Ceceilia Crawford
Cecelia Crawford, (sister of late Golda McLemore), formerly of Du Quoin, died July 2, 2003 at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.
Ms. Crawford was born in Amite, Louisiana on March 3, 1910. Her family moved to Du Quoin in the early 1920's, where she resided until she was a young adult. She then relocated to Chicago, Illinois. Cecelia worked and lived in Chicago until January 2003, when her health prevented her from living alone. Cecelia moved to Evanston and was a resident of the St. Francis Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother and sister.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Mamie Kelly of Energy, Mary Taylor of Evanston, Douglas (Janice) Kelly of St. Louis, Mo., Leon (Lindell) Kelly of Du Quoin, Robert (Jackie) Kelly of Anchorage, Alaska and a host of grand, great-grand nieces and nephews, devoted cousins and friends.
Visitation and services were Saturday, July 12 at the St. Paul Baptist Church, 126 N. Linden, Du Quoin. Visitation was from 10 to 11 a.m. and services are from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Elder Robert Kelly and Rev. Leon Kelly officiated.
Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery in Du Quoin.
Professional services were by Algee's Funeral Home of Carbondale.

Lester Lowell Crites
Lester Lowell Crites, 92, of Du Quoin, IL, formerly of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 3:15 A.M., Monday, July 14, 2003 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, IL.
Lester was a retired farmer and had also worked as a construction supervisor of bridge construction for the state of Illinois. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #681 and a Shriner.
He was born February 5, 1911 at Wayne County, IL, the son of George August and Minnie (Egbert) Crites.
He married Audenia Hall on June 8, 1940 at Taylorville, IL and she preceded him in death on June 1, 1987.
He is survived by two daughters - Nancy Crites Pestka and husband John of Du Quoin, IL, and Judith Wright and husband Gary of Tyler, TX, one sister-in-law - Georgia (Mel) Forbes of Morrisonville, IL, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter - Carolyn, one brother - Glenn Crites and one sister - Beulah.
Graveside services were at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Morrisonville Cemetery at Morrisonville, IL with Douglas Bates, Lester's grandson, officiating.
Those attending the service were asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, IL was in charge of arrangements.
Interment was in the Morrisonville Cemetery at Morrisonville, IL.

Larry Wayne Ernst Jr.
Larry Wayne Ernst Jr., 38, of Arroyo Grande, California, formerly of Canton, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 11, 2003 at 8 a.m. in Pismo Beach, California.
Mr. Ernst was a Veterinarian Assistant in Pismo Beach, California. He was a 1982 graduate of Canton High School.
He was born November 11, 1964 in Albany, Georgia. Surviving are his parents, Larry Wayne Ernst Sr., Elizabeth (Thomas) Ernst and Joyce (Stephens) Haacke.
He married Jessica Zimmerman on May 3, 1986 in Canton and she survives.
Also surviving are his son, Matthew Ernst of Elk Grove, California; daughter, Jordan Ernst of Elk Grove, California; grandparents, Oscar and Irene Ernst of Canton, Evelyn Chaney of Dunfermline, Bill Stephens of Springfield and Edgar & JoAnn Thomas Jr. of Canton; sisters, Angel Ernst of Glasford, Samantha (Rodger) Hallberg of Moline and Michelle (Brendan) Holquin of Arroya Grande, California.
Visitation was held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with cremation rites following. Burial of ashes will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Educational Fund c/o Wells Fargo Bank.

Phyllis P. Flanagan
Phyllis P. Flanagan, 76, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:00 A.M., Thursday, July 24, 2003 at her residence.
Phyllis traveled throughout Southern Illinois auditing and establishing agents for Western Union and worked out of the Mt. Vernon office. She was of the Christian faith. She was an avid bridge player and member of ACBL.
She was born November 6, 1926 at Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas P. and Flora Dean (Moncel) Flanagan.
She is survived by one sister - Rosemary Combes of Washington, IL, close friend of the family - Norma Tufford of Du Quoin, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Memorial services were held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, August 2, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gerald Wright officiating.
Interment was in the Westlawn Memorial Park at Newton, IL.
Friends may make memorials to the Luke Memorial Hospice.

Patricia Jean Kujawa
Patricia Jean (Hamm) Kujawa died at 10:30 a.m. July 17, 2003 at home after battling breast cancer for a year and a half.
She was born in Du Quoin on June 24, 1941 to George Bart Hamm and Eva (Franks) Hamm. She lived in Pinckneyville then moved to Rockford at age 10 and has lived in Rockford for 38 of her 62 years. She was married to George Kujawa on September 27, 1962 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church by Father Gordon.
She was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Rockford. She was employed by Solomon-Smith Barney as an Executive Assistant and an Account Executive Supervisor Assistant.
She is survived by her husband, George E. Kujawa; her mother, Eva Hamm and cousins, Randall K. Hamm and Peggy (Hamm) Diegel. She was preceded in death by her father, George Bart Hamm; maternal grandparents, Walter and Pearl (Lazenby) Franks and paternal grandparents, George and Hazel (Bart) Hamm.
Funeral mass was held on Saturday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Rita's Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Kobbeman officiating. Visitation wias held on Friday, July 18 at Fitzgerald & Associates Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary service to be recited at 5:45. Visitation continued on Saturday at church one hour prior to the Mass. A graveside memorial and prayer service were conducted at St. Bruno's Cemetery by Rev. Richard G. Mohr in Pinckneyville at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 21.

Eileen Marlow
Eileen Marlow, 95, of Tamaroa, passed away at 9:22 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2003 at the Pinckneyville Skilled Care Unit.
Mrs. Marlow had been employed at a feed Store and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Tamaroa.
She was born September 3, 1907 in Du Quoin, the daughter of Shalon Alexander and Laura (Wright) Anderson. She married Stanley M. Marlow on August 18, 1935 at Salem and he preceded her in death on April 29, 1996.
Surviving are one son, Terry Wayne Marlow of Cahokia and one brother, Robert Anderson of Pekin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Susan Ann Marlow; four brothers and one sister.
Graveside funeral services were Tuesday, July 29 at 11 a.m. at Tamaroa City Cemetery with burial following.
Private visitation was held at the Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. for family and close friends.
The family requested that no flowers be sent. Memorials may be made to the Tamaroa Cemetery Association.

John McCollum
John 'Tom' McCollum, 92, of Forsyth, Ill., died at 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2003 in McKinley Court.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.
Burial was in Two Mile Grove Cemetery in Latham.
Memorials may be made to Forsyth United Methodist Church.
John was born December 27, 1910 in Du Quoin, the son of Guy and Pearl (Thompson) McCollum. He married Virginia Waddell in 1936.
He graduated from Du Quoin High School in 1928, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1934 to 1937 and retired from A.E. Staley Company in 1972 after 33 years. He was a member of the Forsyth United Methodist Church, life member of the National Civilian Conservation Corps Association, life member of Elks BPOE 401 and Staley Retirement Club. He was an avid gardener, bowler, fisherman and Cardinal fan.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years; two daughters, Janet Brunner and husband Vernon Jr. of Forsyth, Sharon Tolliver and husband Richard of Flora; three grandchildren, Jill Zelhart and husband John of Maroa, Chris Brunner and wife Robbin of Oreana and Nathan Brunner and fiancee, Shawna Jensen, of Springfield; three step-grandchildren, Tiffany Julius and husband Kent of Frisco, Texas, Courtney Tolliver of Flora, Jordan Tolliver of Flora and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one grandchild.
