David F. Drone
David F. Drone, 62, of Las Cruces, N.M., formerly of Ridgway and Harrisburg, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born in Ridgway on May 26, 1939, to the late Eugene and Helen Drone.
He was employed by Sutherlands in Las Cruces and was loved by many. We will surely miss his unique personality, sense of humor, and caring nature.
Mr. Drone is survived by his wife Ana, daughters Lisa Pickering, Goldsboro, N.C., Valerie Baginski and husband Brian, Bayville, N.J.; granddaughter Brittany Bernier, Bayville, N.J.; stepsons J.D. Pierson, Tucson, Ariz., Barry Pierson, Las Cruces, N.M.; five brothers, Max (Bernadine) Drone, McLeansboro, Russell (Donna) Drone, Carrier Mills, Gary (Margot) Drone, Walla Walla, Wash., Fred (Barbara) Drone, Meadville, Pennsylvania, Dan Drone, Ridgway; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass was held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, Las Cruces, N.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his name to your local hospice organizations.
Gladys A. Bottomley
Gladys A. Bottomley, 92, 1305 S. Webster St., Harrisburg, died 3:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001 at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
She was born June 30, 1909 in Dayton, Wyo., the daughter of William and Julia Wondra. She married
Joseph "Art" Bottomley, who preceded her in death July 4, 1992.
The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg. The Rev. Dennis Doane will officiate.
She was a member of the Women's Society of the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg. She was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood and the Harrisburg Women's Club.
She is survived by a son, William J. Bottomley, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two grandchildren, Kimberly Radtke, Atlanta, and James W. Bottomley, Oveido, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Colton and Blake Bottomley.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Gladys and Art Bottomley Scholarship Fund at the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Norma Warren
Norma Warren, 62, Harrisburg, died at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Galatia.
She was born March 17, 1939 in Saline County, the daughter of Ted and Cleta Irene (Hughes) Warren, who preceded her in death.
Graveside service is 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at Ingram Hill cemetery. The Rev. Ted B. Warren will officiate. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2001 at Sloan Funeral Home, Galatia.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
She is survived by two brothers, the Rev. Ted B. (Sharon) Warren and Steven L. Warren; three nephews, Jay, Jeff and Jerry Warren; two nieces, Lisa and Ashley Warren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded her in death by one brother, William Wayne Warren.
Phillip 'Eddie' Hunt, Jr.
Phillip "Eddie" Hunt, Jr., 49, of Chandler, Ind., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at his residence from cancer.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Oak Hill Christian Center with the Rev. Jerry Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Maumee cemetery in Johnson, Ind. Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel in Evansville, Ind.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, parents, and father-in-law and mother-in-law.
Walter Gibbs
Walter Gibbs, 86, Carmi, formerly of Macedonia, died 10:10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at Christian Retirement Center, Carmi.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at Gholson funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Mark Lee will officiate. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001 at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, one daughter, four brothers, one sister, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Aurby M. 'Jack' Falk
Aurby M. "Jack" Falk, 86, of Eldorado, died 4 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.
He was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Eldorado, the son of the late Jess and Dicy (Hobbs) Falk. He married
Lorene Falk on May 1, 1937, in Eldorado. They shared 64 years together. She survives.
Mr. Falk was retired after 32 years of employment with the Unite Food and Commercial Workers AFL-CIO.
He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Social Brethren No. 2 Church in Raleigh.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. Service is 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2001, at the funeral home. The Rev. Hubert Bradley will officiate. Burial is in Raleigh Masonic cemetery. The Rev. Hubert Bradley will officiate.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Aurby E. (Dianna) Falk of Eldorado; a daughter, Patricia Bradley (Harold) Olney; a brother, Carl Lee (Freedia) Falk of Angier, N.C.; three grandchildren, Marsha Falk of Eldorado, Rhonda Bradley Iker of Southern Pines, N.C., Harold Gene (Ethel) Bradley Jr. of Central Ind.; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Tom Falk; a sister, Mary Davis; and a grandson, Kevin Falk.
