Lester Lowell Crites
Lester Lowell Crites, 92, of Du Quoin, IL, formerly of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 3:15 A.M., Monday, July 14, 2003 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, IL.
Lester was a retired farmer and had also worked as a construction supervisor of bridge construction for the state of Illinois. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #681 and a Shriner.
He was born February 5, 1911 at Wayne County, IL, the son of George August and Minnie (Egbert) Crites.
He married Audenia Hall on June 8, 1940 at Taylorville, IL and she preceded him in death on June 1, 1987.
He is survived by two daughters - Nancy Crites Pestka and husband John of Du Quoin, IL, and Judith Wright and husband Gary of Tyler, TX, one sister-in-law - Georgia (Mel) Forbes of Morrisonville, IL, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter - Carolyn, one brother - Glenn Crites and one sister - Beulah.
Graveside services were at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Morrisonville Cemetery at Morrisonville, IL with Douglas Bates, Lester's grandson, officiating.
Those attending the service were asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, IL was in charge of arrangements.
Interment was in the Morrisonville Cemetery at Morrisonville, IL.
Harmon Ray Fisher
Harmon Ray Fisher, 74, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:19 P.M., Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Harmon Ray worked as a Chicago Transit Authority Bus Operator for twenty-five years. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Local 241 ATU, Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion, and Life Member of Disabled American Veterans. Ray was very proud of his ten years in the Air Force. He was also an avid fisherman.
He was born July 2, 1929 at Perry County, IL, the son of Elmer and Anna (Lehman) Fisher.
He married Darlene Bandur on December 21, 1967 at Chicago, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, two sons - Alan Fisher and wife Jan of Avon, IN and Roy Fisher of Du Quoin, one brother - Loren Fisher of Tamaroa, one sister - Madgelane McReynolds of Du Quoin, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were at 1:00 P.M., Monday, July 28, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
Friends called from Noon to 1 P.M., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military rites were conducted by VFW Post 513.

Cindy Rae Fisher
Cindy Rae Fisher, 31, formerly of Pinckneyville, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in the hospital at Lexington, Kentucky.
She was born November 27, 1971 and is survived by her parents, Ray Paul and Diane Fisher of Winchester, Kentucky; her sister, Shelly and brother-in-law, Jack Gabriel, niece, Tagen and nephew, Brennen, all of Carlisle, Kentucky; maternal grandmother, Maxine Helmer of Du Quoin; paternal grandmother, Lois Fisher of Pinckneyville and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Velma Jane Huth
Velma Jane Huth, age 91, of Pinckneyville, IL, went to be with her Lord, Wednesday morning, July 16, 2003, in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Velma was born July 4, 1912 in Pinckneyville, IL, the daughter of Ira C. and Helena E. (Lacy) Jenkel. Velma was united in marriage to Henry W. Huth and he preceded her in death July 18, 1963. Velma was a homemaker and member of the Holt's Prairie Baptist Church of Pinckneyville where she was the Church pianist for over 50 years. She also enjoyed oil and acrylic painting, quilting, gardening and gospel music.
Velma is survived by five children, Betty Bishop and husband Jackie of DuQuoin, Shirley Welsch and husband Ben of Pinckneyville, Mary Shute of Tamaroa, Charles Huth and wife Pat of Ava, Linda Sullivan and husband Nathan of Croton, Ohio; one sister, Ernestine Rushing of Pinckneyville; daughter-in-law, Karen Huth of Ava; one sister-in-law, Lois Jenkel of Pinckneyville; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, David; a brother, Harold Jenkel, and a sister, Myrtle Meyer.
Funeral services were Saturday morning, July 19 at 11:00 a.m., at the Holt's Prairie Baptist Church in Pinckneyville, IL with Brother Collin Hirsch officiating. Interment was in the Holt's Prairie Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville, IL Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the Holt's Prairie Cemetery Fund.
Bill Bailey Joseph
Bill Bailey Joseph, 70, of Carterville passed away suddenly at 3:57 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale with Reverends John Annable and Kristen Madison officiating. Entombment was at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, Murphysboro. Friends called from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale. The Masonic service was held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at the funeral home.
Bill was born February 28, 1933 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Roland Carr and Hazel Irene (Bailey) Joseph. He married Phyllis Knight on June 26, 1955 in Carbondale.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Phyllis Joseph of Carterville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Bradford W. and Terri Joseph of Jacksonville, Florida and Captain Bruce W. and Debbi Joseph of Carbondale; two granddaughters, Jennifer Marie and Kara Nichole Joseph, both of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, Kent and Sharon Joseph, niece, Jane and nephew, John Joseph all of Scottsdale, Arizona; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Knight of Carbondale; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, R.C. and Hazel Joseph; his father-in-law, Ira Dennie Knight; and brother-in-law, Warner Knight all of Carbondale.
