Stanley R. Keene
Stanley R. Keene, age 98, of 304 East Jackson St. in Pinckneyville, died on Thursday afternoon, January 18, 2001 in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Mr. Keene was born July 18, 1902 in Pinckneyville, the son of John W. and Annis (Reisinger) Keene. He married Wanda Kelley on November 9, 1934 in the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville. She preceded him in death on February 3, 1997.

He was a retired coal miner from the Pyramid Mine and a farmer. He was a member of the UMWA Local 9721 and a Teamster. He was a lifelong resident of Pinckneyville and an active member of the First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member for many years. He was a faithful giver to Baptist mission causes.

Mr. Keene is survived by a nephew, Don Keene and wife Joan of Pinckneyville; a niece, Virginia Kuhnert of Ava; three great-nephews, Cecil Keene and wife Ruth of Pinckneyville, Donny Keene and wife Pam of Pinckneyville, and Daniel Keene and wife Debbie of Simponville, S.C.; five great-nieces, Patricia Harsy and husband Ed of Pinckneyville, Diane Barker and husband David of O'Fallon, and Jaci Keene of St. Louis, and great-nieces Ann and Christine; and three great-great-nephews, Michael, Clinton and J.D. Keene. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five sister and three brothers.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville with Rev. James Bush officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill cemetery. Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville or after 12 noon Sunday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Home in Carmi or the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

Mary Lou Foutch
Mary Lou Foutch, 50, of DuQuoin, passed away Monday, January 15, 2001 at 3:25 a.m. at her home.

Mrs. Foutch was a bank teller at DuQuoin State Bank. She attended Patricia Stephens College in St. Louis.

She was born April 26, 1950 at DuQuoin, the daughter of William and Kathleen "Tootie' (Kezely) Kelley. She married Wayne Foutch on March 27, 1971 at DuQuoin.

Surviving are her husband, Wayne Foutch of DuQuoin; two sons, Matthew Foutch of DuQuoin and Anthony Foutch of DuQuoin; parents, Bill and Tootie Kelley of DuQuoin; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Delena Kelley of Harrisonburg, Va. and a niece, Carrie Kelley of Harrisonburg, Va.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, January 17 at 1 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating. Burial was held a at later date in Sacred Heart cemetery in DuQuoin.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home in DuQuoin on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Perry County.

Paul Dean Kuhnert
Paul Dean Kuhnert, 74, of DuQuoin, passed away Friday, January 5, 2001 at Marshall Browning Hospital.

Mr. Kuhnert was a coal miner and a farmer. He was a Life Member of VFW Post 513. He also belonged to American Legion Post 647, DuQuoin Sports Booster Club and was Fan of the Year in 1983.

He was born January 1, 1927 in Perry County, the son of Charles T. and Elta Ann (Todd) Kuhnert.

Surviving are two brothers, Carl R. (Mary) Kuhnert of Tamaroa and Ronald (Dianna) Kuhnert of Tamaroa and five sisters, Charlene (Marion) Marlow of DuQuoin, Joy (Curtis) Donahue of St. Louis, Mo., Patsy (James) McGhee of St. Louis, Mo., Eileen (Arlen) Hill of Pinckneyville and Gloria (Mark) Jones of DuQuoin. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were Tuesday, January 9 at 1 p.m. at paradise Baptist Church with Rev. M. Shaw DeMent officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Monday, January 8 from 4 until 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at which time services moved to the church.

Memorial donations may be made to the Stephanie Hill Scholarship fund.

Linda Sue Leich
Linda Sue Leich, 54, of Rochester, passed away Friday January 12, 2001 at Golden Senior Care.

She was born July 25, 1946 in Mattoon, the daughter of James D. and Ethel Horrebeke West. She married Marshall Leich November 8, 1969 in Springfield. He survives.

mrs. Leich graduated from Brown's Business College and worked for Nixdorf-Siemens Company for 12 years.

She is survived by her husband, Marshall Leich; parents, James D. and Ethel West of Humboldt; sister, Carolyn Gosiewski of Tracy, Calif.; a favoriteuncle, Ray Hoorebeke of Arizona City, Ariz.; other aunts and an uncle; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews.

Friends called at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home on Monday, January 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. Graveside services were at 12 Noon Tuesday, January 16 at Paradise Praire cemetery in DuQuoin with Reverend Amon White officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 229 N. 5th Street, Springfield, IL 62701 or the Animal Protection League 1001 Taintor Road, Springfield, IL 62702.

