Amanda Zmudzinski
Amanda Zmudzinski, 80, of Scheller, passed away at 4:36 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2001 at Scheller.
Amanda was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois, St. Theresa Altar Sodality and the St. Charles Quilters.
She was born June 29, 1920 at Scheller, the daughter of Jerome and Elizabeth (Skortz) Kabat. She married
Gus. A. Zmudzinski on September 16, 1940 at Scheller and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Scheller; two sons, Gerald Zmudzinski and wife Diane of Tamaroa and Gary Zmudzinski and wife Susan of Scheller; a sister, Dorothy Kujawa and husband Louis of Ashley; seven grandchildren, Jill Kellerman and husband Keith, Gerald Zmudzinski Jr. and wife Dawn, Jeffrey Zmudzinski, Jessica Zmudzinski, Gary Zmudzinski Jr., Gregory Zmudzinski and Sarah Zmudzinski; three great-grandchildren, Jordan and Amanda Kellerman and Timothy Zmudzinski; brothers and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter-in-law, Judith (Kozuszek) Zmudzinski.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 17 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois with Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo officiating.
Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa. The Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Interment was in the St. Charles cemetery at DuBois.

Jack D. Barber
Jack D. Barber, 74, of DuQuoin, passed away at 2:48 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2001 at his residence.
Jack was a retired mechanic, working at Arch Mineral Captain Mine. He wa a member of the Matthews Baptist Church. He wa a member of the UMWA, Perry County Farm Bureau and was a former member of the DuQuoin Elks and DuQuoin American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II.
He was born at Matthews, Ill. on February 16, 1926, the son of John and Gladys (Mansker) Barber. He married
Bernitta M. Ceto at Perry County in July 1947 and she survives.
He is survived by his wife; son, John D. Barber and wife Connie of Vergennes; sister, Joann Porter of Pahrump, Nevada and two grandchildren, Farrah J. Runge and husband Aaron and Larissa Barber.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerry Barber.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 11 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Bro. Jerry Aken officiating. Friends called from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park at DuQUoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for Wildlife care.
Delbert Birkner
Delbert Birkner, age 82, of Rural Route 1, Unicorn Road, Pinckneyville, passed away early Saturday morning in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Delbert was born July 19, 1918 in Pinckneyville, the son of Fred J. and Cora J. (Cottom) Birkner. He was united in marriage to Martha Marie Harvey on January 8, 1938 in St. Louis, Mo. and she preceded him in death on September 23, 1999. Delbert was a retired coal miner with the Pyramid and Consolidated #2 mines and was a member of the UMWA. Delbert was a lifelong resident of Pinckneyville, was very involved with horses and other animals and was a loving husband, father and grandparent.
Delbert is survived by a son, Delbert D. Birkner and wife Marge of Lenzburg; two daughters, Nina Rae Schramm and husband John of Loami and Dianna J. Jebron and Joe of Coulterville; one brother, Harold Birkner and wife Loretta of New Athens; four sisters, Erma Kelley and Audrey Stone and husband James, both of Pinckneyville, Geraldine Woodside and husband Nelson of O'Fallon and Edna Dietrich of Belleville; five grandsons, five granddaughters and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant daughter, Rose Marie; two brothers, Nelson and Milton and a son-in-law, Jim Jebron.
Funeral services were Monday, January 22 at 1 p.m. at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville with Rev. John C. Riggs officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill cemetery.
Friends called Monday morning from 8 a.m. until time of services at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville.

Anton Barciszewski
Anton (Toney) Barciszewski, 76, of DuBois, passed away at 4:37 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2001 at the Washington County Hospital in Nashville.
Toney had been janitor at the St. Charles School for many years and had worked as a laborer in a sawmill.
He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois.
He was born January 17, 1924 at DuBois, the son of Felix and Theresa (Anislak) Barciszewski.
He is survived by one sister, Sophie Lamczyk of Nashville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Regina Fortag and Florence Kwiatkowski and two brothers, George and Walter Barciszewski.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, January 12 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois with Fr. Daniel Jurek and Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo officiating.
Friends called from 9 until 10 a.m. at the church on Friday.
Interment was in the St. Charles cemetery at DuBois.
The Searby Funeral Home of Tamaroa was in charge of arrangements.
Wilma Fay Brayshaw
Wilma Fay Brayshaw, 83, of DuQuoin, passed away at 7 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2001 at the Twin Willow Nursing Home in Salem, Illinois.
Wilma was a retired school teacher, having taught at the West Park, Wheatley and Ward Schools for 40 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church of DuQuoin, Perry County Retired Teacher's Association and the Marshall Browning Hospital Auxiliary.
She was born October 23, 1917 at Salem, Illinois, the daughter of Ora and Lucy (Howell) Metcalf. She married
Terry Lynn Brayshaw on June 11, 1950 at DuQuoin and he passed away August 8, 1987.
She is survived by three daughters, Lynn Ellen Larimer and husband Mark of Salem, Ill., Bonnie Brayshaw of St. Charles, Mo. and Mary Lofton and husband Charles of Indianapolis, Ind. and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and step-daughter, Bea Rhea Brayshaw.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 30 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Chester Zimmer officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 29 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at DuQuoin.

