Marie S. Galliher
Marie S. Galliher, 93, died at her home 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, of congestive heart failure in Alton.
Born May 16, 1909, at Eddyville, she was the daughter of the late Rev. T.J. and Alpha (Whiteside) Isaac. She was a devoted wife for 75 years, a kind and loving mother, a devout Christian, and a generous friend.
Marie was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She served on the official board, the building committee, and was a trustee. Additionally, she was chairperson of various organizations and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 1018.
On July 12, 1927, she married
Floyd E. Galliher in Metropolis. She is survived by her husband; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and George Kloves of San Francisco, Calif., and Alpha and Mike Smith of Peoria; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Glenda Galliher of Coral Springs, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Elbert Isaac of Emerald Isle, N.C.; and one sister, Brucilla Broyles of Jackson, Mich.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joan Marie; a son, retired Lt. Col. K. Don Galliher and his wife, Jean (Garland) Galliher; three brothers, Dilas, Garry and Raleigh Isaac; and three sisters, Eula Hazel Barger, Fay Stalions Webb, and Madge Eskew Carroll.
According to her wishes, her body will be donated to the Washington University School of Medicine's Memory and Aging Project for Alzheimer's Disease Research.
The date of the memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Main Street Methodist Church in Alton. Memorials can be donated to the Main Street United Methodist Church Trust or Building Funds or to the American Heart Association.
Charles A. Sutton
Charles A. Sutton passed away peacefully at his home in Bisbee, Ariz. on Thursday, May 23, 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Lura Sutton; a sister, Mary Chase; and a brother, James Sutton. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Charlotte; devoted son, David; nieces, Marilee Fowler, Melinda Spence, and Lisa Schauwecker; and nephews, Jim (Teresa) Chase and Jim (Francis) Sutton; also seven great-nieces and great-nephews; and stepchildren Ken (Barbara) Herndon, Catherine (Larry) Weishaar, Susan Sipes; 15 stepgrandchildren; and four great-stepgrandchildren.
From his love of his three dogs to big band music to Civil War memorabilia, Charles had a keen interest in the world around him. He was a great cook, and often enjoyed preparing delicious meals for friends and family. He thoroughly enjoyed the great outdoors and especially loved birds of all varieties and picturesque scenery filled with beautiful flowers.
He loved anything associated with South America, including romantic music, unique art, Indian artifacts, and intricate jewelry. He enjoyed collecting memorabilia of various sorts, but one of his most noteworthy was his collection of Mickey Mouse pieces.
Charlie was born Sept. 3, 1928 in Harrisburg, where he lived until graduation from high school. As a young adult, he was employed with the FBI from 1947 to 1950, under the directorship of J. Edgar Hoover. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 as corporal at Fort Leonard Wood Base. He married
Betty Tate in 1955 and they had one son, David. They were married
for 27 years until her untimely death in 1982. He live in Mt. Carmel, Ind. from 1963 to 1995. Charlie was heavily involved in the Boy Scout organization for more than 20 years. He achieved Four Bead Wood Badge Scoutmaster.
He and his son, David, shared an avid interest in many scouting activities over the years.
Charlie married
Charlotte, his wife of 18 years, in 1984. Retiring from Dupont Pharmaceuticals after 18 years of dedicated employment, he and Charlotte moved to Bisbee, Ariz, in 1995. They shared a love of the "Southwest lifestyle." Charlee became director of the Bisbee Senior Center, where he gladly devoted his time to the center's activities, and to the expansion project of the center's facilities. Charlie was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, and an active and devoted member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church. Other organizations he was a member of include the Elks and Masons.
Visitation and Rosary were held 7 p.m. May 26, 2002, at Saint Patrick Church, Higgins Hill, Bisbee, Ariz. Mass was offered 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at the church. Graveside burial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Sunset Lawn cemetery in Harrisburg. Memorial donations may be made to the Bisbee Senior Center Expansion Fund, 300 Collins Road, Bisbee, Ariz. 85608.

John Galen Oxford
John Galen Oxford, 75, of Cave-in-Rock, died 6:14 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at Hardin County Hospital.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002, at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock. Burial will be in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at the funeral home.
Sylvia L. Bebout
Sylvia L. Bebout, 68, of Carbondale, formerly of Rosiclare, died 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Hosick Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Oglesby officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Elizabethtown. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at the funeral home.
She is survived by her father, three sons, four daughters, 22 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Glendel 'Glen' Watson
Glendel "Glen" Watson, 63, of Hartford City, Ind., formerly of Eldorado, died 11:14 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Blackford County Hospital in Hartford City.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Wolf Creek cemetery in Eldorado with the Rev. John Kraps officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are in the charge of Keplinger Funeral Home in Hartford City, Ind.
