Helen Mae Apple
Helen Mae Apple, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 5:45 a.m. at Fair Acres Nursing Home.
Ms. Apple had been a housekeeper and a member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Du Quoin.
She was born October 13, 1915 in Cairo, the daughter of Ed and Ludella (Whiting) Thomas.
Surviving are one nephew, Carletus Lathan of Unity and special friends, Bennie Jones, Juanity Wainewright and Lillie Clarry, all of Du Quoin.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ludella Ward.
Funeral services were Saturday, August 16 at 11 a.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Anthony Goodrum officiating. Interment was in IOOF Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends called at the Neal-McClure Funeral Home in Du Quoin from 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday.
Margaret Breeden
Margaret 'Maggie' Breeden, 75, of DeSoto, passed away at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 14, 2003 at home surrounded by her family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2003 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale with Doris McKee officiating. Interment was held at Hallidayboro Cemetery, Hallidayboro, IL. Friends called after 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2003 at the funeral home.

Margaret was born November 7, 1927 in Hallidayboro to Cecil Stanley and Lucille (Stearns) Griffin. She married Bill Breeden on December 31, 1947 at Osceola, Ark. He survives.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Breeden of DeSoto; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jackie and Steve Knowle of Dallas, Ga., Dana and Frank Smith of DeSoto, and Lisa Jacquot of DeSoto; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one sister, Mona Walters of Hallidayboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jackie Dale Griffin; and one sister, Norma Tripp.
Mrs. Breeden had been a trustee for the Village of DeSoto; she was a charter member of the DeSoto Civic Club; and a member of the DeSoto Park Board. Early in the 1990's she retired from the Jackson County Jail where she had worked as a cook. Margaret and Bill were the owners and operators of the DeSoto Laundromat.
She was an avid reader and loved to play Scrabble. She and her friend of fifty-five, Doris Snider spent countless hours together over their favorite past-time of playing the game.
Dorothy Ann DeMarie
Dorothy Ann DeMarie, 83, of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:50 P.M., Friday, August 29, 2003 at her residence.
Dorothy was a retired seamstress at the Pinckneyville Garment Factory. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin.
She was born January 27, 1920, at Du Quoin, the daughter of John and Bessie (Mareianti) DeMarie.
She is survived by three nephews- John DeMarie and wife Virginia of Du Quoin, Sam DeMarie and wife Teresa of Du Quoin and Merino DeMarie Jr. of Du Quoin, niece- Tina Rudloff of St. Louis, MO, great nieces and nephews- David (Dee) O'Rourke, Angie Shivley, Kristie DeMarie, John DeMarie, Merino DeMarie III, Lindsey DeMarie, Kyle DeMarie, Shawna DeMarie, great great nieces- Avery Shivley and Carmen Shivley, great great nephews-David Jacob O'Rourke and Ryan Tomas O'Rourke,Good friends- John Peters and Nila Westerhouse.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two nieces- Tina DeMarie O'Rourke and JoAnn Adotta, sister- Katherine DeMarie, two brothers- Joe DeMarie and Merino (Riggs) DeMarie.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 1, 2003 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, and from 7 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. Monday at the funeral home. The Rosary was prayed at 9:30 A.M. Monday at the funeral home.
Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Wilhemina E. Eberle
Wilhemina E. 'Minnie' Eberle nee Berg died peacefully at the age of 91 on Saturday, August 2, 2003 on her 71st wedding anniversary. She was the loving wife of the late Alfred G. Eberle Sr. and the beloved daughter of the late Valentine and Mary Berg.
Surviving are one son, Al (Kay) Eberle; grandchildren, Joseph G., Ann M., Edward A. and Patrick G. Eberle; brother, Anton (late Frances) Berg; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and brothers, Frank, John and George Berg and their wives.
Visitation was Tuesday at the Becker Ritter Funeral Home in Brookfield, Wisconsin from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation was also Wednesday at St. Luke's Church in Brookfield (18000 W. Green field Ave.) from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., followed by the graveside services at St. Mary's Cemetery at Elm Grove.

Leonard Joseph Eisenhauer
Leonard Joseph Eisenhauer, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:03 P.M., Saturday, August 9, 2003 at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Leonard was a retired automotive mechanic. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Du Quoin, Du Quoin American Legion, Du Quoin VFW, and Lions Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II.
He was born November 6, 1915 at Vergennes, IL, the son of Karl Henry and Elizabeth (Endres) Eisenhauer.
He married Inez I. Bost on May 18, 1941 at Jackson, MO and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, three daughters - Vicki Morris and husband Greg of Tamaroa, L.T. Hill and husband Ralph of Du Quoin, and Gayle Eisenhauer of Du Quoin, two brothers - Eugene Eisenhauer and William Eisenhauer and wife Jerry, all of Du Quoin, one sister - Helen Williams of Murphysboro, IL, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother - Karl Eisenhauer and one sister - Pauline House.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating.
Friends alled from 5 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Rosary was prayed at 9:30 A.M., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin VFW.

Bertha Marie Ellett
Bertha Marie Ellett, 78, of Cutler, IL, and Pinckneyville, IL, died Monday, August 18, 2003, in Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin, IL at 2:16 a.m.
She was born in Cutler on August 4, 1925, a daughter of Philip and Emma (Dietz) Schwebel. She married Charles Ellett on August 6, 1966, and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1968. Bertha was employed by the former Steeleville Shoe Factory and was a housekeeper. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, and babysitting, and was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville.
Survivors include a niece: Mary Ann Saunders of Pinckneyville, three nephews: Albert D. Schwebel, Philip G. Schwebel, and Gary W. Schwebel and wife Teresa, all of Cutler, numerous grand nieces, great grand nieces, and great grand nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother: George Schwebel, and one sister: Christina.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, August 20, 2003, from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m., and on Thursday, August 21, 2003, from 8:00 a.m. till the time of Service, at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, August 21, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville, with Reverend Paul Holder officiating. Interment was in the Galum Presbyterian Cemetery.
