Earlene Moody
Earlene (Endsley) Moody, 86, of Granite City, Illinois, died Friday, June 22, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville.
She was born May 5, 1915, in Du Quoin. Mrs. Moody was a member of the First Christian Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Harris of Hammond, Indiana; one daughter, Janet Lee Oberle of Granite City; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Moody on July 26, 1997; her parents, Thomas and Emma (Williams) Endsley; and one sister, Edna Mae Phipps.
Private services were held.
Burial was in Du Quoin cemetery in Du Quoin.

John A. Burbes
John A. Burbes, 78, of O'Fallon, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 3, 2001 at Garden View Care Center in O'Fallon, Missouri.
Mr. Burbes was born December 11, 1922 in Illinois.
Mr. Burbes was an Estimator for the Government. He had been employed by DMAC for 15 years in St. Louis, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army from March 1, 1943 to August 1, 1943.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Burbes of St. Charles, Mo.; a son, Jerry A. Burbes of Wentzville, Mo.; two daughters, Rebecca S. Burbes of Georgetown, Texas and Ruth Tedrick of St. Charles, Mo.; brother, William E. Burbes of Decatur; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mary Burbes and his first wife, June Burbes.
Funeral services were Thursday, September 6 at 10 a.m. at Baue Funeral & Memorial Center Chapel in St. Charles, Mo. Interment was in St. Charles Memorial Gardens in St. Charles, Mo.
Visitation was held at Baue Funeral and memorial Center on Wednesday, September 5 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Ralph Eugene Cook III
Ralph Eugene Cook III, 58, of Tuscola, Ill., formerly of DuQuoin, died at 10 a.m. Sunday, September 2, 2001 at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 5 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 S. Main St., Tuscola, with the Rev. Elizabeth Killen officiating. Visitation was held from 6 - 8 p.. Tuesday, September 4 at the funeral home. Burial was in the Tuscola cemetery.
Mr. Cook was born May 31, 1943 in DuQuoin, the son of Ralph E. and Mildred Pauline Davis Cook Jr. He married
Marilyn Ann Lewis on August 8, 1960 in Tuscola. She survives.
Other survivors include, one son, Stephen Cook of Tuscola; one daughter, Sue Carter of Tuscola; six grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Cook of Illiopolis and his father, Ralph E. Lewis Jr. of DuQuoin.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

Mr. Cook was a meat cutter at the Tuscola IGA where he had been employed since 1984. He formerly worked at Green's IGA in DuQuoin for 15 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscola, Tuscola Moose Lodge and the Champaign County Bass Masters Club.
James Calvin Ralston
James Calvin (Bud) Ralston, 70, of DuQuoin, passed away at 4:53 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2001 at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.
James was a retired T. Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force, serving 23 1/2 years. He served in the Korean Conflict, Vietnam Conflict and the Berlin Airlift. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a former member of the VFW and the American Legion.
He was born August 23, 1930 at Cora, Ill. the son of Charley and Lettie (Phillips) Ralston. He was first married
to Iris Brook. He then married
June George on December 29, 1976 at DuQuoin and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of DuQuoin; four children, Glen Ralston of Washington, D.C., Dean Ralston of DuQuoin, Carla Pestka of College Park, Md. and Donna McGovern and husband Larry of Silver Spring, Md.; step-daughter, Crystal Davison and husband Thomas of Pinckneyville; one brother, Carl Ralston and wife Leta of South Houston, Tex.; two sisters, Ruth Morrison of Friendswood, Tex. and Opal Wayer and husband Alfred of DuQuoin; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, four sisters, one granddaughter and one grandson.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 7 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park at DuQuoin.
Full military graveside rites were conducted by Scott Air Force Base.

Marcella R. Dalman
Marcella R. Dalman, 89, of DuBois, passed away at 6 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2001 at the Washington County Hospital Extended Care in Nashville.
Marcella was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois, Catholic Daughters of Americas, St. Theresa Sodality.
She was born December 12, 1911 at DuBois, the daughter of Walter and Cecelia (Zelasko) Szabelski. She married
Edward Dalman on August 19, 1934 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of DuBois; son, Jerry Dalman and wife Charlotte of DuBois; sister, Dorothy Stern of Nashville; sister-in-law, Silverine Szabelski of DuBois; two grandsons, Jim Dalman and Joe Dalman, both of Nashville; six great-grandchildren, Drew, Dayton, Jamie, Craig, Courtney and Jaris.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jerome Szabelski.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 6 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois with Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa. The Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment was in the St. Charles cemetery at DuBois.

Tessie P. Danner
Tessie P. Danner, 83, of Fairview Nursing Center in DuQuoin, formerly of Summum, Ill., passed away Monday, September 24, 2001 at 11:20 p.m. at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Danner was born April 27, 1918 at Summum, the daughter of Frank and Pearl (Thomas) Shawgo. She married
Chester Danner on September 30, 1939 at Palmyra, Mo. and he preceded her in death on January 16, 1991.
Mrs. Danner was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church in DuQuoin. She had attended the Gold Plate Senior Center for many years.
Surviving are one son, Floyd (Linda) Danner of DuQuoin; grandsons, Steve (Betsy) Danner of DuQuoin, David Danner of Fairview Heights and Mark Danner of Fairview Heights; three grandchildren, Steve Jr., Zak and Alayna and one sister, Lela Landis of Canton.
Funeral services were Thursday, September 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reverend Ken Peterson officiating. Interment was in Summum cemetery.
Friends called one hour prior to services at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.