He is survived by his wife, mother, three stepdaughters, four stepgrandchildren and a sister.
William P. 'Roadrunner' Leger
William P. "Roadrunner" Leger, 76, of 1537 Maureen Drive, Marion, died 2 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Deon Dutton officiating. Burial will be in Highland cemetery in South Fort Mitchell, Ky. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Mt. Vernon, Ky., to William Lester and Pearl Mae (Mason) Leger. On Feb. 2, 1946, he married
the former Dorothy Gillespie, who survives.
He was a retired coal miner.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William Leger Jr. of Marion; a daughter, Brenda (Earl) Chamness of Marion; four grandchildren, Diana Brewer (Toby) Hoover of Marion, Debra Brewer (Kevin) Perkins of West Frankfort, Billie Sue Leger and Kimberly Leger, both of Eldorado; five great-grandchildren, Krista Hoover and Brittani Hoover, both of Marion, Amber Dial, Corey Dial and Alex Perkins, all of West Frankfort.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Leger; a brother, Virgil Leger and two sisters, Hazel Eldridge and Betty Ann Ford.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and can be left at the funeral home.
Hazel Rogers
Hazel Rogers, 64, of 145 Railroad St., Carrier Mills, died 12:05 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2002, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Joey Dunning officiating. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the funeral home.
she was born Jan. 17, 1938, in Kankakee to Hazel Edith (Price) and the late Ray Wells. On Dec. 1, 1957, she married
David L. Rogers, who survives.
She worked in the Time Study division of the St. Croix Fishing Rod Factory in Wisconsin and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carrier Mills.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by three sons, Brian Rogers of Salmon, Idaho, Mark (Cheryl) Rogers of Bourbonnais, and Keith (Lucinda) Rogers of Eldorado; a daughter, Connie (Brian) Jazweicki of Lakewood, Wis.; two brothers, Earl and Jerry Wells, both of Kankakee; 10 grandchildren, Krissy Rogers, Debbey Rogers, Kathy Miller, Abigail Rogers, Rebecca Rogers, Madeline Rogers, Lydia Rogers, Kari Rogers, Cory Jazweicki, and Anthony Jazweicki; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Lamont and Devyn Miller.
The family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society in her memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mary M. (Plunkett) Skelton
Mary M. (Plunkett) Skelton, 97, died June 18, 2002, at Largo Health Care in Florida. She was born in Eldorado, married
Joseph Ewing Skelton, also of Eldorado, in 1925. They raised two daughters and one son, moving to Michigan in 1941. Mr. Skelton was deceased in 1991. Mary Skelton is survived by two daughters, Mary Eleanor Cash and Anthia Virginia Hirsch; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Interment of her cremains will be at Wolf Creek cemetery on July 14, 2002.
William Ray Webb
William Ray Webb, 37, of 1012 Webber St., Eldorado, died 4:53 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. According to his wishes, cremation will follow the funeral. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born July 15, 1964, in Chicago, to Ulysis "Junior" and the late Betty Faye (York) Webb. In 1990, he married
the former Angie Karns, who survives.
He was a laborer and a loving husband and father.
In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by two sons, William Ryan Webb and Dylan Ray Webb, both of Eldorado; several nieces and nephews; three brothers, Jimmy Webb of Oklahoma, Larry Webb of Chicago, and David Webb of Eldorado; three sisters, Judy Webb of Chicago and Mary Lester and Cynthia "Sissy" Webb, both of Eldorado.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
Paul B. Russell
Paul B. Russell, 57, of 908 N. Main St., Carrier Mills, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, in Robinsonville, Miss.
Memorial services will be held 7 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation is 5 p.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Russell's request was to be cremated.
He was born Oct. 28, 1944, in Harrisburg, to Paul and Helen (Dalton) Russell, who survive. On August 16, 1962, he married
Beverly Richey, who survives.
He was a coal miner, a member of the UMWA and an avid fisherman and hunter.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by two daughters, Taunya Russell of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Heather (Scott) Dewar of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Taryn and Tori Dewar of Harrisburg; a sister, Paula (Dick) Santy of Harrisburg; three brothers-in-law, Mike (Debi) Richey of Harrisburg, Jeff (Carol) Richey of Carrier Mills and Greg (Teresa) Richey of Mt. Vernon; nieces and nephews Laura Jo Shewmake, Jan Kuppart, Melissa Etherton, Chad Richey, Meloni Wyatt, Erin Richey, B.G. Richey, Josh Ragan, Kristi Sirtak, Ben, Brooke and Brad Vinyard.
A sister, Brenda Odum, preceded him in death.
