Jack F. Hanks
Jack F. Hanks, 66, of Harrisburg, died 2:46 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001, at his home.
He was born Feb. 12, 1935, in Harrisburg, the son of Gilbert and Avo (Hancock) Hanks. He married
Carol Gates on Jan. 5, 1957. She survives.
Jack was retired after 34 years of employment as an assistant roller for Coal Roll Finish No. 3 at U.S. Steel, Sheet and Tin Mill in Gary, Ind.
He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Harrisburg.
He was also a member of SOAR, Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Service is 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2001, at the funeral home. The Rev. J.R. Sellers will officiate. Burial is in Sunset Lawn cemetery in Harrisburg.
In addition to his wife Carol Hanks of Harrisburg, he is survived by three sons, Jack A. Hanks of Harrisburg, Gregory (Melodie) Hanks of Carrier Mills, Roger Hanks of Harrisburg; three granddaughters, Danielle Hanks of Perryville, Mo., Casandra Hanks of Perryville, Mo., and Buffy Partain of Carrier Mills; a great-granddaughter, Jaimee Partain of Carrier Mills; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hanks of Perryville, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Karen Hanks of Harrisburg; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Hanks and Tom Hanks.
Wynette Gilliam
Wynette Gilliam, 76, of Golconda, died Tuesday evening, April 24, 2001. Visitation is 6 p.m. today, April 26, 2001, at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda. Service is 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at the funeral home. The Rev. E.J. Cole will officiate. Burial is in I.O.O.F. in Golconda.

Louise Nation, 78, of Park Ridge, formally of McLeansboro, died 8:20 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2001. Visitation is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, April 26, 2001, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Graveside service will precede burial 10 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at Blooming Grove cemetery near McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert Sefried will officiate.
Bernie Lee Ramsey
Bernie Lee Ramsey, 67, well-known farmer of Omaha, passed away Sept. 2, 2001 at MD Anderson Cancer Center from lung complications.
He was born Nov. 1, 1933 to the late Jesse and Pearl (Rister) Ramsey on the family farm in Omaha.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 at Cox and Son Funeral Home, Ridgway. The Rev. Todd White and the Rev. Joe Patton will officiate. Visitation is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001 at the funeral home. Burial is in Old Cottonwood cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at graveside by the Ridgway American Legion and VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
Lee was very active in his community, serving on the board of trustees of Southeastern Illinois College, board of directors of Farm Credit Services of Southern Illinois, board of directors of Old Cottonwood cemetery, board of directors of Gallatin County Soil and Water Conservation District, and as vice-president of Asbury Mutual Insurance. He served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the Shawnee Hills Barbershop Chorus, founder and president of Ramsey Farms Inc., and a very active member of the New Hope General Baptist Church. Lee was also known for his beautiful voice, singing at many weddings and funerals.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen (Reed) Ramsey; two sons, Barry (Julie) Ramsey, Champaign, Russ (Jackie) Ramsey, Ridgway; three sisters, Wilma (John) Harrington, Ridgway, Genevieve Hutchinson, Omaha, Lola (Orville) Stoer, Cuba, Mo.; one brother, Dr. Charles (Marge) Ramsey, Charleston; five grandchildren, Jacob and Clare Ramsey, Champaign, Hannah, Mitchell and Seth Ramsey, Ridgway; two stepsons, Wade (Lisa) Newton, Ridgway, Brandon (Danielle) Newton, Ridgway; four stepgrandchildren, Katy and Kory Newton, Ridgway, Meagan Newton, Ridgway, Misti Drone, Ridgway.
Charles "Sonny" Robertson Charles "Sonny" Robertson, 90, Carrier Mills, died 9:57 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2001 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born October 11, 1910 in Carrier Mills, son of the late Charles and Julie (Buckner) Robertson. He married
the former Lora Jacobs, who preceded him in death Feb. 1, 1992.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home, Carrier Mills. The Rev. Steve Shea will officiate. Visitation is 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 at the funeral home. Burial is in Salem cemetery, Carrier Mills.
Mr. Robertson was retired from General Motors and worked as a coal miner.
