Doris Nell Dardeen
Doris Nell Dardeen, 78, of Muddy, died 11:12 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at Lindale cemetery. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg is in charge of the arrangements. She was born August 29, 1923, in Carrier Mills to Cecil E. and Muriel (Reeder) Rice. On Nov. 16, 1940, she married
George R. Dardeen, who survives.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, James Dardeen of Benton; a daughter, Becky (Jim) Schmook of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Mike Schmook, Kelly Dardeen, and Karen Ninis; four great-grandchildren, Cody and Jarod Schmook and Jacob and Adam Ninis; a brother, Joe Rice of Carrier Mills; and a sister, Donna O'Neal of Harrisburg.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Rice; and two brothers and one sister in infancy.
Ralph C. Evetts
Ralph C. Evetts, 70, of Carrier Mills, died 1:05 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. John Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Henshaw cemetery near Stonefort. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American Legion Posts. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 18, 1932, in the Stonefort community in Williamson County, the son of John B. "Brack" and Katie (Cowsert) Evetts. He was united in marriage to Millie Farris, who preceded him in death. He was later united in marriage to Willadean (Roark) on Oct. 6, 1989, in Morganfield, Ky., and she survives.
Ralph was a retired asphalt truck driver. He was a member of the Teamsters Union in Gary, Ind. He was a graduate of the Henshaw Public School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a 34-year member of the Carrier Mills American Legion Post and a life member of the Creal Springs VFW Post. Ralph enjoyed auto mechanic work and reading Western novels. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife and children.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John Evetts of Gary, Ind.; a daughter, Deborah Kidd of Carrier Mills; seven stepchildren; nine grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 24 stepgrandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Irene King of Carrier Mills and Dorothy (Walter) Chaffin of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by a son, Charles Evetts; four stepgrandchildren; and two brothers, Charles and Robert Evetts.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Henshaw cemetery. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Zelma Louise Owens
Zelma Louise Owens, 84, of rural Route 1, Golconda, died 3:20 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at her residence.
Services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda with the Rev. Allen Speer and the Rev. Billy Green officiating. Burial was in Prospect cemetery west of Golconda. Visitation was after 6 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born August 17, 1917, in Pope County to George and Ivy (Davis) Dunning. She was the widow of Alfred Owens, who preceded her in death on August 2, 1997.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Golconda.
She is survived by a son, Bill (Donna) Owens of Golconda; two grandchildren, Joe (Renee) Owens and Kathy (Tim) Simmons, both of Golconda; a brother, James Dunning of Golconda; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by seven sisters and one brother.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Lourdes Hospice or Golconda First Baptist Church.
William Keating
William Keating, 72, of Jonesboro, Ark., died 12:10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in East Memphis, Tenn.
Services were held 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating. Burial was in the Raleigh Masonic cemetery in Raleigh. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Eldorado to M.J. and Mary (Milligan) Keating. He was married
to Betty Jean Oglesby Keating, who survives. He was a retired field supervisor at Halliburton Oil Well Services and a member of Magnolia Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Ark.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William Michael Keating of Harrisburg; a daughter, Deborah Jean Rennels of Jonesboro, Ark.; a brother, Michael Keating of New Johnsonville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Holly Rennels Cockrell of Jonesboro, Scott Anthony Rennels of Jonesboro, Tyler Shea Rennels of Jonesboro, Kristopher Michael Keating of Harrisburg, Patrick William Keating of Harrisburg; and a great-grandchild, Christopher Cade Cockrell of Jonesboro.

Frieda I. Monroe
Frieda I. Monroe, 96, of Route 1, Wayne City, died 3:35 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2002, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Richard McCormick and the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial was in Garrison cemetery near Adem. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was survived by a son, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Larry L. Ferrell
Larry L. Ferrell, 67, of 2 Dogwood Place, Harrisburg, died 11:10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002.
A celebration of life will be held 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with former U.S. Rep. Glenn Poshard, the Rev. Joey Dunning, the Rev. John Black and the Rev. Gary Clark officiating. Visitation is 3 p.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Salem cemetery in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Harl Cockrum and the Rev. Vernell Clark officiating. Those attending are asked to gather at the cemetery.
He was born Sept. 27, 1934, in Saline County to the late Lee and Opal (Brothers) Ferrell. On June 22, 1963, he married
the former Phyllis Black, who survives.
He was an Army veteran, a retired coal miner for Sahara Coal and Brushy Creek mines and a member of South America Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Kyle Enz of Carrier Mills; three grandchildren, Mallary Nolen, Jennifer Nolen and Amanda Martin and two great-grandchildren, Baliegh Martin and Baden Ditterline.

Jack Dudley
Jack Dudley, 59, of 14 Acorn Drive, Harrisburg, died 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Jack Hood officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Garden cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 19, 1942 in Harrisburg to Elfie (Duke) and the late Aaron Dudley.
He was a laborer at the Coleman Tri-County Workshop in Norris City. He attended the First Church of God in Harrisburg and was an award-winning Special Olympian.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Donna (Darren) Walker of Harrisburg; a brother, David (Dawn) Dudley of Galatia; several aunts, uncles, three nieces, two nephews and a grandniece.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Saline Association for Retarded Citizens or to the First Church of God Building Fund.
Sydney Dawn Brasher
Sydney Dawn Brasher, infant daughter of Derik and Pamela (Morris) Brasher of Harrisburg, was stillborn at 1:02 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Graveside services preceded burial 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at the Salem cemetery in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Joey Dunning officiating. Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills was in charge of the arrangements.
Surviving in addition to her parents are: maternal grandparents Jerry and Patty Morris of Harrisburg; paternal grandparents James and Barbara Brasher of Harrisburg and numerous other relatives and friends.
Nora Belle Brittain
Nora Belle Brittain, 65, of Harrisburg, died 11:25 a.m. Sept. 21, 2002, at the home of her daughter in Harrisburg.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Ledford cemetery outside Harrisburg with the Rev. Ray Clayton officiating. Everyone attending should go directly to the cemetery. Gaskins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Oct. 4, 1936 in Johnson City, Tenn. to Robert E. and Martha E. (Laws) Young. On Dec. 2, 1953, she married
Durwood "Dewey" Brittain, who survives.
She was a retired cook at West Side School and a member of the Land Street Church of God.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Daniel (Party) Brittain of Harrisburg and Dewayne W. (Jann) Brittain of Matthews, Ala.; three daughters, Debra (Ed) Nugent, Carolyn (Rick) King and LaCrecia Hess, all of Harrisburg; four brothers, David (Joyce) Young, Jerry (Louise) Young and Robert Young, all of Westland, Mich. and Dana (Jean) Young of Florida; three sisters, Betty (Dick) Peters and Carol (Ray) Clayton, both of Jonesboro, Tenn. and Wilma Rose (Jim) Molitor of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Gordon (Edith) Brittain of Cave-in-Rock; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Carrier Rhamann.
