Betty June Milam
Betty June Milam, 75, of 809 N. Madison St., died at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at the Franklin Hospital, Benton.

Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton with the Pastor Thad Woodside officiating. Burial was in the Masonic and Odd Fellows cemetery, Benton. Visitation was from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Milam was born on Jan. 18, 1926 in Oaktown, IN, the daughter of John Henry Hiatt and Goldie Marie (Meek) Hiatt. She married Bill Milam on Oct. 14, 1947 and he survives.

Mrs. Milam was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church, Benton.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Tammy Woodside and husband Thad, DuQuoin, a son, Rick Milam and wife Mary, Benton, five grandchildren, Curtis Hodge and Lucas Tyler Meadows, both of DuQuoin, Ryan Douglas Milam, Erica June Milam and Daniel Reed Milam, all of Benton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Donald Hiatt and Lee Hiatt, and a sister, LaVaughn.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, 301 South Main Street, Benton, IL 62812 was in charge of arrangements.

Albert L. Heine
Albert L. Heine, age 86, of Pinckneyville, died in Sparta Community Hospital on Saturday, July 14, 2001 at 6:38 a.m.

Albert was born in Perry County on October 15, 1918, the son of Frank L. and Mary (Fones) Heine. He married Imal B. Smith on September 21, 1935 in Pinckneyville and she survives. Albert worked as a farmer and was a custodian at the Pinckneyville Community High School until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville, the Farm Bureau and the American Thresherman Association.

Survivors include his wife Imal of Pinckneyville; four sons, Jack Heine and wife Mary, Larry Heine and wife Marsha, Thomas Heine and wife Carol and Ronnie Heine and wife Sherrie, all of Pinckneyville; four daughters, Darlene Mitchell and husband Lowell of Coulterville, Marilyn Martin and husband Joe of Pinckneyville, Janet Drake and husband Charles of Chatham and Donna Moore and husband Leon of Pinckneyville; two brothers, Everett Heine and wife Marie of Tamaroa and Bill Heine and wife Lillie of Columbia; one sister, Ruth May Heine of DuQuoin; 27 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and one grandson.

Visitation was held at the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until services.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville on Tuesday, July 17 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Maurice Swinford and Rev. James Bush officiating.

Interment was in the Mueller-Hill cemetery at Pinckneyville.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville was in charge of services.

Jack Opp
Jack Opp., 69, of DuQuoin, passed away Monday, July 2, 2001 at 1:28 a.m. at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Mr. Opp was a retired coal miner and had worked at the DuQuoin meat packing plant. He was a member of Sunfield Baptist Church.

He was born February 24, 1932 at St. John's, the son of Verbon and Lucille (Downs) Opp. He married Katherine Lynch on August 5, 1950 at DuQuoin.

Mr. Opp was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing, hunting and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Katie Opp of DuQuoin; two daughters, Karen Osborn of Fresno, Calif. and Judy Beckham of DuQuoin; three grandchildren, Jennifer Lively, Matthew Beckham and Andrew Beckham, all of DuQuoin, and two great-grandchildren, Michelle Davis and Alexis O'Keefe, both of DuQuoin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Vernon Opp and wife Marie and one nephew, Jeff Opp.

Funeral services were Thursday, July 5 at 1 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Everett Freeman officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park at DuQuoin.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until time of services.

Friends may make memorials to the American Heart Association.

Minnie Ruth Ibendahl
Minnie Ruth Ibendahl, 80, of Nashville, entered rest at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24 at the Washington County Hospital in Nashville.

She was born on November 24, 1920 in DuQuoin, the daughter of Charles e. and OTillie Keiner Bahre. She married Nelson J. Ibendahl on August 28, 1940 in DuQuoin.

She is survived by her husband Nelson of Nashville; three sons, John E. (Barbara) Ibendahl of Oakdale, Ralph (Joyce) Ibendahl of Oakdale and David N. (Natalie) Ibendahl of Nashville; two daughters, Ruth Ann (Ed) Nelson of Hamilton, Ohio and Carolyn Sue Horvath of Titusville, Florida; a sister, Carolyn Grear of Swanwick; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Bahre of Nashville; 14 grandchildren; nine grandchildren spouses; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles K. Bahre and a brother-in-law, Russell Grear.