The family of Linda Sue Leich was served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Leo W. Rybacki
Leo W. Rybacki, 42, of Tamaroa, passed away at 4:52 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Leo was a farm laborer. he was a member of the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church at Todds Mill. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was born April 9, 1958 at Pinckneyville, the son of Peter R. and Pearl E. (Day) Rybacki. He married Sandra Presswood on March 15, 1997 in Kentucky and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa; his parents, Pete and Pearl Rybacki of Pinckneyville; son, Derrick Rybacki of Nashville; three brothers, Roger Rybacki and wife Mary Jo of Duquoin, Dale Rybacki and wife Michelle of Tamaroa and Dennis Rybacki and wife Lorriee of Salem; sister, Deborah Moore and husband Donald of Pinckneyville and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, February 5 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Todds Mill with Fr. James VanOss officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa. A vigil service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Interment was in the St. Mary Magdalen cemetery at Todds Mill.

Ted J. Rulevish
Ted J. Rulevish, 71, of Tamaroa, passed away at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Ted was a farmer. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tamaroa and the Perry County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed attending tractor pulling contests.

He was born December 8, 1929 at Tamaroa, the son of Joseph and Hattie (Oslager) Rulevish. He married martha Heck on September 4, 1954 at DuBois and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa; son, Edward Rulevish and wife Kathy of Scheller; two daughters, Judy Valentine and husband Mark of Tamaroa and Cathy Pestka and husband David of Tamaroa; one sister, Mary L. Keener of Granite City; one brother, Robert R. Rulevish of DuQuoin and six grandchildren, Tim, Ashlee, Keith, Kaylee and Tyler Rulevish and Matthew Valentine.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Nathan Rulevish.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 3 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tamaroa with Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.

Interment was in the Immaculate Conception cemetery at Tamaroa.

Friends may make memorials to Masses, Marshall Browning Hospital or St. Judes Childrens Hospital.

Pauline House
Pauline House, 82, of Elkville, passed away at 3:09 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2001 at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Pauline was a homemaker and had worked at the Pinckneyville Garment Co. and the Southern Barbeque. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DuQuoin.

She was born June 28, 1918 in Perry County, the daughter of Karl and Elizabeth (Endres) Eisenhauer. She married Kenneth H. House on September 18, 1954 at Belleville and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Elkville; a daughter, Nancy Stebler and husband Gary of Burbank, Calif.; three brothers, Leonard Eisenhauer and wife Inez of DuQuoin, Gene Eisenhauer of DuQuoin and Bill Eisenhauer and wife Gerry of DuQuoin and one sister, Helen Williams of Murphysboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Karl Eisenhauer.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 25 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DuQuoin with Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin. The Rosary was said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment was in the Elkville cemetery.

Friends may make memorials to the DuQuoin Dialysis Center, Masses or any of the church functions.

Granval L. Morrow
Granval L. "Boy" Morrow of Inverness, Florida, formerly of Tamaroa, died Friday, January 19, 2001 after a brief illness.

Mr. Morrow was born on November 6, 1932 to Roy and Ruth (Jones) Morrow. He married Janet Jolly of DuQuoin in 1952.

Mr. Morrow grew up in Tamaroa and was a graduate of DuQuoin High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and went on to graduate from Purdue University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was a retired naval officer and nuclear engineer. His work in both these fields took him to many parts of the world.

Mr. Morrow is survived by one daughter and husband, Sandy and Tim Perrin of Peachtree City, Ga.; three sons and their wives, Capt. Steven and Connie Morrow of Waldorf, Maryland, Scott and Connie Morrow of Auburn, AL and Jeff and Lenore Morrow of Speedway, Ind.; one brother and wife, Robert and Viola Morrow of DuQuoin and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and one sister. A memorial service was held in Inverness, Florida on Sunday, January 21, 2001.

George Wm. Hill
George Wm. "Bus" Hill, 74, of Peoria, formerly of DuQuoin, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at Fondulac Woods Healthcare in Peoria.

Mr. Hill had worked in automobile sales. He served in the Merchant Marines and Coast Guard during WW II.

He was born January 5, 1926 at DuQuoin, the son of William Clarence Hill and Madge Opal Halstead.

Surviving are three daughters, Shelley Tiller of Peoria, Teresa Davis of Bartonville and Lorrie Thornton of Peoria Heights; two brothers, Ben Hill of DuQuoin and Dwight Hill of DuQuoin; a sister, Vivian Gross of DuQuoin; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were Saturday, January 6 at 2:30 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery at DuQuoin.

Friends called Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until time of services at Neal-McClure Funeral Home.