Robert 'Fletch' Edward Fletcher
Robert "Fletch" Edward Fletcher, 73, of 312 E. Walnut St., Harrisburg, died 3 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 13, 1927, in Harrisburg, the son of the late Cicero Patterson and Ova Edwards Fletcher.
He was a WWII Navy veteran who had served in Korea. He was retired and was a self-employed printer.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Mr. Fletcher donated his body to the SIUC School of Medical Science. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Gaskins Funeral Home of Harrisburg is in charge of the local arrangements.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Fletcher of Clovis, Calif., Robert Allen Fletcher of Fresno, Calif.; three daughters, Robin Fletcher of Aurora, Kimberly Fletcher of Racine, Wis., Kelly Fletcher of Racine, Wis.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Rev. J.D. McCarty
Rev. J.D. McCarty, 82, of Energy, died 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at his home.
He was born April 14, 1919, in Williamson County, the son of the late Joe and Betty (Armstrong) McCarty. He married
Juanita Flener Boren on Feb. 25, 1945, in New Orleans, La. They spent 56 wonderful years together. She survives.
Mr. McCarty joined the Navy during WWII and spent four years serving his country. He was part of the invasion of Sicily, Italy. J.D. served both God and his country with honor. J.D. was a wonderful father and husband. He was a witness until death.
J.D. entered the ministry in 1951. He graduated from SIU-C in Carbondale and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Rev. McCarty pastored seven churches in Illinois, Texas, and Missouri. The first was Pleasant Ridge Baptist, East of Cobden for three years, next was McKinley Ave. in Harrisburg for three and one half years, third was Azel Creek Baptist in Azel, Texas for three years, fourth was Marion Second Baptist for nine years. fifth was St. Johns in St. Louis for nine years, sixth, he started a mission in St. Peters, Mo., called Oak Ridge Baptist, and last was the Herrin Second Baptist Church for three years. After his retirement in 1985, J.D. served as interim pastor of seven different churches. His current membership was at the Second Baptist Church in Herrin.
Visitation is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin and will continue at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at the Second Baptist Church in Herrin. Service is 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at the church. The Revs. Brad Harlow and Bill Fox will co-officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to TIP Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
In addition to his wife, Juanita McCarty of Energy, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Phillip Dean and Barbara Boren of Carmi, Bill and Willene McCarty of Steelville; four grandchildren, Lisa (David) DeMaster of Houston, Texas, Linda (David) Given of Carmel, Ind., Laura (Leo) DeFrenne of Thebes, Leslie Locke of Carmi; three great-grandchildren, Chase Allen DeMaster of Houston, Texas, Adam and Rachel Given of Carmel, Ind.; a sister, Nadine (Robert) Vick of Herrin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gladys and Bob Oman of Sun City, Ariz., Virginia and Niles Leach of Energy, Betty Heckman of Huntington Beach, Calif; and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Lester McCarty, and three sisters, Olene O'Donnell, Wilma McCarty, and Pauline McCarty.
Kenneth 'Kenny' Dale Brothers
Kenneth "Kenny" Dale Brothers, 62, of 511 S. Jackson St., Carterville, formerly of Harrisburg, died 11:58 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 17, 1938, in Harrisburg, the son of the late Kenneth Robert and Wilma Juanita (Tolbert) Brothers. He married
Donna Jenkins in Harrisburg on Dec. 17, 1960. She survives.
Kenny retired in 1993 from Western-Southern Life Insurance Company after 32 years of service. He was most recently employed in the paint department at Wal-Mart in Marion. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1959. He attended the Energy First Baptist Church.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Riggins-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville. Service is 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at Energy First Baptist Church in Energy. The Rev. Jim Wright will officiate. Burial is in Blairsville cemetery in Blairsville. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Energy First Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Donna Brothers of Carterville, he is survived by two sons, Bob (Amy) Brothers of Carterville, Brent (Raina) Brothers of Carterville; a daughter, Cindy (Ron) Brown of Carterville; a sister, Judy Barger of Carterville; five grandchildren whom he loved deeply, Jessica Brown, Danielle Brown, Lindsey Brothers, Sidney Brothers, and Trent Brothers, all of Carterville; a mother-in-law, Juanita Wallace of Carterville; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
