Teresa M. Brand
Teresa M. Brand, age 90, of Pinckneyville, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at 9:55 p.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Skilled Care Unit.

Teresa was born on July 17, 1911 in Perry County, the daughter of Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Miller) Epplin. She married Edward C. Brand on September 28, 1932 at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, and he preceded her in death on September 10, 1997. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters, the Blue Army, the Perry County Farm Bureau and was a faithful quilter for St. Bruno's.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph and his wife Betty and James and his wife Carol, all of Pinckneyville; son-in-law, David H. Degenhardt of Brookport, Bahamas; three daughters, Elizabeth Kellerman and her husband Al of Pinckneyville, Teresa Ann Klecker and her husband Joe of Watertown, Wis. and marguerite Spender and her husband Ronald of Pinckneyville; daughter-in-law, Barbara Giacomo of Pinckneyville; brother, Lawrence Epplin and wife Theresa of Pinckneyville; 33 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Edward J. Brand; daughter, Mary Degenhardt; grandson, Jason Spencer and three sisters, Bertha Loos, Gertrude Rheinecker and Martha Stern.

Friends called at St. Bruno Catholic Church on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until services. The Rosary was said at the church on Saturday at 8:45 a.m.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 21 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church with Fr. John Venegoni officiating. Interment was in St. Bruno Catholic cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Perry County or St. Bruno School Endowment Fund.

Arrangements were by Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville.

George W. Casleton
George W. Casleton, 74, of Gillespie, passed away at 6:29 a.m. Sunday, July 29, 2001 at home.

He was born on July 21, 1927 to Dora and Hiram Casleton in Elkville. They preceded him in death. On October 26, 1946, he married Bettie Jo Craig of Elkville; she survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Rodney Casleton of DuQuoin and Wade and wife Lori Casleton of Benton, Arkansas; three daughters, Connie and husband Gary Holtkamp of Edwardsville, Debbie and husband Jon Heil of granite City and Ginger and husband Randy Keeton of Waynesville, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Keri and husband Tony Proffitt, Cheryl and husband Jim Knobloch, Rod and wife Melissa Heil, Jennifer Heil, Adam and Aaron Keeton and Jarod and Jacob Casleton; five great-grandchildren, Cole and Brook Proffitt, McKenna and Morgan Knobloch and Christian Heil; three brothers, Harold and wife Doris Casleton, Ray and wife Marlene Casleton of Florida and Jeff and wife Jan Casleton of Alabama and one sister, Marceline and husband Bob Carlock of Florida.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1 at Irwin Funeral Home on Maryville Road in Granite City. Visitation was Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was at the Elkville cemetery.

Robert Joseph DiBenedetto
Robert Joseph DiBenedetto, 71, of Du Quoin died Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at 12:28 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Mr. DiBenedetto was a retired employee from Five Star. He was a member of the Du Quoin First Baptist.

He was born January 11, 1930 at Pinckneyville, son of Michael and Lettie (Miller) DiBenedetto. He married Joan M. Cutler on February 14, 1983 in Du Quoin.

Survivors include his wife, Joan DiBenedetto of Du Quoin; one brother, Lee DiBenedetto of Du Quoin; and one sister, Pauline Brant of Elkville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, half brother, Raymond Harris and a half sister Helen Harrell.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 14, 2001 at 1 p.m. at the Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Revs. Bob Dickerson and M. Shaw DeMent officiating.

Burial was at Mueller Hill cemetery in Pinckneyville.

Visitation was held at Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Friday, July 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. till time of the service.

Doris Louise Duncan
Doris Louise Duncan, 76, of DuQuoin, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2001 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Doris had worked for 37 years as a layout person for the duQuoin Call. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was born July 14, 1924 at Jackson, Mo., the daughter of Joe and Grace (VanAmburgh) Allen. She married Glynn H. Duncan on January 6, 1947 in Missouri and he preceded her in death on June 30, 1994.

She is survived by a daughter, April Kremer and husband Roger of DuQuoin; son, Jeff Duncan and wife Pam of Destin, Fla.; three brothers, Jim and Jerry Allen, both of Sikeston, Mo. and Don Allen of Ellington, Mo.; sister-in-law, Jane Allen of Christopher; five grandchildren, Alan Kremer and wife Jennifer, Lauri Gates and husband Mark, Will Kremer, Jennifer and Jared Duncan and four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Taylor, Nathanael, Kristen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Bill and John Allen.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 4 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Dennis Fitzsimmons officiating.

Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin.

