Gerald W. Minder
Gerald W. Minder, 52, of McLeansboro, died 11:59 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2000 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.
He was born Feb. 11, 1948, in Collinsville to William and Chilish (Wilson) Minder. He was raised by John and Marjorie Wilson.
He married
Nancy McDuffy. He later married
Virginia Lane Holland on Dec. 16, 1978. She survives.
Mr. Minder worked for Farrar Oil Company as a driller. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the McLeansboro American Legion Post No. 106. He attended Hopewell Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Holland) Minder of McLeansboro; his foster mother, Marjorie Wilson of McLeansboro; his birth mother, Chilish Minder; one son, John W. Minder and wife, Talasha of Pensacola, Fla.; one stepson, Eugene "Jamie" Holland and wife, Chris of McLeansboro; one daughter, Tammy and husband, Greg Provost of Pensacola, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Jacqueline and husband, Scott Johnson of McLeansboro; three brothers, William "Bill" Minder of Granite City, Kenneth Minder of Norris City, John Minder of Enfield; four sisters, Linda Graham of Carmi, Mary Alice Tom of Carmi, Debbie Allen of Enfield, Maggie Harmon of Lexington, Ky.; three foster brothers, Lenny Wilson of McLeansboro, Jimmy Wilson of McLeansboro, Sherman Wilson of Livingston, Texas; one foster sister, Becky Elliston of Olney; and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his birth father, William Minder; his foster father, John Wilson; and one sister.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is in Hickory Hill cemetery, near Broughton, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post No. 106.
Arnold Blake
Arnold Blake, 87, of 6544 U.S. 45 South, Carrier Mills, died 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg.
He was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Dugger, Ind., to the late Guy and Grace (Gray) Blake.
He married
the former Elizabeth Meeks Sept. 30, 1931. She survives.
He retired after 47 years as a prospect driller for Peabody Coal Company.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Delice Felty and husband, Ernest L. of Shawneetown, Arrawhanna Yates and husband, Jeff of O'Fallon and Delola M. Maciel of Redmon, Wash.; a son, Darwin Blake and wife, Ann of Summit; eight grandchildren, Terry B. Felty of Carrier Mills, Tracy L. Felty of Carrier Mills, Sherry Williams of Lockport, Elizabeth A. Yates of O'Fallon, David Maciel and Theresa Conrath, both of Colorado, Danny Maciel of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and Tony Maciel of Redmon, Wash.; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Blake.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Salem cemetery in Carrier Mills.
Velma (Buechel) Lyon
Velma (Buechel) Lyon, 81, of St. Louis died 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Truman Care Center in St. Louis.
She was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Fair Grove, Mo., to the late Troy and Nora (Bridges) Alexander.
She married
Charles J. Buechel, who preceded her in death, then married
Chalmer Lyon, who also preceded her in death. She was a retired licensed practical nurse.
She is survived by four sons, Charles "Chuck" Buechel and Frank Buechel, both of Arnold, Mo., William "Bill" Buechel of Troy, Mo., and Patrick Buechel of Manchester, Mo.; a daughter, Dorothy Ainsworth of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a sister, Bethal Steward of Springfield, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers and one sister.
Graveside services will precede burial at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Durham cemetery near Galatia under the direction of Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Tuesday until the service time at Gholson Funeral Home.
Sylvia E. Tenney
Sylvia E. Tenney, 91, of Wayne City, died 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Way-Fair Restorium in Fairfield.
She was born Feb. 12, 1909, in Wayne County to the late Oscar and Emma Bell (Koger) Buchanan.
She married
Frank "Toad" Tenney and he preceded her in death in 1984.
She was a housewife, a 50 year member of Wayne City Eastern Star and a member of the First Christian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha Ann Tenney of Wayne City and a sister, Alma Trotter, of Dahlgren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City. The Rev. Chuck Smith will officiate. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Thomason cemetery in Wayne City.
Kathleen Chappell
Kathleen Chappell, 63, 521 Main St., Old Shawneetown, died 9:15 a.m., Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital, in Evansville, Ind.
She was born Nov. 18, 1936, in Shawneetown, to Roy and Pearl (Hughes) Dempsey. She married
John Thomas Chappell. He preceded her in death April 3, 1983.
Mrs. Chappell was a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Tina Chappell of Old Shawneetown; two sons, Mike Chappell of Shawneetown, Joe Chappell and wife, Robbi of Shawneetown; one sister, Donna and husband, Carroll Wayne Williams of Shawneetown; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Norma Mason.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown, with the Rev. Jack Hall officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 15, at the funeral home. Burial is in Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown.

Helen Marie Baker
Helen Marie Baker, 79, of 423 S. Ledford St., Harrisburg, died 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at her residence.
She was born March 7, 1921, in the Walnut Grove Community of Saline County to John and Cora (Stone) Mann. She married
J. B. Baker Nov. 2, 1940. He survives.
Visitation is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Reed Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ron Simpson officiating. Burial is at Lindale cemetery in Eldorado.
Mrs. Baker was a homemaker and member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son Ronald J. and wife Glenda Baker of Ridgway; a brother Huland Mann of Pontiac, Mich.; a sister Gladys Chapdelaine of Pontiac, Mich.; a grandson Kevin and wife Andrea Baker of Mt. Vernon; and a great-grandchild Morgan Baker of Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Johnny Mann, and a sister Myrtle Hunt.
Reba Hughes
Reba Hughes, 96, of Galatia died 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at the home of her nephew, Keith Deal in Galatia.
She was born May 21, 1904, in Raleigh, to George and Katie (Haynes) Thornberry. She married
Lawrence "Hoss" Hughes on December 24, 1924.
He preceded her in death April 12, 1980.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time Friday, Oct. 6, at Sloan Funeral Home of Galatia. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Sloan Funeral Home of Galatia, with the Rev. Denny Steed officiating. Burial is in Raleigh Masonic cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes attended the First Baptist Church of Galatia.
She is survived by two sisters Georgia Raybourn of Raleigh; and Ruth Deal of Galatia; a nephew, Keith Deal and wife, Betty of Galatia; a niece, Marilyn Lane of Harrisburg; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, one sister, and a nephew-in-law Dan Lane.
Ruth Marie Baird
Ruth Marie Baird, 52, of Orlando, Fla., and formerly of this area, died 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
She was born Sept. 8, 1948, in Eldorado to Gerald and Mary (Taylor) Bradley. She married
Larry Baird Oct. 9, 1972. He survives.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Services are 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Watson Funeral Home. Burial is at Wolf Creek cemetery in Eldorado. The Rev. Curt Yarbrough is officiating.
Mrs. Baird was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, her mother-in-law Loretta Baird; a sister Debbie Allen; two sons, Devon and Justin of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Amber and Ashley of Orlando, Fla.; and a granddaughter Marissa of Orlando, Fla. Her father preceded her in death.