Paula Buckholz
Paula "Crickett' Buckholz, 50, of West Frankfort, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at 10:44 a.m. at her home.
Paula was a special person in the eyes of her family and many friends. She fought a long, hard battle in life. May she now enjoy her peace. Paula was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Foxcroft Ward at West Frankfort.
She was born September 24, 1950 at Carbondale, the daughter of Kenneth and Opal Higginbotham.
Surviving are her parents, Kenneth and Opal Higginbotham of DeSoto; daughter, Shelley Dawne Hampton of Ziegler; three sisters, Fayetta Chancey of DeSoto, Mary Davis of Zeigler and Levieta Fred of DeSoto; one brother, Charles McCarthy of DeSoto and three grandchildren, Kahree Kotie and Dakota.
Paula was preceded by a daughter, Wendy Christene George.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 2 at Hillcrest cemetery at Carterville with Brother Lewis Russell officiating.
Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville was in charge of arrangements.
Martha E. Burch
Martha E. Burch, age 81, of Pinckneyville, passed away Friday morning, January 12, 2001 in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital at 4:45 a.m.
Martha was born March 2, 1919 in Campbell, Mo., the daughter of Ernest and Sybal Pearl (Hedge) Barton. Martha was united in marriage in St. Genevieve, Mo. on February 20, 1941 to Owen S. Burch and he preceded her in death on July 29, 1998. Martha was a homemaker and was a member of the Steeleville United Methodist Church in Steeleville.
Martha is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Stone and husband Richard of Rosebud, Mo. and Linda Nelson and husband David of Manassas, Va.; five grandchildren, Richie, Rhonda, Matt, David and Beverly; 10 great-grandchildren and one brother, William Barton of Murphysboro. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Sarah "Sally' Barton.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 15, 2001 in the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville at 1 p.m. with Dr. Robert Smith officiating. Interment was in Ellis Grove cemetery at Ellis Grove.

Robert C. Brewner
Robert C.Brewner, 72, of DuQuoin, passed away at 2:55 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2001 at Fair Acres Nursing Home.
Mr. Brewner had retired from the Mechanical Department at SIU-C in 1995 after 32 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a member of BPOE #884, American Legion Post 647, VFW Post 1301, the Masonic Lodge and K of C #1298. He was a past Perry County Democratic Chairman and former District 300 School Board member. He was DAV DHS Athletic Fan of the Year in 1979.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was born October 1, 1928 at DuQuoin, the son of James N. and Glenna P. (Thorpe) Brewner. He married
Rita Nealon on May 14, 1955 at West Frankfort and she survives.
Surviving are his wife, Rita Brewner of DuQuoin; son, Bobby Brewner of DuQuoin; brother, Bill Brewner of DuQuoin and grandchildren, Mandy and Coty Brewner of DuQuoin. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one daughter.
Funeral services were Monday, January 15 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Harry J. Jerome officiating. Interment was in St. John's Catholic cemetery at West Frankfort.
Friends were able to call Sunday after 5 p.m. and until time of services on Monday. The Rosary was said Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Maxton Funeral Chapel.
Military graveside services were performed by VFW and American Legion.
Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Building Fund.
Kathryn Lynn Campbell
Kathryn Lynn Campbell, 26, of 3381 Mount Olive Road, Bidwell, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at 12:26 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2001 in the Holzer Medical Center.
Kathryn was the daughter of Mike and Rita Eisfelder Hager of Bidwell and she was born September 13, 1974 in Gallipolis, Ohio. She was a 1992 graduate of North Gallia High School and a May 1995 graduate of Rio Grande School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse on the second floor west unit at Holzer Medical Center. She was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church and the Ohio Nurses Association.
She married
Michael J. Campbell on November 25, 1995 in Gallipolis, Ohio and he survives, along with their three children, Joshua Michael, age 4, Abby Nicolle, Age2, and Jacob Matthew, who was born just three weeks ago on December 21, 2000. Also surviving are her maternal grandmother, Florence Eisfelder of Pinckneyville; paternal grandmother, Laura J. Hager of Bidwell, Ohio; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael W. and Mary A. Chapman Campbell of Bidwell, Ohio; sister-in-law, Carey Dodrill and her husband David of Vinton; brothers-in-law, Christopher Wallis and his wife Nichole of Wellston, Ohio, Steven Campbell and his wife Amber of Crown City, Ohio and timothy Campbell and his wife Stephanie of Cheshire, Ohio.
Aunts and Uncles surviving are Wayne and Barbara Wolfe of Bidwell, Pat Hager of Bidwell, Shelly Hager of Naples, Fla., Margie and Dennis Dowell of Southaven, Miss., Pat and Tony Ozella of Washington, Ill., Fran Eisfelder of Peoria, John and Margi Eisfelder of Pinckneyville, Bill and mary Purcell of Nashville and Dennis and Susan Magill of North Fairfield, Ohio.
Cousins surviving are Jenny and Scott Ozella, Jodie and Holley Eisfelder and Aaron and Sharyn Purcell, all of Illinois, Colleen Dowell, Stephanie Dowell and Kevin Dowell, all of Mississippi and John Wolfe, Joe and Samantha Wolfe, Laura and Sean Colley, Jim Wolfe, Kelley Hager and Kory Hager, all of Bidwell, Ohio.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Francis Eisfelder and paternal grandfather, John M. Hager.
Mass of Christian Burial will beat 11 a.m. Friday, January 12 in the St. Louis Catholic Church. Monsignor William R. Myers will officiate. Interment will follow in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the Cremeens Funeral Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A prayer service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel with Rev. Denny Coburn officiating.