Mrs. Ibendahl was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Nashville where she was active in the Women's Guild and Dorcas Circle. She was a member of the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary; a 4-H leader, Washington County Home Bureau, Washington Farm Bureau and the Farm Bureau Prime Timers group.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 27 at the St. Paul United Church of Christ with Rev. Mark Buck officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery. Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and again from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Friday at the Styninger-Krupp Funeral Home in Nashville and one hour prior to service at the church.

Memorials may be made to her church, the American Diabetes Association or the Washington County Hospital Extended Care.

Jamie Marie Eggemeyer
Jamie Marie Eggemeyer, 19, of Chester, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001 at 10:02 a.m. at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Miss Eggemeyer was a student and of the Baptist faith. She was born October 12, 1982 in Perth, Australia, the daughter of Herbert Joe Eggemeyer and Doreen Sanders.

Surviving are her father, Herbert Joe Eggemeyer of Chester; mother, Doreen Eggemeyer of Chester; brother, Herbert Joe Eggemeyer Jr. of Chester; sister, Sara Jane Eggemeyer of Chester; paternal grandparents, Herbert and Joyce Eggemeyer of Walsh; maternal grandfather, Robert Sanders of DuQuoin and paternal great-grandmother, Mary Asbury of Chester.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother.

Funeral services were Monday, July 9 at 10 a.m. at Schroeder-McClure Funeral Chapel in Chester with Rev. Martin R. Springer officiating.

Visitation was Sunday July 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 7:30 a.m. until time of services.

Burial was in Evergreen cemetery at Chester.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Sanchez Robinson
Sanchez Robinson, 14, of DuQuoin, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2001 at 5:29 p.m. He drowned in a strip mine pit northwest of DuQuoin.

Sanchez was a student and a member of A.M.E. Zion Methodist Church.

He was born October 15, 1986, the son of David Jones and Beverly Robinson.

Surviving are his mother, Beverly Cain of DuQuoin; one brother, Travis Robinson of DuQuoin; one sister, ShyDia Robinson of DuQuoin; grandmother, Birdie Robinson of DuQuoin; four aunts; two uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents and one brother, Caleb Jones.

Funeral services were Thursday, June 14 at 1 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel in DuQuoin

Interment was in the IOOF cemetery in DuQuoin.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home Thursday, June 14 from 11 a.m. until time of services.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Kenneth J.P. Grohman
Kenneth J.P. Grohman, age 87, of Granite City, formerly of rural Tamaroa, passed away Monday morning, July 2, 2001 at 3:29 a.m. in the Eden Village Nursing Home in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Kenneth was born December 1, 1913 in Pinckneyville, the son of Ben L. and Ida H. (Linze) Grohman. He was united in marriage to Ina Grace Snowden in Pinckneyville on January 16, 1936 and she preceded him in death on February 18, 2001. Kenneth was employed as a coal miner, was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

Kenneth is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline "Jacque' Y. DeWitt and husband Kenneth of Granite City, Ill. and Judith "Judy' Kay Smith and husband Richard of Lakewood, Wash.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eileen yeager of Pinckneyville, Adele Gilley of Pinckneyville and Benaleen Schafale of Belleville. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ina Grace; two brothers, Raymond and Eugene and a sister, Ruth Groskreutz.

Funeral services were Friday, July 6 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Herbert Schafale officiating. Interment was in Mueller Hill cemetery, Pinckneyville.

Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville Thursday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. and again on

Friday morning from 8 until 10:30 a.m. then at the church until services.

Memorials may be made to the Hoyleton Children's Home in Hoyleton, , Ill.

Emma Lois Rush
Emma Lois Rush, 75, of Du Quoin and formerly of Nashville, Tenn. died at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2001 at the Marshall Browning Hospital emergency room.

Mrs. Rush was born August 28, 1925 in Nashville, Tenn., the daughter of Andrew and Margaret Louise (Huffman) Roberson. She married Eldred Lane Rush on May 28, 1994 in Du Quoin. She was a hospital housekeeper and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Eldred Rush of Du Quoin; three sons, Jonny Bryan of Knoxville, Tenn., and Robert Clay Kemp and James Michael Kemp, both of Nashville, Tenn.; four daughters, Vickie Baker of Du Quoin, and Melissa Gannon, Wanda Simpson and Patricia Taylor, all of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Floyd Roberson of Franklin, Tenn.; two sisters, Bibby Hagar of Nashville, Tenn. and Martha Cates of Hendersonville, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, a grandson, two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at Woodbine Funeral Home in Nashville, Tenn. Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial was in Chapel Hill cemetery in Nashville.