He is survived by one son, Roger (Kimberly) Dunn, Carrier Mills; two stepsons, Delmar Dunn, Carrier Mills, James Dunn, Peoria; thirteen stepgrandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Eugene F. Duffy
Eugene F. Duffy, 90, longtime business owner of Ridgway, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2001 at Fountainview Nursing Home, Eldorado.
He was born July 6, 1911 to the late Frances and Nora (Smith) Duffy in Ridgway. He was married
in 1952 to the former Marie Roe, who preceded him in death in 1996.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ridgway. Fr. Mark Stec will officiate.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2001, with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. and Knights of Columbus rites following the rosary, at Cox and Son Funeral Home, Ridgway. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic cemetery, Ridgway, with military rites conducted at graveside by the Ridgway American Legion and VFW.
Mr. Duffy was retired from owning and operating the Duffy Standard Service Station in Ridgway. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Ridgway American Legion and VFW. He was a 4th degree Knight and charter member of the L. A. Lambert Council 1851 Knights of Columbus, Ridgway. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ridgway.
Mr. Duffy is survived by one son, Pat Duffy, Ridgway; one daughter, Cindy (Mark) Hardy, Beaverton, Ore.; one grandson, Matt Duffy, Ridgway; one granddaughter, Jennifer Duffy, Ridgway; and one sister-in-law, Aggie Roe, Ridgway.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Duffy was preceded in death by four sisters, Laura Brown, Maggie Vickery, Madeline Logsdon, and Pearl Meunsterman.
Thelon Hendrix
Thelon Hendrix, 85, 1101 Trolley Road, Eldorado, died 6:05 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001.
He was born October 21, 1915 in Prentiss County, Miss. to Gus and Emily (Jenkins) Hendrix. He was married
Aug. 6, 1938 to Ruby (Reynolds) Hendrix, who survives.
Local funeral services were 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 3, 2001 at Watson Funeral Home, Eldorado. The Rev. Dewayne Jolly officiated.
Visitation was 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2001 at the funeral home.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001 in Oak Grove cemetery, Iuka, Miss. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at Cutshall Funeral Home, Iuka.
Mr. Hendrix worked for 21 years as a school custodian, and also worked in Unit No. 4 School District. He was a member of Eldorado Gospel Assembly Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hendrix is survived by two sons, James T. (Betty) Hendrix, Memphis, Tenn., and Jack W. (Vickie) Hendrix, Eldorado; two daughters, Shirley (Joe) Woodruff, Indianapolis, Ind., and Alice Hendrix, Belleville; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.
Roger B. Hanks
Roger B. Hanks, 36, Harrisburg, died 1:08 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001 at Harrisburg Medical Center, Harrisburg.
He was born Oct. 1, 1964 in Gary, Ind. to Jack F. and Carol (Gates) Hanks.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001 at Gaskins Funeral Home, Harrisburg. The Rev. J.R. Sellers will officiate. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery, Harrisburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the family.
Mr. Hanks was a pipe fitter. He attended First United Pentecostal Church, Harrisburg.
Mr. Hanks is survived by his mother, Carol Hanks, Harrisburg; two brothers, Greg Hanks, Carrier Mills, Jack Hanks, Harrisburg; two nieces, Danielle Hanks and Casandra Hanks, both of Perryville, Mo.; and several cousins.
Willard B. Brockett
Willard B. Brockett, 85, 3509 N. 31st St., McAllen, Texas, formerly of Omaha, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001 at his residence. Funeral arrangements are pending from Vickery Funeral Chapel, Omaha.
Vern E. Newby
Vern E. Newby, 84, Harrisburg, died 10:55 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2001 at Saline Care Center, Harrisburg.
Visitation was 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2001 at Gholson Funeral Home in Mc Leansboro. The body was cremated. Burial will be at a later date.
He is survived by three sons, two daughters, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Boner
Kenneth Boner, 65, of Tuscon, Ariz., died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001 in Tuscon.
He was married
to Dimple Nicholson, formerly of Creal Springs, who survives.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001 at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home, Carrier Mills. The Rev. Shorty Alsip will officiate. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of funeral at the funeral home. Burial will be at Simmons cemetery, Creal Springs.
