Arthur Vernon Johnson, 84, of 201 Belle St., Alhambra, formerly of Saline County, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland.
Services were held on Monday, March 11, 2002, at Endsley Funeral Home in Bartonville. Burial was in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Peoria.
He is survived by his wife, Fern L. (Boatright) Johnson, two daughters, three sons, a sister, 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Carolyn Ann Suits
Carolyn Ann Suits, 42, died 2:37 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002, at University of Louisville, Ky.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare with the Rev. Ed Lafferty officiating. Burial will be in Cave Hill cemetery in Cave-In-Rock. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at the funeral home.
Jackie L. Osman
Jackie L. Osman, 67, of Harrisburg, died 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at the Harrisburg Care Center.
Mr. Osman will be cremated as to his wishes, and there will be a private graveside service held at a later date at Spring Valley cemetery with the Rev. Ted Warren officiating. Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Sept. 6, 1934, in Hardin County to Loren and Verbal (Brown) Osman.
He was a carpenter.
He is survived by four children, Kim McSparin of Harrisburg, Tammi Ingersoll of Fla., Jackie Osman of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Charles Osman of Harrisburg; six grandchildren, Paul J. and Jennifer McSparin, Emily, Jacob, and Meghan Osman, and Joshua Goforth; three sisters, Wilma Williams of Harrisburg, Hazel Miller of Bourbonnais, and Sharon LaPara of South Bend, Ind.; and a brother, Lyndell Osman of Pittsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Randall and Glen "Dean" Osman.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Paul McSparin Center in Enfield.
Mr. Arthur C. 'A.C.' Crayne
Mr. Arthur C. "A.C." Crayne, 79, of Grayville, died 7:16 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Sturm Funeral Home in Grayville with the Rev. William Minor officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Equality with military rites. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002, at the funeral home, where Masonic rites will be held at 7:30 p.m.
He was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Equality to Homer and Ellie (Boutwell) Crayne. On Nov. 16, 1943, at Shawneetown, he married
the former Martha Leonard, who survives.
He was a retired coal miner and veteran of World War II. He was a member of Grayville First United Methodist Church, James M. Helm American Legion Post No. 696 at Grayville, Sheba Lodge No. 200, Equality Lodge No. 2, the Eastern Star at Albion, Ainad Temple at East St. Louis, the Consistory at Belleville, and UMWA Local 2117. He was a former City of Grayville Commissioner.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Marsha Beasley of Grayville; a son, Richard Crayne of Equality; a sister, Laura Spencer of Albion; and eight grandchildren.
James 'Jim' Lynch Jr.
James "Jim" Lynch Jr., 78, of Ridgway, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Ridgway Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with the Rev. Bill Casey officiating. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born August 9, 1923, to the late James and Lucy (Sauls) Lynch in the river bottoms between New Haven and Shawneetown. He was married
to Wilma Ruth (McGhee) Lynch, who preceded him in death in 1993.
He was a retired highway worker for the State of Illinois.
He is survived by three daughters, Carolyn (Gordan) Clevenger, Jane (Charles W.) Cox, and Marie Hise, all of Ridgway; a son, Jimmy (Cathy) Lynch of Omaha; a sister, Anna Golden of Norris City; a brother, Taylor Lynch of Shawneetown; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, grandson, two brothers, Bill and Grant Lynch; and five sisters, Orpha Greer, Pearl Bennett, Bina Combs, Allie Case and Grace Crane.
'Fern' Louise Dill
"Fern" Louise Dill, 81, of 916 S. McKinley St., Harrisburg, died 11:20 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. G.E. Coultas officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born July 22, 1920, in Harrisburg to William and Pearl (Ewell) Dillon. On Dec. 24, 1938, she married
William H. "Bill" Dill, who survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Patricia Louise (Norman) Warner of Piqua, Ohio; a son, William P. (Marsha) Dill of Benton; a daughter, Belinda (Tom) Fearheiley of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Kevin Laughlin of Milwaukee, Wis., Christy (Warren) Streck of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Corey Fearheiley of Harrisburg, Nicholas Dill of Du Quoin, and Nathaniel Dill of Benton; a brother-in-law, Archie (Loreta) Dill of Marion; and a sister-in-law, Ludane Day of Harrisburg.
