Lida Pearl Taylor
Lida Pearl Lisenby Taylor, 85, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Tamaroa, passed away at 11:55A.M., Saturday, May 24, 2003 at her residence.
She was retired in 1968 as an English and Latin teacher at the Du Quoin High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church at Du Quoin, an SIU graduate and she was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Perry County and Jefferson County.
She was born on March 14, 1918 at Tamaroa, Illinois, the daughter of Waldo Ray and Emma Pearl (Eaton) Lisenby.
She married Logan Taylor February 24, 1943 at Ste. Genevieve, MO. He passed away July 12, 1998.
She is survived by a daughter-Cindy Rice and husband Steve of Mt. Vernon, 2 grandsons-Jason Rice of Park City, Utah, and Bryan Rice of Fort Collins, Colorado, one sister-Rowena Stone of Denver, CO, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister-Ceola Lee.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Ken Dean officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 PM Monday, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Tamaroa Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Lida Taylor Memorial fund for future educators scholarships.
Margaret Elizabeth Taylor
Margaret Elizabeth Taylor, 76, of Du Quoin, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2003 at 8:45 p.m. at Marshall Browning Hospital.
Ms. Taylor had been a Dietitian at Marshall Browning Hospital. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She was born August 11, 1926 in Perry County, the daughter of Joseph and Cecile (Sisney) Appino.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Debby Helmer of Du Quoin, Danny and Carmen Helmer of Du Quoin and John and Beth Helmer of Du Quoin; two daughters, Nancy Sheehan of du Quoin and Lori Helmer of Du Quoin; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ms. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin.
Neal-McClure Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. There was no public visitation.
Catherine L. Ott Foltz Watson
Catherine L. Ott Foltz Watson, 86, of Du Quoin, was received by the heavenly host at 6:20 A.M., Sunday, May 18, 2003.
She was born May 23, 1916 in Centralia, IL, the daughter of Charles and Sadie (Maddox) Ott. She was the loving wife of Reverend Wallace Watson and he preceded her in death on May 28, 2000.
She is survived by two sons - James and Pricilla Foltz of Elettsvile, Indiana, and Charles Foltz of Fort Myers, Florida, one daughter - Sandra and Roger Von Lanken of Du Quoin, one step-son - Robert W. and Mary Jo Watson Jr. of Hutsonville, Illinois, one step-daughter - Myrna and Tom Phillippe of Robinson, Illinois, nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, and one step great great grandchild, brother - James E. Ott of Parhump,Nevada, and sister - Peggy A. Fuller of San Antonio, Texas.
Catherine was a member of Light of the Lamb Family Church, loved to care for her home and she loved roses.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers - Marion (Buster), Kenneth C., and Robert E. Ott.
Graveside services were held in celebration of her life at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin, with Pastor Roger and Pastor Sandra Von Lanken officiating.
Those attending the service were asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Sharon L. Wigton
Sharon L. Wigton, 71, of Oberlin, Ohio, died Monday, April 28, 2003 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, Ohio, following a brief illness.
She was born June 19, 1931 in Du Quoin, the daughter of Lem and Nell Hill Womack. She attended Du Quoin High School and in 1949 was Illinois State Champion Baton Twirler. She graduated from Southern Illinois University.
Mrs. Wigton was employed for 28 years at the former Gilford Instrument Laboratories in Oberlin, retiring in 1992 as International Export Manager.
After retiring, she enjoyed traveling in her RV with her shitzu dog to 48 of 50 states. Mrs. Wigton was a member of the RV organization's SKP's and Loners on Wheels. She attended Christ Episcopal Church, Oberlin, Ohio.
Her parents preceded her in death. Survivors include her sons, William (Chip) Wigton of Oberlin, Todd L. Wigton of Amherst, Ohio and David Peters of Williamson, Georgia; daughter, Amy E. Wigton of San Francisco, California and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the home of Nancy Yood, 355 Edgemeer Place, Oberlin. Private burial was later. Cowing Funeral Home, Oberlin, handled the arrangements.
Wilma I. Wright
Wilma I. Wright, age 89, of Pinckneyville, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tuscon, Arizona.
Wilma was born in Pinckneyville July 13, 1913, the daughter of Joseph and Pearl (Carter) Giacomo. Wilma was united in marriage to Luther L. Wright march 11, 1928 in Belleville and he preceded her in death March 10, 1974. Wilma was a homemaker, enjoyed crocheting and embroidery and was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Pincknevyille.
Wilma is survived by three sons, Lloyd Wright and wife Lorraine of Urbana, Jack Wright and wife Darlene of Tuscon, Arizona and Gary Wright and wife Linda of Gray, Tennesee; two daughters, Gladys Williams and husband Bob of Pinckneyville and Wanda McNeely and husband Vaughn of Tuscon, Arizona; two brothers, John Giacomo and wife Alice and Nelson Giacomo and wife Harriet, both of Pinckneyville; two sisters, Dorene Lueker and Virginia Higgerson, both of Pinckneyville; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Roger Wright; one brother, Joseph Giacomo; two sisters, Grace Hubler and Zelma Miller; two brothers and two sisters in infancy and a granddaughter, Debbie Bauersachs.
Funeral services were Wednesday morning, May 7, 2003 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, at 10 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville.
Friends called Tuesday evening at the church from 6 until 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. until services.
Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville.
Elmo H. Ahlers
Elmo H. Ahlers, 89, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:08 P.M., Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Elmo had worked at Turco Manufacturing in maintenance and had retired on April 1, 1981. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Du Quoin.
He was born August 15, 1913 at Pinckneyville, IL, the son of Herman and Cora (Bennett) Ahlers.
He married Earnestine M. Pugh on January 4, 1936 at Nashville, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one son - James J. Ahlers and wife Sandra of Bowling Green , KY, one daughter - Billie G. Davis and husband Michael of St. Charles, MO, grandchildren - Brett Ahlers and wife Vicki of Alvaton, KY, Jim Ahlers and wife Jenny of Bowling Green , KY, Dawn Emert and husband Dion of Alvaton, KY, Julie Ahlers of Bowling Green , KY, Kevin Davis and wife Trina of Plains View, TN, and Mark Davis and wife Michelle of Kirkwood, MO, great grandchildren - Jacob Davis of Plains View, TN, Heather La Rae Davis of Plains View, TN, Adam James Ahlers of Bowling Green , KY, and Morgan Ann Ahlers of Bowling Green , KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, one half brother and one half sister.
Funeral services were at Noon, Friday, June 20, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Steve Bareis officiating.
Friends called from 10:00 A.M. to Noon, Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