Friends called Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Marshall Browning Hospital Hospice Room.

Irene Eisenhauer
Irene Eisenhauer, 94, DuQuoin, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2001 at 12:50 a.m. at Fair Acres Nursing Home.

Mrs. Eisenhauer had been a dry cleaners presser. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Elks.

She was born May 18, 1907 at DuQuoin, the daughter of Edward Joseph and Mary (Bergmann) Petry. She married Edward G. Eisenhauer on August 19, 1926 at DuQuoin and he preceded her in death in 1981.

Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, James and Wanda Petry of DuQuoin; one sister and brother-in-law, Anna Mae and Roy Hopp of Belleville; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Raymond and Gilbert and one sister, Aurelia.

Funeral services were Wednesday, August 1 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart cemetery.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home in DuQuoin on Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:45 a.m. at which time services will be moved to the church. The Rosary was said at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Henry Edward Eubanks
Henry Edward Eubanks, 83 of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2001 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Marion.

Henry was retired from Blue Bell Packing Co. after 23 years of service. He had also served as the Health Officer of the Du Quoin Police Department for 9 years.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin, the Sesser American Legion and a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association.

He answered the call of his country serving in the 325 Glider Infantry of the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army in W.W. II.

He was born April 23, 1918 at Sesser, IL the son of Quincy and Lola Mae (Short) Eubanks. He married Alice Marie Kinman on July 4, 1953 at Pinckneyville and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; two daughters - Ruth Belcher of Ft. Eustis, Virginia and Donna Anderson and husband Roy of Du Quoin; one son - Carl Eubanks and fiancee Laurie McClintock of Nashville; one sister - Mary Leona Inabnit and husband Tom of Sesser; six grandchildren - Kyle, Kristin and Kasey Anderson all of Du Quoin, Michael Belcher of Towson, MD, Pamela Furrow and husband Bill of Ft. Eustis, VA, John Belcher and wife Amber of Newport News, VA; four great-grandchildren - Katherine, Helen, Hannah Rose and Joseph Furrow; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2001 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating.

Friends calledfrom 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. The Rosary was said at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Interment was in the Sacred Heart cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Sacred Heart Church or the Sacred Heart School.

Military graveside rites were conducted by the Du Quoin VFW Post 513.

Helen Katherine Ferrari
Helen Katherine Ferrari, 77, of Zeigler, Illinois died at 1:46 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2001 at Herrin Hospital.

Mrs. Ferrari was born October 2, 1923 in Zeigler to Peter and Lillian (O'Brien) Arnott.

She married Guy "Guido" Ferrari in 1946 in Zeigler. He preceded her in death March 11, 1990.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Pat Ferrari of Du Quoin, Jeanne and Joe Krelo of Elkville; two grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Krelo of Elkville; a brother, Peter G. Arnott of Murphysboro; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Denton Brooks of Zeigler; a brother-in-law Jay Schuyler of Zeigler; seven nieces and nephews, Peter Schuyler, Dianne Schuyler and Phillip Schuyler all of Chicago, Susan Nikolich of Lake Barrington, John Schuyler of Herrin, Nancy Struzik and Dennis Brooks both of Dyer, Indiana; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Ferrari of Christopher and Glenice Ferrari of Berwyn; several grandnieces and nephews and two special friends, Margaret Hoey and Kay Cherry of Zeigler.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lillian Schuyler who died in 1965.

Mrs. Ferrari was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Zeigler. She was a charter member of the Zeigler Eagles Auxiliary and a member of the Zeigler American Legion Auxiliary.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ferrari were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2001 at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Father Brian Barker officiating. Burial was at St. Aloysius cemetery west of Royalton. Visiting hours were from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Ferrari may be made to the "Helen Ferrari memorial Scholarship" at Zeigler-Royalton High School.

George A. Foster
George A. Foster Sr., 82, of Du Quoin, died at 1 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2001 at his residence.

Mr. Foster was born October 21, 1918 in Du Quoin, the son of George B. and Katherine (LaGrand) Foster. He married Arlene Kunkel on April 27, 1946 at Du Quoin, and she survives.

