Emma J. Smith
Emma J. Smith, 72, of Ridgway, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Private graveside services will be held at Old Cottonwood cemetery in Omaha. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway.
She was born Aug. 29, 1929 in Henshaw, Ky. to the late Hershel Hopson and Vivian (Taylor) Mosley. She was married
to Andrew Smith Sr., who preceded her in death in 1994.
She was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and sister.
She is survived by two sons, Andrew Smith Jr. of Ridgway and Hershel (Melinda) Smith of Ridgway; two daughters, Emma (Don) Lutz of Ridgway and Janet (John) Hopson of Equality; a brother, Everett (Opal) Hopson of Shawneetown; two sisters, Joyce (J.W.) Rider of Ridgway and Mary (Hubert) Combs of Shawneetown; nine grandchildren, Carla and Lisa Holmes, Tonya, Lee, Chris and Marsha Smith and Lori, Emily and Alex Hopson and two great-grandchildren, Aundrea McCoy and Caleb Smith.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John William Smith, and a brother, Hershel Hopson.
Daisy Mae Shirley
Daisy Mae Shirley, 66, of 730 College Drive, Eldorado, died 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at her residence.
The body will be cremated. Funeral date and time are being kept private. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are in the charge of Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
She was born Feb. 13, 1936 in Ridgway to Eva (Horton) and the late Joe Smith. She married
Claude C. Shirley, who survives.
She was a nurse and a member of College Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by three sons, Joe Shirley, Steven Holding and Tony Richard Holding, all of Eldorado; four daughters, Vicky Paro of Herod, Wendy Michelle Hammons of Tennesee, and Donna Lee Grimes and Tracy Lynn Miller, both of Alabama; a brother, Gerald Dean Smith of Eldorado; three sisters, Meryl Shank and Connie McSparin, both of Eldorado and Karen Patterson of Missouri; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Rachel Wargel
Rachel Wargel, 95, of Equality, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at her residence.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Equality with Fr. Don Abell officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery in Equality. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Benny G. Hudnell
Benny G. Hudnell, 66, a resident of 1103 S. Main St., died 3:42 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in VA Medical Center in Marion.
Arrangements are pending at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg.
He was the husband of Belva (Butcher) Hudnell.
Mary Emily (Wallace) Edwards
Mary Emily (Wallace) Edwards died 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado. She was born Dec. 26, 1911, in Eldorado to Guy and Chloe (Nash) Wallace and graduated in 1929 from Eldorado Township High School.
She worked for the U.S. Treasury Department.
In 1936, she married
Jesse N. Edwards, who preceded her in death in 1996. After living in Chicago, Detroit and Newburgh, Ind., they settled in Carmi in 1948, where Jesse was engaged in the oil business.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carmi and the Women's Circle, the Newburgh Historical Society, the Junior League of Carmi, the White County Garden Club and she was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Carmi.
She is survived by two sons, John N. (Pat) Edwards of Blacksburg, Va., and Jeff S. Edwards of Chicago; a grandson, J.D. (Nancy) Edwards; a close friend, John Constant; three sisters, Martha Helen Williams of Matteson; Louise Wilson of Eldorado; Nell Wilson of Tinley Park; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ellen Wallace of Harrisburg and 10 nieces and nephews and their spouses. She also is survived by two first cousins, Sue Sterling and Peggy Horton, both of Eldorado.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and James Wallace.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church in Eldorado with the Rev. Jennifer Lewis and the Rev. Walter Baker officiating.
Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery near Eldorado.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado.
The body will lie in state at the church 10 a.m. to service time Friday.
Minnie Marie Hudgeons
Minnie Marie Hudgeons, 89, of Elizabethtown, died 8:15 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Hosick Funeral Home Chapel in Rosiclare. Burial will be in Lance-Nichols cemetery in Princeton, Ky. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at the funeral home.
She is survived by a nephew.
Dwight Jennings Frohock
Dwight Jennings Frohock, 80, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Sunday, July 28, 2002.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2002, at First Southern Baptist Church in Colorado Springs. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Colorado Springs. Arrangements are in the charge of Swan-Law Funeral Directors, Inc. in Colorado Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Nada (Brinkley) Frohock; and two daughters.
Clara Kathryn Edwards
Clara Kathryn Edwards, 86, of Sullivan, Ind., formerly of Linton, Ind. and Kewanee, died 7:20 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2002, at Miller's Merry Manor in Sullivan.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2002, at Welch & Cornett Li nton Chapel with the Rev. LaMont Bonath officiating. Burial is in Fairview cemetery in Linton. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, a sister, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a niece.
Allen R. Jones
Allen R. Jones, 65, of Cortez, Fla., formerly of Harrisburg, died 4:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002, in Cortez.
He was born March 20, 1937, in Kewanee to me late Otto and Adele (Lizdas) Jones. He worked as a laboratory technician for 32 years at Harrisburg Medical Center before his retirement in January 2000.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, a sister, Patty Norton, and a daughter in infancy.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Cortez; daughter, Candy Jones of Bellingham, Wash.; son, Robert and wife, Mary Jones of Harrisburg; stepson, Mark and wife, Windy Dawson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandchildren, Riley and Gillian Jones of Harrisburg; stepgranddaughter, Jennifer Orndorph of Indianapolis, Ind.; great-stepgrandchildren, Zachary and Tristin Terrell of Indianapolis.
A private service will be held in Florida.

Robert Brake, 77, of McLeansboro, died 5:03 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.

Phillip L. Hicks, 54, rural Route 2, Golconda, died 3:58 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Massac Memorial Hospital, Metropolis.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2002 at Hosick Funeral Home, Rottmann Chapel, in Golconda. The Rev. Robert Patton and the Rev. Glen "Bud" Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in Wattersburg cemetery near Golconda. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the funeral chapel.
He is survived by his wife, the former Georgia Werner, his mother, three sons, one brother, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Sarah Thompson
Sarah Thompson, 88, of Eldorado, died 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born May 7, 1914, in Mount Vernon, Ind., to Vollie and Miranda (Lopp) Ashworth. She was the widow of Clarence Thompson.
She was a legal secretary and a member of Gospel Assembly Church.
She is survived by two sons, Douglas Paul Thompson of Raleigh and Charles William Thompson of Columbia; a brother, Alfred Ashworth of Eldorado; a sister, Odessa Cox of Eldorado and three grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Hilton Ashworth and two sisters, Nellie Mattingly and Effie Ashworth.
