Burel 'Ned' Foreman
Burel "Ned" Foreman, 86, of Golconda, died 5:47 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002, at Odd Fellows cemetery in Golconda with the Rev. E.J. Cole officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are in the charge of Aly Funeral Home in Golconda.
He was the widower of Ruby Deweese. He is survived by a daughter, two granddaughters and a great-grandson.
Tobby Lane
Tobby Lane went home to be with the Lord 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2002. He was born May 8, 1928, to the late Roy and Blanche Mattingly Lane, the ninth of 15 children. He was married
to Emma Lou VonLienen Lane for 27 years until her death on Sept. 6, 1977. They had four children: Raymond and wife Beth, Connie and husband Rick Milligan, Tina Tullis and special friend Chris Ferrell of Harrisburg, and Alan and wife Linda of Virden. Tobby provided a home for Tina, Patrick and Naomi and was also Tina's very best friend. He is lovingly remembered by them and his six grandchildren: Rhett Lane, Patrick Tullis, Chrystal Milligan (Martin) Grant, Brooke Lane, Naomi Tullis, Brittany Lane and Autumn Milligan.
Sisters: Wanda Anderson, Donna (John) Beal, Becky (Jerry) Jones and brother, Scott (Hazel) Lane. He was preceded in death by the following sisters and brothers: Juanita Butler, Clara Ward, W.R. Lane, Bob Lane, Lee Lane, Pearl Hall, Imogene Brantley, Dan Lane and two babies that died in infancy. Tobby worked for the Southeastern Illinois Rural Electric Cooperative for over 25 years. His hard work ethic, honesty and kindness were his trademarks. He loved gardening and enjoyed sharing fresh produce with friends and those in need, and personally canning a storeroom full for winter. He also enjoyed taking long drives in his truck, going to auctions, his John Deere tractor, Snap-On tools, and his shed where he was always working on something for someone. He took great joy in attending Walnut Grove Church, bringing ice cream to Vacation Bible School kids and working on the Hillcrest Baptist Youth Camp. Until last year he fixed Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, with the best mashed potatoes around.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Services will be held at Walnut Grove Church 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002, with the Rev. Dave Miller officiating. Burial will be in Saline Ridge cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made in Tobby's name to the Hillcrest Baptist Youth Camp.
Anna Goldstein
Anna Goldstein, 81, of 301 Country Club Lane, Harrisburg, died 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel with Dr. Sam Goldman officiating. A private family burial will be held later. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Warsaw, Poland to Gabriel and Lena (Firestone) Dancyger. On Sept. 10, 1946, she married
Dr. Alexander Goldstein, who survives.
She was a member of Temple Israel in Paducah, Ky. Anna graduated from the Lab Tech program in Frankfurt, Germany in 1949. She was active in Girl Scouts for many years and former Vice-President of the Shagbark Council. She was a Charter member of the Board of Directors of Friends of the Library, organized and ran the Brown Bags & Books review; volunteer services chair & co-chairperson of Celebrity Readers. She was past Officer of the Ladies Association at Shawnee Hills Country Club, past member of the Cultural Arts Committee of SIC; member of Xi Chi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Dr. Maryann (Dr. David) Benditt of Edina, Minn.; a son, Dr. Steven (Debbie) Goldstein of Los Alamos, N.M.; and four grandchildren, Hannah Benditt and Sara, Megan and Zachary Goldstein.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Kenneth C. Spirling
Kenneth C. Spirling, 67, of 606 N. Runkle St., Hanna City, died 11:48 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Born May 14, 1935, in Harrisburg to Kenneth T. and Judith Porter Spirling, he married
Jeanette Bailliez on Nov. 5, 1954, in Glasford. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sherri (Paul) Lindley of Hanna City and Kim Spirling of Springfield; one son, Dan (Angie) of Mapleton; three sisters, Winnie D'amico of Chicago, Vina Carnett of Harrisburg and Sarah (Frank) Brown of Carrier Mills; a brother, Charles (Sue) Scott of Chicago; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
He was a Korean War Air Force veteran.
He was a machinist at Keystone Steel & Wire for 35 years until retiring in 1992.
He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge No. 106 A.F. and A.M. in Glasford and Hanna City Sportsman Club.
Services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. The Rev. Randy Snider officiated.
Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2002, at the chapel. Burial was in Smithville cemetery in Smithville.
Memorials may be made to Logan/Trivoli Rescue and Fire Department.