Louis Rider
Louis "Corky' Rider, 71, of Elkville, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2001 at 1:20 p.m. at Carbondale Nursing and Rehab Center.
Mr. Rider had been a coal miner. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Elkville, and the UMWA. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was born July 6, 1929 at Springfield, Ohio, the son of Van Hubert Rider and Jennie Mueller. He married
Joy Lasley on October 23, 2976 at Hillsboro and she survives.
In addition to his wife Joy of Elkville, surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Debbie Rider of DuQuoin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Terry Lee and Bruce Cobin of Dowell, Cheryl Ann and Mark Krone of DuQuoin and Patty Sue and Robert Brown of Hillsboro; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Clarissa Choate of Glendale, Ariz.; step-daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Thomas Asbury of Bunker Hill; three brothers, Robert Rider of Christopher, Richard Rider of DuQuoin and Joe Rider of Christopher; two sisters, Mary Lou Margherio of Metropolis and JoAn Williamson of Dowell; two sisters-in-law, Dorice Engelman of Seattle, Wash. and Margueritte Walker of Miami, Okla.; a special friend, Leroy "Cookie' Chapman of Royalton; eight grandchildren; four step-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; one great-grandson and one step-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Louis Wayne and George Edward and one grandson.
Funeral services were Wednesday, January 10 at 10 a.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Thomas Asbury officiating. Interment was in Cundiff cemetery at Blairsville.
Friends called Tuesday, January 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Sophia A. Ende
Sophie A. Ende, 93, of Chicago, passed away Friday, January 12, 2001 at Lexington Nursing Home in Chicago Ridge, Ill..
Mrs. Ende was born August 21, 1907 at DuQuoin, the daughter of Frederick and Sophie (Heumann) Sutter. She married
Richard Ende and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Ende of Chicago and Farrell Ende of Chicago; a sister, Augusta Marlow of Pinckneyville; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services were Wednesday, January 17 at Maxton Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m.
Interment was in Sutter cemetery.
Edward "Jack' Gearhart
Edward "Jack' Gearhart, 57, of Pomona, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Gearhart was an operator-engineer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cobden, the American Legion in Cobden, the VFW in Anna and was President of the Veterans Memorial in Alto Pass. He was a veteran.
He was born August 15, 1943 at Pomona, the son of Leslie and Evelyn Latchshaw Gearhart.
Surviving are his daughter, Jacqueline Suzette Gearhart of Anna; son, Monte Shawn Gearhart of Murphysboro and one grandchild. He was also survived by his wife, Carolyn Gearhart of Pomona, who passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 1, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Dillow officiating. Interment was in Alto Pass cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday, January 31 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home.
The VFW served as pallbearers.
