Elijah Dale Neal
Elijah Dale Neal, five months old, of Du Quoin, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at 11:10 p.m. in Marshall Browning Hospital.
Elijah was born January 22, 2003 in Carbondale, the son of Roger Dale and Cindy Rae (Miller) Neal.
Surviving are his parents; one brother, William James Neal of Du Quoin; three sisters, Michelle, Jessica and Andrea Neal; paternal grandparents, Bill Neal and Mary Neal and maternal grandmother, Donna Miller.
He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents, Bus and Margie Neal and maternal great-grandmother, Helen Cowley.
Funeral services were Friday, July 11 at 10 a.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Pastor Percy Pavloff officiating. Interment was in Little Vine Cemetery at Tamaroa.
Friends called at the Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Friday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Devona Rathke
Devona Rathke, 88, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:15 A.M., Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.
Devona was a homemaker and had also worked as a NYA typist/clerk at Woolworth's. She was a lifelong resident of Du Quoin and a graduate of Du Quoin Township High School. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin.
She was born July 12, 1914 at Du Quoin, the daughter of Charles Oscar and Frances (Murphy) Sharp.
She married Alois I. Rathke on February 10, 1938 at Perryville, Missouri and he preceded her in death on September 17, 1986.
She is survived by two daughter - Marian Rathke-Whitson of Du Quoin and Patricia Peek of Champaign, IL, one sister - Arvilla Daum of Marion, IL and one brother - William Sharp of Du Quoin, and two granddaughters - Jennifer Wylie and Jaclyn Peek, both of Chicago, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother - Raymond Sharp.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 3, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating.
Friends called from 5:30 to 8 P.M., Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Rosary was prayed at 9:30 A.M., Thursday at the funeral home by Msgr. Harry Jerome.
Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Mary Lou Davis Red
Mary Lou Davis Red, 75, of Polk City, Iowa, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away on July 14, 2003. She had been a diabetic for several years.
She was born September 16, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa. She is survived by two nephews, Burley and Mark Davis and two nieces, Chris Westberg and Marla Seals. She is also survived by several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mary Lou used to work at the former Rude's Shoe Store, which is now Riggio's Shoe Box. She left the Du Quoin area around 1978.
She was previously married to Jim Red. She attended the Methodist Church while in Du Quoin. She also belonged to the Monday Night Women's Bowling League and was a member of the A-WA-WE-GO Camping Club.
Mary Lou requested that she have no funeral visitation and that she be cremated. Her wishes were carried out by her family.
Mary Lou will be remembered by her friends, Audrey Cook, Debbie Waller and Deanna and Mike Boyd and their families.
Raymond D. Reynolds
Raymond D. Reynolds, 85, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:55 A.M., Saturday, July 5, 2003 at the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.
Raymond was a retired painter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin and the Anglers Sunday School Class at the church. He was a US Air Force veteran of W. W. II.
He was born October 30, 1917 at Du Quoin, IL the son of Harry and Edith (Pflanz) Reynolds Sr.
He married Velma Daily Buskohl on April 5, 1986 at Du Quoin, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, daughter- Karen Yazell of Taylorville, IL, step-daughter- Johanna Shaw of Pinckneyville, IL, sister- Ruth Ullrich of Rockwood, MI, three granddaughters and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Harry Jr. and Jim, one sister- Laverne and one grandson.
Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M., Monday, July 7, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Steve Bareis officiating.
Friends called from 1 to 2 P.M. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Fair View Nursing Center or to Fair Acres Nursing Home.
Clara Mae Ryan
Clara Mae Ryan, 58, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003 at her residence in Du Quoin.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin with Reverend Ronny Woodward and Reverend Neomi Carter officiating. Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16 at the funeral home.
Clara Mae was born on December 1, 1944 in Anna to Richard 'Dick' and Velda Mae (Maze) Shelton. She married David W. Ryan on April 1, 1972 in Granite City and he survives.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Donny Ryan of Carbondale; one daughter, Angela (Ryan) Berry of Huston, Tex.; three grandchildren, Angel, Felisha and Schawn Berry of Huston, Tex.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Bobby Richardson of Bush and Pam and Rusty Melvin of Sikeston, MO.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Debra Shelton of Herrin and Frank and Marilyn Shelton of Michigan and a host of family and friends.
Clara Mae was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lloyd and Robert Shelton.
She will be deeply missed.
Stanley F. Wesolak
Stanley F. Wesolak, 89, of Scheller, passed away at 2:37 A.M., Sunday, July 20, 2003 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital in Pinckneyville.
Stanley was a retired farmer. He was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church Du Bois, Du Bois Knights of Columbus and the Teamsters Union.
He was born August 4, 1913 at Scheller, IL the son of John and Frances (Michalski) Wesolak.
He married Matilda A. Ziarnek on April 20,1942 at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Scheller and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Scheller, three children- Rose Marie Kujawa and husband Ernest, Robert Wesolak and wife Clara and Patricia Davitz and husband Everett all of Scheller, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters- Pauline Majewski and Catherine Ziarnek, five brothers- Charles, Mike, Pete, Joe and Frank.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois with Fr. Daniel Jurek officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
The Rosary was prayed at 7:30 P.M., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Interment was in the St. Charles Cemetery at Du Bois.
