Edward T. Koss
Edward T. Koss, age 80, of Pinckneyville, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 1999 in the Veteran’s Nursing Home Outpatient Clinic in Marion, IL.
Edward was born on October 16, 1918 in Tamaroa, the son of John and Agnes (Rulevish) Koss. He married Loraine Hayes in 1951 in Ava, IL and she preceded him in death on April 8, 1999. Ed served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked for Illinois Central Rail Road and Construction. He was a also a member of the St. Bruno Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Mason, husband Roger and children, David, Krista and Alicia, all of Energy, IL and one sister, Helen Shumaker of Tamaroa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers, Leonard and George.
Funeral services were held at the Pyatt Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Saturday, June 5 at 11 a.m. with Father John Venegoni officiating. Interment was in the St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Graveside Military rites will be performed by the Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post 2504.
Goldma Mae Cox
Golda Mae Cox, 80, of Carterville, passed away Saturday, June 19, 1999 at 1:45 a.m. at her home.
Mrs. Cox was born June 6, 1919 in Williamson County, the daughter of Minus Laffoon and Rachel Payne. She married Loyd Cox on October 31, 1934 in Williamson County and he preceded her in death in October 1976.
Golda was a homemaker and retired in 1985 from the Olin Corporation after 15 years of service. She also was a member of the Cottage Home Baptist Church. Golda enjoyed quilting and working with crafts. Golda enjoyed doing things for her family, neighbors and friends.
Surviving are five daughters, Florence and Richard Spiller of Elkville, Linda Merrell of Carterville, Carol and Crandle Groves of Carbondale, Yvonne and Daryl McGlashen of Brenham, TX and Sandra and JIm Gawlik of Charleston, SC; one son, James T. and Vicki Cox of Houston, TX; two sisters-in-law, Lola Caliper of Colp and Jerri Laffoon of Carterville; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and many caring nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Lloyd Cox; two grandsons, Eric Morris and Harold Bush; two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 22 at 10 a.m. at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville with Rev. Dorothy Cook officiating. Interment was in DeSoto City Cemetery.
Leslie E. Cook
Leslie E. Cook, 76, of DuQuoin, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 1999 at his residence.
Leslie was a retired self-employed trucker. He was a US Navy Veteran of WW II. He was a life member of the DuQuoin VFW Post 513 and a member of the DuQuoin Oddfellows Lodge.
He was born March 10, 1923 at DuQuoin, the son of William C. and Della May (Triplett) Cook. He married Hilda M. Palmer on October 27, 1946 at Morganfield, KY and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of DuQuoin; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 24, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Wallace Watson officiating.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military Graveside rites were conducted by the DuQuoin VFW Post 513.
Edna Dorothy Conley
Edna Dorothy Conley, 79, of Steeleville, passed away at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 1999 at Sparta Community Hospital. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Conley was born Tuesday, January 6, 1920 at DuQuoin, the daughter of Jacob Neville and Matilda Stanley. She married Lawrence Conley on August 17, 1940 at Cape Girardeau, MO and he preceded her in death on January 7, 1968.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna and Harold Frederking of Steeleville and Dorothy Adcock of DuQuoin; two sons, Lawrence E. and Marsha Conley of Elkville and Clarence W. Conley of DuQuoin; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, one granddaughter, one grandson and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were Monday, June 7 at 1 p.m. at Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville with Rev. Billy D. Pendergrass officiating. Interment was in Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville.
Edna C. Calvin
Edna C. Calvin, 81, of Ashley, departed this life Tuesday, June 29, 1999 at 11:30 a.m. at her residence.
Mrs. Calvin was born April 8, 1918 at Mounds, the daughter of Joseph Schuler and Iasbelle Atherton Marchbanks. She was united in marriage to George Woodrow Calvin on June 19, 1937 in Mounds and he preceded her in death in May of 1954.
Mrs. Calvin was a homemaker and attended the Ashley United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Ashley Senior Citizens.
Left to mourn her passing is one sister, Sue Grigg and husband William of Mt. Vernon; two nephews, Sean Grigg and David Chandler and a niece, Mary Elizabeth Wallace.
In addition to her husband, Woodrow, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Barbara Jean Calvin and a sister, Charlene Chandler.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 2, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the Campagna Funeral Home in Ashley with Rev. Chuck Trent officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Pulaski, IL.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the donors choice and will be received at the funeral home.
Mary Arganbright
Mary Arganbright passed away at 9:18 a.m. Sunday, June 20, 1999 at Manor Care Health Services in Decatur. The daughter of the late G.W. & Constance (Hiller) Allen of Du Quoin, Mary Arganbright was a sister to the late Virginia Croessman of Du Quoin and Eugene Allen of Colorado Springs.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home.
Graveside service was at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Decatur Memorial Hospital Hospice Program.
Mrs. Arganbright was a member of the Central Christian Church and was a graduate of Mac Murray College. She married Dr. Ray Arganbright November 6, 1947.
Survivors include her husband; daughters Jane Pifer of Signal Mt., TN., Jean Long of Galesburg, Ill. and Barbara Blanton of Dunlap, Ill. and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Joseph Arganbright and a grandson, Jonathon Pifer.
Marion N. Nickens
Marion N. Nickens, 82, of Tamaroa, passed away at 4:12 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 1999 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.
Marion was retired from MOPAC Railroad and from Turco Mfg. as a Tool & Die man. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tamaroa and served the church as a Deacon. He was a member of the Tamaroa American Legion and the DuQuoin VFW. He was a US Army veteran of WW II.
He was born November 29, 1916 at Tamaroa, the son of Thomas and Bessie (Huffstutler) Nickens. He married Norma A. Corgan on November 14, 1943 at Tamaroa and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa; one daughter, Carole Moody of Pinckneyville; one son, Fred L. Nickens of DuQuoin; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Rev. Raymond Baggott officiating.
Interment was in the Tamaroa Cemetery.
Graveside military rites were conducted by the Tamaroa American Legion.
Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church of Tamaroa and will be accepted at the funeral home.
