Clarence R. Oglesby, 87, of rural Route 2, McLeansboro, died 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at the I.O.O.F. cemetery in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
He is survived by his wife Fern; a daughter and two grandchildren.
Leon O. Vaughan
Leon O. Vaughan, 62, of McLeansboro, died 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at his residence.
Services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at New Salem Baptist Church west of Dale with the Rev. John Lee and the Rev. Harl Cockrum officiating. Burial was in Wolf Creek cemetery outside Eldorado. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. by Walpole Tuscan Lodge No. 630 A.F. and A.M.
He is survived by his wife Charlene.
Mary Catherine McCormick Oldham
Mary Catherine McCormick Oldham, 82, died at Harrisburg Medical Center, Harrisburg, at 12:05 p.m. August 9, 2002.
Mrs. Oldham was born in Ridgway on Sept. 20, 1919. Her parents were Joseph William McCormick and Julia A. Wallace. Mary married
Charles Irvin Oldham on Sept. 1, 1940. He preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 2001.
She was a homemaker and secretary of Oldham Brothers Inc., a family-owned farming and diversified agribusiness. A faithful servant and member of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Among her community former activities were officer and member of St. Mary's Altar Society; secretary, Gallatin County Fair Association; longtime 4-H club leader; longtime religious education teacher; former officer and member of Shawneetown Women's Club; president of both the Deanery and Dioscean Council of Catholic Women; active volunteer for a variety of civic and service organizations; first membership chairwoman of the Gallatin County Historical Society.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo Oldham Morgan and Larry Morgan of Shawneetown; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles Jr. and Elizabeth Oldham of Shawneetown; her grandchildren, Mary Beth and Scott Belanger of Marion, Charles and Kim Oldham III of Shawneetown and Joseph William Oldham of Shawneetown; her five great-grandsons, Charles Nathan and Dustin Oldham of Shawneetown, Jonah, Zachary and Seth Belanger of Marion; her sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and John Fals of Equality; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clarence I. and Joan Oldham of Shawneetown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; granddaughter, Catherine Ann Oldham; sister, Eva L. Rider; and brother, Joseph William McCormick Jr.
The family will receive visitors at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown from 4 to 8 p.m. with prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002. Services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown on Monday, Aug. 12, 2002 at 10 a.m. with Father Don Abell officiating.
Burial will be in the historic Wedgewood cemetery near Shawneetown.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church of Shawneetown or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Edward William Ellis Jr.
Edward William Ellis Jr., 63, Evansville, Ind., died 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 at Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Ind.
Graveside services are 11:30 a.m Monday, Aug. 12, 2002 at Blooming Grove cemetery near McLeansboro with graveside military rites by the American Legion Post No. 106. Visitation is 10:30 a.m. until time of service at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ellis, three sons, two stepsons, two stepdaughters, one brother and 16 grandchildren.
James Edward 'Garbo' Williams
James Edward "Garbo" Williams, 82, died 4:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at his home, 904 S. McKinley St., Harrisburg.
He was born Jan. 31, 1922, and is survived by his wife, Ora Williams, and other family members.
Arrangements are in the charge of the Gaskins Funeral Home and are pending.
Betty J. Saxe
Betty J. Saxe, 76, of Albion died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Nale's Funeral Home in Albion. Rev. Kirk Smith will officiate, with burial in Graceland cemetery.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Golden Gate, the daughter of Bennie and Emma J. (Bowman) Hudson.
She married
Dwight Saxe on Oct. 16, 1947, in Golden Gate.
She worked at the Veterans Administration for 10 years, the ASC Office for five years, and was a school bus driver for 27 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Wesley Belle Circle and the H.O.A. Club.
Survivors include her husband, Dwight Saxe of Albion; one son, Kenny Saxe of Mt. Carmel; three daughters, Linda Saxe of Harrisburg, Elaine Zetina of Haubstadt, Ind., and Mary Beth and husband Steve Smith of Albion; two brothers, Kenneth Hudson of Sterling and Forrest Hudson of Rock Falls; two sisters, Alice Buccola of Dixon and Judy Barnes of Bloomington; and six grandchildren, John and Ben Zetina; Jonathan, Courtney and Kendra Saxe, and Gabriel Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2002, at White Oak cemetery in Creal Springs with Bro. Bob Donelson officiating. Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2002, at Cosby-Sloan Funeral Home in Creal Springs.
She is survived by a daughter, 14 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 43 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a special friend, and two daughters-in-law.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Ebenezer Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Don King officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia.
He was born Nov. 11, 1952, in Christopher to the late Oscar and Mary (Springs) Burlison.
He was a farmer and a member of Ebenezer Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by a son, Ryan Burlison of Galatia; a daughter, Beth Burlison of Galatia; a stepson, Bobby Travelstead of Calif.; a stepdaughter, Jimmie Travelstead of Thompsonville; two brothers, Arthur of Columbia and Donald of Bourbonnais; a sister, Marie Smothers of Galatia; and a stepgranddaughter, Kristin Travelstead of Thompsonville.

Ray Paris, 83, of Washington, formerly of Rosiclare, died 8:17 a.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Edwin Beasley and the Rev. Richard Fitzwater officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Temple; one son; one daughter; and five grandchildren.

Mary Ellen Harper Brown
Mary Ellen Harper Brown, 70, died Friday, June 29, 2002, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Harrisburg, and was graduated from Harrisburg High School in the class of 1949. Since 1966, she had resided with her family in Oklahoma City. Her family will remember her as a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family and friends, her investment and bridge clubs. Preceding her in death were her parents Harry and Pauline (Taylor) Harper, and a sister, Dorothy (Harper) Reitstetter. Survivors include: husband of 52 years, Walter D. Brown; sons, James M. Brown and Steven H. Brown; a daughter, Patricia E. Bishop, all of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; a brother, Harry L. Harper of Harrisburg.
An evening prayer service was held 7 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2002, at Smith & Kernke Chapel, Oklahoma City, Okla., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church followed by interment in Memorial Park cemetery.
