Thomas R. Millikin
Thomas R. Millikin, age 70, of Harrison, AR, died at his home on Tuesday, May 1, 2001.

Tom was born in Pinckneyville on October 19, 1930, the son of Charles and Frances (Reidelberger) Millikin. He attended Pinckneyville Community High School where he was a member of the 1948 State Championship Basketball Team and later graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He married JoAnn Medlin and she survives. Tom served as a coach and superintendent at Proviso East High School in Northern Illinois until his retirement to Harrison, AR.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn, a son, Charles A. Millikin of Philadelphia, PA, two grandchildren, Tommy Millikin and Johnnie Marie Millikin, his mother, Frances Millikin of Pinckneyville and two sisters, Betty Ferrero of Mt. Vernon and Thelma Coatney of Bloomington. he was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Hulda Hildebrand and Janet Masters.

Visitation was held on Thursday with graveside funeral services Friday.

Holt Memorial Chapel in Harrison, AR was in charge of arrangements.

Joyce Irene Heggemeier
Joyce Irene Heggemeier, age 54, passed away Tuesday morning, May 22, 2001 at 11:45 a.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Joyce was born in DuQuoin on June 30, 1946, the daughter of Clarence E. and Dorothy (Talmadge) Heggemeier. Joyce resided with her father and step-mother in Pinckneyville since 1976 coming from Swanwick. Joyce is survived by her father, Clarence e. Heggemeier and his wife Viola (Wood) of Pinckneyville; two brothers, Cecil Edward Heggemeier and wife Jo Ellen of Steeleville, Danny Roy Heggemeier of Champaign; two sisters, Judy Ann Roberts and husband Ronald of Kamas, Utah and Cheryl Ann Heggemeier of Umatilla, Fla. She was preceded in death by her mother on July 2, 1973.

Funeral services were Saturday, May 26 at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville at 10 a.m. with Reverend James Bush officiating. Interment was in the Bethel cemetery in Swanwick.

Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until services.

Violet Burnett
Violet Burnett, 88, of Doe Run, Mo., formerly of DuQuoin, passed away Monday, May 21, 2001 at 5;32 p.m. at Mineral Area Regional Center in Farmington, Mo.

Mrs. Burnett was a clerk at a clothing store and a member of Spirit of Life Christian Church in DuQuoin.

She was born December 28, 1912 at Vergennes, Ill., the daughter of Edward and Martha (Conrad) Peckler. She married Jake Burnett on November 18, 1931 at Hallidayboro and he preceded her in death on February 15, 1969.

Surviving are one daughter, Joan Clark of Doe Run, Mo.; one brother, Ralph Peckler of Carbondale; two sisters, Olive Atherton of DuQuoin and Luthenia Nelson of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Earnie Williams, Sherry D. Rambin and Jeff Williams; 10 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Jerry; one daughter, Jean Williams; one brother; three sisters; a granddaughter and grandson.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gerald Wright officiating. Interment was in Elkville cemetery.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home in DuQuoin on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Mateo Krpan
Mateo Krpan, 88, of DuQuoin, passed away at 3:14 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2001 at his residence.

Mateo was a retired Merchant Marine. He was of the Catholic faith.

He was born June 1, 1912 in Yugoslavia. He married Manuela Gonzales and she survives in Spain.

He is also survived by a son- Phil Krpan and wife Laura of DuQuoin, four grandchildren- Katherine Krpan, Victoria Krpan, Matthew Krpan, Jonathon Krpan, a sister-Marianna Bogdanovich of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 at Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin with Rev. Christopher Esget officiating.

Those attending the services were asked to go directly to the cemetery.

The Searby Funeral Home of DuQuoin was in charge of arrangements.

Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends may make memorials to Perry County Hospice.

Geraldine Morgan
Geraldine "Jerry' Morgan, 94, of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, May 17, 2001 at 9:45 a.m. at Jeffersonian Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Morgan was born January 2, 1907 at Tamaroa, the daughter of Leo D. Holden and Madge (Ing) Holden. She married Frank B. Morgan on March 17, 1936 and he preceded her in death.

She was employed for 29 years as a receptionist and secretary for the law firm of Campbell, Furnall, Moore and Jacobsen from September 1958 to November 1987.

Mrs. Morgan was a devout Christian. She loved working and was known for her many crafts and keeping her yard and flowers well maintained. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Surviving are two daughters, Jean Carls of Sparland, Ill. and Marilyn Vuichard and husband Harold of Mt. Vernon; seven grandchildren, Gerald T. Hawkins and wife Ruth of DuQuoin, Mary Gwen Falkenhein and husband Allen of Overland, Mo., Brother John Sebastian of the Franciscan Monastery in Washington D.C., Ian Hammond and wife Dawn of Wyoming, Ill., Mary N. Hammond of Normal, Valerie A. Shields and husband John R. of St. Peters, Mo. and Darren L. Vuichard and wife Stacy of Mt. Vernon; 10 great-grandchildren, John Hawkins and wife Amorette, Jane Lysell and husband John, Amy Morgenthaler and husband Brad, Hannah Vuichard, Ryan Shields, Brianna Shields, Allyson Vuichard, Ripley Hammond, Mark Breckenridge; three great-great-grandchildren, Olivia, Calvin and Grace Lysell and two nieces, Jane Gagel and Joann Parkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Patricia L. Hawkins and two sisters, Gladys Lutz and Gwen Barnes.