George R. Eadie
George R. Eadie, 78, of 1500 Pine Street, passed away 1:12 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2002, at the Eldorado Care Center. George was the youngest son of Joe and Myrtle (Bacon); born in Eldorado Sept. 24, 1923. He graduated from Eldorado High School with the class of 1941, having achieved honors academically and in several sports.
He entered the army air force serving as group navigator during the bombings of Plotesti Oil Fields of Romania; receiving numerous awards including a Purple Heart and a Distinguished Flying Cross.
He married
Ruth Butler of Eldorado on June 17, 1943. They have two daughters, Carolyn (Jerry) Crockett of Omaha and Rosalyn (Cecil) Uzzle of Marion; four grandchildren, Jerry Elliot of Marion, J.R. Munds Jr. of Eldorado, Joe Munds of Marion and Kale Uzzle of Marion. A sister, Helen Jane Harper of Eldorado, also survives him.
After the war, Mr. Eadie attended the Missouri school of mines and the University of Illinois when he earned a B.S. and M.S. in Mining Engineering.
His professional career has included operations in Pennsylvania and Illinois, teaching mining at the University of Illinois and Southern Indiana University.
He was editor of the professional magazine "Coal Mining" in Chicago and served for a number of years as a department head at the Illinois State Geological Survey in Champaign-Urbana.
He was an active member of the Society for mining engineers, having been division chairman of the coal division, and serving three terms on the board of directors of the society. He became a distinguished member of the society, an honor reserved for only 1 percent of the membership.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002, and funeral 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery with the Rev. Ron Jackson officiating. Memorials may be made to Eldorado College Heights Church and may be left at the funeral home.
Fern Furry
Fern Furry, 98, of 1000 W. Sloan St., Harrisburg, died 5:10 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Harrisburg Care Center.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002, at Sunset Lawn cemetery with the Rev. Kendall Jones officiating.
Visitation is 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home.
She was born April 15, 1904, in Rardin to Clinton B. and Margaret Pearl (Warfel) Stites. In 1920, she married
Alva "Pete" Furry, who preceded her in death on March 19, 1979.
She was a homemaker. She was a good neighbor and always there to help.
She is survived by a daughter, Viola Fink of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, David (Janice) Darrar of Cleveland, Tenn., Duke (Janet) Darrar of Hammond, Ind., and Rocky Solk of Challis, Idaho; two great-grandchildren, D'Andrea (Marsh) Goff and Kurt Darrar and many friends of all ages.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dean Darrar.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice, the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Anna Goldstein
Anna Goldstein passed away 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

She was the wife of Dr. Alexander Goldstein.
Ella Hickey Hutchison
Ella Hickey Hutchison, 58, of Harrison, Tenn., formerly of Muddy, passed away Friday, July 19, 2002. She had lived in Muddy most of her life before moving to Harrison. She was a member of Harvest Deliverance Church in Harrisburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Ora Banks Hickey.
Survivors are three sons, Richard Brown of Harrison, Tenn.; Michael Brown of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Eric Brown of Tunnel Hill, Ga.; a brother, Len Hickey of Florida; two sisters, Barbara Kassner of Muddy and Vivian Dallas of Paris, Tenn., and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Ownly Williams officiating. Burial will be at Harrison cemetery. The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2002, at the funeral home.
Cdr. William J. O'Connell
Cdr. William J. O'Connell, 82, of 485 Old Broughton Road, Eldorado, died 1:45 a.m. Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Equality with Father Mark Stec officiating. Military Services will be conducted by Eldorado American Legion Post 169. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery in Equality. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality.
He was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Dorchester, Mass., to the late Jerome and Nora (Coyne) O'Connell. On Nov. 18, 1941, he married
the former Dolores C. Moniz, who survives.
He was a 33 year retired Naval commander and also worked for Bechtelasa Nuclear Engineer for 20 years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldorado, the Knights of Columbus, Mission Viejo Elks Lodge No. 2444 Life Member and Eldorado American Legion Post No. 169 and VFW.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Erickson-Robinson of Anaheim, Calif.; two sons, Donald (Joyce) Stacy of Eldorado and William J. O'Connell Jr. of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; seven sisters, Katherine O'Connell and Helen O'Conner of Dorchester, Mass., Marie Guilfoy of Boston, Mass., Betty Collins of Lexington, Mass., and Betsy, Claire and Ann, Catholic sisters of Notre Dame; three brothers, John O'Connell of Dorchester, Mass., Daniel O'Connell of Upper MontClare, N.J., and Charles O'Connell of Needham, Mass.; five grandchildren, Cary O'Connell, Erin O'Connell, George Erickson, Donald Stacy and Karen Miller; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rolland Boyd Stacy and a sister.
