William J. "Bill" Schuster, 81, of Piopolis, died 11:40 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis with Msgr. Joseph Lawler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside military services by VFW Post No. 3851 of Carmi. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. There will be a prayer service 7:30 p.m. with Msgr. Joseph Lawler officiating.
He was he husband of Marian Schuster.
Cliff Morris
Cliff Morris, 75, of Sikeston, Mo., formerly of Ridgway, died 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at his residence. Services will be held Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, Mo. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the funeral home. Peggy Ann Lukancic
Peggy Ann Lukancic, 67, of 800 S. Granger St., Harrisburg, died 4:55 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at her residence. She was the wife of William "Bill" Lukancic.
In keeping with her wishes, her body will be cremated and a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
Further family information and funeral arrangements will be available later. Arrangements are in the charge of Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg.
Mary G. Edmondson
Mary G. Edmondson, 92, of 256 Trammel St., Carrier Mills, died 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Christopher Scott and the Rev. Harl Cockrum officiating. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born August 11, 1909, in Union County to Frant and Martha (Dameron) Mangum. On May 5, 1929, she married
Frank Edmondson, who survives.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Carrier Mills and was retired from Anna State Hospital.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Gerald (Colleen) Edmondson of Carrier Mills and Lyman (Gladys) Edmondson of Creal Springs; grandchildren Richard and Debbie Edmondson of Creal Springs, Jerry Edmondson of Carrier Mills, and Linda and Christopher Scott of Beardstown; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Jason Edmondson.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Mary (Rose) Robinson
Mary (Rose) Robinson, 82, of Kewanna, Ind., died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the hospital in Rochester, Ind. She was born in Harrisburg on Christmas Day 1919 to Elvis Rose and Beulah (Wallace) Rose and attended schools in Harrisburg and Saline County. She married
L.O. Robinson in Indianapolis, Ind., but has lived about 20 years in Kewanna. She is survived by by her husband, "Robbie"; three sisters, Bonnie Proffitt, Brenda Dixon, and Janet Barnard; and two brothers, Russell Rose and Sam Rose. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Velma Parks, Lee Wanna Kirkham, and Loretta Davis.
In accord with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service in her honor will be held at Metzger Funeral Home in Kewanna on Saturday, June 1.
Nell Hays Collins
Nell Hays Collins, 89, formerly a resident of Harrisburg, passed away Dec. 24, 2001, at the Terrace Nursing Home in Waukegan. She was born July 11, 1912, in Cleaton, Ky., the daughter of Elman S. and Ona Mae Hays. Nell grew up in Harrisburg and was a 1932 graduate of Harrisburg Township High School. Nell and her husband, Peyton M. Collins, owned and operated Collins Shoe Store in Waukegan for almost 30 years before retiring to Harrisburg in 1972. Nell moved to Gurnee in 1986 and was a member of the First Christian Church of Gurnee.
She is survived by two daughters, Bette (Richard) Aho of Gurnee and Patricia (Frank) Krajacic of Kenosha, Wis.; four grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; one nephew, Donald (Masuko) Duncan of Harrisburg; one niece, Barbara (James) Coker of Arlington, Texas; and many great-nephews and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peyton, in 1978 and three sisters, Geneva Duncan, Pearl Adams, and Mildred Hays.
A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Sunset Hill cemetery in Harrisburg with the Rev. Howard Scott of the Harrisburg First Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are being made by Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
Esther Mae Smith
Esther Mae Smith, 86, of Harrisburg, formerly of Galatia, died 10:10 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at her residence.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with Dr. James Baldwin officiating.
Burial will be in Lebanon cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Saline County to the late Randle and Recie (Karnes) Tate. On Sept. 2, 1950, she married
Raymond "Chigger" Smith, who preceded her in death.
She was a housekeeper and a needle craftsman.
She is survived by a daughter, Weida (Smith) Aud of Harrisburg; two brothers, Charles Bryce Tate of Washington and Norman Otto Tate of Galatia; a sister, Lorene Tate of Galatia; and nieces and great-nieces.
