Aaron 'Peanuts' Drone
Aaron "Peanuts" Drone, 72, of Ridgway, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway with Father Mark Stec officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery in Ridgway with military rites by the Ridgway American Legion and VFW. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway where a prayer service will be conducted at 6 p.m.
He was born June 12, 1929, to the late Peter and Lorene (Goebel) Drone on the family farm near Ridgway. He was married
to Pauline (Rother) Drone on Sept. 19, 1953.
He had worked in earlier years at BS&S; Oil Drilling and Oil Management, but had recently retired from Farm Service in Ridgway after 32 years of service. He was an Army veteran, a lifetime member of the Ridgway VFW, and a faithful member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Drone of Ridgway; a son, Phillip (Nanette) Drone of Mentor, Ohio; two daughters, Donna (Bob) Hastie of Elizabethtown and Beverly (Kenny) Harrawood of Eldorado; two brothers, Theodore Drone of Mt. Carmel and Don (Phyllis) Drone of Ridgway; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Zirkelbach, Berniece Hemphill; a brother, Non Drone; and a grandson, Josh Drone.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to either the building fund or cemetery fund at St. Joseph's Church.
Philip Gill
Philip R. Gill, of Galatia, was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Christopher. He was the son of the late Homer and Zetta (Smith) Gill. He was a World War II veteran.
Philip was saved Oct. 30, 1949. He was a member of the Galatia Baptist Church.
He was married
May 26, 1946, to Lula Mae (Choate) Harris. On Nov. 26, 1970, he married
Kathleen Bryant Gill. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; a son, Alan (Ann) Gill; and a daughter, Luann (Denny) Irvin; three grandchildren, Jim (Catricia) Gill, Abby Gill, and Bobbie Choisser; four great-grandchildren, Kendall, Kendra, and Caitlynn Brown, and Cormac Ray Gill; three stepgrandchildren, Bryan Irvin, Jennifer Irvin, and Matthew Gill, and three great-stepgrandchildren.
Besides these, he is survived by two sisters, Loudene Price of Pawnee and Mildred Hoover of Belleville; a sister-in-law, June Gill of Galatia, Ernestine (Oral) Hale of Harrisburg, and Beulah (Harlin) Kermicle of LaMesa, Calif.; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Gill; and two brothers-in-law, Everett Price and LaMonte Hoover.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Galatia with the Rev. Denny Steed officiating. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. Burial will be in Tates Chapel cemetery in Galatia.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the John Milton Society for the Blind.
Fern Farmer
Fern Farmer, 86, of 801 Sahara St., Harrisburg, died 10:50 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Roger Teal officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Rudement, to the late Lewis and Louella (Reynolds) Gibbs. On August 12, 1936, she married
Earl Farmer, who preceded her in death on May 22, 1986.
She was a retired factory worker from Harrisburg Manufacturing.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanie (Paul "Buzz") Welling and Patti Rightnowar, both of Harrisburg; a brother, Troy Gibbs of Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren, Jay (Ronda) Welling, Renee (Ralph) Boots, Keith (Darlene) Welling, Dawan (Leslie) Rightnowar, and Shawn (Stanli) Rightnowar; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Arlie R. Joiner
Arlie R. Joiner, 69, of Lincoln, formerly of Harrisburg, died 8:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Fricke-Calvert Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln with Craig Smith officiating. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at the funeral home.
He is survived by a son, daughter, two grandchildren, and two sisters.
Arch D. Baker
Arch D. Baker, 85, husband of Emmalene Baker, of 90 Golf Course Road, Eldorado, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
He was born October 27, 1916, the son of Robert James Baker and Ida (Jones) Florence Baker of Eldorado.
Arch lived his entire life in Eldorado and was a prominent businessman and an active member of his community. He owned and operated Baker Furniture Co. for over 30 years and he previously owned a neighborhood grocery store on Glenwood Avenue in Eldorado. Arch was also a charter member of the board of directors of the Saline Valley Federal Savings and Loan in Harrisburg for 30 years, and was one of the founders of that organization. He was a past president of the Eldorado Lions Club and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Eldorado for many years.