J.F. Schroeder
J. F. Schroeder, age 83, of Tucson, Ariz., died in the Eldorado Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. on Monday, August 20, 2001.
He was born in Pinckneyville on October 4, 1917, the son of Charles and Sophia (Ahlers) Schroeder. He was a graduate of the Pinckneyville schools and was a member of the P.C.H.S. basketball team that made the school's first trip to the state tournament in Champaign in 1935.
He served in the 726th Railway Battalion in India during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in January 1946, he went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad in Douglas, Ariz. and Tucson, Ariz. and later in El Paso, Tex. To his co-workers in the west, he was known as "Jake' Schroeder. To his classmates and friends in Pinckneyville, he was known as "Flop' Schroeder. For the last two years, he had been living with his daughter, Pam, in Tucson, Ariz.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra Smith and husband Forrest Smith of Evergreen, Colo. and Pamela Schroeder of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Stacy Davis, Cindy Riordan and Todd Contreras; three great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl Schroeder and two sisters, Adele Schroeder and Helen Ziegler.
Funeral services were held at the St. Paul United Church of Christ on Saturday, August 25, 2001 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Karen Stahr Terada officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill cemetery in Pinckneyville.
Visitation was held at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until services.

Virdell N. Deering
Virdell N. Deering, 77, of DuBois, passed away at 10 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2001 at her residence in DuBois.
Virdell was a homemaker and a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois, Catholic Daughters of America, Thursday Night Pinochle Club, AARP and Washington County Democrat Club.
She was born September 23, 1924 at DuBois, the daughter of William E. and Sophie L. (Kroeger) Heck. She married
Ernest Deering on May 4, 1946 at Sparta, Wisc. and he passed away March 11, 1998.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Deering of Springfield, two sons, Gerald Deering and wife Cheryl of DuBois and Richard Deering and wife Crystal of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Reita Deering of DuBois; five sisters, Frances Biesk of Tamaroa, Helen Kurtz of DuBois, Hilda Wojtowicz of DuBois, Evelyn Kostecki of DuBois and Martha Rulevish of Tamaroa; brother, Vernon Heck of Tamaroa; eight grandchildren, Bridgett and Yvette Deering of DuBois, Greyson, Clayton and Allyssa Deering of DuBois, Andrew, Matthew and Luke Deering of Indianapolis, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Rep. Terry W. Deering; granddaughter; brother William P. Heck.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m Thursday, October 4 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois with Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo officiating.

Ethel A. Morgan
Ethel A. Morgan, 89, of DuQuoin, passed away at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2001 at Fair Acres Nursing Home in DuQuoin.
Ethel was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Church.
She was born September 24, 1911 at Tamaroa, the daughter of William F. and Elizabeth (Hackney) Newhouse.
She married
George A. Morgan on July 2, 1929 at Nashville. He passed away May 21, 1978.
She is survived by one son, Harry E. Morgan and wife Millie of DuQuoin; daughter-in-law, Virginia Morgan of Herrin; three grandchildren, Debra L. (Morgan) Herron and husband James of Kansas, Randy E. Morgan and wife Rhonda of Marion and Kristen L. Morgan of Chicago; four great-grandchildren, Jeremy Herron of Kansas, Justin Morgan of Carterville, Travis Morgan and Corey Morgan of Marion; three great-great-grandchildren, Josh Herron of Kansas, Bailee and Brockton Morgan of Marion; four sisters, Olene Scorza, Mary Tacher and Anita Stanton, all of California and Verda Morris of Michigan; one brother, Ike Newhouse and wife Sue of Georgia and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, William A. Morgan; six sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, August 10 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Charles Smith officiating.

Interment was in the Round Prairie cemetery at Tamaroa.

John Weatherford Jr.
John Weatherford Jr., age 76, of Pinckneyville, passed away Saturday morning, August 4, 2001 in the Pinckneyville Healthcare Center.
John was born January 31, 1925 in Pinckneyville, the son of John P. and Mary Jane (Mansker) Weatherford. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Lee Silbe on April 16, 1948 and she survives.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Army during W.W. II, worked as a coal miner with Arch Minerals of Pinckneyville and was a member of the UMWA. He was also a member of the Beaucoup Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Pinckneyville. He was a lifelong resident of Pinckneyville.
John is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Pinckneyville; one son, Jon Weatherford and wife Jeannie, also of Pinckneyville; one daughter, Leah Weatherford and husband Ron of Chicago; two brothers, Frank Weatherford and wife Laura and Robert Weatherford, both of Pinckneyville; two sisters, Mary Jane Weatherford of Pinckneyville and Junabeth Brunson and husband Fred of Belleville; four grandchildren, Lori Weatherford, Kari Forshee, Marty Powelko and Ryan Erwin and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Hagston, Sidney Forshee and Cooper Forshee. John was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Howard.
Funeral services were Tuesday, August 7 at 11 a.m. at the Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville with Reverend James O. Mathenia officiating. Interment was in the Mueller Hill cemetery in Pinckneyville.
Friends called at the Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville Monday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. until services.