Funeral services were Saturday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Hughey Funeral Home with Mr. J. Howard Kraps officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial cemetery at DuQuoin.

Friends called after 9 a.m. Saturday morning until the funeral hour at Hughey Funeral Home.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Central Christian Church or to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the Hughey Funeral Home at any time.

Raymond William Heisner
Raymond William Heisner, 82, of Pinckneyville, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, May 6, 2001 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Raymond was a retired farmer. He was a member of the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church at Todds Mill. He was a member of the Pinckneyville Knights of Columbus, the Perry County Farm Bureau and the Central Laborers Union.

He was born June 5, 1918 in Perry County, the son of Arthur and Catherine (Bathon) Heisner. He married Eutoala C. Bathon on September 1, 1941 at the St. Mary Magdalen church at Todds Mill and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Pinckneyville, five children- Leona Bochantin of St. Louis, Mo., Raymond W. Heisner Jr. of Pinckneyville, Edward J. Heisner of Fairview Heights, Ill., Eugene Leo Heisner of Pinckneyville and Carol Ann Crumbacher of Pinckneyville, two sisters- Dorothy Barnowski of St. Louis, Mo. and Rosalia Sroka of Pinckneyville, two brothers- Floyd Heisner of Pinckneyville and James Heisner of St. Peters, Mo., 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8 at the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church at Todds Mill with Fr. James Van Oss officiating.

Friends called from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa. The Rosary was said at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Interment was in the St. Mary Magdalen cemetery at Todds Mill.

Memorials may be made to Masses or to the American Lung Association.

Emily C. Schwarz
Emily C. Schwarz, age 91, of Pinckneyville, died in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at 8 a.m.

Emily was born in Pinckneyville on September 8, 1909, the daughter of Martin G. and Caroline (Paasch) Mayer. She married Louis G. Schwarz on January 29, 1928 and he preceded her in death on October 7, 1974. Emily worked at the Pinckneyville Garment Factory and was a member pf the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conant, the ILGWU and AARP.

Survivors include two sons, Ervin Schwarz of Pinckneyville and Bill Schwarz and wife Shirley of Pinckneyville; four daughters, Leona Hagene and husband Raymond of Belleville, Alma Lee and husbandd Ervin of Belleville, Norma Niemeyer of Pinckneyville and Velma Jones and husband Buddy of Pinckneyville; one sister, Lisetta Hepp of Pinckneyville; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ernestine Rabe and Onita Hoffman.

Funeral services were held at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Thursday, May 24 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Russ Helbig officiating. Interment was in the Lost Prairie cemetery in Pinckneyville.

Visitation was at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 a.m.until services. Memorials may be made to the Lost Prairie cemetery.

Clara Elizabeth Hottes
Clara Elizabeth Hottes, 92, of DuQuoin, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2001 at 12:20 a.m. at Fairview Nursing Center in DuQuoin.

Mrs. Hottes was a housewife and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters.

She was born June 9, 1908 at Pinckneyville, the daughter of Louis J. and Rose (Schmidt) Miller. She married Carl George Hottes on October 12, 1938 at DuQuoin.

Surviving are her husband, Carl George Hottes of DuQuoin; one son, Carl Gene Hottes of DuQuoin; one daughter, Joan Diederich of Pittsburgh, Penn.; one brother, Albert Miller of Pinckneyville; one sister, Emma Ford of DuQuoin; one grandson, Aaron Hottes of DuQuoin; three granddaughters, Ann and Katherine Diederich and Gretchen Green and one great-grandson, Baby Christopher Hottes of DuQuoin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Funeral services were Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Miller officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart cemetery at DuQuoin.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 to 9:45 a.m. Monday.

Family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Hardship Fund or City of DuQuoin-Keyes Park.

LeRoy Chaney
LeRoy Chaney, 66, of Elkville, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001 at 5:35 p.m. in Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Mr. Chaney was a member of the I.B.E.W. Union. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post #127 and the VFW Post #7190.

He was born November 10, 1934 at Murphysboro, the son of Horace Chaney and Irene (Mitchell) Chaney. He married Mary Ellen Hardman on August 6, 1955 at Quartzsite, Ariz. and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Mary Ellen Chaney of Elkville, surviving are one son, Lon Chaney of Elkville; four daughters, Mickey Adams and husband John of Winslow, Ariz., Carla Chaney of Murphysboro, JoAnn Haynes and husband Robert of Delaware, Ohio and Jill Chaney of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Lewis Chaney of Elkville; five sisters, Doris Huck of Scottsdale, Ariz., Marlene Borwn of Afton, Tenn., Donna Griffiths of Montgomery, Ala., Carol Smith of Newburgh, Ind. and Diana Grammer of Tanana, Alaska; six grandchildren, Cammeron Adams, Jason Chaney, Stacy Haynes, Kyle Adams, Amy Haynes and Jesse Haynes and many friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas Chaney and Harry Lee Chaney.