Harriss Cleland Malan
Harriss Cleland Malan, age 93, of Carbondale, formerly of Pinckneyville, died Monday, January 22, 2001 at 7:20 p.m. in the Carbondale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Harriss was born in Perry County, Illinois on August 26, 1907, the son of Camille and Margaret (Templeton) Malan. He married Fannie Belle Roe on June 7, 1933; she preceded him in death on November 5, 1992.

He received his bachelor's degree from Park College in Parkville, Missouri. He began his teaching in Pinckneyville, Illinois, was a high school teacher at Vandalia, Illinois and was the high school principal at Onarga, Illinois. He worked as a sales representative for Houghton-Mifflin Publishing company for over 30 years where he worked on the American Heritage Dictionary.

Harriss taught technical subjects to young men entering the military during World War II. he lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan and relished his life there. He received his Masters Degree from the University of Michigan during that time.

Harriss came to SIU in 1970 as an administrative aide in the College of Education and retired from that position in 1976.

He had a wonderful sense of humor and a great love for children. He was the Philanthropist of the Year 2000 for the SIU School of Medicine. He funded numerous scholarships for Park College, SIU and SIU School of Medicine and funded Alzheimer's Research at the SIU School of Medicine. IN memory of his wife, he donated to Green Earth, Inc., Flag Land Park whish is located near his home on Sunset Drive. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, The Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary.

He is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends of all ages. He was preceded in death by parents, wife and two brothers, Russell and Lowell.

Funeral services were held at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Homein Pinckneyville, Illinois on Friday, January 26, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Karen Terada and Glen Webb officiating.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 25, 2001 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Friday, January 26, 2001 from 8:00 a.m. until services. Interment was in Galum Presbyterian cemetery in Pinckneyville, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to the SIU School of Medicine.

Kurtlan Karrell Hahs
Kurtlan Karrell Hahs, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas. He was 45 years of age and a resident of Severy.

Kurt, as he was known, was born November 22, 1955 at St. Louis, Missouri to Robert Carroll and Wanda Lee (Kuhnert) Hahs. He graduated from Clayton High School in the St. Louis area. The Hahs family moved to Novato in 1976, where Kurt attended Marin County Junior College in San Rafael.

On September 22, 1984, he married Ellen Marie Wahl of Severy, Kansas. Kurt and Ellen lived in Novato until moving to Severy, Kansas in 1990. He was a member of the Severy Baptist Church. Kurt was an avid Motorcycle enthusiast who also loved animals and music.

He is survived by his brother, Eric of Novato; wife, Ellen; stepdaughter, Tami Digman and granddaughter, Barbara Digman, both of Woodward, Okla.; grandparents, John and Hilda Kuhnert of Cutler and Ora Dickemann of St. Louis, Mo.

Interment took place on Tuesday, January 16 at 2 p.m. at the chapel located in Valley Memorial Park in Novato, CA. The Keaton Mortuary is handling the funeral arrangements.

Daphne M. Carter
Daphne M. Carter, 82, of Tamaroa, passed away at 4:21 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2001 at the Fair View Nursing Center in DuQuoin.

Daphne was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tamaroa. She had retired as a CNA from the Fair View Nursing Center in DuQuoin after 15 years of service.

She was born January 11, 1918 at Fisher, Ill., the daughter of Marvin and Sylva (Winthrop) Griffith. She married Miles S. Carter on August 15, 1936 at Tamaroa. He passed away August 21, 1967.

She is survived by a son, Ron Carter and wife Pat of Tamaroa; sister, Elma Kiersten of Carol Stream, Ill.; two grandsons, Sean Carter and wife Jodi of Pinckneyville and Kevin Carter of Tamaroa and one great-grandson, Dillan of Pinckneyville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Oren Griffith and sister, Norma Valentine.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 5 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Rev. C.L. McKinnies officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.

Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park at DuQuoin.

John Franklin Norris
John Franklin Norris, 43, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of DuQuoin, passed away at 10:36 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at Caroline Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

John was born September 20, 1957 at Wuerburz, Germany, the son of Charles Stearns and Elisabeth Oberst.

John worked as a truck driver. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1976 to980. John was a wonderful father to his children.

Surviving are his parents, Charles and Elisabeth Stearns of Smyrna, Tenn.; daughter, Jennifer Norris of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sons, John Norris Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Brian Norris of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Terry Lynn Bossle of Chicago and Leona and Mark Cavins of DeSoto; two brothers, Russell Norris of Herrin and David Stearns of Smyrna, Tenn.; grandmother, Mae Stearns of Smyrna, Tenn. and uncle and aunt, Frank and Iris Norris of Alton.

He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, one grandmother, one brother, one sister and two aunts.

A memorial service was conducted at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous.