She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, E.B. Dill and Lawrence Dill; two brothers, John Leslie Dillon and William Clyde Dillon; and a sister, Thelma Faye Sims.
Hubert L. Abner
Hubert L. Abner, 77, of 380 S. Fourth St., Eldorado, died 8:45 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Zion cemetery in Ozark. There will be no visitation. Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born May 11, 1924, in Newport, Ky., to Jessie James and Mary Nancy (Maines) Abner. He married
the former Betty Joe Duncan, who died in 1993.
He was a farmer.
He is survived by two sons, Jerry Lee Abner of Eldorado and his friend and companion, Mary Burnett, Bobby Joe (Lisa) Abner of Carrier Mills; a daughter, Janet Lee Abner of Evansville, Ind.; three brothers; one brother-in-law; four sisters; one sister-in-law; and three grandchildren.
James Clifford Bebout
James Clifford Bebout died March 28, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
He was born Sept. 28, 1922, to the late Marion and Floya (Belford) Bebout.
On Oct. 22, 1942, he married
the former Ruby Goolsby, who survives. He was a retired maintenance worker for the Illinois State Highway Department and a World War II Army veteran.
In addition to his wife Ruby, he is survived by two daughters, Roberta (Gary) Price of Stonefort, and Alberta (Dick) Moore of Venice, Fla.; one brother, Clyde (Ethel) Bebout of Harrisburg; four sisters, Bonnie (Don) Galaro of Huntington Beach, Calif., Evelene Gulley of Harrisburg, Imogene (Ray) Phelps of Vienna, and Connie (Wayne) Ingle of Simpson; six grandchildren, Elizabeth and Wayne Bowers of Harrisburg, Randall and Thresa Partain of Harrisburg, Douglas Collins of Equality, Darrin and Denise Collins of Uniontown, Ky., Tamara and Bill Wright of Stonefort, and Nancy and Richard Abney of Harrisburg. 14 great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Oneida Bebout; two sisters, Lorene Knakmuhs and Myrean Winders; and four brothers, Clarence, Lacy, Lendall, and Leonard Bebout.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002, at the Macedonia Baptist Church where he was a member. The Rev. Leroy Hicks and the Rev. Darrell Ford will officiate. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery.
Lawrence Orval Rose
Lawrence Orval Rose, 80, died 2:18 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare with the Rev. Harold Miller officiating. Burial will be in Rose cemetery in Herod. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002, at the funeral home.
Rev. Bill P. Russell
The Rev. Bill P. Russell, 77, of Plymouth, Minn., born Jan. 6, 1925, died March 2, 2002, at his residence.
He served in the Navy during World War II, attended McKendree College in Lebanon, Asbury Seminary in Kentucky, and Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. He received his C.P.E. He served as Chaplain at the Indiana State Boys School and the Minneapolis Workhouse. He was on the pastoral staff at Richfield United Methodist Church and was a chaplain at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester until his retirement in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Flora Russell of Harrisburg, and sister Betty Wallace of Chicago.
He will be deeply missed by son Maurice and wife Dorene of Sioux City, Iowa; daughter, Suzanne Ruegemer of Plymouth, Minn.; Lois Russell of Osseo, Minn., mother of his children; grandchildren, Dorice and Issac Russell, Charles, Daniel, David, and Michael Ruegemer; sisters, Lois Burden of Paducah, Ky., Shirley Conway of Roeland Park, Kan., and Charlotte Warwich of Shreveport, La.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2002, at David Lee Funeral Home, Wayzeta Chapel, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Minneapolis.
