Walter H. Tanner
Walter H. Tanner, 73, of 513 E. Locust St., Harrisburg, died 10:45 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg. Cremation and burial will be at a later date.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born August 29, 1928, in Harrisburg to the late Harvey and Carrie (Parks) Tanner.
He was a construction worker and served in the U.S. Army 1954 to 1955.
He was a member of BPOE No. 1058, Harrisburg and the George Hart Post No. 167 American Legion of Harrisburg.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy Brit and Sherri Tanner, Newburgh, Ind., and Bruce (Christy) Tanner of Carterville; a daughter, Andrea Winters of Marion; and a brother, J.R. Tanner of Harrisburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Guy Tanner, and a sister, Susan Vogal.
Virginia L. Pearce
Virginia L. Pearce, 75, of 1303 S. Roosevelt St., Harrisburg, died 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg.
She was the wife of Les Pearce of Harrisburg.

Lotella L. Gidcumb
Lotella L. Gidcumb, 82, of Holly, Mich., died Thursday, May 23, 2002, in Harrisburg.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Dryer Funeral Home in Holly with Pastor Bob Galey officiating.
Burial will be in Ottawa Park cemetery.
Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gidcumb was born in Harrisburg on Nov. 20, 1919, the daughter of Jerry and Addie (Wilson) Pittman.
She is survived by her husband, Chalmer Gidcumb; four children, Carolyn (John) Sherrod of Harrisburg, Pat (Junior) Drake of Fenton, Jackie (Dennis) Davis of Dryden, and Cindy (Don) O'Connor of Oxford; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Genevieve 'Ferne' Whitmore Petersen
Genevieve "Ferne" Whitmore Petersen, 90, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the Modern Care Nursing Home in Jacksonville.
She was born Dec. 1, 1911, in Saline County; the daughter of Jessie G. and Joy Dorris Fiveash.
She is survived by two daughters, Penny (Randy) Wheeler of Newburgh, Ind. and Mary (Larry) Kuster of Chapin; four granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, William David Whitmore; two younger brothers, John and Glen Fiveash; and a younger sister, Wanda Fiveash Simpson.
Mrs. Peterson grew up in St. Louis, Mo. and Harrisburg.
She graduated from Harrisburg High School.
For many years she was the bookeeper for Radio Station WLBK in DeKalb.
She was a member of the DeKalb City Planning Commission.
She retired in 1975 and spent her later years in Evansville, Ind. and Jacksonville.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Private services will be held this summer at Somers cemetery in Saline County.
Memorial gifts are suggested to the American Heart Association.
George J. Briddick
George J. Briddick, 75, 739 Bramlet St., Eldorado, died 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002 at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter Baker officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002 at the funeral home.
He was born August 26, 1926, in Eldorado, the son of George and Ethel (Palmer) Briddick. He married
the former Nellie White on July 31, 1948, who survives.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eldorado and was retired from United Cities Gas Co. after 32 years. He also was a military veteran.
He is survived by two daughters, Rosanna (the late Bob) Wood of Eldorado and Rochelle (Steve) Griffin, both of Eldorado; four grandchildren, Ryan Wood, Brandon Wood, Josh Griffin and Luke Griffin; one great-grandchild, Emma Griffin; two sisters, Virginia (Cletus) Baird of Norwood, Mo. and Wanda Walker of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two brothers-in-law, Johnny (Ethel) White, L.B. (Carol) White; four sisters-in-law, Ora Feges, Emily (Rod) Choisser, Ann (Mack) Morris and Alma (Larry) Coker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Geneva Crain, and one brother-in-law, Leon Walker.

Sharon L. McClure-Luther, 54, of 606 E. Poplar St., Harrisburg, died 6:18 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
The body has been cremated. Services will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Visitation is 5 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, David Luther of Harrisburg; and a son.

Carl Willis "Ace" Scott, 85, of McLeansboro, died 10:11 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be in Little Springs cemetery in Hamilton County with military rites by McLeansboro American Legion Post No. 106. Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home.