In addition to his wife of 40 years, Emmalene, he is survived by two daughters and a son from a previous marriage, Shirley Porter of Marion, Denise Muller of Carterville, and Jared Baker of Newburgh, Ind.; three stepchildren, Ernest VanZant of McLeansboro, Gary VanZant of Eldorado, Norman VanZant of West Frankfort; five grandchildren, Lisa Benge of Douglas, Wyo., Jeanette Hughes of Marion, Pete Lenzini of Carterville, Daniel Lenzini of Mohomet and Zach Smith of Woodstock, Ga.; nine stepgrandchildren, Nicole Frey of McLeansboro, Ernie VanZant II of Vandalia, Wes VanZant of McLeansboro, Rachel VanZant of McLeansboro, Brad VanZant of Eldorado, Steve VanZant of Eldorado, Scott VanZant of Eldorado, Eric VanZant of Eldorado, Tonya VanZant of West Frankfort; eight great-grandchildren; nine great-stepgrandchildren; and one great-great-stepgrandchild.
Besides his parents Arch was preceded in death by four sisters, Birdie Guthrie, Sadie Council, Madilene Pickelsimer and Bonnie Baker, and by four brothers, Lloyd Baker, Charlie Baker, Neil Baker and Ralph Baker.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. John Krapps Officiating. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at the funeral home.
Charles Virgil Wilson Sr.
Charles Virgil Wilson Sr., 69, 435 Naron Road, Shelbyville, Tenn., formerly of Shawneetown, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2002, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with Pastor Ron DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown. Military rites will be performed by Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2002, at the funeral home with a Masonic service by Lessing Lodge of Evansville, Ind., at 7 p.m.
He was born April 9, 1932, in Shawneetown to the late Adrian C. and Lola (Proffer) Wilson. On June 30, 1973, he married
the former Donna F. McMillen, who survives.
He was a supervisor of Fisher Body in Willow Springs. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Shelbyville, Tenn. He was a 47-year member of Manteno Masonic Lodge and belonged to the American Legion of Manteno.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Tammy Carlon of Flower Mound, Texas, Brenda McLain of Manteno, Dawn VanDrunen of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Lisa Wilson of Shelbyville, Tenn.; three sons, Charles Wilson Jr. and Carroll Wilson, both of Manteno and Darroll Wilson of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Shirley (Robert) Sheets of Evansville, Ind.; three brothers, Earl (Elva) Wilson of Shawneetown, Freddie (Sandy) Wilson of Manteno, and Harold (Georgia) Wilson of Lockport; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Adrian "Skip" Wilson, an infant son, Scot Allen Wilson, a grandson, Brian Wilson, and a brother, Adrian L. Wilson.

John Robert Patton
John Robert Patton, 75, of 141 W. Posey Ave., Shawneetown, died 10:40 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with Pastor Jack Hall officiating. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown. Military services will be provided by American Legion Post 569. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born May 3, 1925, in Harrisburg, to the late James and Nora (Black) Patton. One Sept. 12, 1951, he married
the former Margie Holloway, who survives.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was retired from the Daily Register as a printer. He was a member of the Shawneetown First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debbie (Don) Fromm of Shawneetown; a son, Robert "Radar" (Nancy) Patton of Shawneetown; four grandchildren, Derrek and (Jaylyn) Fromm of Harrisburg, Chris John Fromm of Clopton, Mo., Shane Patton of Shawneetown, and John Drake Patton of Shawneetown; three sisters, Dora Parish, Eunice Bundren, and Anita Carnett, all of Harrisburg; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Marjorie Sowels Jones
Marjorie Sowels Jones, 74, of Pinckneyville, formerly of Harrisburg, died 9:42 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at Newburgh Health Care in Newburgh, Ind.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born July 7, 1927, in Sesser to David H. and Grace (Small) Smith. On Oct. 22, 1947, she married
James W. "Bud" Sowels, who preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1991. In 1995, she married
Alvin D. Jones, who preceded her in death in 2001.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrisburg First Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Jim Sowels of Evansville, Ind., John Sowels of Danville, and Jay Sowels of Lynchburg, Va.; three stepchildren, Jan Bush, Joy Jones, and Jay Jones, all of Decatur; two brothers, Paul Henry Smith of Palos Verdas, Calif., and David Smith of Hope, Ark.; two sisters, Betty Dunn of Pinckneyville and Monta Marie McDonnough of San Antonio, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to both of her husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alta Ruth Smith.
Deborah G. Gholson
Deborah G. Gholson, 85, of Carmi, formerly of Broughton, died 4:32 a.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002, at White County Hospital in Carmi.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Bill Gholson officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Hill cemetery near Broughton. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, a brother, a sister, several nieces and nephews.