William A. 'Bill' Summers
William A. "Bill" Summers, 88, of Overland Park, Kansas, formerly from Eldorado, died 10 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at his residence.
Born September 17, 1913, William A. Summers was the son of Judge Arthur W. Summers and Georgia Horn Summers. He lived as a child in Eldorado and graduated from high school there in 1932. As a young man he worked for a period as a typesetter for the Eldorado Daily Journal. He attended Southern Illinois University. Then he entered the Army where he had his life's career, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
In the Army, he operated Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps in Wisconsin, Illinois, Nevada and Utah. In World War II, he trained infantrymen and served in the occupation of Germany.
He served in both Japan and Korea during the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of American Legion Post 169.
Following his active service he lived for many years in Chicago where he worked in the automobile business.
He was preceded in death by two other siblings, Norman Dale Summers and Mary Austin Summers. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Summers Morse of Prairie Village, Kan.; grandsons Michael and Mitchell Morse of Leawood, Kan.; great-grandsons Mason and Jackson Morse of Leawood, Kan.; sister, Martha Louise Summers Wiley, formerly of Eldorado and Harrisburg and now in East Lansing, Mich.; and brother, George Donald Summers of Reston, Va.
John Bennett Dotson
John Bennett Dotson, 83, of Harrisburg, died 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Leavenworth, Ind., to Joe Christofferson and Oneida Dotson. On June 5, 1958, he married
the former Marjorie Mugge, who survives.
He attended the Harrisburg First Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II with the 1st Armored Division in Africa, Sicily, and Italy and was a Tech Sgt. in 47th Medics. He was a schoolteacher and coach. He was past president of 1st Armored Division Assoc. in 1988 and 1989, 5-year member of Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star in Crawford County, Ind., and member of the Egyptian Shrine Club.
Mr. Dotson first taught school in English, Ind., and later at Paducah Junior College, he coached basketball and baseball in Harrisburg in 1956 to 1961 and in Vincennes, Ind., 1961 to 1964. Mr. Dotson was a teacher who cared about his kids getting an education with 131 boys getting in college with full scholarships.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Sonny (Sherry) Dotson of Harrisburg; a daughter, Patricia (Everett) Zarse of Greenwood, Ind.; four grandchildren, Josh, Thad and Nathan Zarse and Emily Dotson; two brothers-in-law, Bob and Mac Mugge of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests donations to the John Dotson Scholarship Fund at Southeastern Illinois College in lieu of flowers.
Mabel Sanders
Mabel Sanders, 99, of McLeansboro, died 10:10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Ron Lamp officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation is noon to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
She is survived by a son, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Monsignor John E. "Jack" Stallings, 77, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., formerly of Shawneetown, died May 22, 2002.
A memorial mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown and further family information will be announced later.

Kenneth D. Smithpeters, 57, of Belle Chasse, La., formerly of McLeansboro, died 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La.
Graveside military services only provided by VFW Post No. 3851 at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at I.O.O.F. cemetery in McLeansboro under the direction of Harre Funeral Home of McLeansboro.
Edith Vechione
Edith Vechione, 99, died Monday, May 13, 2002, in El Paso, Texas.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Wolf Creek cemetery in Eldorado with Fr. Don Abell officiating. There will be no visitation. Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Dec. 2, 1902, in England, to W.T. "Billy" and Annie (Means) Johnstone. She married
Roy J. Miller, who preceded her in death. She then married
Joseph Vechione, who also preceded her in death.
She worked at the Eldorado Water Department for 25 years.
She is survived by four nieces, Rita Jean (Johnstone) Grace, Ruth Ann (Johnstone) Gibson, Edith Ann (Hamilton) Mueth, and Bernadine (Hamilton) Darling; and a brother, Dr. John Hick (Ruth) Johnstone of El Paso, Texas.
In addition to both her husbands and her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Hamilton of Equality.
