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2003 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.
Edith was born September 5, 1925 in West Frankfort to Grover and Janette "Nettie" (Harris) Rainey.
She married Troy Lon Atwood September 29, 1948. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son-in-law and his wife, Rolla C. "Sonny" and Martha Moyers of DuQuoin; two grandchildren, Emalie B. King of Effingham and Corey J. Taylor of Memphis, Tennessee and a niece, Judith Needham of Morris.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Janet Kay Moyers who died July 5, 2001, a grandchild, a sister and a brother.
Edith was a member of the Third Baptist Church in West Frankfort, the Zeigler Eagles Lodge, Zeigler American Legion, and DAV Auxiliaries.
Graveside memorial services for Mrs. Atwood were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2003 at Denning Cemetery in Orient with Brother Larry Hallman officiating. Family and friends were asked to meet at the cemetery.
Vantrease Funeral Homes, Inc. of Zeigler and Royalton was in charge of the arrangements.

Gilbert Dale Bigham
Gilbert Dale Bigham, formerly of Pinckneyville, passed away at his home in Del Rio, Texas May 3, 2003 at the age of 74 years.
He was born in Pinckneyville February 14, 1929, the son of Gilbert and Zoe (Trefftzs) Bigham. Upon discharge from the U.S. Army he worked for the Monroe Co. on Calculating and Printing until his retirement a few years ago.
Surviving are two sons, Guy and Max; one sister, Mary Hinman of Yorkville; two brothers, Frank Bigham and his wife Lillian of Pinckneyville and Harold Bigham and his wife Margo of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Agnas Bigham of Phoenix, Ariz.; a very special friend, Mary Doggotte of Catlin and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harry and James and one sister, Ethel Kurrelmeyer.
Memorial graveside services were held by the American Legion Post at the Galum Presbyterian Cemetery on May 23 at 10 a.m. with Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in charge.
Anyone wishing to attend was asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice or to the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home for the family.

George Daniel Brown
George Daniel (Dan) Brown, 51, of Sesser, passed away at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Mr. Brown was a Dispatcher at Central Dispatch in Christopher.
He was born October 3, 1951 in Christopher, the son of George Dallas Brown and Mary Victoria (Shepard) Brown. He married Sandra Kay Brown on January 29, 1982 and she survives.
Surviving are two children, Wendy Jo Brown of Christopher and Richard Alan Brown of Osawatomie, Kansas and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, May 16 at 1 p.m. at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser with Bro. Tim Melvin officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Sesser.
Friends called at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to a scholarship fund for daughter, Wendy.

Julia Aline Coffel
Julia Aline Coffel, 91 of Antioch, California, formerly of Du Quoin passed away Monday, April 28, 2003 in Concord, CA.
Mrs. Coffel had been a school teacher and a member of First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. She was also a member of Gold Plate.
She was born February 8, 1912 in Pinckneyville, the daughter of Lyle and Julia Adeline (Harriss) Miller. She married Edward E. Coffel on August 2, 1932 at Nashville and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1992.
Surviving are one son, Jerry Coffel of Antioch, Calif. and one daughter-in-law, Mary Coffel McCollum of Du Quoin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Edward.
Funeral services were Monday, May 5 at 2 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
Friends called Sunday, May 4 from 2 t 8 p.m. and Monday from 8:30 a.m. until time of service at Neal-McClure Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Richard E. Eyre
Richard E. "Gene" Eyre, 68 of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:49 P.M., Friday, May 9, 2003 at the VA Hospital in Marion.
Gene was a retired US Navy veteran after 20 years of service and a retired Inspector for the Department of Defense after 22 years of service.
He was of the protestant faith and a member of the Du Quoin VFW Post 513 , Du Quoin American Legion Post 647, Du Quoin Elks, Du Quoin Eagles, Masonic Lodge and Shrine of Florida and the DAV.
Gene enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
He was born February 28, 1935 at Du Quoin, IL the son of Richard "Scotty" and Juanita (Cook) Eyre.
He married Liddy Babe Mathisen on July 28, 1962 at Islamorada, FL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, sons- Martin Holtsberg of Oklahoma City, OK, Daniel Mark Sagraves of Ft. McCoy, FL, two sisters- Charlotte Mangin of Du Quoin, Nancy Profitt of Du Quoin, three grandchildren- Chris and Lindsay Holtsberg of Oklahoma City, OK, Dana Sagraves of Ft. McCoy, FL, two great grandchildren- Tyler and Ryan, sister-in-law- Josephine Briendthal of Vanse, Norway, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother- Jessie Eyre.
Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with VFW State Chaplin Jackie Davison officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery in Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites were conducted by the Du Quoin VFW Post 513 and Du Quoin American Legion Post 647.