Bill was a life-long Methodist and a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church in Carbondale. He was very active at church where he served as head usher and was a member of various committees, including the Board of Trustees. Bill was a Master Mason of the Shekinah Masonic Lodge #241 of Carbondale where he served as secretary for several years. He loved to gather sponsors for the Gospel Sing held each December. In the summer of 2002, he was invited and traveled to the Frankfurt, Germany Masonic Lodge as a U.S. Representative for their 50th anniversary celebration. Throughout the 1980s, Bill was active in umpiring softball and baseball at both the state and local levels. Bill was dedicated to the American Red Cross having been a faithful blood donor for many years and recently received a letter commending his achievement of donating over 10 gallons of blood. Growing up, he earned the level of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and attended the National Jamboree.
Bill was a 1951 graduate of C.C.H.S., and developed life long friendships with his classmates and a very special camaraderie with his football and baseball team members. He continued to enjoy those friendships though the socials of the class each week and each month. Bill earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from SIU in 1955 and in 1965 he returned to earn a Masters Degree in Business. Bill's employment record proudly included the ICRR with over ten years of service in the Traffic Department and the working as Sales Manager for Remington Rand in both Indianapolis, Indiana and St. Louis, Missouri. Upon returning to Southern Illinois he worked as a salesman for Stile's Office Equipment, and later joined Spartan Printing Company where he retired in the late 1900s.
Bill was truly a patriotic American who supported the U.S. Military and loved "Old Glory"; his support of the Tom Hanks WWII Memorial was the catalyst for several names from Carbondale being placed on the memorial. His hobbies included researching genealogy and spending time with his family where he especially enjoyed watching his granddaughters play basketball and softball. Bill was a very giving person and loved talking to and helping people in any capacity he could. To that end, he was an organ donor as his final gift to mankind.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 214 W. Main, Carbondale, IL 62901 or Shekinah Lodge # 241 of Carbondale and will be accepted by the funeral home.
Audrey M. Kirkpatrick
Audrey M. Kirkpatrick, 87, of Tamaroa, passed away at 11:50 P.M., Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Veteran's Affair Hospital in Marion, IL.
Audrey worked as a coal miner at Peabody Coal Company and was owner and operator of Tamaroa Lumber Company from 1968 until 1976. He was also a farmer. He was a member of Tamaroa Christian Church, a Republican Precinct Committeeman, and Tamaroa American Legion member. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of W.W. II.
He was born February 11, 1916 at Sesser, IL, the son of William C. and Minerva J. (Martin) Kirkpatrick.
He married Jessie M. Sprenger on September 17, 1939 at Perryville, Missouri and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa, children - Florence Kirkpatrick of Tamaroa, Arven Kirkpatrick and wife Sally of Tamaroa, Sally Knight and husband Frank of Assumption, IL, and Jane Taylor and husband Tom of Wauchula, FL, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son - Carl, four brothers and four sisters.
Graveside services were at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, August 2, 2003 at Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin with Bro. Arven Kirkpatrick officiating.
Those attending the service were asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Gilbert Pritchett
Gilbert Pritchett, 95, formerly of Carbondale and DuQuoin, died Tuesday evening, July 8, 2003, at Eden Springs Nursing Home in Crawfordville, Florida.
Mr. Pritchett was born August 2, 1907 in DuQuoin to Nicholas L. and Ada (Combs) Pritchett. He married Viola Lorena Reminger on January 2, 1928 in DuQuoin. He had worked as a Linotype Operator and Printer for both the DuQuoin Evening Call and the Carbondale Herald. He was a member of the Communication Workers of America.
Gilbert is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Darla Pritchett of Crawfordville, Florida, grandchildren David Pritchett of Murphysboro, Fran Thompson and Bill Waddington of Clinton, Illinois, Rick Pritchett of Opelika, Alabama, Tim Pritchett of Shell Point, Florida, Kerry Pritchett of Oakland Park, Florida, and Lori Chase of Blue Hill, Maine, 12 great-grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on March 27, 1991, and one daughter, Joyce Waddington in 1982, and a grandchild.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in DuQuoin with Tom Steed officiating. Visitation was private. Huffman-Harker Funeral Home in Carbondale was in charge of the arrangements.