The Neal-McClure Funeral Home in Du Quoin was in charge of local arrangements.

Earl Sills
Earl Sills, 80, of Elkville, passed away at 11:07 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Earl had retired as a custodian at the Elkville Grade School after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Elkville Baptist Church.

He was born September 20, 1920 in Williamson County, the son of Thomas and Elnora (Webb) Sills. He married Thelma R. Hunt on March 25, 1944 at Marion and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Elkville; two sons, Thomas E. Sills and wife Dorothy of Sauk Centre, Minn. and Harold Ray Sills of Elkville; two grandchildren, John Sills and Wendy Middendorf; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Maddie Sue Middendorf.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27 at the Elkville Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Hill officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin and from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church on Friday.

Interment was in the DeSoto cemetery.

Friends may make memorials to the Elkville Baptist Church.

Roy B. Swallers
Roy B. Swallers, 93, of DuQuoin, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001 at the Fair View Nursing Center in DuQuoin.

Roy was a retired butcher at DuQuoin Packing Co. where he had worked 40 years. He as a Protestant.

He was born September 20, 1907 at Mulkeytown, the son of William and Addie (Boll) Swallers. He married Lucille Wright on October 29, 1927 at DuQuoin. She passed away October 25, 1965.

He is survived by two sons, Jim Swallers and wife Nila of DuQuoin, Bob Swallers and wife Betty of DuQuoin; five grandchildren, Dale Swallers, Steve Swallers and wife Cheryl, Rick Swallers, Rod Swallers, Robin Turrell and husband Greg; eight great-grandchildren, Rachael Swallers, Matthew B. Swallers, Heather Isaacs, Shane Swallers, Brant Swallers, Matthew A. Swallers, Nathan Turrell, Katie Turrell; three great-great-grandchildren, Zachery, Brocklyn, Kiara.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Carl S. Mesiti officiating.

Friends called from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.

Interment was in the Old DuQuoin cemetery at DuQuoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Fair View Nursing Activity Fund or the American Heart Association.

Barney L. Woolsey
Barney L. Woolsey, 65, beloved husband of Patricia Maher Woolsey of Melrose, died suddenly on Monday, July 2, 2001 at his residence from a heart attack.

Born on January 15, 1936 in DuQuoin, Ill. he was the son of the late Barney and Beulah Wright Woolsey. Mr. Woolsey was a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving from 1956 to 1962. He had retired 10 years ago from the Gezy Refinery Plant in Rensselaer, where he had been superintendent over 30 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Laura Woolsey of Schenectady, Amy Callahan of Grayslake, Ind., David Woolsey of Manhanan and the late Matthew Woolsey; granddaughter, Christa Callahan of Melrose; brothers, Jim, Gary and Jerry Woolsey, all of DuQuoin; sisters, Margie Provart of DuQuoin, Eileen Todd of Lowell, Ind. and Donna Adams of Boynton Beach, Fla. and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral was held Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Sandridge Funeral Home, Inc., 58 Leversee Road (Rt. 40), Speigletown.

Relatives and friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Interment with full military honors was held in Saratoga National cemetery, Schuylerville.

Helen Anderson
Helen Anderson, 92, of Gibson City, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Sunday, August 19, 2001 at The Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Gibson City.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gibson City. She moved to Gibson City in 1979.

Mrs. Anderson was born July 13, 1909 at Cutler, the daughter of Henry and Mary Catherine (Craig) Brown. She married Kyle Anderson on August 10, 1932 at St. Charles, Mo. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1967.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Jane (Robert) Hill of Gibson City; one son, Thomas C. (Beverly) Anderson of Carmel, Indiana; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 22 at Lamb Funeral Home, 303 N. Church St. in Gibson City, with Rev. Randall Robinson officiating. Interment was in Tamaroa cemetery in Tamaroa at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 23.

Visitation was Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m. at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
