Kenneth Dempsey-Burger
Kenneth Dempsey-Burger, age 78, of Pinckneyville, died at 8 a.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Emergency Room on Thursday, August 23, 2001.
Kenny was born February 7, 1923 in Rice, the son of Adam and Emma (Dempsey) Burger. He worked as a maintenance worker for the local golf course.
Survivors include two nieces, Shannon Ellet and husband Ronny of Pinckneyville and Judy Alton of Belleville; several other great nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Burger and sister-in-law, Stella Burger; a sister, Della Oden and a brother-in-law, James Mansker.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 29 in the Trinity Assembly of God Church in Pinckneyville at 11 a.m. with Brother Raymond Baggott officiating. Interment was in the Oak Grove cemetery in Pinckneyville.
Visitation was held at the Trinity Assembly of God Church in Pinckneyville on Tuesday, August 28 from 6:30 until 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until services.
Memorials may be made to the Gold Plate Program.

James V. Gochenour
James V. Gochenour, 60, of Carbondale, formerly of DuQuoin, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2001 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.
James had been an employee at Five Star Industries in DuQuoin. He was a member of the White House Christian Church at Bridgeport.
He was born November 3, 1940 at Freeport, the son of Frank Virgil and Agnes Ann (Wells) Gochenour.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, ruth Gochenour of Indianola, Wash.; nephew, Frank Gochenour of Indianola, Wash.; his care givers, Terry and Kenny Williams and his many special friends at Five Star in DuQuoin and Little Willow in Carbondale. James came to live at Five Star in DuQuoin in January of 1985.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Neal Gochenour and niece, Sherril.
Funeral services were at 7 p.m. Sunday, August 5 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Bro. Jerry Aken officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.
Interment was in the Green Lawn cemetery at Vincennes, Ind.
James Gooden Jr.
James Gooden Jr., 71, of Pinckneyville, passed away Friday, August 3, 2001 at 9:30 p.m. in St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Gooden had been a Foreman at the Barber Sawmill.
He was born December 30, 1929 at Royalton, the son of James and Zethel (Morgan) Gooden Sr. He married
Barbara Bigler on October 31, 1959 at Pinckneyville.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara of Pinckneyville; sons, Jerry and wife Sandra of Steeleville, Roger and significant other Theresa of Pinckneyville and Thomas and wife Kelly of Pittsburg; daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Tom Engelhardt of Pinckneyville; sister, pat Eisenhauer of Vergennes; brothers, Bob Gooden of DuQuoin, Charles Gooden of Paxton, Bill Gooden of Herrin and Floyd Gooden of Carbondale and five grandchildren, Mike Gooden, Amy Gooden, Danni Gooden, Luke Rendleman and Dustin Engelhardt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tom.
Funeral services were Tuesday, August 7 at 11 a.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Gregory officiating. Interment was in McElvain cemetery at DuQuoin.

Olive Lucille Hepp
Olive Lucille Hepp, 86, formerly of 434 E. North St., DuQuoin, passed away at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at Fair Acres Nursing Home in DuQuoin.
Mrs. Hepp was a homemaker and a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.
She was born May 18, 1915 at Pinckneyville, the daughter of William and Edith (Huma) Bingel. She married
John H. Hepp on August 8, 1932 at Nashville and he preceded her in death on May 5, 1991.
Surviving are a daughter, Vera Willliams of DuQuoin and a grandson, Rick E. Williams Sr. and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services wereThursday, August 2 at 1 p.m. at Maxton Funeral Chapel in DuQuoin with Rev. Kevin Weaver officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.

Carl George Hottes
Carl George Hottes, 88, of DuQuoin, passed away Friday, August 3, 2001 at 7:45 a.m. at his home.
Mr. Hottes had been a Construction Superintendent and Foreman. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was the son of George and Sophia (Dierks) Hottes. He married
Clara E. Miller in DuQuoin and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, Carl Hottes of DuQuoin; one daughter, Joan Diederich of Pittsburgh, Penn.; two sisters, Ann Palmer of Panama City, Fla. and Flora Ragland of New Athens; one grandson, Aaron Hottes of DuQuoin; three granddaughters, Ann and Katherine Diederich and Gretchen Green and one great-grandson, Baby Christopher Hottes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister, Louise Voight.
Funeral services were Monday, August 6 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Msgr. Tom Miller officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart cemetery at DuQuoin.
Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home Sunday, August 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 7:30 to 9:45 a.m. at which time services will move to the church.

Dorothy Mae Hopkins
Dorothy Mae Hopkins, 85, of DuQuoin, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2001 at Marshall Browning Hospital.
Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of DuQuoin and a member of the DuQuoin VFW Auxiliary.
She was born March 21, 1916 at Chaffee, Mo., the daughter of John and Stella (Shepard) Bishop. She married
George Hopkins on January 10, 1943 at Perryville, Mo. and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of DuQuoin; daughter, Janet Hopkins of DuQuoin; son, John Hopkins of DuQuoin and five grandchildren, Debbie Hopkins, James Hopkins, Christopher Hopkins, Amy Hopkins and Michael Hopkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Virgil Bishop and sister, Lola Bishop.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 5 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin.

