Laura Elizabeth Ewing, 76, of Brighton, died 1:15 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with Dr. Kenneth Morgan officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Visitation is 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born June 6, 1925, in Herod, to the late Edward and Verba (Carter) Harrison. In 1941, she married
Samuel R. Ewing in Paducah, Ky., and he preceded her in death on April 30, 1990.
She was a fabricating inspector for Olin Corp., retiring in 1987 and was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and Women of the Moose.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Danny) Maronie of Jerseyville; Connie Schrimpf and Alan Schuetz of Alton; and Robyn (Chuck) Herring of Brighton; seven grandchildren, Jamie Moxey, Jennifer Halliday, Tammie Rister, Melissa King, Greg Hertz, Aryn Herring, and Andrew Herring; and 10 grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Georgewitz; and three brothers, Edward "Tommy" Harrison, Herschel Harrison, and Howard Harrison.
Imogene F. Raymer
Imogene F. Raymer, 80, of 102 Cherokee Dr., Harrisburg, died 12:08 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Mike Davis and the Rev. Richard Hubble officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Oct, 2, 1921, in Saline County in the Eagle Creek community to the late Loy C. and Volney May (Colbert) Raymer.
She worked as a cashier for CIPS for 33 years. Two churches were very important in Imogene's life. In her early years, the Gaskins City Missionary Baptist Church provided the foundation for her faith. Later, the First Baptist Church family inspired her to renew her commitment because of Faith Team visitation.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Jean Raymer of Aurora, and a nice, Suzanne Gibbs of Harrisburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ethyleen Gibbs; a brother, Don Raymer; and a niece, Terry Raymer.
Betty June Vinyard
Betty June Vinyard, 64, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Harrisburg, passed away April 19, 2002 at Hope Hospice House in Fort Myers.
Graveside services will precede burial 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002 at Coffee cemetery with the Rev. Art Donley officiating. The body has been cremated. J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home of Harrisburg is in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 28, 1937, in Harrisburg to the late Robert I. and Francis B. (Baker) Vinyard.
Surviving are a son, Allen and Michelle Vinyard, Fort Myers; two grandchildren, Mallorie N. Vinyard and Alexandra M. Vinyard; two sisters, Etta Carter of Anderson, Ind. and Alice Navin of Batavia; one brother, Kenneth Vinyard of Independence, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary Duncan and Maxine Rambis.
She was a former waitress in Harrisburg and worked at Norge-Fedders Corp. in Herrin before moving to Fort Myers.
Evelyn Watson
Evelyn Watson, 81, of Harrisburg, died 5:25 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2002, at the Harrisburg Care Center.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Ledford cemetery. Visitation is noon to service time Sunday at the funeral home.
She was born June 27, 1920, in Kansas City, Kan., to J.W. and Emma Lou (Reneer) Crowder. On Feb. 1, 1935, she married
William "Bill" Watson, who preceded her in death on June 15, 1988.
She was a Baptist by faith.
She is survived by two sons, Carl Watson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Ray Watson of Harrisburg; eight daughters, Lou Sharp of Owensboro, Ky., Hazel Coffman of Beach Grove, Ky., Shirley Reeves of O'Fallen, Mo., Jo Anna Holland of Galatia, Brenda Nelson of Harrisburg, Carolyn Watson of St. Charles, Mo., Willye Smock of Harrisburg, and Deanna Ferrell of Harrisburg; 27 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Watson; a daughter, Dianna Watson; two brothers, Ray and Bill Crowder; and a sister, Arlie Mae Watson.
Debra Hancock
Debra Hancock, 45, 2060 Blackman Hill Road, Harrisburg, died 12:45 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Ind.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Mitchellsville. The Rev. James Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia cemetery. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002 at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home, Harrisburg.
She was born Sept. 1, 1056 in Douglas Wyoming to Earl and Elsie (Hancock) Moore.
She is survived by a daughter, Becky (Darren) Ward, Harrisburg; two brothers, Lonny Hancock, Nampa, Wyo., and Matthew Hancock, Burgow, N.C.; two sisters, Earlene Cantrell, Bowling Green, Ky., and Barbara Petry, Louisville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Jacob, Garrick and Macey Ward, all of Harrisburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Loyd Dennis Moore
Loyd Dennis Moore, 93, of 1010 N. Main St., Carrier Mills, died 9:20 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Steve Dunn and the Rev. Harl Cockrum officiating. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, at at the funeral home.
He was born July 7, 1908, in Saline County to the late George Gilbert "Polly" and Lucy Adeline (Baker) Moore. On April 18, 1929, he married
Ivah Beatrice Milburn, who preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 1988.
He was a retired coal miner at Sahara Coal Company and a member of First Baptist Church at Carrier Mills.
He is survived by two daughters, Sue (Tom) Syers of Carrier Mills and Patricia (Clyde) Durfee, also of Carrier Mills.; three grandchildren, Mike (Tammy) Syers of Carrier Mills, Julie (Steve) Dunn of Harrisburg, and Denise Furlong of Florida; four great-grandchildren, Brandi Furlong, Alyssa Syers, and Jessica and Sarah Dunn.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and George Moore; and three sisters, Viola Clements, Mary Robinson, and Frances Moore.
David M. Read
David M. Read, 55, of Broughton, died 2:39 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Ray Essary officiating. Burial will be in Ingram Hill cemetery in Pankeyville. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Tina; his father, stepmother, brother, four sisters, stepbrother, father-in-law, stepmother, and four step-sisters-in-law.
Mildred M. Marshel
Mildred M. Marshel, 82, of Sims, died 7:15 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2002 at Jeffersonia Nursing Home, Mount Vernon.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002 at the Sims Congregational Church in Sims. The Rev. Ivan Kunce and the Rev. Marvin McCormick will officiate. Burial is in Thomason cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City.
She is survived her husband, Raymond Marshel, one son, three daughters, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Jewell L. DeVillez
Jewell L. DeVillez, 81, of Kuttawa, Ky., formerly of Eldorado, died 2:50 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at Riverbend Retirement Home in Kuttawa.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born August 14, 1920, in Eldorado to the late James C. and Zilpha (Shane) Lassiter. She was married
to Kenneth C. DeVillez, who preceded her in death in 1982.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Dolores DeVillez of Kuttawa, Ky.; two grandchildren, Chuck DeVillez of Kuttawa, Ky. and Carla DeVillez of Oakland, Calif.; three sisters, Jane Sturgill of Wood River, Mildred Sturgill of Warden, and Dortha Allard of Manchester, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, James B. Lassiter, and a sister, Hazel Lassiter Nave.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