He was a retired farmer and had worked at Du Quoin Packing Co. for 35 years. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin and the Adult Sunday School Class there. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a life member of Du Quoin V.F.W. Post 513.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Du Quoin; three sons, George A. Foster Jr. and wife Sharon, Fred Foster and wife Chris, and Dean Foster and wife Helen, all of Du Quoin; a sister, Geraldine Oestreicher of Du Quoin; grandchildren, George A. Foster III, Amy Hamburger and husband Larry, Shane Foster and wife Stephanie, Travis Foster and wife Amy J., Matthew Foster, Natalie Foster, Melanie Foster, and Stefanie Dawn Foster; step-grandchildren, Steven and Stephanie Lynn Knapp; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Bryce Hamburger, Sydney Gilliam, and Dalen Fosters; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law and a niece.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2001 at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Kevin Weaver officiating. Visitation was Sunday evening at the funeral home. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park, Du Quoin, with military graveside rites conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. Post 513.

Friends may make memorials to the St. John's United Church of Christ or the Perry County Hospice.

Beatrice Roznoski
Beatrice Roznoski, 82, of DuQuoin, passed away at 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at the Fair Acres Nursing Home in DuQuoin.

Bea was a retired nurse's aid at Marshall Browning Hospital. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church in DuQuoin and the Legion of Mary.

She was born February 3, 1919 at St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of William G. and Emma (Fehrt) Witte. She married Leo C. Roznoski on October 23, 1941 at St. Louis, Mo. He passed away August 9, 1985.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Deborah) Chastain of Sparta; a son, Donald Roznoski of DuQuoin; six grandchildren, Terry Chastain Jr., Christopher Chastain, Amanda Chastain, Christina Smith, Elizabeth and Jami Roznoski; two great-grandchildren, Melayna Chastain and Haley Chastain; one niece; one cousin and one sister-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters; two brothers and one grandson, Gregory Chastain.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, July 27 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DuQuoin with Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.

The Rosary was said at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Interment was in the Sacred Heart cemetery at DuQuoin.

Hazel Smith
Hazel Smith, 98, of Du Quoin, died at 11:28 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Fairview Nursing Center, Du Quoin.

Mrs. Smith was born February 3, 1902 in Du Quoin, the daughter of Scott and Florence Pleasant. She married Clarence Smith on June 22, 1922 in Du Quoin, and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and member of St. Paul Baptist Church.

Survivors include two nieces, Golda Miller of Inglewood, Cal. and Otella Pleasant of Du Quoin; and many great- and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 11 brothers and sisters.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2001 at the IOOF cemetery in Du Quoin with Rev. Leon Kelly officiating. Neal-McClure Funeral Home of Du Quoin was in charge of arrangements.

Maude Beamer Tenney
Maude Beamer Tenney was born on March 2, 1908 in Milton Freewater, Oregon, the youngest daughter of Samuel Mark Beamer and Julia Anne Jones, both of North Carolina. Maude was the valedictorian of her graduating class at the Kimberly High School in Idaho. while at Gooding College, she met her future husband Charles D. Tenney. She graduated from Gooding College, Gooding, Idaho with a BA degree in English and taught high school until he finished his degrees, then they moved to Carbondale in 1931.

Maude was a member of the SIU Faculty Women's Club, a Charter member of the JN Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Carbondale Women's Club. She was a Gray Lady of the Red Cross and a founding member of the community Concert Association for which she donated many hours of service and also to many other charitable activities.

She was an ardent bridge player and beloved by many. Maude Tenney is survived by Ruth Tenney Kerwath and her husband Richard, Helen Tenney Naumer and by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother Frank Beamer and a sister Katherine Wonacott.

Mrs. Tenney died at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001 at Parkway Manor, Marion, Ill. The funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2001 at Huffman-Harker Funeral Home. The visitation was from 12 Noon until time of service on Monday.

Burial at Oakland cemetery was private.

Donations may be made to the SIU-C Foundation to the Charles D. and Maude B. Tenney endowment fund for the benefit of Morris Library, Liberal Arts.

Marjorie P. Williams
Marjorie P. Williams, age 91, died July 4, 2001 in Robbinsdale, Minn.

Born in DuQuoin in 1909, she was the daughter of Nickolas and Ada (Combs) Pritchett. She was a resident of 502 S. Halliday in DuQuoin until 1964 when she moved to California. Marge was a former employee of the DuQuoin Evening Call and later worked as a cook at the former Moe's Cafe. She was a member of the DuQuoin First Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Betty Packard and Lucille Little; brothers, Clyde, Bernard and Nickolas and one grandson.

Surviving are her brother, Gilbert Pritchett of Carbondale; two daughters, Marilyn Sue Burnett of Valencia, Calif. and Alice (John) Magnotti of Dayton, Minn.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Rose Hills Mortuary in Whittier, Calif. on July 11, 2001.