Ethel Luella Kames
Ethel Luella Kames, 87, of DuQuoin, passed away at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2001 at Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Mrs. Kames was a homemaker and a member of Faith Liberty Mission of DuQuoin. She had lived in DuQuoin for 51 years.
She was born June 17, 1914 at Sheller, the daughter of Clifford and Minnie (Caulder) Taylor. She married
Andrew P. Kames on June 14, 1930 at St. Louis, Mo. and he preceded her in death on January 26, 1976.
Surviving are one son, Dennie (Yovonnia) Kames of DuQuoin; four grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were Wednesday, August 15 at 11 a.m. at Maxton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Max Voyles officiating.
Friends called after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Interment was in Tamaroa cemetery.

Elva Arleen Brooks
Elva Arleen Brooks, 86, of DuQuoin, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2001 at the Fair View Nursing Center in DuQuoin.
Arleen had been a Nurse's Aid at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in DuQuoin. She had attended Pinckneyville High School.
She was born March 11, 1915 at DuQuoin, the daughter of James Harvey and Lena Bertha (Holden) Wilks. She married
Hallie Brooks on June 1, 1932 at Pinckneyville. He passed away May 12, 1967.
She is survived by two sons, William L. Brooks and wife Charlene of DuQuoin, Robert A. Brooks and wife Marilyn of Tamaroa; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and three brothers, Albert, Leon and Norman.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 11 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Steve Bareis officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park at DuQuoin.

Norvel Eugene Mabus
Norvel Eugene Mabus, 90, of Sesser, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2001 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Mr. Mabus had worked at Blue Bell Packing Plant and Farming. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was born January 27, 1911 at Sesser, the son of Ernest and Frances (Thompson) Mabus. He was married
to Mildred Mabus for 60 years.
Surviving are a son, David and wife Sandra Mabus of Washington; grandchildren, Diana and husband Dave Tellor of Morton and Don Mabus of Peoria; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kaitlyn Tellor and Shane and Samantha Mabus and a sister, Della Brooks of Belleville. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were Monday, August 6 at 11 a.m. at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser. Interment was in Maple Hill cemetery.

John H. Wright
John H. Wright, 66, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2001 at 9:31 a.m. at his home.
Mr. Wright had been a truck driver owner and operator leased to PBX Trucking Co. of Dakota City, Nebraska. He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Mayfield, Ky. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was active in the Auxiliary Police in Mayfield, Ky. for several years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was born June 3, 1935 at Hallidayboro, the son of Hance And Martha (Beard) Wright. He first married
Joyce A. Heller on December 11, 1959 and she preceded him in death on September 13, 1981. He then married
Joyce A. Hayes Colclasure Balsover on December 26, 1992 at Mt. Vernon and she survives.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce A. Wright of Mt. Vernon; daughter, Julia Wright Balsover and husband Thomas J. of Mt. Vernon; son, John Michael Wright of Nashville, Tenn.; step-sons, J.R. Colclasure and wife Valerie of Canyon Lake, Texas and Thomas J. Balsover and wife Julia of Mt. Vernon; step-daughter, Lisa A. Rollison of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Amber Miller, Corey Hariss, Jaynell Rollison, Michaela Rollison, Jason Colclasure, Michael Colclasure, Salena Colclasure Campbell and Mason Balsover; two great-grandchildren; brother, Ben H. Wright of DuQuoin; sisters, Mary E. Slover of LaGrange, Ill. and Nancy Dunbar and husband Bob of Everett, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; one son, Jeffrey Wright; one brother, Harold E. Wright and a step-son-in-law, Doc Rollison.
Graveside services were Tuesday, August 28 at 1 p.m. at Old Shiloh cemetery with Rev. David Shores officiating.
Visitation was at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening.
Those attending the graveside service were asked to go directly to the cemetery on Tuesday afternoon.

Dolores Marlow
Dolores "Johnnie' Marlow, age 71, of Pinckneyville, passed away Wednesday evening, August 22, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Johnnie was born August 5, 1930 in Pinckneyville, the daughter of Harry adn Verda O. (King) Kelley. She was united in marriage to Donald R. Marlow on August 5, 1961 in Pinckneyville and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1996. Johnnie was a member of the St. Bruno Catholic Churcch in Pinckneyville and a lifelong resident of Pinckneyville. She was also a member of the Moose and Eagle Lodge Auxiliary in Pinckneyville.
Johnnie is survived by her nephew, Brent Gruner and his wife Anita of Florida and an aunt, Kathleen King of Murphysboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Marietta Gruner.
Memorial graveside services were held Thursday, August 30 at 10 a.m. at the Campbell cemetery in Pinckneyville with Father Trevor Murry officiating.