Graveside services were held Sunday, June 3 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with Roger Kried officiating. Family and Friends were asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro.

Pauline Helen Phillips
Pauline Helen Phillips, age 77, of Pinckneyville, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 in Carlyle Health Care, Carlyle, Ill. at 2:40 a.m.

Pauline was born in Pinckneyville on February 19, 1924, the daughter of William and Linda (Dal Santo) Fontana. She was a telephone operator with AT&T; for 24 years, Dietary Supervisor at Pinckneyville Community Hospital for 17 years, a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, and a member of the Catholic Daughters.

Survivors include a daughter: Barbara Wessel and her husband Dennis of Centralia, three sons: John and his wife Kelly, William, David and his wife Allison, all of Pinckneyville, three sisters: Mabel Chwasczinski and her husband Stanley of Nashville, Marie LaRowe of Pinckneyville, Felicita "Cheek' Kellerman of Pinckneyville, four grandchildren: Nicole and Andrew Wessel and Abram and Christopher Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister: Elizabeth "Tina' Johnson and two brothers: Albert and Val Fontana.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 17 at 10 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church with Fr. John Venegoni officiating. Interment was in St. Bruno Catholic cemetery.

Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 until 9:30 a.m. A Rosary was said at the funeral home on Thursday at 9 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or St. Bruno cemetery.

Alice Leona Long
Alice Leona Long, 71, 13834 Thompson Rd., Pekin, died at 1:22 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2001 at Pekin Hospital.

Born September 30, 1929 in Washington, Iowa, she was a daughter of William and Elsie Campbell Giacomo. She married Arthur M. Scherle in August 1946 in Pinckneyville. She then married Howard Erps in 1956 in Pekin. She later married Adolph "Al' Long on August 23, 1980 in Pekin.

Surviving are her husband; her mother, Elsie Giacomo of Pinckneyville; four daughters, Melba (Jimmy) Flowers of Arab, Alabama, Diana (Larry) Woodside of Pinckneyville, Cindy (Jerry) Flick of Pekin and Brenda (Jerry) McFarden of Creve Couer; two sons, Richard (Tammy) Erps of Pekin and Rodney (Donna) Erps of Sparta; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl (Barbara) Giacomo and one sister, Shirley (Frank) Martin, both of Pinckneyville.

She was preceded in death by her father; two brothers, Paul and Roger Giacomo; two sisters, Dora and Betty Lou Giacomo; one granddaughter, Anissa Bigham and two nieces.

Mrs. Long had worked as a cook and waitress at many Pekin restaurants. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville and enjoyed gardening and crocheting.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Rev. Dwight E. Borden will officiate. Burial was in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 108 Boeykens Place, Suite 207, Normal, IL 61761.

Dorothy Alvera Huggins
Dorothy Alvera Huggins, age 83, of Pinckneyville, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at 3:15 p.m. in the Pinckneyville Healthcare Center.

Dorothy was born in Cutler on April 13, 1918, the daughter of John Thomas and Nellie (Forbes) Woodside. She married Vallie Everett Huggins on January 19, 1933 and he preceded her in death on March 23, 1985.

Survivors include three sons, Virgil Everett Huggins and wife Helen of Pinckneyville, Vernon Eugene Huggins and wife Annetta of Pinckneyville, Vallie Elroy Huggins and wife Ruth of Pinckneyville; two daughters, Doris Eslinger and husband Chuck of Tamaroa and Fay Clark and husband Henry of DuQuoin; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Norma Habberman of Willisville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were held at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville Friday, May 25 at 11 a.m. with Brother Ted Clark officiating. Interment was in the Cutler cemetery.

Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. and again on Friday morning from 8 a.m. until services.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Wanda E. Craig
Wanda E. Craig, age 75, of Pinckneyville, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at 8 p.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Skilled Care Unit.

Wanda was born November 8, 1925 in Ava, the daughter of Tony and Pearl (Woodside) Lee. She was united in marriage April 7, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo. to James Nelson Craig and he preceded her in death on December 16, 1984. Wanda worked as a cook for Luke's Cafe for many years and was a member of the Nine Mile Baptist Church in Pinckneyville.

Wanda is survived by three sons; James L. Craig of Kissimmee, Fla., Loren D. Craig of Red Bud and Jerry L. Craig of Pinckneyville, one daughter, Rebecca Ann Davis of Nashville, a brother, Jack Lee of Scotsdale, Ariz., two sisters; Melba Jean Trout of Bowling Green, Ky. and Ruth Ozburn of Fort Smith, Ark., 14 grandchildren, Vicky Woodside, Jimmy Craig, Jennifer Craig, Jason Craig, Jarid Craig, Joshua Craig, Ashley Davis, David James Davis, Matthew Tyler Davis, Daniel Craig, Cory Criag, Spencer Craig, Travis Craig and Shelly Craig and four great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two daughters: Wilma June Easter and Barbara Jean in infancy.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville with Brother Raymond Baggott officiating. Interment was in the Cutler cemetery.

Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville Friday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until services.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
