Richard F. Roberts
Richard F. Roberts was the son of Albert and Alma Roberts, born March 13, 1918, and attended the schools in Eldorado. He spent 4 1/2 years in the Army during World War II, serving in a tank destroyer group under General George Patton. He was wounded in Germany and awarded the Purple Heart. Upon returning home from the war, he attended and graduated from the Emerson Electric and TV repairs school in St. Louis, Mo. He worked for the Chicago Transit Co. in Chicago and later was assistant manager for a Kresge store in Chicago. After several years, he and his wife moved to St. Louis where they became associated with Peerless Wholesale Supply Co. for 13 years. In 1959, he took over the operations of the family farm, retiring in 1980, and until his death, he and his wife spent the winters in Lakeland, Fla.
He passed away 4:10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
He and his wife, Helen Bramlet Roberts, were married
Aug. 30, 1947. He is also survived by a sister, Pauline Akens of Dallas, Texas; a nephew, Jerry Akens, also of Dallas, Texas; several great-nephews and a great-niece. He was preceded in death by a niece, Patricia Roberts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McKinley Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund or Carmi Baptist Childrens' Home.
He was a Mason and active church member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church since 1962.
Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery with full military honors. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at the funeral home.
Kenneth Wayne Russell
Kenneth Wayne Russell, 62, of 1203 S. Feazel St., Harrisburg, died 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Kendall Jones officiating. Burial will be in Level Hill cemetery. Visitation is noon to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
He is survived by a son, four daughters, two sisters, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Geneva Josephine Vaughn
Geneva Josephine Vaughn, 95, of Rosiclare, died 5:05 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at General Baptist Church in Rosiclare with the Rev. Gary Hardesty officiating. Burial will be in Fluorine cemetery in Rosiclare. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare.
She is survived by a son, a brother, one grandchild, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Thomas Pepper
Thomas Pepper, 43, a resident of Old Shawneetown, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2002, at his residence after an extended illness.
At his request, his body will be cremated and a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are in the charge of Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Pepper; a son; two daughters; three brothers and two sisters.
James 'Jim' Nelson Miller
James "Jim" Nelson Miller, 48, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Chouteau, Okla.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown with the Rev. Wade Halva officiating. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Dec. 6, 1953 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Dr. Tom and Lois (Nelson) Miller.
He was a professional driver for Willis Shaw Express Inc. He was a Presbyterian and a graduate of the University of Arkansas. He was a member of the Golden Key Honorary Society and Phi Gamma Delta.
He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Lucy Bugea and Diana Simpson, both of Springdale, Ark. and two nieces, Carolyn and Jennifer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
Kenneth Dale Crane
Kenneth Dale Crane, 79, of 164 W. Denton St., Shawneetown, died 2:16 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1922 in Shawneetown to the late Ernest and Della (Putman) Crane. On Nov. 22, 1943, he married
the former Louise Barley, who survives.
He was a retired Ridgway Popcorn Factory worker.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Charlene and John Trousdale of Ridgway, Helen Lane of Shawneetown and Bobby D. (Martha) Crane of Harrisburg; two sisters, Wilma (Otis) Wallace of Shawneetown and Lucille Winters of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, Herman Crane of Evansville, Ind. and Wilbur Crane of Uniontown, Ohio; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-stepgrandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ida Vaughn.
Ella Aline Kelley
Ella Aline Kelley, 77, of Briddick St., Eldorado, died 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at her residence.
Services were held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Gospel Assembly Church in Eldorado with the Rev. Dewayne Jolly officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery near Eldorado. Visitation was 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home.
She was born Sept. 8, 1925 in DuQuoin to Dewey Carrington and Louvenia Chloe (Mattson) Kelley. On Sept. 8, 1969, she married
Robert Carl Kelley Jr., who preceded her in death on March 2, 1994.
She was a member of the Eldorado Gospel Assembly Church, the Eldorado Golden Circle, the Retail Clerks Association and the AARP.
She is survived by a son, Gregory Kelley of Eldorado; two sisters, Helen J. Kelley of DuQuoin and Gertrude Lilla (Kelley) Rabe of Pinckneyville and one grandchild, Rebecca Ruth (Kelley) Fournier of Atlanta, Ga.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the VNA Hospice.

Mamie Mills, 101, a resident of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Galatia, died 5:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at her residence.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with Howard Scott and Brian Morrow officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery near Eldorado. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Oct. 22, 1900 in Brimfield to the Rev. H.B. and Avis (Robinson) Cox. She was the widow of Gordie Mills.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Eldorado First Christian Church. She was a member of the Golden Circle and the Eldorado Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a son, Bob Mills of LaQuinta, Calif.; two daughters, Joann Lanham of Harrisburg and Avis Mills Johnson of Boca Raton, Fla.; a niece, Betty Stricklin of Eldorado; five grandchildren, Mike Tite of Eldorado, Curtis Tite of O'Fallon, Mo., Janet Chev, Diana Daugherty and David Johnson, all of Florida; 14 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Mills.
Robert Kyle Lissak
Robert Kyle Lissak, 19, of Carnahan St., Eldorado, died 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Norris City.
Services will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery near Eldorado. Visitation is 2 p.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was born March 26, 1983, to George R. and Paula (Buttry) Lissak of Eldorado, who survive.
He was a 2001 graduate of Eldorado High School, loved outdoor activites and fishing and was a student at Southeastern Illinois College.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepmother, Susan Lissak of Newburgh, Ind.; his maternal grandmother, Wilma Buttry of Norris City; a brother, Heith Lissak of Eldorado; a stepbrother, Michael Barr of Evansville, Ind.; an aunt, Mrs. Rick Lynne Jo Cruse and two uncles, Robby Buttry and Eddie Lissak.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, David (Crockett) Buttry and paternal grandparents Gene and Barbara Lissak.
James Underwood
James Underwood of Harrisburg, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion.

He was the husband of Sarah Underwood.
